militant_a in_o earth_n with_o the_o same_o fatherly_a affection_n as_o he_o do_v the_o triumphant_a in_o heaven_n and_o will_v have_v you_o as_o well_o as_o they_o name_v his_o son_n not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o receive_v your_o weakness_n and_o unworthiness_n into_o his_o embrace_n therefore_o you_o shall_v courageous_o proceed_v in_o the_o faith_n vers._n 16._o that_o he_o will_v grant_v you_o according_a to_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o glory_n to_o be_v strengthen_v with_o might_n by_o his_o spirit_n in_o the_o inner_a man_n according_a to_o the_o riches_n argum._n 4._o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n be_v rich_a and_o glorious_a and_o rejoice_v to_o advance_v its_o glorious_a greatness_n in_o plentiful_o bestow_v the_o grace_n of_o continuance_n in_o faith_n to_o those_o that_o ask_v it_o therefore_o you_o shall_v bold_o seek_v grace_n and_o hold_v on_o in_o faith_n strengthen_v argum._n 5._o though_o you_o be_v weak_a and_o unable_a to_o resist_v the_o difficulty_n in_o the_o way_n yet_o there_o be_v sufficient_a strength_n to_o be_v communicate_v to_o you_o from_o your_o father_n who_o be_v most_o willing_a of_o and_o inclinable_a to_o your_o confirmation_n we_o do_v with_o strength_n and_o power_n to_o persevere_v and_o of_o his_o rich_a grace_n pass_v by_o their_o sin_n must_v constant_o maintain_v and_o put_v forward_o his_o own_o work_n in_o they_o vers._n 17._o that_o christ_n may_v dwell_v in_o your_o heart_n by_o faith_n that_o you_o be_v root_v and_o ground_v in_o love_n argum._n 6._o though_o you_o be_v weak_a and_o the_o devil_n who_o fight_v against_o you_o be_v powerful_a yet_o christ_n be_v more_o powerful_a dwell_n in_o you_o by_o faith_n fashion_v you_o to_o his_o own_o image_n confirm_v you_o and_o rule_v you_o to_o the_o obedience_n of_o his_o own_o will_n and_o our_o desire_n and_o prayer_n to_o god_n shall_v not_o be_v want_v that_o he_o may_v constant_o and_o more_o full_o dwell_v in_o you_o therefore_o vers._n 18._o may_v be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v with_o all_o saint_n what_o be_v the_o breadth_n and_o length_n and_o depth_n and_o height_n argum._n 7._o the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o you_o be_v immutable_a be_v firm_o lay_v as_o a_o live_a root_n and_o sure_a foundation_n of_o the_o perfect_a of_o your_o faith_n whence_o therefore_o you_o may_v derive_v both_o stability_n to_o increase_v be_v persuade_v of_o this_o love_n you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o persevere_v most_o steadfast_o in_o the_o faith_n and_o i_o will_v pray_v that_o this_o persuasion_n may_v be_v give_v you_o therefore_o press_v forward_o the_o breadth_n argum._n 8._o the_o grace_n of_o god_n offer_v in_o the_o gospel_n to_o be_v comprehend_v by_o you_o in_o its_o immense_a length_n reach_v from_o eternity_n to_o eternity_n in_o its_o breadth_n it_o extend_v itself_o to_o all_o age_n and_o order_n of_o man_n in_o its_o depth_n it_o descend_v to_o the_o abyss_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n that_o it_o may_v hale_v man_n out_o and_o last_o in_o its_o height_n it_o raise_v itself_o to_o the_o high_a happiness_n in_o heaven_n yea_o this_o offer_a grace_n do_v already_o comprehend_v you_o whereof_o i_o wish_v
a_o one_o christ_n be_v i._n e._n how_o excellent_a he_o be_v in_o the_o office_n of_o his_o apostleship_n or_o of_o his_o prophetical_a and_o priestly_a office_n wherein_o he_o humble_v himself_o and_o suffer_v argum._n 1._o from_o psal._n 8.5_o to_o this_o purpose_n the_o man_n christ_n be_v high_o account_v of_o with_o god_n and_o other_o man_n be_v subject_v because_o of_o he_o if_o the_o to_o be_v lessen_v because_o of_o his_o suffering_n in_o his_o assume_v flesh_n vers._n 10._o for_o it_o become_v he_o for_o who_o be_v all_o thing_n and_o by_o who_o be_v all_o thing_n in_o bring_v many_o son_n unto_o glory_n to_o make_v the_o captain_n of_o their_o salvation_n perfect_a through_o suffering_n argum._n 7._o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n who_o be_v the_o author_n and_o end_n of_o all_o thing_n see_v that_o his_o justice_n mercy_n wisdom_n power_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o attribute_n may_v be_v manifest_v chief_o by_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n that_o he_o may_v consecrate_v inaugurate_a consummate_a and_o every_o way_n make_v he_o meet_v to_o be_v captain_n of_o our_o salvation_n the_o more_o convenient_o by_o affliction_n to_o here_o man_n receive_v from_o the_o holy_a ghost_n good_a thing_n there_o man_n receive_v from_o he_o beside_o these_o good_a thing_n better_a thing_n also_o 5._o here_o thing_n glorious_a indeed_o yet_o not_o always_o accompany_v salvation_n but_o in_o some_o go_n before_o save_v grace_n in_o other_o possible_o alone_a without_o save_a grace_n but_o there_o be_v save_v grace_n always_o join_v with_o salvation_n 6._o here_o in_o these_o verse_n the_o apostle_n be_v not_o confident_a but_o such_o as_o have_v receive_v these_o thing_n here_o mention_v may_v fall_v away_o except_o they_o go_v forward_o and_o study_v to_o make_v progress_n but_o there_o in_o those_o verse_n the_o apostle_n be_v persuade_v that_o they_o shall_v not_o fall_v away_o but_o be_v save_v and_o thereupon_o encourage_v they_o to_o go_v forward_o from_o this_o comparison_n it_o be_v clear_a then_o 1._o that_o there_o be_v a_o possibility_n of_o the_o apostasy_n of_o professor_n and_o titular_a saint_n but_o not_o of_o the_o apostasy_n of_o renew_a soul_n and_o true_a christian_n true_a saint_n 2._o there_o be_v a_o ground_n of_o fear_n from_o these_o word_n to_o such_o as_o be_v secure_a and_o puff_v up_o with_o the_o conceit_n of_o their_o spiritual_a gift_n but_o not_o of_o those_o who_o in_o fear_n be_v flee_v to_o christ._n 3._o that_o in_o this_o place_n carnal_a confidence_n only_o be_v shake_v in_o such_o who_o as_o if_o they_o have_v do_v well_o enough_o study_v not_o to_o make_v progress_n but_o i'faith_o no_o way_n weaken_v in_o such_o who_o still_o study_n to_o advance_v and_o make_v more_o and_o more_o progress_n 4._o that_o here_o fruitless_a light_n and_o fruitless_a feel_n be_v call_v in_o question_n but_o not_o faith_n and_o laborious_a love_n bring_v out_o fruit_n to_o christ_n glory_n and_o good_a of_o his_o saint_n again_o from_o this_o comparison_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v author_n both_o of_o these_o common_a spiritual_a gift_n and_o of_o these_o special_a save_a grace_n also_o of_o these_o common_a gift_n he_o be_v author_n as_o dwell_v among_o professor_n and_o distribute_v good_a thing_n unto_o all_o professor_n that_o be_v in_o the_o visible_a house_n of_o his_o church_n but_o he_o be_v author_n of_o those_o save_a grace_n as_o dwell_v in_o true_a professor_n who_o be_v his_o own_o house_n bring_v with_o himself_o better_a thing_n than_o these_o gift_n and_o salvation_n also_o unto_o they_o infallible_o three_o from_o this_o comparison_n it_o be_v clear_a 1._o that_o there_o be_v some_o convert_v external_a from_o the_o world_n to_o the_o church_n who_o yet_o stick_v in_o their_o natural_n and_o be_v not_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n flee_v unto_o christ_n for_o refuge_n nor_o convert_v from_o nature_n to_o save_a grace_n to_o who_o the_o apostle_n will_v not_o deny_v room_n in_o the_o church_n if_o they_o will_v study_v to_o make_v progress_n and_o 2._o that_o illumination_n and_o taste_v of_o spiritual_a thing_n may_v be_v give_v as_o well_o to_o such_o who_o be_v not_o renew_v in_o their_o heart_n as_o unto_o sound_n convert_v for_o 1._o the_o natural_a man_n may_v be_v convince_v that_o the_o church_n be_v a_o bless_a society_n and_o join_v himself_o unto_o it_o 2._o yea_o change_v his_o outward_a conversation_n and_o cast_v off_o his_o pollution_n which_o be_v in_o learn_v the_o literal_a knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o man_n do_v their_o philosophy_n but_o also_o may_v be_v illuminate_v supernatural_o with_o insight_n in_o many_o profound_a thing_n in_o the_o scripture_n for_o supernatural_a gift_n may_v be_v in_o a_o natural_a and_o unrenewed_a man_n so_o as_o he_o may_v say_v to_o christ_n i_o have_v prophesy_v in_o thy_o name_n and_o yet_o be_v unrenewed_a in_o christ_n estimation_n 5._o he_o may_v taste_v of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n partly_o by_o historical_a believe_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n partly_o by_o contemplation_n of_o the_o truth_n credit_v now_o historical_a faith_n be_v a_o taste_n of_o that_o heavenly_a gift_n of_o justify_v faith_n because_o it_o be_v a_o good_a degree_n towards_o it_o and_o contemplation_n of_o this_o truth_n bring_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o thing_n credit_v and_o so_o of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n for_o the_o contemplation_n of_o every_o truth_n bring_v with_o it_o natural_o a_o delectation_n such_o as_o philosopher_n do_v find_v in_o their_o study_n and_o the_o more_o eminent_a the_o truth_n be_v no_o wonder_n the_o delectation_n be_v the_o great_a for_o many_o hear_v christ_n gracious_a sermon_n and_o wonder_v and_o believe_v his_o word_n to_o be_v true_a but_o christ_n do_v not_o commit_v himself_o unto_o they_o for_o he_o know_v what_o be_v in_o they_o 6._o he_o may_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o have_v his_o share_n of_o church_n gift_n distribute_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n so_o as_o he_o can_v from_o the_o light_n which_o â—he_v holy_a ghost_n give_v he_o answer_v other_o man_n doubt_n comfort_v the_o feeble_a mind_v and_o edify_v other_o in_o their_o faith_n by_o his_o speech_n yea_o have_v the_o gift_n of_o express_v his_o brain-light_n both_o in_o conference_n to_o man_n and_o in_o formal_a prayer_n to_o god_n if_o he_o be_v a_o private_a man_n only_o and_o if_o he_o be_v in_o public_a office_n may_v
