honourable_a instrument_n for_o the_o direction_n and_o instigation_n of_o his_o people_n from_o time_n to_o time_n to_o walk_v not_o only_o in_o humanity_n but_o even_o in_o christian_a mercy_n &_o compassion_n towards_o their_o brethren_n in_o a_o holy_a communion_n of_o saint_n before_o he_o not_o for_o necessity_n of_o proof_n or_o for_o power_n of_o persuasion_n as_o if_o the_o holy_a scripture_n be_v not_o alone_o sufficient_a to_o every_o holy_a use_n both_o of_o doctrine_n reprehension_n comfort_n and_o exhortation_n but_o that_o every_o one_o that_o will_v not_o shut_v his_o eye_n may_v more_o clear_o perceive_v that_o he_o shall_v stand_v every_o way_n convict_v and_o condemn_v before_o god_n and_o in_o his_o own_o conscience_n and_o before_o the_o world_n if_o he_o do_v the_o maintenance_n of_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n even_o as_o they_o will_v answer_v the_o matter_n before_o god_n who_o will_v not_o be_v dally_v with_o therein_o as_o we_o have_v see_v before_o he_o do_v therewithal_o assure_v all_o such_o as_o shall_v deal_v christianly_o herein_o that_o they_o shall_v reap_v a_o plentiful_a fruit_n from_o the_o same_o whatsoever_o a_o man_n sow_v and_o nursery_n of_o humane_a society_n it_o be_v meet_v that_o a_o law_n be_v set_v lest_o that_o under_o the_o colour_n of_o beneficial_a deal_n we_o please_v our_o own_o humour_n in_o a_o unaduised_a and_o lavish_a lightness_n and_o again_o lest_o this_o caution_n shall_v altogether_o quench_v liberality_n in_o steed_n of_o moderate_v of_o it_o final_o as_o the_o same_o author_n say_v break_v and_o tread_v under_o foot_n for_o another_o though_o christian_n stand_v bind_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o have_v a_o godly_a care_n for_o the_o good_a and_o comfortable_a education_n of_o their_o child_n yet_o have_v they_o no_o warrant_n for_o that_o cause_n to_o neglect_v to_o exercise_v beneficence_n and_o to_o show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o common_a compassion_n and_o mercy_n for_o this_o be_v the_o ready_a high-waie_n for_o parent_n to_o spoil_v and_o undoo_v both_o themselves_o and_o their_o child_n for_o ever_o rather_o then_o to_o better_v their_o estate_n here_o in_o this_o transitory_a world_n the_o best_a and_o only_o sure_a provision_n which_o parent_n can_v make_v for_o their_o child_n be_v to_o leave_v unto_o they_o as_o it_o be_v a_o rich_a patrimony_n of_o true_a godliness_n the_o righteous_a man_n as_o say_v the_o holy_a prophet_n be_v merciful_a and_o dare_v and_o his_o seed_n enjoy_v the_o blessing_n ps_n 37.26_o and_o ps_n 112.2_o his_o seed_n shall_v be_v mighty_a upon_o earth_n the_o generation_n of_o the_o righteous_a shall_v be_v bless_v it_o be_v the_o faithful_a parent_n godliness_n therefore_o and_o not_o his_o unto_o it_o it_o follow_v that_o we_o consider_v likewise_o of_o unthankfulness_n to_o man_n both_o how_o grievous_a the_o sin_n be_v and_o also_o who_o severe_o god_n will_v punish_v it_o according_a to_o the_o testimony_n of_o his_o holy_a scripture_n as_o be_v propound_v and_o determine_v before_o concern_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o unthankfulness_n betwixt_o man_n and_o man_n that_o place_n of_o holy_a scripture_n 2._o tim._n 3.1_o among_o sundry_a other_o place_n man_n the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o unthankfulness_n to_o man_n may_v justly_o be_v one_o where_o the_o apostle_n rehearse_v it_o among_o those_o heinous_a and_o noisome_a sin_n by_o the_o abound_v whereof_o the_o time_n shall_v grow_v very_o perilous_a in_o the_o last_o day_n for_o man_n say_v less_o esteem_v then_o for_o a_o very_a heinous_a sin_n and_o the_o rather_o also_o because_o not_o only_o the_o beneficence_n of_o other_o good_a christian_n can_v prevail_v to_o draw_v they_o to_o the_o love_n of_o godliness_n but_o even_o the_o beneficence_n and_o all_o reverence_n which_o be_v due_a to_o parent_n be_v easy_o despise_v of_o unthankful_a person_n for_o if_o child_n shall_v despise_v their_o parent_n and_o all_o that_o they_o have_v do_v for_o they_o in_o the_o care_n and_o cost_v of_o their_o education_n who_o then_o will_v they_o regard_v to_o who_o can_v they_o be_v ingenuouslie_o thankful_a and_o therefore_o be_v it_o also_o that_o in_o his_o divine_a wisdom_n our_o s._n christ_n do_v so_o vehementlie_o inveigh_v and_o cry_v out_o against_o the_o pharisy_n who_o by_o their_o blind_a and_o covetous_a tradition_n hinder_v the_o thankfulness_n and_o remuneration_n and_o recompense_n which_o child_n owe_v to_o their_o poor_a parent_n they_o thereby_o make_v the_o law_n of_o god_n namely_o the_o five_o commandment_n honour_v thy_o father_n and_o thy_o mother_n of_o no_o authority_n as_o our_o saviour_n charge_v they_o mat._n 15.3.4.5_o etc._n etc._n and_o john_n ch_n 10.31.32_o and_o before_o that_o ch_n 8.44_o he_o convict_v many_o of_o the_o jew_n to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o not_o of_o god_n because_o they_o go_v about_o to_o stone_n he_o who_o have_v wrought_v many_o good_a work_n among_o they_o and_o very_o infinite_a be_v the_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n &_o beneficence_n which_o our_o saviour_n christ_n wrought_v above_o all_o other_o man_n that_o ever_o be_v both_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o also_o to_o the_o body_n of_o a_o infinite_a number_n of_o man_n while_o he_o be_v in_o his_o humanity_n here_o upon_o the_o earth_n though_o indeed_o he_o distribute_v no_o great_a sum_n of_o money_n among_o they_o and_o yet_o behold_v all_o be_v not_o able_a to_o subdue_v this_o fury_n of_o unthankfulness_n which_o have_v bereave_v they_o of_o all_o dutiful_a regard_n of_o his_o good_a work_n wrought_v among_o they_o see_v therefore_o the_o strange_a nature_n of_o this_o sin_n which_o where_o it_o take_v place_n breed_v the_o great_a trouble_n and_o disquietment_n yea_o the_o great_a malice_n and_o outrage_n that_o may_v be_v further_a than_o it_o be_v curb_v and_o restrain_v by_o the_o almighty_a power_n of_o god_n which_o only_o be_v able_a to_o suppress_v the_o fury_n of_o the_o wicked_a here_o therefore_o we_o be_v again_o to_o observe_v that_o albeit_o unthankfulness_n to_o man_n do_v rest_n only_o in_o the_o neglect_n of_o the_o duty_n of_o thanks_n yet_o be_v it_o to_o be_v condemn_v much_o more_o among_o christian_n then_o among_o the_o heathen_a who_o great_a hatred_n against_o it_o we_o have_v see_v testify_v before_o and_o so_o we_o find_v it_o note_v to_o the_o reproof_n of_o pharaoh_n butler_n gen._n ch_n 40.23_o because_o he_o do_v so_o long_o forget_v joseph_n who_o have_v be_v so_o great_a a_o comfort_n to_o he_o while_o he_o remain_v in_o prison_n with_o he_o yea_o because_o he_o forget_v he_o although_o joseph_n have_v entreat_v the_o butler_n to_o show_v he_o mercy_n and_o to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o pharaoh_n that_o he_o may_v be_v deliver_v out_o of_o his_o unjust_a imprisonment_n but_o we_o see_v that_o unthankfulness_n to_o man_n go_v not_o alone_o likewise_o as_o we_o see_v before_o that_o unthankfulness_n to_o god_n go_v not_o without_o a_o unruly_a train_n and_o therefore_o also_o it_o make_v itself_o so_o much_o the_o more_o heinous_a and_o troublesome_a or_o grievous_a as_o the_o other_o have_v show_v itself_o to_o be_v whereupon_o let_v this_o now_o be_v note_v for_o a_o grave_n and_o weighty_a admonition_n to_o all_o that_o so_o soon_o as_o the_o heart_n cease_v to_o be_v thankful_a for_o benefit_n receive_v of_o good_a and_o merciful_a man_n so_o soon_o do_v it_o begin_v to_o grow_v hurtful_a and_o pernicious_a against_o man_n the_o which_o admonition_n that_o it_o may_v the_o rather_o take_v place_n with_o we_o let_v we_o consider_v of_o the_o warning_n which_o the_o holy_a scripture_n of_o god_n give_v we_o against_o this_o most_o wicked_a practice_n both_o by_o precept_n and_o by_o the_o discovery_n and_o rebuke_n of_o those_o that_o have_v wicked_o practise_v the_o same_o and_o so_o will_v we_o come_v to_o the_o punishment_n of_o this_o sin_n for_o precept_n of_o admonition_n against_o it_o we_o may_v well_o call_v to_o mind_n that_o which_o the_o apostle_n set_v down_o rom._n ch_n 12.17_o etc._n etc._n and_o 1._o thes_n 5_o 15._o where_o the_o holy_a apostle_n according_a to_o the_o instruction_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n matth._n 5_o 44._o charge_v all_o christian_n to_o be_v so_o far_o from_o recompense_v good_a with_o evil_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o recompense_v one_o evil_a turn_n with_o another_o but_o contrariwise_o that_o they_o shall_v overcome_v evil_a with_o goodness_n of_o his_o prosperity_n as_o have_v be_v allege_v in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o this_o treatise_n out_o of_o the_o 29._o ch_z he_o break_v into_o this_o speech_n but_o now_o say_v he_o they_o that_o
