beside_o this_o advice_n that_o in_o all_o these_o sorrow_n thou_o have_v to_o take_v compassion_n of_o thy_o saviour_n in_o such_o manner_n as_o i_o have_v say_v withal_o i_o advertise_v thou_o yea_o the_o same_o saviour_n do_v also_o require_v of_o thou_o that_o thou_o have_v another_o kind_n of_o more_o true_a compassion_n the_o which_o be_v that_o thou_o attend_v hereafter_o to_o persecute_v thyself_o will_n which_o have_v cause_v these_o his_o wound_n the_o which_o thou_o may_v as_o it_o be_v anoint_v with_o sorrow_n for_o thy_o ingratitude_n but_o to_o move_v thou_o to_o the_o hatred_n of_o sin_n thou_o shall_v apply_v all_o the_o point_n of_o thy_o meditation_n to_o this_o end_n only_o as_o if_o thy_o lord_n and_o saviour_n have_v suffer_v for_o no_o other_o end_n but_o to_o induce_v thou_o to_o hate_v thy_o evil_a inclination_n and_o that_o evil_a especial_o which_o do_v most_o molest_v thou_o and_o most_o displease_v his_o divine_a goodness_n last_o of_o all_o to_o move_v thou_o to_o admiration_n consider_v attentive_o who_o he_o be_v that_o suffer_v to_o wit_n the_o word_n incarnate_a the_o same_o god_n who_o for_o thou_o be_v make_v man_n for_o who_o he_o suffer_v for_o we_o most_o vile_a creature_n that_o always_o have_v offend_v he_o of_o who_o he_o suffer_v of_o all_o kind_n of_o most_o wicked_a people_n and_o the_o refuse_v of_o the_o common_a sort_n the_o pain_n that_o he_o suffer_v and_o they_o be_v most_o unworthy_a full_a of_o shame_n and_o of_o torment_n great_a and_o horrible_a above_o all_o estimation_n and_o that_o thou_o may_v more_o marvel_n weigh_v well_o the_o manner_n and_o the_o mind_n wherewith_o he_o suffer_v but_o believe_v that_o thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o comprehend_v it_o as_o it_o be_v indeed_o since_o that_o it_o pass_v all_o understanding_n how_o that_o poor_a and_o most_o humble_a saviour_n among_o so_o many_o anguish_v and_o shame_v show_v a_o in_o vincible_a patience_n &_o towards_o those_o cruel_a mind_n fierce_a and_o enrage_a against_o he_o he_o always_o keep_v the_o same_o heart_n full_a of_o sweetness_n and_o pure_a love_n of_o sensible_a devotion_n and_o of_o ariditie_n or_o drienesse_n chap._n 28._o sensible_a devotion_n proceed_v sometime_o of_o nature_n sometime_o of_o the_o devil_n and_o sometime_o of_o grace_n by_o the_o fruit_n thou_o shall_v know_v from_o whence_o it_o come_v not_o to_o dispute_v from_o whence_o it_o come_v nor_o leave_v unto_o it_o neither_o let_v thyself_o be_v draw_v from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o thy_o nothing_o and_o with_o great_a diligence_n &_o hatred_n of_o thyself_o remove_v from_o thy_o heart_n all_o affection_n of_o what_o thing_n soever_o desire_v god_n only_o and_o his_o pleasure_n for_o by_o this_o mean_a whether_o it_o be_v of_o nature_n or_o of_o the_o devil_n it_o will_v become_v to_o thou_o as_o of_o grace_n ariditie_n or_o drienesse_n may_v proceed_v in_o like_a manner_n from_o the_o three_o aforesaid_a cause_n from_o the_o devil_n for_o to_o make_v thy_o mind_n lukewarm_a and_o draw_v it_o back_o from_o the_o spiritual_a exercise_n to_o worldly_a delight_n of_o ourselves_o through_o our_o fault_n and_o negligence_n of_o grace_n either_o to_o admonish_v we_o that_o we_o be_v more_o diligent_a to_o leave_v every_o occupation_n that_o be_v not_o of_o god_n and_o that_o tend_v not_o to_o he_o or_o to_o unite_v ourselves_o more_o near_o unto_o he_o with_o a_o full_a resignation_n of_o ourselves_o even_o in_o spiritual_a delight_n to_o the_o end_n that_o our_o affection_n be_v fasten_v to_o these_o thing_n we_o may_v not_o divide_v our_o hart_n which_o he_o will_v have_v whole_o to_o himself_o therefore_o if_o thou_o feel_v thyself_o dry_a or_o cold_a enter_v into_o thyself_o &_o see_v for_o what_o defect_n the_o sensible_a devotion_n be_v withdraw_v from_o thou_o and_o wage_v battle_v against_o that_o not_o to_o recover_v the_o sensibility_n of_o grace_n but_o to_o take_v away_o that_o which_o displese_v the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o see_v that_o in_o no_o sort_n thou_o leave_v off_o thy_o spiritual_a exercise_n but_o continue_v they_o with_o all_o thy_o force_n though_o they_o seem_v unto_o thou_o never_o so_o unprofitable_a and_o be_v willing_a to_o drink_v of_o that_o bitter_a cup_n which_o that_o dryness_n present_v unto_o thou_o the_o which_o although_o it_o shall_v be_v sometime_o accompany_v with_o so_o many_o obscurity_n and_o such_o thick_a darkness_n of_o mind_n that_o thou_o know_v not_o whither_o to_o turn_v thou_o nor_o what_o course_n to_o take_v yet_o nevertheless_o content_v thyself_o with_o present_a desolation_n and_o stand_v firm_a in_o thy_o cross_n far_o off_o from_o all_o earthly_a delight_n although_o they_o shall_v be_v offer_v unto_o thou_o by_o the_o world_n or_o by_o creature_n conceal_v thy_o passion_n from_o any_o person_n except_o thy_o ghostly_a father_n if_o thou_o may_v have_v access_n unto_o he_o unto_o who_o thou_o
