and_o unspeakable_a price_n then_o we_o must_v pass_v the_o time_n of_o our_o sojourn_v here_o in_o fear_n here_o consider_v verse_n 1._o the_o benefit_n redemption_n 2._o from_o what_o their_o vain_a conversation_n which_o be_v set_v out_o by_o the_o original_a of_o it_o the_o tradition_n of_o their_o father_n 3._o the_o price_n whereby_o purchase_v which_o be_v set_v down_o first_o negative_o where_o be_v show_v what_o it_o be_v not_o no_o worldly_a thing_n such_o as_o silver_n and_o gold_n describe_v by_o the_o nature_n and_o quality_n corruptible_a thing_n then_o affirmative_o where_o hear_v note_n doct._n that_o a_o man_n may_v know_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o redeem_v one_o redeem_v he_o may_v know_v that_o there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n to_o he_o and_o that_o he_o be_v translate_v from_o death_n to_o life_n 14._o he_o may_v know_v that_o he_o serve_v not_o sin_n as_o he_o be_v wont_a but_o his_o heart_n be_v to_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o that_o he_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n and_o do_v a_o man_n know_v himself_o redeem_v use._n he_o must_v pass_v his_o time_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o in_o vain_a do_v such_o boast_v that_o they_o be_v redeem_v that_o live_v yet_o in_o their_o sin_n that_o you_o be_v redeem_v here_o note_n 1._o that_o as_o mercy_n presuppose_v misery_n doctr._n so_o redemption_n bondage_n and_o slavery_n slavery_n neither_o be_v the_o bondage_n wherein_o we_o stand_v such_o as_o of_o pharaoh_n or_o the_o turk_n but_o ten_o thousand_o time_n worse_o even_o of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o devil_n god_n indeed_o make_v we_o free_a in_o adam_n sin_z nor_o satan_n have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o we_o but_o we_o all_o sin_v in_o adam_n become_v subject_a not_o only_o to_o the_o wrath_n and_o curse_n of_o god_n the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n and_o the_o forerunner_n of_o both_o but_o to_o sin_n also_o and_o so_o by_o nature_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o sin_n we_o drink_v sin_n as_o a_o thirsty_a man_n do_v water_n it_o be_v as_o natural_a to_o we_o as_o for_o the_o fire_n to_o burn_v so_o fast_o be_v our_o will_n bind_v to_o the_o will_n of_o the_o devil_n that_o for_o our_o life_n we_o can_v think_v a_o good_a thought_n now_o as_o all_o bondage_n be_v abhort_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n so_o the_o base_a person_n one_o be_v in_o bondage_n too_o the_o more_o odious_a it_o be_v to_o they_o that_o see_v it_o and_o the_o more_o tedious_a to_o themselves_o that_o bear_v it_o now_o none_o so_o base_a in_o the_o world_n as_o sin_n and_o the_o devil_n the_o woeful_a enemy_n of_o god_n and_o our_o soul_n this_o shall_v humble_v we_o all_o use._n be_v in_o this_o woeful_a case_n and_o so_o will_v it_o do_v if_o we_o can_v be_v bring_v to_o believe_v it_o 33._o but_o as_o the_o jew_n we_o think_v we_o be_v never_o in_o bondage_n to_o any_o and_o find_v our_o body_n at_o liberty_n conceive_v so_o of_o our_o soul_n whereas_o both_o be_v in_o a_o spiritual_a bondage_n unto_o evil_n nay_o such_o be_v our_o woeful_a bondage_n as_o we_o can_v believe_v we_o be_v in_o it_o nor_o can_v desire_v to_o come_v out_o of_o it_o but_o natural_o we_o love_v and_o desire_v it_o &_o thereupon_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o mean_n of_o our_o freedom_n most_o think_v that_o if_o they_o may_v have_v their_o lust_n satisfy_v and_o fetch_v their_o fling_n in_o all_o manner_n of_o evil_n some_o of_o pleasure_n some_o of_o their_o unconscionable_a deal_n etc._n etc._n o_o it_o be_v a_o little_a heaven_n o_o such_o town_n and_o house_n where_o they_o may_v thus_o have_v their_o will_n be_v the_o only_a place_n but_o for_o the_o town_n and_o service_n where_o they_o may_v not_o thus_o lash_v out_o but_o be_v restrain_v and_o must_v be_v bring_v to_o the_o word_n prayer_n reading_n repetition_n catechise_v and_o the_o like_a o_o fie_o upon_o it_o say_v they_o here_o be_v a_o bondage_n a_o slavery_n who_o will_v be_v tie_v thus_o if_o my_o year_n be_v our_o once_o i_o will_v lay_v a_o stone_n there_o etc._n etc._n this_o be_v a_o hard_a say_n who_o can_v bear_v it_o let_v we_o break_v their_o band_n and_o cast_v their_o coard_n from_o we_o if_o this_o preach_a be_v suffer_v we_o shall_v do_v nothing_o short_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v merry_a we_o shall_v have_v our_o hand_n bind_v behind_o we_o thus_o count_v god_n service_n must_v have_v neither_o heart_n tongue_n wit_n will_n eye_n ear_n but_o for_o the_o lord_n and_o all_o to_o be_v at_o his_o command_n o_o that_o we_o will_v often_o think_v of_o our_o redemption_n as_o very_o as_o we_o be_v unfeigned_o humble_v with_o desire_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o not_o to_o sin_n so_o very_o may_v we_o believe_v ourselves_o pardon_v 12._o for_o which_o according_o we_o be_v enjoin_v daily_o to_o pray_v yea_o if_o we_o have_v be_v overtake_v more_o foul_o for_o want_v of_o watchfulness_n yet_o let_v we_o not_o despair_v as_o cain_n or_o run_v from_o god_n as_o themselves_o labour_v more_o for_o good_n than_o grace_n but_o what_o shall_v we_o say_v to_o those_o minister_n that_o check_v their_o people_n for_o forwardness_n and_o seek_v to_o discourage_v they_o what_o also_o to_o those_o parent_n that_o be_v so_o far_o from_o desire_v grace_n for_o their_o child_n as_o they_o check_v and_o discourage_v they_o for_o their_o forwardness_n thereunto_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v no_o new_a doctrine_n but_o that_o which_o of_o old_a be_v reveal_v to_o all_o the_o prophet_n though_o now_o more_o clear_o and_o full_o manifest_v therefore_o see_v god_n have_v do_v so_o great_a thing_n for_o we_o by_o christ_n jesus_n and_o these_o thing_n be_v reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v very_o ancient_a good_a reason_n they_o shall_v cleave_v to_o hope_n a_o presumptuous_a conceit_n of_o their_o own_o head_n without_o ground_n or_o bottom_n in_o god_n word_n a_o illusion_n wherewith_o the_o devil_n seek_v to_o undo_v they_o get_v they_o to_o bear_v themselves_o fair_a in_o hand_n that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v trouble_v till_o wrath_n overtake_v they_o without_o help_n yea_o it_o may_v appear_v they_o be_v not_o beget_v again_o to_o it_o for_o be_v ask_v how_o long_o it_o have_v be_v thus_o with_o they_o they_o thank_v god_n they_o have_v ever_o be_v of_o a_o good_a belief_n and_o they_o have_v no_o ground_n for_o it_o but_o because_o god_n a_o merciful_a god_n etc._n etc._n not_o consider_v that_o god_n be_v as_o just_a as_o merciful_a and_o that_o his_o justice_n must_v first_o be_v satisfy_v ere_o he_o can_v show_v any_o mercy_n beside_o they_o can_v say_v it_o have_v be_v wrought_v as_o god_n work_v faith_n in_o he_o viz._n first_o he_o humble_v and_o bring_v to_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n and_o then_o lift_v up_o this_o be_v not_o with_o they_o they_o also_o can_v say_v nor_o remember_v when_o it_o be_v wrought_v nor_o how_o they_o come_v by_o it_o nor_o that_o it_o have_v be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o at_o any_o time_n beside_o 9_o true_a faith_n purify_v the_o heart_n and_o he_o that_o have_v it_o purge_v himself_o as_o he_o be_v pure_a 3_o which_o be_v not_o in_o they_o but_o they_o abide_v in_o their_o sin_n at_o least_o in_o the_o love_n of_o some_o and_o have_v no_o faith_n for_o outward_a thing_n but_o use_v unconscionable_a shift_n 5._o therefore_o whereas_o true_a hope_n make_v not_o ashamed_a but_o in_o the_o needful_a time_n and_o great_a day_n will_v make_v man_n lift_v up_o their_o head_n with_o joy_n this_o will_v be_v like_o egypt_n a_o deceitful_a and_o break_a reed_n to_o lay_v they_o under_o what_o a_o thing_n be_v it_o not_o only_o to_o give_v his_o only_a son_n to_o the_o death_n for_o we_o but_o to_o reveal_v it_o to_o we_o in_o his_o word_n and_o thereby_o to_o assure_v we_o that_o we_o have_v our_o part_n in_o the_o same_o and_o we_o poor_a sinner_n may_v come_v to_o know_v our_o sin_n forgive_v and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v save_v oh_o unspeakable_a favour_n i_o what_o be_v like_o this_o or_o what_o can_v make_v a_o man_n miserable_a that_o have_v this_o prize_n we_o this_o as_o a_o jewel_n nourish_v we_o it_o by_o all_o good_a mean_n especial_o by_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n rejoice_v in_o it_o as_o be_v of_o more_o worth_n than_o all_o the_o world_n let_v not_o a_o few_o want_n or_o affliction_n daunt_v we_o or_o take_v away_o this_o joy_n it_o be_v a_o fault_n in_o christian_n that_o they_o will_v be_v heavy_a if_o they_o want_v something_o they_o will_v have_v oh_o be_v it_o not_o enough_o that_o god_n love_v thou_o again_o a_o little_a cross_n cast_v we_o down_o and_o quell_v we_o as_o if_o we_o have_v nothing_o to_o comfort_v we_o oh_o no_o earthly_a thing_n shall_v daunt_v we_o while_o we_o know_v this_o he_o that_o say_v i_o can_v be_v excessive_o and_o curious_o costly_a and_o dainty_a dish_n when_o man_n be_v fill_v with_o wholesome_a and_o sufficient_a food_n before_o it_o be_v good_a there_o shall_v be_v plenty_n according_a to_o every_o man_n ability_n that_o so_o the_o poor_a may_v be_v remember_v and_o some_o variety_n too_o to_o show_v god_n bounty_n and_o because_o all_o love_v not_o alike_o but_o overmuch_o costliness_n be_v not_o meet_v that_o which_o in_o the_o end_n of_o feast_n be_v oftentimes_o wasteful_o spend_v will_v go_v a_o great_a way_n with_o the_o poor_a and_o much_o comfort_v they_o if_o the_o charge_n be_v employ_v this_o way_n but_o many_o that_o stand_v not_o at_o many_o shilling_n this_o way_n will_v grudge_v at_o as_o many_o penny_n to_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a it_o be_v a_o if_o christian_n will_v meet_v like_o christian_n for_o society_n and_o not_o for_o meat_n and_o be_v content_a with_o one_o dish_n or_o two_o it_o be_v much_o better_o and_o then_o it_o may_v be_v often_o this_o duty_n be_v require_v of_o minister_n and_o that_o elsewhere_o particular_o as_o well_o as_o other_o hospitality_n for_o they_o be_v fit_a to_o counsel_v and_o comfort_v stranger_n be_v easy_o find_v out_o and_o must_v go_v before_o their_o people_n in_o the_o practice_n of_o that_o they_o teach_v and_o shall_v thus_o both_o provoke_v other_o the_o better_a and_o make_v a_o way_n from_o hand_n to_o mouth_n and_o according_o they_o do_v so_o pole_n from_o he_o that_o he_o can_v do_v no_o good_a this_o way_n but_o though_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v pompous_a nor_o sumptuous_a nor_o rake_v after_o farm_n and_o wealth_n yet_o they_o must_v and_o aught_o to_o live_v in_o good_a sort_n as_o well_o as_o themselves_o such_o as_o have_v skill_n in_o the_o scripture_n or_o have_v yea_o in_o the_o better_a sort_n it_o do_v great_o abate_v the_o edge_n of_o all_o they_o hear_v yet_o do_v not_o the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n and_o efficacy_n of_o the_o sacrament_n depend_v on_o be_v covetous_a etc._n etc._n if_o he_o can_v prevail_v in_o those_o then_o in_o some_o lesser_a thing_n as_o in_o their_o apparel_n the_o government_n of_o their_o family_n and_o the_o like_a if_o he_o can_v do_v thus_o much_o yet_o will_v he_o rather_o play_v at_o some_o small_a game_n then_o sit_v out_o he_o will_v then_o raise_v up_o false_a report_n of_o godly_a minister_n which_o he_o know_v will_v be_v listen_v unto_o and_o do_v some_o hurt_n 1._o for_o minister_n 1_o 1._o they_o must_v live_v among_o their_o people_n else_o how_o can_v they_o give_v they_o good_a example_n and_o so_o win_v they_o 2._o they_o must_v look_v exceed_o wary_o to_o their_o life_n yea_o to_o their_o wife_n and_o child_n behaviour_n we_o must_v watch_v over_o our_o own_o heart_n bridle_n and_o beat_v down_o our_o corruption_n avoid_v all_o appearance_n of_o evil_n all_o the_o least_o occasion_n of_o evil_n for_o a_o mote_n in_o we_o will_v be_v count_v a_o beam_n and_o do_v more_o hurt_n than_o a_o beam_n in_o another_o yea_o we_o must_v not_o only_o beware_v in_o thing_n evil_a but_o even_o abridge_v ourselves_o in_o lawful_a thing_n of_o something_o we_o may_v do_v and_o that_o for_o the_o people_n weakness_n as_o of_o our_o lawful_a recreation_n or_o refresh_n so_o that_o we_o wrong_v not_o ourselves_o too_o much_o herein_o and_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o maintenance_n seek_v get_v that_o they_o leave_v it_o will_v increase_v their_o torment_n to_o see_v they_o be_v such_o fool_n therefore_o to_o be_v excessive_o careful_a be_v neither_o good_a for_o ourselves_o nor_o our_o child_n we_o must_v follow_v our_o call_n and_o be_v thrifty_a and_o go_v as_o far_o as_o we_o may_v lawful_o and_o no_o further_o we_o must_v give_v our_o child_n good_a education_n and_o if_o
