must_v consider_v 1._o that_o if_o the_o gospel_n be_v so_o strict_o take_v as_o it_o be_v by_o many_o as_o to_o contain_v and_o consist_v only_o in_o promise_n than_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o no_o sin_n no_o not_o final_a unbelief_n can_v be_v threaten_v with_o death_n by_o the_o law_n of_o god-redeemer_n as_o redeemer_n 2._o we_o must_v know_v that_o in_o scripture_n by_o death_n be_v mean_v punishment_n in_o general_n whether_o it_o be_v temporal_a or_o eternal_a bodily_a or_o spiritual_a 3._o that_o every_o sin_n deserve_v death_n that_o be_v punishment_n whether_o they_o be_v sin_n remissible_a by_o christ_n sacrifice_n yet_o in_o respect_n of_o divine_a ordination_n and_o the_o term_n define_v for_o remission_n they_o be_v irremissible_a so_o that_o as_o sin_n by_o christ_n death_n they_o be_v remissible_a yet_o make_v irremissible_a per_fw-la accidens_fw-la in_o another_o respect_n yet_o here_o we_o must_v observe_v that_o not_o only_o final_a unbelief_n and_o impenitency_n be_v sin_n against_o the_o law_n of_o redemption_n and_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o every_o degree_n of_o they_o from_o the_o first_o to_o the_o last_o from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a be_v so_o too_o neither_o be_v final_a unbelief_n mere_o as_o final_a unpardonable_a but_o per_fw-la accidens_fw-la because_o after_o a_o certain_a time_n grant_v by_o god_n propose_v christ_n and_o he_o only_o and_o christ_n alone_o as_o the_o complete_a high_a priest_n sacrifice_v himself_o and_o plead_v his_o sacrifice_n as_o the_o mean_n and_o only_a mean_n of_o justification_n justify_v faith_n believe_v all_o this_o and_o out_o of_o this_o belief_n rest_v upon_o christ_n and_o christ_n alone_o and_o plead_v he_o and_o he_o alone_o and_o none_o else_o nothing_o else_o this_o faith_n be_v not_o a_o persuasion_n that_o our_o sin_n be_v already_o forgive_v §_o five_o nor_o a_o speculative_a assent_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n concern_v christ_n as_o our_o saviour_n which_o vanish_v with_o the_o speculation_n and_o do_v not_o pierce_v the_o inward_o of_o the_o soul_n nor_o be_v it_o any_o kind_n of_o rest_v upon_o christ_n as_o our_o high_a priest_n and_o mediator_n neither_o be_v it_o a_o sincere_a receive_n of_o christ_n as_o our_o lord_n and_o king_n much_o less_o be_v it_o a_o general_a act_n of_o faith_n in_o god_n redeemer_n mere_o consider_v under_o that_o general_a notion_n 1._o it_o can_v be_v a_o persuasion_n that_o our_o sin_n for_o christ_n sake_n be_v already_o forgive_v for_n we_o must_v believe_v before_o we_o can_v be_v justify_v much_o more_o before_o we_o can_v be_v assure_v that_o we_o be_v justify_v but_o this_o persuasion_n follow_v justification_n and_o remission_n itself_o it_o put_v the_o act_n before_o the_o object_n and_o the_o reward_n before_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o duty_n and_o so_o make_v justify_v faith_n which_o be_v antecedent_n to_o be_v consequent_a and_o needless_a and_o from_o hence_o its_o consequent_a that_o a_o man_n may_v be_v justify_v without_o faith_n by_o a_o faith_n which_o follow_v justification_n but_o these_o thing_n be_v absurd_a to_o a_o considerate_a christian._n 2._o it_o be_v not_o a_o mere_a speculative_a assent_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n concern_v christ_n for_o it_o presuppose_v practical_a act_n antecedent_n and_o issue_n from_o a_o practical_a habit_n it_o look_v upon_o and_o close_v fast_o with_o the_o object_n wherein_o there_o be_v the_o high_a and_o most_o powerful_a motive_n unto_o practice_n and_o obedience_n that_o ever_o be_v or_o possible_o can_v be_v how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v believe_v serious_o that_o stupendous_a love_n of_o god_n which_o move_v he_o to_o give_v his_o only_o beget_v son_n that_o whosoever_o believe_v on_o he_o shall_v not_o perish_v but_o have_v everlasting_a life_n and_o not_o be_v powerful_o stir_v up_o to_o love_v that_o most_o love_a and_o merciful_a god_n who_o love_v he_o so_o much_o how_o can_v faith_n look_v upon_o the_o son_n of_o god_n blee_a and_o die_v for_o his_o sin_n upon_o the_o cross_n and_o not_o hate_v sin_n with_o a_o eternal_a on_o christ_n for_o benefit_n and_o not_o duty_n we_o may_v rest_v on_o christ_n and_o yet_o continue_v in_o sin_n be_v hypocrite_n and_o so_o presume_v it_o must_v be_v a_o total_a and_o a_o sincere_a dependence_n with_o a_o detestation_n of_o sin_n 4._o it_o be_v not_o a_o receive_v he_o as_o lord_n and_o king_n in_o that_o it_o presuppose_v he_o as_o so_o receive_v already_o for_o faith_n itself_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o obedience_n and_o presuppose_v a_o submission_n unto_o he_o as_o lord_n and_o king_n to_o command_v and_o bind_v we_o to_o obedience_n but_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o receive_v christ_n for_o duty_n another_o to_o receive_v he_o for_o benefit_n justification_n be_v a_o benefit_n a_o reward_n not_o a_o duty_n not_o a_o act_n of_o obedience_n and_o though_o faith_n receive_v christ_n as_o priest_n for_o justification_n be_v a_o duty_n as_o do_v that_o which_o be_v command_v yet_o it_o be_v but_o the_o general_a nature_n of_o it_o whereby_o it_o agree_v with_o and_o differ_v not_o from_o any_o duty_n command_v by_o god_n redeemer_n and_o consider_v it_o as_o a_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o work_n and_o faith_n itself_o as_o a_o work_n be_v not_o justify_v but_o to_o come_v more_o close_o up_o to_o the_o point_n and_o head_n of_o the_o matter_n now_o by_o some_o

duty_n 1._o in_o general_a command_v by_o god_n redeemer_n 2._o as_o this_o particular_a duty_n receive_v christ_n as_o priest_n in_o this_o matter_n but_o neither_o of_o these_o way_n consider_v be_v it_o a_o receive_v christ_n as_o lord_n and_o king_n but_o presuppose_v he_o as_o so_o receive_v for_o so_o to_o receive_v he_o be_v the_o act_n of_o submission_n or_o subjection_n which_o be_v necessary_o antecedent_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o any_o particular_a obedience_n to_o any_o particular_a command_n as_o this_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v submission_n have_v for_o object_v the_o unto_o the_o merit_n if_o christ_n have_v not_o merit_v god_n have_v never_o promise_v if_o god_n have_v never_o promise_v justification_n have_v never_o follow_v upon_o this_o faith_n for_o let_v a_o and_o plead_v the_o propitiation_n and_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o his_o sake_n as_o such_o to_o give_v the_o benefit_n as_o receive_v christ_n and_o the_o gracious_a promise_n in_o this_o for_o as_o when_o they_o desire_v god_n to_o take_v vengeance_n of_o cruel_a oppressor_n and_o bloody_a murderer_n they_o give_v he_o the_o title_n of_o god_n to_o who_o vengeance_n belong_v psal._n 94._o 1_o 2_o 3._o etc._n etc._n many_o such_o instance_n may_v be_v give_v from_o these_o word_n also_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o quality_n require_v to_o a_o effectual_a prayer_n especial_o if_o we_o join_v with_o the_o preface_n the_o body_n of_o the_o prayer_n wherein_o we_o have_v the_o thing_n pray_v for_o and_o because_o we_o can_v have_v little_a heart_n to_o pray_v when_o we_o have_v
