patience_n of_o wait_v for_o the_o reward_n of_o our_o work_n after_o all_o our_o labour_n but_o in_o sad_a day_n the_o lord_n expect_v we_o shall_v exercise_v both_o patience_n in_o suffering_n and_o in_o wait_v for_o deliverance_n out_o of_o all_o our_o suffering_n then_o it_o be_v that_o both_o faith_n and_o patience_n trust_v and_o wait_v must_v have_v their_o perfect_a work_n second_o note_v when_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o find_v or_o see_v as_o he_o expect_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n and_o patience_n in_o a_o time_n of_o affliction_n he_o will_v afflict_v more_o and_o more_o until_o he_o find_v or_o work_v it_o this_o be_v it_o which_o elihu_n say_v in_o the_o text_n because_o it_o be_v not_o so_o he_o have_v visit_v in_o his_o anger_n job_n be_v sore_o afflict_v before_o but_o now_o god_n mind_v he_o of_o his_o deficiency_n in_o duty_n though_o by_o a_o smart_n visit_v rod._n thus_o the_o lord_n speak_v of_o david_n seed_n and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v understand_v of_o all_o the_o seed_n of_o christ_n who_o david_n type_v psal_n 89._o if_o his_o child_n forsake_v my_o law_n v._n 30_o 31._o then_o vers_n 32._o will_n i_o visit_v their_o transgression_n with_o the_o rod_n etc._n etc._n how_o true_a this_o charge_n of_o elihu_n be_v as_o to_o job_n omission_n of_o duty_n i_o shall_v not_o stay_v to_o inquire_v only_o this_o we_o know_v job_n have_v profess_v trust_n in_o god_n which_o he_o expect_v from_o job_n doubtless_o more_o of_o all_o these_o shall_v have_v appear_v in_o he_o and_o they_o shall_v have_v appear_v more_o in_o that_o time_n of_o affliction_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o god_n look_v for_o and_o aim_v at_o in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o affliction_n first_o the_o mortify_n of_o corruption_n that_o they_o woâ—k_v no_o more_o at_o lest_o no_o more_o so_o strong_o as_o they_o have_v do_v second_o the_o stir_v up_o and_o act_v of_o our_o grace_n that_o they_o may_v be_v more_o work_v and_o work_v more_o strong_o than_o ever_o they_o have_v do_v where_o the_o lord_n see_v not_o these_o effect_n of_o affliction_n that_o our_o sin_n grow_v less_o and_o our_o grace_n more_o that_o we_o complain_v less_o and_o trust_v or_o believe_v more_o we_o be_v like_a to_o be_v afflict_v more_o and_o he_o will_v discover_v his_o anger_n more_o because_o it_o be_v not_o so_o he_o have_v visit_v in_o his_o anger_n and_o thence_o note_v three_o distrust_n or_o impatience_n under_o the_o afflict_a hand_n of_o god_n or_o our_o not_o trust_v god_n in_o our_o worst_a condition_n patient_o be_v a_o very_a provoke_a sin_n we_o provoke_v the_o lord_n to_o visit_v we_o in_o his_o anger_n when_o we_o do_v not_o trust_v in_o his_o mercy_n our_o not_o trust_v god_n must_v needs_o provoke_v he_o to_o anger_n for_o when_o we_o do_v not_o trust_v he_o we_o question_v he_o distrust_n or_o unbelief_n question_n all_o that_o god_n be_v and_o all_o that_o god_n have_v promise_v it_o question_n his_o truth_n and_o his_o faithfulness_n his_o power_n his_o mercy_n and_o his_o goodness_n all_o these_o which_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o in_o all_o which_o the_o son_n of_o man_n ought_v to_o glorify_v he_o these_o be_v all_o question_v and_o darken_v when_o we_o put_v not_o forth_o act_v of_o trust_n and_o reliance_n upon_o god_n in_o time_n of_o great_a affliction_n and_o extremity_n be_v it_o not_o then_o a_o provoke_a sin_n i_o say_v not_o to_o withdraw_v trust_n from_o god_n and_o give_v it_o to_o a_o arm_n of_o flesh_n but_o not_o to_o put_v out_o fresh_a and_o full_a act_n of_o trust_n upon_o god_n let_v our_o affliction_n or_o extremity_n be_v what_o it_o will_v the_o child_n of_o israel_n be_v in_o great_a extremity_n at_o the_o red_a sea_n a_o mighty_a army_n pursue_v they_o at_o the_o heel_n to_o destroy_v they_o and_o mighty_a water_n be_v before_o they_o ready_a to_o swallow_v they_o up_o in_o these_o strait_n while_o they_o shall_v have_v do_v their_o utmost_a to_o get_v and_o assure_v god_n to_o be_v their_o friend_n the_o psalmist_n tell_v we_o they_o provoke_v he_o psal_n 106_o 7._o but_o wherein_o lie_v their_o provocation_n that_o scripture_n say_v they_o remember_v not_o the_o multitude_n of_o his_o mercy_n the_o former_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o strengthen_v their_o trust_n in_o present_a trouble_n that_o be_v one_o provocation_n and_o as_o former_a mercy_n do_v not_o strengthen_v their_o trust_n so_o the_o present_a trouble_n draw_v out_o their_o distrust_n as_o another_o scripture_n assure_v report_v their_o behaviour_n in_o it_o exod._n 14.11_o and_o they_o say_v to_o forth_o out_o of_o egypt_n what_o be_v these_o fearful_a forecasts_a these_o amaze_a bodement_n of_o a_o unavoidable_a as_o they_o apprehend_v ruin_n but_o the_o overflowing_n of_o unbelief_n or_o distrust_v in_o god_n and_o this_o be_v another_o provocation_n former_a mercy_n be_v forget_v yea_o eat_v up_o by_o unbelief_n as_o the_o seven_o lean_a kine_n in_o pharaoh_n dream_n eat_v up_o the_o fat_a one_o and_o present_a difficulty_n be_v aggravate_v by_o unbelief_n as_o if_o all_o the_o power_n of_o god_n can_v not_o remove_v and_o overcome_v they_o and_o will_v not_o the_o lord_n think_v you_o visit_v in_o anger_n for_o such_o a_o sin_n as_o this_o again_o as_o elihu_n do_v not_o say_v bare_o he_o have_v visit_v but_o he_o have_v visit_v in_o his_o anger_n or_o his_o anger_n have_v
