performance_n of_o such_o promise_n and_o here_o also_o be_v another_o very_a considerable_a difference_n betwixt_o the_o obligation_n of_o a_o law_n and_o a_o covenant_n that_o whereas_o one_o performance_n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n of_o a_o superior_a the_o subject_a upon_o such_o his_o obedience_n can_v have_v only_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o law_n some_o general_a and_o faint_a and_o scandalous_a profaneness_n and_o debauchery_n of_o the_o libertine_n who_o call_v himself_o of_o our_o church_n on_o the_o other_o we_o shall_v be_v reckon_v among_o those_o wicked_a prophet_n ezek._n 13._o who_o humour_a and_o flatter_v the_o opinion_n and_o vice_n of_o god_n people_n and_o must_v expect_v that_o heavy_a doom_n pronounce_v against_o such_o in_o that_o chapter_n and_o indeed_o as_o every_o other_o call_v have_v its_o particular_a temptation_n belong_v to_o it_o so_o what_o be_v worse_o most_o man_n think_v they_o may_v honest_o enough_o comply_v therewith_o and_o strife_n and_o foment_n difference_n and_o that_o the_o malice_n and_o revenge_n the_o wrath_n and_o bitterness_n the_o slander_n and_o evil-speakings_a the_o strife_n and_o contention_n which_o be_v other_o man_n sin_n must_v be_v his_o livelihood_n and_o that_o he_o must_v make_v himself_o acquaint_v by_o drink_v hard_a with_o the_o worst_a sort_n of_o people_n that_o he_o may_v gain_v a_o interest_n himself_o in_o they_o and_o get_v into_o business_n so_o likewise_o the_o tradesman_n will_v plead_v that_o the_o importunity_n of_o customer_n who_o will_v certain_o beat_v down_o the_o price_n of_o his_o commodity_n as_o low_a as_o they_o can_v do_v make_v it_o necessary_a by_o protestation_n and_o equivocation_n and_o lie_v to_o set_v off_o his_o ware_n to_o the_o best_a advantage_n and_o how_o few_o be_v there_o of_o our_o country-dealer_n who_o do_v not_o think_v it_o necessary_a or_o they_o can_v pay_v a_o hard_a rent_n and_o maintain_v a_o family_n to_o take_v advantage_n of_o the_o ignorance_n or_o necessity_n of_o their_o neighbour_n and_o not_o only_o to_o conceal_v the_o defect_n but_o by_o plain_a downright_o lie_v and_o avouch_v that_o their_o beast_n be_v upright_o and_o sound_a put_v it_o off_o for_o more_o than_o it_o be_v worth_a thus_o some_o man_n of_o all_o profession_n will_v think_v they_o must_v do_v or_o else_o they_o can_v live_v and_o indeed_o if_o man_n can_v not_o get_v a_o livelihood_n but_o in_o a_o way_n and_o trade_n of_o sin_v person_n of_o calling_n and_o profession_n and_o dealer_n in_o in_o the_o world_n will_v lie_v under_o a_o shrewd_a temptation_n but_o tell_v i_o must_v man_n sell_v their_o soul_n to_o the_o devil_n for_o ever_o for_o the_o gain_v here_o we_o know_v not_o how_o soon_o we_o must_v leave_v we_o count_v esau_n a_o foolish_a as_o well_o as_o profane_v person_n who_o in_o extremity_n of_o hunger_n sell_v his_o birthright_n for_o a_o mess_n of_o pottage_n gen._n 25.33_o 34._o and_o what_o be_v have_v make_v necessary_a to_o any_o man_n be_v be_v nor_o indeed_o well-being_a in_o the_o world_n if_o they_o mean_v no_o more_o than_o get_v a_o honest_a and_o moderate_a provision_n suitable_a to_o the_o station_n and_o condition_n providence_n have_v place_v they_o in_o i_o do_v not_o know_v but_o general_o man_n do_v better_o provide_v for_o themselves_o by_o plain_a and_o honest_a deal_v than_o by_o serve_v their_o interest_n by_o any_o sinful_a art_n or_o cunning_a whatsoever_o i_o do_v believe_v it_o be_v a_o true_a proverb_n general_o speak_v that_o honesty_n be_v the_o best_a policy_n and_o man_n thrive_v though_o but_o slow_o by_o it_o yet_o better_o and_o sure_a than_o by_o cheat_v and_o overreach_a and_o it_o be_v almost_o every_o one_o observation_n that_o a_o little_a substance_n honest_o get_v be_v a_o comfort_n to_o the_o owner_n whilst_o the_o estate_n that_o be_v ill_o get_v waste_n like_o butter_n in_o the_o sun_n and_o derive_v down_o a_o curse_n upon_o those_o on_o who_o it_o descend_v but_o however_o though_o it_o be_v not_o so_o that_o honesty_n be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o thrive_v and_o though_o your_o temptation_n shall_v be_v never_o so_o great_a and_o your_o want_n never_o so_o press_v you_o must_v suffer_v that_o want_n or_o suffer_v worse_o and_o you_o will_v do_v well_o to_o consider_v that_o those_o who_o will_v rather_o suffer_v
