he_o stand_v or_o fall_v to_o his_o own_o master_n rom._n 14._o second_o that_o all_o master_n have_v authority_n over_o their_o servant_n though_o the_o master_n be_v a_o poor_a man_n or_o a_o ignorant_a man_n or_o a_o cruel_a man_n or_o a_o froward_a man_n or_o a_o hard_a man_n yet_o the_o servant_n must_v be_v subject_a to_o he_o and_o bear_v himself_o as_o reverent_o and_o obedient_a as_o if_o he_o be_v the_o rich_a or_o wise_a or_o worthy_a master_n in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o subjection_n be_v due_a not_o to_o the_o master_n riches_n or_o gift_n or_o greatness_n but_o to_o the_o authority_n which_o god_n have_v give_v he_o as_o a_o master_n and_o therefore_o servant_n must_v look_v to_o this_o point_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o it_o will_v be_v the_o great_a trial_n of_o their_o snbjection_n and_o singleness_n of_o heart_n when_o neither_o fear_n nor_o reward_n nor_o any_o outward_a respect_n do_v compel_v or_o constrain_v they_o but_o simple_o the_o conscience_n of_o god_n commandment_n and_o the_o master_n authority_n three_o we_o may_v here_o inquire_v how_o master_n come_v by_o this_o authority_n over_o servant_n by_o nature_n they_o have_v it_o not_o and_o therefore_o must_v have_v it_o by_o law_n the_o law_n of_o man_n can_v make_v one_o man_n a_o servant_n and_o another_o a_o master_n therefore_o it_o be_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n since_o it_o be_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n if_o we_o have_v recourse_n to_o the_o ten_o commandment_n master_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o it_o be_v the_o five_o commandment_n stand_v bind_v in_o the_o common_a obligation_n to_o do_v god_n service_n as_o they_o be_v man_n and_o no_o man_n but_o be_v subject_n to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n who_o have_v give_v all_o his_o commandment_n to_o servant_n as_o well_o as_o to_o master_n three_o by_o do_v their_o master_n work_n out_o of_o conscience_n respect_v the_o will_n and_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o follow_v use._n be_v christ_n revile_v then_o it_o be_v most_o manifest_a that_o the_o world_n hate_v goodness_n incurable_o if_o that_o just_a one_o can_v escape_v reproach_n and_o slander_n then_o respect_n of_o the_o magistrate_n he_o shall_v have_v the_o better_a subject_n by_o it_o good_a christian_n be_v the_o best_a subject_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o religion_n and_o god_n word_n make_v man_n obey_v not_o for_o fear_n or_o custom_n but_o for_o conscience_n sake_n and_o for_o fear_n of_o god_n displeasure_n and_o beside_o it_o make_v man_n humble_a and_o charitable_a humble_v not_o to_o think_v themselves_o too_o good_a to_o obey_v and_o charitable_a in_o not_o suspect_v the_o meaning_n of_o prince_n further_o than_o they_o must_v needs_o and_o it_o restrain_v the_o excessive_a pronesse_n of_o man_n nature_n that_o be_v without_o religion_n apt_a to_o speak_v evil_a of_o those_o that_o be_v in_o authority_n and_o chief_o because_o true_a religion_n will_v make_v man_n pray_v hearty_o to_o god_n for_o their_o governor_n and_o god_n himself_o do_v spare_v or_o bless_v they_o the_o rather_o for_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o righteous_a the_o use_n shall_v be_v of_o man_n as_o not_o to_o be_v so_o forward_a and_o busy_a about_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n further_o a_o question_n may_v be_v here_o ask_v why_o the_o duty_n of_o magistrate_n be_v not_o here_o set_v down_o as_o well_o as_o the_o duty_n of_o subject_n i_o answer_v that_o in_o those_o time_n of_o the_o apostle_n the_o magistrate_n be_v without_o so_o far_o from_o be_v christian_n that_o they_o do_v for_o the_o most_o part_n persecute_v that_o way_n and_o therefore_o they_o do_v avoid_v meddle_v or_o undertake_v to_o teach_v they_o that_o will_v not_o learn_v but_o rather_o be_v why_o the_o duty_n of_o master_n be_v not_o here_o handle_v and_o in_o other_o place_n of_o the_o epistle_n but_o brief_o for_o many_o time_n the_o description_n of_o the_o duty_n of_o superior_n be_v use_v but_o as_o a_o glass_n by_o the_o inferior_n to_o pry_v into_o the_o fault_n of_o those_o that_o rule_v they_o and_o so_o grow_v careless_a and_o wilful_o stubborn_a under_o pretence_n of_o the_o fault_n of_o their_o superior_n but_o some_o one_o may_v say_v that_o by_o this_o mean_n if_o the_o magistrate_n do_v turn_v christian_n they_o be_v leave_v without_o rule_n of_o direction_n
