only_o persecute_v but_o threaten_v nor_o he_o do_v not_o only_a project_n and_o design_n mischief_n but_o often_o brag_v and_o boast_v of_o it_o aforehand_o thereby_o to_o daunt_v the_o courage_n and_o to_o allay_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n god_n himself_o he_o do_v not_o only_o protect_v coherence_n the_o coherence_n but_o comfort_n nor_o he_o do_v not_o only_a purpose_n and_o intend_v preservation_n but_o give_v some_o hint_n and_o prediction_n of_o it_o that_o so_o thereby_o he_o may_v the_o better_o strengthen_v and_o encourage_v circumstance_n of_o deliverance_n yet_o perhaps_o if_o we_o consider_v all_o not_o altogether_o different_a from_o they_o and_o beside_o with_o some_o what_o more_o join_v and_o superadd_v unto_o they_o not_o only_o from_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o enemy_n but_o also_o from_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o angel_n nor_o only_o from_o the_o combustion_n of_o war_n but_o from_o the_o fire_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o text_n itself_o there_o be_v two_o general_a part_n observable_a first_o the_o mercy_n signify_v division_n the_o division_n and_o second_o the_o ground_n or_o motive_n for_o the_o bestow_n of_o it_o the_o mercy_n signify_v that_o we_o have_v in_o these_o word_n for_o i_o will_v defend_v this_o city_n to_o save_v it_o the_o ground_n or_o motive_n of_o it_o in_o these_o for_o my_o own_o sake_n and_o for_o my_o servant_n david_n sake_n we_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o general_n viz._n general_n the_o first_o general_n the_o mercy_n signify_v wherein_o two_o particular_n more_o first_o the_o specification_n and_o second_o the_o amplification_n the_o specification_n or_o mercy_n itself_o which_o be_v express_v i_o will_v defend_v this_o city_n the_o amplification_n or_o extent_n of_o the_o mercy_n to_o save_v it_o first_o to_o speak_v of_o the_o former_a viz._n mercy_n the_o specification_n of_o the_o mercy_n the_o specification_n of_o the_o mercy_n or_o the_o this_o message_n by_o his_o prophet_n it_o be_v he_o that_o take_v this_o business_n of_o defence_n and_o protection_n upon_o he_o one_o who_o be_v able_a enough_o to_o do_v it_o and_o to_o go_v through_o with_o it_o and_o this_o city_n which_o be_v that_o namely_o jerusalem_n the_o city_n of_o god_n where_o his_o name_n and_o worship_n be_v celebrate_v that_o be_v the_o city_n which_o be_v here_o promise_v the_o benefit_n of_o god_n defence_n and_o preservation_n of_o it_o so_o that_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n here_o now_o considerable_a the_o defend_v and_o the_o defendant_n the_o but_o they_o can_v give_v diliverance_n yea_o but_o the_o lord_n he_o can_v do_v all_o these_o health_n and_o victory_n and_o protection_n and_o salvation_n itself_o not_o only_o in_o the_o endeavour_n but_o in_o the_o event_n defend_v to_o save_v as_o to_o the_o efficacy_n or_o effect_v of_o it_o that_o be_v the_o first_o explication_n the_o second_o be_v the_o end_n end_n 2._o the_o end_n or_o intent_n i_o will_v defend_v it_o to_o save_v it_o as_o signifi_n god_n gracious_a aim_n and_o drift_n in_o the_o defend_n of_o it_o there_o be_v defending_n sometime_o which_o as_o they_o do_v not_o always_o end_v in_o salvation_n so_o neither_o do_v they_o always_o tend_v to_o salvation_n but_o rather_o no_o somewhat_o else_o which_o be_v either_o contrary_a or_o different_a from_o it_o thus_o enemy_n they_o sometime_o defend_v those_o person_n who_o they_o take_v captive_a in_o war_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o save_v they_o as_o rather_o to_o make_v advantage_n of_o they_o and_o sometime_o advantage_n against_o they_o to_o abuse_v they_o and_o to_o exercise_v so_o much_o the_o great_a cruelty_n upon_o they_o as_o the_o philistines_n do_v with_o samson_n who_o they_o keep_v to_o make_v themselves_o sport_n and_o to_o insult_v so_o much_o the_o more_o over_o he_o judg._n 16.28_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o that_o all_o defend_n or_o keep_v it_o have_v not_o and_o make_v encouragement_n to_o further_a usefulness_n and_o cheerfulness_n and_o activity_n in_o god_n service_n otherwise_o we_o shall_v have_v but_o little_a comfort_n or_o satisfaction_n from_o
