¶ For Rain O God heavenly Father who by thy Son Jesus Christ hath promised to all them that seek thy Kingdom and the righteousness thereof all things necessary to their bodily sustenance Send us we beseech thee in this our necessity such moderate rain and showres that we may receive the fruits of the earth to our comfort and to thy honour through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen ¶ For fair Weather O Almighty Lord God who for the sin of man didst once drown all the world except eight persons and afterward of thy great mercy didst promise never to destroy it so again We humbly beseech thee that although we for our iniquities have worthily deserved a plague of rain and waters yet upon our true repentance thou wilt send us such weather as that we may receive the fruits of the earth in due season and learn both by thy punishment to amend our lives and for thy clemency to give thee praise and glory through Jesus Christ our Lord. HEar my prayer O Lord and let my crying come unto thee 2 Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble incline thine ears unto me when I call O hear me and that right soon 3 For any days are consumed away like smoke and my bones are burnt up as it were a fire-brand 4 My heart is smitten down and withered like grass so that I forget to eat my bread 5 For the voice of my groning my bones will scarce cleave to my flesh 6 I am become like a pelican in the wilderness and like an owl that is in the desert 7 I have watched and am even as it were a sparrow that sitteth alone upon the house-top 8 Mine enemies revile me all the day long and they that are mad upon me are sworn together against me 9 For I have eaten ashes as it were bread and mingled my drink with weeping 10 And that because of thine indignation and wrath for thou hast taken me up and cast me down 11 My days are gone like a shadow and I am withered like grass 12 But thou O Lord shalt endure for ever and thy remembrance throughout all generations 13 Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Sion for it is time that thou have mercy upon her yea the time is come 14 And why thy servants think upon her stones and it pitieth them to see her in the dust 15 The heathen shall fear thy Name O Lord and all the kings of the earth thy Majesty 16 When the Lord shall build up Sion and when his glory shall appear 17 When he turneth him unto the prayer of the poor destitute and despiseth not their desire 18 This shall be written for those that come after and the people which shall be born shall praise the Lord. 19 For he hath looked down from his sanctuary out of the heaven did the Lord behold the earth 20 That he might hear the mournings of such as are in captivity and deliver the children appointed unto death 21 That they may declare the Name of the Lord in Sion and his worship at Jerusalem 22 When the people are gathered together and the kingdoms also to serve the Lord. 23 He brought down my strength in my journey and shortned my days 24 But I said O my God take me not away in the midst of mine age as for thy years they endure throughout all generations 25 Thou Lord in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of thy hands 26 They shall perish but thou shalt endure they all shall wax old as doth a garment 27 And as a vesture shalt thou change them and they shall be changed but thou art the same and thy years shall not fail 28 The children of thy servants shall continue and their seed shall stand fast in thy sight Benedic anima mea Psal 103. Forms of Prayer to be used at SEA ¶ The Morning and Evening Service to be used daily at Sea shall be the same which is appointed in the Book of Common Prayer ¶ These two following Prayers are to be also used in His Majesties Navy every day O Eternal Lord God who alone spreadest out the heavens and rulest the raging of the sea who hast compassed the waters with bounds until day and night come to an end Be pleased to receive into thy Almighty and most gracious protection the persons of us thy servants and the Fleet in which we serve Preserve us from the dangers of the Sea and from the violence of the enemy that we may be a safeguard unto our most gracious Sovereign Lord King WILLIAM and his Kingdoms and a security for such as pass on the Seas upon their lawful occasions that the Inhabitants of our Island may in peace and quietness serve thee our God and that we may return in safety to enjoy the blessings of the land with the fruits of our labours and with a thankful remembrance of thy mercies to praise and glorifie thy Holy Name through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Collect. PRevent us O Lord in all our doings with thy most gracious favour and further us with thy continual help that in all our works begun continued and ended in thee we may glorifie thy holy Name and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Prayers to be used in Storms at Sea O Most powerful and glorious Lord God at whose command the winds blow and lift up the waves of the Sea and who stillest the rage thereof We thy creatures but miserable sinners do in this our great distress cry unto thee for help save Lord or else we perish We confess when we have been safe and seen all things quiet about us we have forgot thee our God and refused to hearken to the still voice of thy Word and to obey thy commandments But now we see how terrible thou art in all thy works of wonder the great God to be feared above all and therefore we adore thy divine Majesty acknowledging thy power and imploring thy goodness Help Lord and save us for thy mercies sake in Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Amen Or this O Most glorious and gracious Lord God who dwellest in heaven but beholdest all things below Look down we beseech thee and hear us calling out of
