honi_fw-fr soit_fw-fr qvi_fw-fr mal_fw-fr y_fw-fr pense_fw-fr dieu_fw-fr et_fw-fr mon_fw-fr droit_fw-fr a_o new_a petition_n to_o the_o king_n most_o excellent_a majesty_n the_o humble_a petition_n of_o the_o knight_n gentry_n freeholder_n of_o the_o county_n of_o york_n who_o have_v subscribe_v hereto_o present_v to_o his_o majesty_n at_o york_n april_n 30._o 1642._o desire_v a_o happy_a union_n betwixt_o the_o king_n and_o parliament_n humble_o show_v that_o at_o the_o last_o assize_n they_o with_o all_o loyal_a duty_n present_v a_o petition_n to_o your_o majesty_n and_o another_o to_o the_o lord_n and_o commons_o in_o parliament_n assemble_v contain_v their_o humble_a request_n for_o the_o declaration_n of_o such_o mean_n as_o may_v take_v away_o all_o distance_n and_o produce_v a_o bless_a union_n most_o necessary_a to_o this_o afflict_a kingdom_n which_o then_o be_v and_o we_o be_v confident_a yet_o be_v the_o earnest_a prayer_n and_o desire_n of_o all_o in_o this_o county_n who_o be_v well_o affect_v to_o your_o majesty_n the_o true_a protestant_a religion_n and_o the_o peace_n of_o your_o dominion_n and_o since_o by_o a_o letter_n from_o the_o speaker_n of_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o direct_v to_o the_o sheriff_n we_o be_v assure_v that_o they_o be_v according_o frame_n their_o humble_a desire_n to_o your_o majesty_n such_o as_o chief_o tend_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n the_o greatness_n and_o prosperity_n of_o your_o majesty_n and_o the_o public_a good_a of_o the_o common_a wealth_n yet_o since_o most_o gracious_a sovereign_n with_o much_o sorrow_n of_o heart_n we_o understand_v that_o a_o few_o gentleman_n of_o this_o county_n have_v take_v upon_o they_o to_o anticipate_v those_o demonstration_n of_o duty_n which_o both_o house_n be_v prepare_v and_o your_o majesty_n gracious_a resolution_n thereupon_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o gentry_n and_o commons_o of_o the_o county_n of_o york_n whereas_o indeed_o they_o be_v a_o very_a small_a part_n of_o the_o gentry_n only_o as_o we_o be_v inform_v in_o a_o petition_n to_o your_o majesty_n direct_o opposite_a to_o the_o petition_n of_o both_o house_n of_o parliament_n concerning_o the_o remove_n of_o the_o magazine_n at_o hull_n tend_v to_o the_o foment_n division_n betwixt_o your_o majesty_n your_o great_a council_n the_o lord_n and_o commons_n in_o this_o present_a parliament_n we_o therefore_o encourage_v by_o that_o expression_n from_o your_o majesty_n own_o mouth_n concerning_o other_o petitioner_n that_o you_o have_v not_o go_v about_o to_o discourage_v they_o from_o petition_v in_o a_o humble_a way_n and_o be_v most_o assure_v that_o our_o loyal_a affection_n to_o your_o majesty_n your_o crown_n and_o dignity_n be_v not_o inferior_a to_o any_o of_o your_o subject_n whatsoever_o and_o that_o we_o have_v better_a ground_n and_o warrant_v to_o represent_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o gentry_n and_o commons_o of_o yorkshire_n than_o those_o petitioner_n have_v yet_o be_v we_o not_o possess_v with_o so_o much_o arrogancy_n as_o to_o believe_v that_o a_o few_o among_o we_o or_o all_o the_o county_n together_o can_v judge_v of_o the_o fitness_n where_o to_o dispose_v that_o magazine_n or_o of_o the_o state_n and_o safety_n of_o this_o kingdom_n and_o of_o your_o majesty_n person_n so_o well_o as_o your_o great_a counsel_n who_o judgement_n we_o be_v bind_v to_o prefer_v before_o all_o private_a counsel_n and_o who_o endeavour_n have_v give_v we_o much_o assurance_n of_o their_o careand_a fidelity_n to_o the_o public_a which_o we_o doubt_v not_o will_v tend_v to_o the_o honour_n satisfaction_n and_o greatness_n of_o your_o sacred_a majesty_n and_o royal_a posterity_n and_o that_o your_o majesty_n will_v gracious_o apply_v yourself_o to_o all_o good_a mean_n of_o union_n that_o those_o duty_n which_o by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o man_n we_o owe_v express_v in_o our_o late_a protestation_n may_v not_o become_v a_o divide_a proposition_n since_o the_o defence_n of_o your_o majesty_n royal_a person_n honour_n and_o estate_n the_o power_n and_o privilege_n of_o parliament_n and_o the_o lawful_a right_n and_o liberty_n of_o the_o subject_a take_v joint_o do_v all_o serve_v to_o strengthen_v each_o other_o which_o we_o shall_v equal_o labour_v to_o preserve_v to_o the_o utmost_a of_o our_o life_n power_n and_o estate_n and_o your_o petitioner_n shall_v daily_o pray_v for_o your_o long_a and_o prosperous_a reign_n london_n print_v for_o john_n wright_n 1642._o
