be_v they_o liable_a to_o several_a of_o our_o temptation_n and_o inconvenience_n we_o be_v not_o tie_v to_o do_v divers_a thing_n which_o they_o do_v nor_o be_v they_o bind_v to_o some_o thing_n which_o be_v expect_v from_o we_o and_o to_o conclude_v this_o point_n if_o they_o who_o have_v so_o great_a advantage_n to_o keep_v up_o their_o zeal_n be_v yet_o too_o apt_a to_o mind_v their_o of_o god_n and_o open_a to_o they_o the_o mind_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o mystery_n of_o his_o gospel_n but_o also_o and_o especial_o to_o be_v pattern_n to_o their_o flock_n in_o every_o good_a work_n and_o to_o lead_v and_o encourage_v they_o by_o their_o example_n to_o all_o holy_a conversation_n and_o godliness_n they_o shall_v be_v burn_v shine_a and_o steady_a light_n to_o guide_v of_o some_o of_o his_o brethren_n that_o st._n paul_n utter_v the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n say_v for_o all_o seek_v their_o own_o not_o the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n i_o shall_v not_o spend_v my_o time_n in_o show_v what_o be_v here_o mean_v by_o our_o own_o thing_n and_o what_o by_o the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v sufficient_o obvious_a that_o by_o the_o former_a be_v mean_v such_o matter_n as_o relate_v only_o to_o our_o natural_a and_o temporal_a good_a and_o by_o the_o latter_a such_o thing_n as_o be_v of_o a_o spiritual_a nature_n and_o which_o relate_v unto_o christ_n eternal_a kingdom_n but_o from_o the_o word_n i_o shall_v observe_v these_o three_o general_a matter_n first_o the_o exceed_a great_a zeal_n of_o st._n paul_n above_o that_o of_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o brethren_n for_o he_o be_v i_o say_v so_o whole_o swallow_v up_o with_o the_o love_n of_o his_o master_n and_o his_o mind_n be_v so_o constant_o fix_v to_o do_v he_o honour_n and_o service_n that_o the_o generality_n of_o his_o fellow-labourer_n appear_v to_o his_o apprehension_n little_o better_o than_o carnal_a worldling_n and_o self-seekers_a for_o he_o here_o say_v of_o they_o all_o seek_v their_o own_o second_o we_o may_v hence_o observe_v that_o even_o in_o the_o primitive_a time_n of_o all_o there_o be_v much_o want_n of_o zeal_n and_o great_a defect_n and_o infirmity_n among_o the_o clergy_n themselves_o or_o else_o the_o apostle_n can_v not_o have_v say_v of_o they_o as_o he_o do_v in_o the_o text._n three_o and_o last_o that_o it_o be_v certain_o the_o special_a business_n of_o the_o clergy_n to_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o above_o all_o other_o matter_n that_o may_v be_v call_v their_o own_o otherwise_o the_o apostle_n can_v not_o have_v blame_v his_o brethren_n for_o not_o do_v so_o of_o these_o three_o general_a head_n i_o intend_v to_o speak_v at_o this_o time_n and_o first_o of_o st._n paul_n exceed_v great_a zeal_n above_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o brethren_n and_o this_o i_o know_v be_v a_o subject_a large_a enough_o of_o itself_o to_o take_v up_o all_o my_o time_n if_o i_o agreeable_a with_o my_o present_a purpose_n and_o i_o take_v it_o for_o a_o gross_a mistake_n and_o a_o error_n of_o manifold_a ill_a consequence_n which_o yet_o prevail_v among_o all_o sort_n of_o our_o modern_a dissenter_n that_o st._n paul_n be_v not_o eminent_o distinguish_v from_o almost_o all_o other_o minister_n of_o christ_n whatsoever_o not_o only_o for_o his_o extraordinary_a gift_n and_o endowment_n but_o also_o for_o his_o singular_a zeal_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n and_o high_a degree_n of_o perfection_n in_o all_o manner_n of_o self-denial_n christian_a charity_n and_o holiness_n of_o life_n and_o i_o question_n whether_o any_o mere_a man_n in_o the_o world_n ever_o arrive_v to_o such_o height_n of_o christian_a perfection_n in_o every_o respect_n as_o he_o do_v neither_o be_v other_o oblige_v by_o any_o precept_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o imitate_v his_o example_n in_o several_a case_n as_o in_o his_o preach_v the_o gospel_n gratis_o to_o the_o corinthian_n for_o he_o do_v not_o do_v it_o in_o all_o other_o place_n and_o his_o labour_v with_o his_o own_o hand_n that_o he_o may_v not_o be_v chargeable_a to_o any_o of_o they_o which_o be_v a_o peculiar_a piece_n of_o self-denial_n in_o he_o and_o a_o voluntary_a offering_n which_o he_o humble_o glory_v in_o and_o expect_v in_o a_o special_a manner_n to_o be_v reward_v for_o it_o i_o may_v give_v the_o least_o offence_n or_o suspicion_n of_o offence_n to_o any_o in_o the_o discharge_n of_o his_o ministry_n as_o may_v appear_v to_o he_o that_o read_v the_o 9th_o chapt._n of_o his_o first_o epist_n to_o the_o corinthian_n and_o if_o we_o consider_v his_o life_n and_o behaviour_n a_o little_a more_o particular_o and_o with_o respect_n to_o what_o he_o say_v here_o in_o the_o text_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o he_o seek_v not_o his_o own_o thing_n but_o those_o of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o every_o instance_n that_o can_v be_v name_v for_o it_o be_v plain_a he_o seek_v not_o his_o own_o worldly_a interest_n be_v perfect_o crucify_a unto_o the_o world_n and_o he_o count_v all_o thing_n in_o it_o but_o as_o dung_n when_o they_o stand_v in_o competition_n with_o his_o duty_n to_o god_n or_o may_v be_v the_o least_o hindrance_n to_o he_o in_o the_o win_n of_o christ_n he_o seek_v not_o his_o own_o ease_n for_o he_o be_v in_o continual_a travel_n watch_n and_o labour_n of_o many_o kind_n he_o labour_v more_o abundant_o than_o they_o all_o i._n e._n more_o than_o any_o one_o of_o the_o most_o zealous_a of_o christ_n apostle_n he_o seek_v not_o his_o own_o honour_n or_o greatness_n for_o he_o perfect_o know_v how_o to_o be_v abase_v and_o do_v actual_o humble_a and_o debase_v himself_o to_o the_o mean_a dispensation_n of_o travel_v up_o and_o down_o on_o foot_n and_o
