your_o majesty_n most_o loyal_a and_o faithful_a subject_n the_o lord_n and_o commons_o in_o parliament_n have_v due_o consider_v the_o message_n receive_v from_o your_o majesty_n concern_v your_o purpose_n of_o go_v into_o ireland_n in_o your_o own_o person_n to_o prosecute_v the_o war_n there_o with_o the_o body_n of_o your_o english_a subject_n levy_v transport_v and_o maintain_v at_o their_o charge_n which_o you_o be_v please_v to_o propound_v to_o we_o not_o as_o a_o matter_n wherein_o your_o majesty_n desire_v the_o advice_n of_o your_o parliament_n but_o as_o already_o firm_o resolve_v on_o and_o forthwith_o to_o be_v put_v in_o execution_n by_o grant_v out_o commission_n for_o the_o levy_n of_o two_o thousand_o foot_n &_o two_o hundred_o horse_n for_o a_o guard_n for_o your_o person_n when_o you_o shall_v come_v into_o that_o kingdom_n wherein_o we_o can_v choose_v but_o with_o all_o reverence_n and_o humility_n to_o your_o majesty_n observe_v that_o you_o have_v decline_v your_o great_a council_n the_o parliament_n and_o vary_v from_o the_o usual_a course_n of_o your_o royal_a predecessor_n that_o a_o business_n of_o so_o great_a importance_n concern_v the_o peace_n and_o safety_n of_o all_o your_o subject_n and_o wherein_o they_o have_v a_o special_a interest_n by_o your_o majesty_n promise_n and_o by_o those_o great_a sum_n which_o they_o have_v disburse_v and_o for_o which_o they_o stand_v engage_v shall_v be_v conclude_v and_o undertake_v without_o their_o advice_n whereupon_o we_o hold_v it_o our_o duty_n to_o declare_v that_o if_o at_o this_o time_n your_o majesty_n shall_v go_v into_o ireland_n you_o will_v very_o much_o endanger_v the_o safety_n of_o your_o royal_a person_n and_o kingdom_n and_o of_o all_o other_o state_n profess_v the_o protestant_a religion_n in_o christendom_n and_o make_v way_n to_o the_o execution_n of_o that_o cruel_a and_o bloody_a design_n of_o the_o papist_n every_o where_o to_o root_v out_o and_o destroy_v the_o reform_a religigion_n as_o the_o irish_a papist_n have_v in_o a_o great_a part_n already_o effect_v in_o that_o kingdom_n and_o in_o all_o likelihood_n will_v quick_o be_v atempt_v in_o other_o place_n if_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o strength_n and_o union_n of_o the_o two_o nation_n of_o england_n and_o scotland_n do_v not_o much_o hinder_v and_o discourage_v the_o execution_n of_o any_o such_o design_n and_o that_o we_o may_v manifest_v to_o your_o majesty_n the_o danger_n and_o misery_n which_o such_o a_o journey_n and_o enterprise_n will_v produce_v we_o present_v to_o your_o majesty_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o our_o humble_a opinion_n and_o advice_n 1_o your_o royal_a person_n will_v be_v subject_a not_o only_o to_o the_o casualty_n of_o war_n but_o to_o secret_a practice_n and_o conspiracy_n especial_o your_o majesty_n continue_v your_o profession_n to_o maintain_v the_o protestant_a religion_n in_o that_o kingdom_n which_o the_o papist_n be_v general_o bind_v by_o their_o vow_n to_o extirpate_v 2_o it_o will_v exceed_o encourage_v the_o rebel_n who_o do_v general_o profess_v and_o declare_v that_o your_o majesty_n do_v favour_n &_o allow_v their_o proceed_n &_o that_o this_o insurrection_n be_v undertake_v by_o the_o warrant_n of_o your_o commission_n and_o it_o will_v make_v good_a their_o expectation_n of_o great_a advantage_n by_o your_o majesty_n presence_n at_o this_o time_n of_o so_o much_o distraction_n in_o this_o kingdom_n whereby_o they_o may_v hope_v we_o shall_v be_v disable_v to_o supply_v the_o war_n there_o especial_o there_o appear_v less_o necessity_n of_o your_o majesty_n journey_n at_o this_o time_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o manifold_a success_n which_o god_n have_v give_v against_o they_o 3._o it_o will_v much_o hinder_v and_o impair_v the_o mean_n whereby_o this_o war_n be_v to_o be_v support_v and_o increase_v the_o charge_n of_o it_o and_o in_o both_o these_o respect_n make_v it_o more_o in_o supportable_a to_o your_o subject_n and_o this_o we_o can_v confident_o affirm_v because_o many_o of_o the_o adventurer_n who_o have_v already_o subscribe_v do_v upon_o the_o knowledge_n of_o your_o majesty_n intention_n declare_v their_o resolution_n not_o to_o pay_v in_o their_o money_n and_o other_o very_o willing_a to_o have_v subscribe_v do_v now_o profess_v the_o contrary_n 4._o your_o majesty_n absence_n must_v necessary_o very_o much_o interrupt_v the_o proceed_n of_o parliament_n and_o deprive_v your_o subject_n of_o the_o benefit_n of_o those_o further_a act_n of_o grace_n and_o justice_n which_o we_o shall_v humble_o expect_v from_o your_o majesty_n for_o the_o establish_n of_o a_o perfect_a union_n and_o mutual_a confidence_n betwixt_o your_o majesty_n and_o your_o people_n and_o procure_v and_o confirm_v the_o prosperity_n and_o happiness_n of_o both_o 5._o it_o will_v exceed_o increase_v the_o jealousy_n and_o fear_n of_o your_o people_n and_o render_v their_o doubt_n more_o probable_a of_o some_o force_n intend_v by_o some_o evil_a counsel_n near_o your_o majesty_n in_o opposition_n of_o the_o parliament_n and_o favour_n of_o the_o malignant_a party_n of_o this_o kingdom_n 6._o it_o will_v bereave_v your_o parliament_n of_o that_o advantage_n whereby_o they_o be_v induce_v to_o undertake_v this_o war_n upon_o your_o majesty_n promise_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v manage_v by_o their_o advice_n which_o can_v be_v do_v if_o your_o majesty_n contrary_a to_o their_o counsel_n shall_v undertake_v to_o order_n and_o govern_v it_o in_o your_o own_o person_n upon_o which_o and_o divers_a other_o reason_n we_o have_v resolve_v by_o the_o full_a and_o concur_v agreement_n of_o both_o house_n that_o we_o can_v with_o discharge_v of_o our_o duty_n consent_n to_o any_o leavye_n or_o raise_v of_o soldier_n to_o be_v make_v by_o your_o majesty_n for_o this_o your_o intend_a expedition_n into_o ireland_n or_o to_o the_o payment_n of_o any_o army_n or_o soldier_n there_o but_o such_o as_o shall_v be_v employ_v and_o govern_v according_a to_o our_o advice_n and_o direction_n and_o that_o if_o such_o leavye_n shall_v be_v make_v by_o any_o commission_n of_o your_o majesty_n not_o agree_v to_o by_o both_o house_n of_o parliament_n we_o shall_v be_v force_v to_o interpret_v the_o same_o to_o be_v raise_v to_o the_o terror_n of_o your_o people_n and_o disturbance_n of_o the_o public_a peace_n and_o hold_v ourselves_o bind_v by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o kingdom_n to_o apply_v the_o authority_n of_o parliament_n to_o suppress_v the_o same_o and_o we_o do_v further_o most_o humble_o declare_v that_o if_o your_o majesty_n shall_v by_o ill_a counsel_n be_v persuade_v to_o go_v contrary_a to_o this_o advice_n of_o your_o parliament_n which_o we_o hope_v your_o majesty_n will_v not_o we_o do_v not_o in_o that_o case_n hold_v ourselves_o bind_v to_o submit_v to_o any_o commissioner_n which_o your_o majesty_n shall_v choose_v but_o do_v resolve_v to_o preserve_v and_o govern_v the_o kingdom_n by_o the_o counsel_n and_o advice_n of_o parliament_n for_o your_o majesty_n and_o your_o posterity_n according_a to_o our_o allegiance_n and_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n wherefore_o we_o do_v most_o humble_o pray_v and_o advise_v your_o majesty_n to_o desist_v from_o this_o your_o intend_a passage_n into_o ireland_n and_o from_o all_o preparation_n of_o man_n and_o arm_n tend_v thereunto_o and_o to_o leave_v the_o manage_n of_o that_o war_n to_o your_o parliament_n according_a to_o your_o majesty_n promise_v make_v unto_o we_o and_o your_o royal_a commission_n grant_v under_o your_o great_a seal_n of_o england_n by_o advice_n of_o both_o house_n in_o prosecution_n whereof_o by_o god_n blessing_n we_o have_v already_o make_v a_o prosperous_a entrance_n by_o many_o defeat_v of_o the_o rebel_n whereby_o they_o be_v much_o weaken_v and_o dishearten_v and_o have_v no_o probable_a mean_n of_o subsistence_n if_o our_o proceed_n shall_v not_o be_v interrupt_v by_o this_o interposition_n of_o your_o majesty_n journey_n but_o that_o we_o may_v hope_v upon_o good_a ground_n that_o within_o a_o short_a time_n without_o hazard_n of_o your_o majesty_n person_n and_o so_o much_o dangerous_a confusion_n to_o your_o kingdom_n which_o must_v needs_o ensue_v if_o you_o shall_v proceed_v in_o this_o resolution_n we_o shall_v be_v enable_v full_o to_o vindicate_v your_o majesty_n right_a and_o authority_n in_o that_o kingdom_n and_o punish_v those_o
horrible_a outrageous_a cruelty_n which_o have_v be_v commit_v in_o the_o murder_n and_o spoil_v so_o many_o of_o your_o subject_n and_o bring_v that_o realm_n to_o such_o a_o condition_n as_o may_v be_v much_o for_o the_o advantage_n of_o your_o majesty_n and_o this_o crown_n the_o honour_n of_o your_o government_n and_o contentment_n of_o your_o people_n for_o the_o better_a and_o more_o speedy_a effect_n whereof_o we_o do_v again_o renew_v our_o humble_a desire_n of_o your_o return_n to_o your_o parliament_n and_o that_o you_o will_v please_v to_o reject_v all_o counsel_n and_o apprehension_n which_o may_v any_o way_n derogate_v from_o that_o faithfulness_n and_o allegiance_n which_o in_o truth_n and_o sincerity_n we_o have_v always_o bear_v and_o profess_v to_o your_o majesty_n and_o shall_v ever_o make_v good_a to_o the_o uttermost_a with_o our_o life_n and_o fortune_n his_o majesty_n answer_n to_o a_o petition_n present_v to_o he_o at_o york_n april_n 18._o 1642._o by_o the_o earl_n of_o stamford_n etc._n etc._n in_o the_o name_n of_o both_o house_n concern_v his_o message_n late_o send_v to_o they_o declare_v his_o resolution_n to_o go_v into_o ireland_n we_o be_v so_o trouble_v and_o astonish_v to_o find_v the_o unexpected_a reception_n and_o misunderstanding_n of_o our_o message_n of_o the_o eight_o of_o april_n concern_v our_o irish_a journey_n that_o be_v so_o much_o disappoint_v of_o the_o approbation_n and_o thanks_o we_o look_v for_o to_o that_o declaration_n we_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o doubt_v whether_o it_o be_v in_o our_o power_n to_o say_v or_o do_v any_o thing_n which_o shall_v not_o fall_v within_o the_o like_a interpretation_n but_o as_o we_o have_v in_o that_o message_n call_v god_n to_o witness_v the_o sincerity_n of_o the_o profession_n of_o our_o only_a end_n for_o the_o undertake_n that_o journey_n so_o we_o must_v appeal_v to_o all_o our_o good_a subject_n and_o the_o whole_a world_n whether_o the_o reason_n allege_v against_o that_o journey_n be_v of_o weight_n to_o satisfy_v our_o understanding_n or_o the_o counsel_n present_v to_o dissuade_v we_o from_o it_o be_v full_a of_o that_o duty_n as_o be_v like_a to_o prevail_v over_o our_o affection_n for_o our_o resolve_v of_o so_o great_a a_o business_n without_o the_o advice_n of_o our_o parliament_n we_o must_v remember_v you_o howoften_v by_o our_o message_n we_o make_v the_o same_o offer_n if_o you_o shall_v advise_v we_o thereunto_o to_o which_o you_o never_o give_v we_o the_o least_o answer_n but_o in_o your_o late_a declaration_n tell_v we_o that_o you_o be_v not_o to_o be_v satisfy_v with_o word_n so_o that_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o conceive_v you_o rather_o avoid_v out_o of_o regard_n to_o our_o person_n to_o give_v we_o counsel_n to_o run_v that_o hazard_n then_o that_o you_o disapprove_v the_o inclination_n and_o what_o great_a comfort_n or_o security_n can_v the_o protestant_n of_o christendom_n receive_v then_o by_o see_v a_o protestant_a king_n venture_v and_o engage_v his_o person_n for_o the_o defence_n of_o that_o profession_n and_o the_o suppression_n of_o popery_n to_o which_o we_o solemn_o protest_v in_o that_o message_n never_o to_o grant_v a_o toleration_n upon_o what_o pretence_n soever_o or_o a_o abolition_n of_o any_o of_o the_o law_n there_o in_o force_n against_o the_o professor_n of_o it_o and_o when_o we_o consider_v the_o great_a calamity_n and_o unheard_a of_o cruelty_n our_o poor_a protestant_a subject_n in_o that_o kingdom_n have_v undergo_v for_o the_o space_n of_o near_a or_o full_a six_o month_n the_o growth_n and_o increase_n of_o the_o strength_n of_o those_o barbarous_a rebel_n and_o the_o evident_a probability_n of_o foreign_a supply_n if_o they_o be_v not_o speedy_o suppress_v the_o very_a slow_a succour_n hitherto_o send_v they_o from_o hence_o that_o the_o officer_n of_o several_a regiment_n who_o have_v long_o since_o be_v allow_v entertainment_n from_o you_o for_o that_o service_n have_v not_o raise_v any_o supply_n or_o succour_n for_o that_o kingdom_n that_o many_o troop_n of_o horse_n have_v long_o lie_v near_o chester_n untransport_v that_o the_o lord_n lieutenant_n of_o ireland_n on_o who_o we_o rely_v principal_o for_o the_o conduct_n and_o manage_n of_o affair_n there_o be_v still_o in_o this_o kingdom_n notwithstanding_o our_o earnestness_n express_v that_o he_o shall_v repair_v to_o his_o command_n and_o when_o we_o consider_v the_o many_o and_o great_a scandal_n raise_v upon_o ourselves_o by_o report_n of_o the_o rebel_n and_o not_o sufficient_o discountenance_v here_o notwithstanding_o so_o many_o profession_n of_o we_o and_o have_v see_v a_o book_n late_o print_v by_o the_o order_n of_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o entitle_v a_o remonstrance_n of_o divers_a remarkable_a passage_n concern_v the_o church_n and_o kingdom_n of_o ireland_n wherein_o some_o examination_n be_v set_v down_o which_o how_o improbable_a or_o impossible_a soever_o may_v make_v a_o impression_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o many_o of_o our_o weak_a subject_n and_o last_o when_o we_o due_o weigh_v the_o dishonour_n which_o will_v perpetual_o lie_v upon_o this_o kingdom_n if_o full_a and_o speedy_a relief_n be_v not_o dispatch_v thither_o we_o can_v nor_o can_v think_v of_o a_o better_a way_n to_o discharge_v our_o duty_n to_o almighty_a god_n for_o the_o defence_n of_o the_o true_a protestant_a profession_n or_o to_o manifest_v our_o affection_n to_o our_o three_o kingdom_n for_o their_o preservation_n then_o by_o engage_v our_o person_n in_o this_o expedition_n as_o many_o of_o our_o royal_a progenitor_n have_v do_v even_o in_o foreign_a part_n upon_o cause_n of_o less_o importance_n and_o piety_n with_o great_a honour_n to_o themselves_o and_o advantage_n to_o this_o kingdom_n and_o therefore_o we_o expect_v at_o least_o thanks_o for_o such_o our_o inclination_n for_o the_o danger_n to_o our_o person_n we_o conceive_v it_o necessary_a and_o worthy_a of_o a_o king_n to_o adventure_v his_o life_n to_o preserve_v his_o kingdom_n neither_o can_v it_o be_v imagine_v that_o we_o will_v sit_v still_o and_o suffer_v our_o kingdom_n to_o be_v lose_v and_o our_o good_a protestant_a subject_n to_o be_v massacre_v without_o expose_v our_o own_o person_n to_o the_o utmost_a hazard_n for_o their_o relief_n and_o preservation_n our_o life_n when_o it_o be_v most_o pleasant_a be_v nothing_o so_o precious_a to_o we_o as_o it_o be_v and_o shall_v be_v to_o govern_v and_o preserve_v our_o people_n with_o honour_n and_o justice_n for_o any_o encouragement_n to_o the_o rebel_n because_o of_o the_o report_v they_o raise_v we_o can_v conceive_v that_o the_o rebel_n be_v capable_a of_o a_o great_a terror_n then_o by_o the_o presence_n of_o their_o lawful_a king_n in_o the_o head_n of_o a_o army_n to_o chastise_v they_o beside_o it_o will_v be_v a_o unspeakable_a advantage_n to_o they_o if_o any_o report_n of_o they_o can_v hinder_v we_o from_o do_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v fit_a for_o we_o to_o do_v if_o such_o report_n be_v not_o raise_v this_o will_v quick_o teach_v they_o in_o this_o jealous_a age_n to_o prevent_v by_o such_o report_v any_o other_o person_n come_v against_o they_o who_o they_o have_v no_o mind_n shall_v be_v so_o employ_v we_o marvel_v that_o the_o
