a_o man_n duty_n and_o self-love_n they_o produce_v good_a purpose_n and_o in_o show_v great_a and_o serious_a but_o yet_o such_o as_o the_o people_n there_o express_v deut._n 5._o 29._o who_o the_o other_o prayer_n and_o humiliation_n be_v but_o preparative_n to_o this_o as_o the_o end_n of_o all_o dress_n and_o prune_v of_o tree_n be_v the_o fruit_n and_o the_o end_n of_o plough_v and_o ipsa_fw-la summitate_fw-la in_o the_o utmost_a pitch_n and_o top_n of_o the_o hill_n this_o be_v the_o utmost_a of_o all_o the_o other_o be_v therefore_o the_o hard_a therefore_o the_o prophet_n long_o ago_o and_o that_o you_o have_v commit_v such_o sin_n for_o which_o many_o be_v in_o hell_n long_o since_o god_n expect_v this_o at_o your_o hand_n and_o let_v we_o make_v this_o use_n of_o it_o in_o these_o day_n of_o humiliation_n the_o main_a work_n whereof_o be_v to_o humble_v yourselves_o and_o we_o be_v to_o labour_v to_o humble_v you_o not_o only_o by_o denounce_v god_n judgement_n but_o by_o expression_n of_o his_o mercy_n also_o a_o digression_n concern_v fast_v to_o the_o occasion_n there_o be_v a_o double_a manner_n of_o do_v this_o duty_n fast_n one_o whole_o public_a which_o shall_v be_v from_o morning_n till_o night_n in_o public_a by_o the_o whole_a land_n that_o all_o together_o may_v confess_v and_o humble_v themselves_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o it_o that_o be_v the_o main_a business_n and_o duty_n of_o these_o day_n some_o of_o you_o it_o may_v be_v will_v say_v i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o spend_v my_o time_n in_o private_a when_o i_o be_o from_o the_o church_n but_o consider_v have_v thou_o not_o commit_v many_o sin_n consider_v they_o can_v thou_o not_o speak_v and_o confess_v they_o and_o say_v lord_n i_o confess_v i_o have_v fall_v back_o into_o this_o again_o and_o again_o but_o second_o when_o you_o reconciliation_n have_v do_v this_o seek_v reconciliation_n and_o beg_v it_o earnest_o which_o the_o heart_n will_v do_v when_o it_o be_v touch_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o enumeration_n of_o they_o will_v work_v your_o heart_n to_o it_o when_o you_o see_v the_o multitude_n the_o circumstance_n the_o aggravation_n then_o what_o be_v the_o impediment_n 5._o 1_o one_o be_v that_o we_o be_v deceive_v in_o the_o covenant_n have_v not_o the_o lord_n promise_v to_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a and_o command_v we_o to_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a rom._n 4._o 5._o and_o bid_v we_o come_v with_o a_o empty_a hand_n and_o thou_o come_v with_o a_o handful_n of_o humiliation_n and_o say_v that_o the_o hope_v lay_v before_o we_o which_o hope_v we_o have_v as_o a_o anchor_n of_o the_o soul_n both_o sure_a and_o steadfast_a and_o which_o enter_v into_o that_o within_o the_o veil_n verse_n 18_o 19_o this_o our_o hope_n be_v not_o say_v to_o be_v any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o be_v as_o a_o refuge_n which_o we_o fly_v unto_o out_o of_o ourselves_o and_o be_v lay_v afore_o we_o grow_v not_o within_o from_o what_o be_v within_o we_o and_o be_v from_o above_o now_o by_o hope_n we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v the_o thing_n hope_v for_o or_o the_o grace_n of_o hope_n in_o we_o but_o that_o sure_a promise_n of_o god_n ratify_v by_o a_o oath_n this_o be_v the_o object_n of_o our_o hope_n and_o so_o call_v our_o hope_n that_o be_v it_o which_o be_v our_o refuge_n and_o which_o be_v lay_v afore_o we_o and_o proceed_v from_o god_n own_o breast_n and_o nature_n which_o if_o we_o anchor_n upon_o we_o shall_v have_v strong_a consolation_n both_o for_o sureness_n of_o not_o fail_v we_o and_o for_o steadiness_n establish_v our_o heart_n but_o whilst_o we_o fly_v for_o refuge_n to_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o or_o cast_v anchor_n upon_o it_o we_o be_v toss_v with_o every_o wave_n 2_o our_o daily_a infirmity_n they_o also_o be_v a_o great_a infirmity_n impediment_n a_o man_n think_v if_o i_o have_v faith_n that_o will_v so_o purify_v my_o heart_n as_o i_o shall_v not_o fall_v thus_o oft_o as_o i_o do_v which_o whilst_o i_o do_v how_o can_v i_o have_v such_o strong_a consolation_n for_o this_o i_o say_v to_o all_o upright_a heart_a christian_n that_o their_o infirmity_n shall_v not_o dishearten_v their_o faith_n and_o consolation_n but_o they_o shall_v rather_o labour_v to_o strengthen_v their_o sanctification_n say_v with_o thyself_o because_o my_o sin_n be_v and_o have_v be_v great_a than_o other_o man_n therefore_o i_o will_v labour_v more_o for_o sanctification_n hereafter_o i_o will_v love_v more_o than_o other_o and_o be_v more_o serviceable_a for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v but_o say_v not_o therefore_o i_o will_v doubt_v or_o despair_v of_o god_n mercy_n humiliation_n 3._o hindrance_n to_o their_o lay_n hold_v of_o the_o promise_n of_o forgiveness_n be_v a_o conceit_n of_o their_o want_n of_o humiliation_n as_o if_o they_o be_v not_o humble_v enough_o but_o if_o it_o be_v so_o much_o as_o bring_v thou_o home_o to_o christ_n if_o thou_o thirst_v for_o christ_n so_o as_o nothing_o will_v content_v thou_o till_o thou_o have_v he_o fear_v not_o to_o lay_v hold_n this_o be_v enough_o stand_v not_o upon_o the_o measure_n last_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o have_v not_o pray_v enough_o for_o assurance_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o therefore_o want_v pardon_n it_o it_o be_v here_o put_v in_o as_o a_o condition_n if_o my_o people_n pray_v and_o among_o other_o thing_n for_o this_o to_o forgive_v your_o sin_n and_o to_o give_v they_o the_o assurance_n of_o it_o all_o the_o argument_n in_o the_o world_n can_v persuade_v the_o heart_n of_o this_o nothing_o but_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n and_o can_v so_o great_a a_o mercy_n be_v obtain_v without_o fervent_a prayer_n therefore_o go_v to_o god_n and_o entreat_v his_o favour_n and_o though_o he_o defer_v yet_o continue_v in_o prayer_n for_o it_o may_v be_v the_o lord_n also_o withhold_v it_o because_o he_o will_v have_v thou_o set_v a_o high_a prize_n upon_o it_o which_o thou_o will_v not_o do_v if_o thou_o shall_v obtain_v it_o easy_o but_o be_v not_o discourage_v continue_v thou_o to_o pray_v still_o and_o in_o the_o end_n thou_o shall_v have_v it_o with_o a_o full_a hand_n hear_v you_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v upright_a and_o sincere_a in_o heart_n here_o be_v your_o comfort_n continue_v thus_o to_o seek_v god_n face_n and_o all_o your_o sin_n shall_v be_v as_o if_o they_o have_v never_o be_v commit_v by_o you_o and_o what_o be_v say_v of_o the_o sin_n of_o israel_n and_o judah_n jer._n 50._o 20._o the_o iniquity_n of_o jacob_n shall_v be_v seek_v for_o and_o there_o 20._o shall_v none_o be_v find_v so_o shall_v thou_o be_v in_o the_o day_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v seek_v for_o be_v not_o this_o a_o great_a and_o unspeakable_a mercy_n a_o man_n shall_v be_v as_o if_o he_o have_v never_o commit_v sin_n even_o as_o if_o he_o be_v as_o innocent_a as_o adam_n be_v
