to_o have_v fail_v heretofore_o there_o especial_o to_o renew_v our_o resolution_n and_o herein_o it_o near_o concern_v we_o to_o look_v that_o these_o resolution_n be_v sincere_a and_o unfeigned_a and_o not_o only_o such_o slight_a one_o as_o people_n use_v out_o of_o custom_n to_o put_v on_o at_o their_o come_n to_o the_o sacrament_n which_o they_o never_o think_v of_o keep_v afterward_o for_o this_o be_v a_o certain_a truth_n that_o whosoever_o come_v to_o this_o holy_a table_n without_o a_o entire_a hatred_n of_o every_o sin_n come_v unworthy_o and_o it_o be_v as_o sure_a that_o he_o that_o do_v entire_o hate_v all_o sin_n will_v resolve_v to_o forsake_v it_o for_o you_o know_v forsake_v natural_o follow_v hatred_n no_o man_n willing_o abide_v with_o a_o thing_n or_o person_n he_o hate_v and_o therefore_o he_o that_o do_v not_o so_o resolve_v as_o that_o god_n the_o searcher_n of_o heart_n may_v approve_v it_o as_o sincere_a can_v be_v suppose_v to_o hate_v sin_n and_o so_o can_v be_v a_o worthy_a receiver_n of_o that_o holy_a sacrament_n therefore_o try_v your_o resolution_n thorough_o that_o you_o deceive_v not_o yourselves_o in_o they_o it_o be_v your_o own_o great_a danger_n if_o you_o do_v for_o it_o be_v certain_a you_o can_v deceive_v god_n nor_o gain_v acceptation_n from_o he_o by_o any_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o perfect_o hearty_a and_o unfeigned_a 13._o now_o as_o you_o be_v to_o resolve_v on_o this_o new_a obedience_n mean_n so_o you_o be_v likewise_o to_o resolve_v on_o the_o mean_n which_o may_v assist_v you_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o consider_v in_o every_o duty_n what_o be_v the_o mean_n that_o may_v help_v you_o in_o it_o and_o resolve_v to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o how_o uneasy_a soever_o they_o be_v to_o your_o flesh_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n consider_v what_o thing_n they_o be_v that_o be_v likely_a to_o lead_v you_o to_o sin_n and_o resolve_v to_o shun_v and_o avoid_v they_o this_o you_o be_v to_o do_v in_o respect_n of_o all_o sin_n whatever_o but_o especial_o in_o those_o whereof_o you_o have_v former_o be_v guilty_a for_o there_o it_o will_v not_o be_v hard_o for_o you_o to_o find_v by_o what_o step_n and_o degree_n you_o be_v draw_v into_o it_o what_o company_n what_o occasion_n it_o be_v that_o ensnare_v you_o as_o also_o to_o what_o sort_n of_o temptation_n you_o be_v apt_a to_o yield_v and_o therefore_o you_o must_v particular_o fence_v you_o self_n against_o the_o sin_n by_o avoid_v those_o occasion_n of_o it_o 14._o but_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o you_o resolve_v you_o will_v do_v all_o this_o hereafter_o but_o you_o must_v instant_o set_v to_o it_o and_o begin_v the_o course_n by_o do_v at_o the_o present_a whatsoever_o you_o have_v opportunity_n must_v then_o actual_o do_v it_o by_o withdraw_a all_o degree_n of_o love_n and_o affection_n from_o they_o you_o must_v then_o give_v a_o bill_n of_o divorce_n to_o all_o your_o old_a belove_a sin_n or_o else_o you_o be_v no_o way_n fit_a to_o be_v marry_v to_o christ._n the_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v clear_a for_o this_o sacrament_n be_v our_o spiritual_a nourishment_n now_o before_o we_o can_v receive_v spiritual_a nourishment_n we_o must_v have_v spiritual_a life_n for_o no_o man_n give_v food_n to_o a_o dead_a person_n but_o whosoever_o continue_v not_o only_o in_o the_o act_n but_o in_o the_o love_n of_o any_o one_o know_v sin_n have_v no_o spiritual_a life_n but_o be_v in_o god_n account_v no_o better_a than_o a_o dead_a carcase_n and_o therefore_o can_v receive_v that_o spiritual_a food_n it_o be_v true_a he_o may_v eat_v the_o bread_n and_o drink_v the_o wine_n but_o he_o receive_v not_o christ_n but_o in_o stead_n of_o he_o that_o which_o be_v most_o dreadful_a the_o apostle_n it_o that_o be_v whensoever_o thy_o obedience_n to_o any_o command_n of_o he_o shall_v lay_v thou_o open_a to_o those_o suffering_n but_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n to_o resolve_v never_o again_o to_o long_o as_o thou_o keep_v in_o that_o friendship_n with_o god_n thou_o be_v false_a all_o the_o malice_n of_o man_n or_o devil_n can_v do_v thou_o no_o harm_n for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n the_o king_n gate_n on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o peaceable_a spirit_n that_o can_v quiet_o pass_v by_o all_o injury_n and_o affront_n enjoy_v a_o continual_a calm_n and_o be_v above_o the_o malice_n of_o his_o enemy_n for_o let_v they_o do_v what_o they_o can_v they_o can_v rob_v he_o of_o his_o quiet_n he_o be_v firm_a as_o a_o rock_n which_o no_o storm_n or_o wind_n can_v move_v when_o the_o furious_a and_o revengeful_a man_n be_v like_o a_o wave_n which_o the_o least_o blast_n toss_v and_o tumble_v from_o its_o place_n but_o beside_o this_o inward_a disquiet_n of_o revengeful_a man_n they_o often_o bring_v many_o outward_a calamity_n upon_o themselves_o they_o exasperate_v their_o enemy_n and_o provoke_v they_o to_o do_v they_o great_a â—_z nay_o oftentimes_o they_o willing_o run_v themselves_o upon_o the_o great_a misery_n in_o pursuit_n of_o their_o revenge_n to_o which_o it_o be_v ordinary_a to_o see_v man_n sacrifice_v good_n ease_n credit_n life_n nay_o soul_n itself_o not_o care_v what_o they_o suffer_v themselves_o so_o they_o may_v spite_v their_o enemy_n so_o strange_o do_v this_o wretched_a humour_n besott_n and_o blind_a man_n on_o the_o contrary_a the_o meek_a person_n he_o often_o melt_v his_o adversary_n pacify_v his_o anger_n a_o soft_a answer_n turn_v away_o wrath_n say_v solomon_n pro._n 15._o 1._o and_o sure_o there_o be_v nothing_o can_v tend_v more_o to_o that_o end_n but_o if_o it_o do_v happen_v that_o his_o enemy_n be_v so_o inhuman_a that_o he_o miss_v of_o do_v that_o yet_o he_o be_v still_o a_o gainer_n by_o all_o he_o can_v suffer_v for_o first_o he_o gain_v a_o opportunity_n of_o exercise_v that_o most_o christian_a grace_n of_o charity_n and_o forgiveness_n and_o so_o at_o once_o of_o obey_v the_o command_n and_o imitate_v the_o example_n of_o his_o saviour_n which_o be_v to_o a_o true_a christian_a spirit_n a_o most_o valuable_a advantage_n and_o then_o second_o he_o gain_v a_o accession_n and_o increase_n to_o his_o reward_n hereafter_o and_o if_o it_o be_v object_v that_o that_o be_v not_o to_o be_v reckon_v in_o to_o the_o present_a pleasure_n of_o the_o duty_n i_o answer_v that_o the_o expectation_n and_o belief_n of_o it_o be_v and_o that_o alone_o be_v a_o delight_n infinite_o more_o ravish_a than_o the_o present_a enjoyment_n of_o all_o sensual_a pleasure_n can_v be_v the_o four_o consideration_n be_v we_o the_o danger_n of_o not_o perform_v this_o duty_n of_o which_o i_o may_v reckon_v up_o divers_a but_o i_o shall_v insist_v only_o on_o that_o great_a one_o which_o contain_v in_o it_o all_o the_o rest_n and_o that_o be_v the_o forfeit_v of_o our_o own_o pardon_n from_o god_n the_o have_v our_o sin_n against_o he_o keep_v still_o on_o his_o score_n and_o not_o may_v perhaps_o give_v some_o short_a pain_n to_o the_o flesh_n it_o stick_v in_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v none_o but_o discern_v the_o bee_n have_v the_o worst_a of_o it_o that_o pay_v her_o life_n for_o so_o poor_a a_o revenge_n so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o great_a act_n of_o our_o malice_n we_o may_v perhaps_o leave_v our_o sting_n in_o other_o put_v they_o to_o some_o present_a trouble_n but_o that_o compare_v with_o the_o hurt_n redound_v to_o ourselves_o by_o it_o be_v no_o more_o than_o that_o inconsiderable_a pain_n be_v to_o death_n nay_o not_o so_o much_o because_o the_o mischief_n be_v aâ—_n if_o the_o master_n of_o a_o family_n who_o provide_v food_n for_o his_o servant_n shall_v by_o they_o be_v keep_v from_o eat_v any_o himself_o and_o so_o remain_v the_o only_o starve_a this_o strict_a search_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n be_v then_o especial_o necessary_a for_o although_o it_o be_v true_a that_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a by_o all_o our_o diligence_n to_o discover_v
