the_o service_n we_o can_v pay_v to_o he_o can_v add_v any_o thing_n to_o his_o infinite_a blessedness_n how_o then_o must_v we_o express_v our_o thankfulness_n for_o the_o wealth_n that_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o why_o he_o himself_o have_v prescribe_v the_o way_n to_o we_o he_o have_v devolve_v his_o right_n to_o our_o kindness_n upon_o our_o brethren_n he_o have_v depute_v they_o to_o receive_v the_o real_a testimony_n of_o our_o gratitude_n to_o he_o and_o whatsoever_o obligation_n we_o put_v upon_o they_o he_o take_v they_o as_o a_o expression_n of_o our_o love_n and_o desire_n without_o respect_n to_o the_o community_n no_o at_o the_o best_a we_o be_v but_o the_o steward_n of_o god_n blessing_n a_o stock_n of_o talent_n he_o have_v commit_v to_o all_o of_o we_o to_o some_o in_o great_a and_o to_o other_o in_o small_a proportion_n and_o out_o of_o this_o stock_n he_o have_v give_v we_o leave_n to_o make_v provision_n for_o the_o necessity_n and_o conveniency_n of_o ourselves_o and_o our_o family_n but_o we_o must_v not_o think_v all_o our_o own_o that_o accrue_v to_o we_o so_o that_o it_o be_v at_o our_o liberty_n whether_o we_o will_v hoard_v it_o up_o or_o spend_v it_o profuse_o no_o we_o must_v have_v regard_n to_o the_o rest_n of_o our_o master_n servant_n after_o we_o have_v serve_v our_o own_o needs_o we_o must_v dispense_v the_o surplusage_n among_o the_o family_n of_o god_n otherwise_o we_o be_v false_a and_o wicked_a steward_n we_o abuse_v and_o misemploy_v our_o master_n talent_n and_o a_o severe_a account_n we_o shall_v one_o day_n render_v for_o so_o do_v three_o mens_fw-la religion_n and_o christianity_n be_v also_o deep_o concern_v in_o this_o point_n work_n of_o charity_n be_v so_o essential_a to_o all_o religion_n and_o more_o especial_o to_o that_o which_o we_o call_v christian_n that_o without_o they_o it_o be_v but_o a_o empty_a name_n in_o whosoever_o profess_v it_o let_v man_n pretend_v what_o they_o will_v let_v they_o be_v never_o so_o orthodox_n in_o their_o belief_n or_o regular_a in_o their_o conversation_n or_o strict_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o those_o duty_n that_o relate_v to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n yet_o if_o they_o be_v hard_o heart_v and_o uncharitable_a if_o god_n have_v give_v they_o wealth_n and_o they_o have_v not_o heart_n to_o do_v good_a with_o it_o they_o have_v no_o true_a piety_n towards_o god_n they_o may_v have_v a_o name_n to_o live_v but_o they_o be_v real_o dead_a a_o unmerciful_a christian_a or_o a_o religious_a covetous_a man_n be_v term_n that_o imply_v a_o contradiction_n for_o the_o satisfy_n you_o of_o this_o i_o shall_v but_o need_v to_o put_v these_o follow_a question_n can_v that_o man_n be_v account_v religious_a that_o neither_o love_n god_n nor_o his_o neighbour_n sure_o he_o can_v for_o these_o two_o thing_n be_v the_o whole_a of_o religion_n as_o the_o holy_a scripture_n often_o assure_v we_o but_o now_o the_o covetous_a man_n neither_o do_v the_o one_o nor_o the_o other_o his_o neighbour_n he_o do_v not_o love_n that_o be_v certain_a for_o if_o he_o do_v they_o will_v find_v some_o fruit_n of_o it_o unless_o this_o be_v to_o be_v account_v love_n to_o give_v they_o good_a word_n to_o say_v to_o a_o brother_n or_o a_o sister_n that_o be_v naked_a and_o destitute_a of_o daily_a food_n etc._n depart_v in_o peace_n be_v you_o warm_v and_o fill_v when_o notwithstanding_o they_o give_v they_o not_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v needful_a for_o the_o body_n but_o this_o kind_n of_o love_n s._n james_n have_v long_o ago_o declare_v not_o to_o be_v worth_a any_o thing_n and_o as_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n another_o apostle_n have_v put_v it_o out_o of_o doubt_n that_o the_o uncharitable_a man_n have_v no_o such_o thing_n in_o he_o 3.17_o whoso_o say_v s._n john_n have_v this_o world_n good_a and_o see_v his_o brother_n have_v need_n and_o shut_v up_o his_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n from_o he_o how_o dwell_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o he_o 4.20_o for_o he_o that_o love_v not_o his_o brother_n who_o he_o have_v see_v how_o can_v he_o love_v god_n who_o he_o have_v not_o see_v can_v he_o be_v think_v a_o religious_a man_n or_o a_o true_a christian_a that_o want_v the_o two_o main_a qualification_n that_o go_v to_o the_o make_v up_o a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n feed_v the_o poor_a and_o yet_o want_v the_o charity_n that_o he_o speak_v of_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a a_o man_n may_v give_v alm_n and_o very_o large_o and_o yet_o want_v that_o charity_n that_o s._n paul_n here_o so_o much_o recommend_v but_o then_o on_o the_o other_o side_n none_o can_v have_v that_o charity_n that_o he_o speak_v of_o but_o they_o will_v certain_o express_v it_o in_o alm_n and_o bounty_n as_o they_o have_v ability_n and_o opportunity_n so_o that_o for_o all_o this_o suggestion_n alm_n and_o bounty_n be_v absolute_o necessary_a to_o the_o efficacy_n of_o faith_n if_o there_o be_v opportunity_n of_o do_v they_o the_o plain_a account_n of_o this_o matter_n be_v this_o s._n paul_n speak_v of_o charity_n with_o respect_n to_o its_o inward_a principle_n in_o the_o heart_n which_o consist_v in_o a_o universal_a kindness_n and_o good_a will_n to_o the_o whole_a creation_n of_o god_n and_o we_o speak_v of_o it_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o outward_a fruit_n of_o it_o in_o the_o life_n and_o conversation_n which_o be_v all_o sort_n of_o good_a work_n especial_o work_v of_o mercy_n and_o bounty_n but_o both_o these_o come_v to_o the_o same_o thing_n as_o to_o our_o purpose_n for_o the_o one_o always_o follow_v the_o other_o wherever_o there_o be_v charity_n in_o the_o heart_n it_o must_v of_o necessity_n show_v itself_o in_o these_o kind_n of_o action_n
all_o but_o now_o have_v say_v this_o by_o way_n of_o caution_n to_o prevent_v all_o occasion_n that_o any_o may_v take_v from_o our_o so_o earnest_o press_v charity_n to_o undervalue_v and_o neglect_v other_o duty_n it_o can_v be_v deny_v on_o the_o other_o side_n that_o very_o great_a effect_n be_v by_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n ascribe_v to_o this_o virtue_n with_o respect_n to_o man_n salvation_n in_o the_o other_o world_n in_o the_o 6_o the_o of_o s._n luke_n 35._o our_o lord_n thus_o advise_v love_n say_v he_o your_o enemy_n give_v to_o he_o that_o ask_v do_v good_a and_o lend_v hope_v for_o nothing_o again_o so_o shall_v your_o reward_n be_v great_a and_o you_o shall_v be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o most_o high_a now_o sure_a to_o be_v entitle_v to_o great_a resurrection_n of_o the_o just_a 16._o again_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o unjust_a steward_n that_o provide_v so_o well_o for_o himself_o against_o a_o bad_a time_n out_o of_o his_o master_n good_n be_v whole_o design_v to_o this_o purpose_n and_o that_o the_o application_n of_o it_o sufficient_o show_v for_o our_o saviour_n have_v say_v that_o the_o lord_n of_o this_o steward_n commend_v he_o for_o his_o providence_n and_o care_n of_o himself_o he_o thus_o apply_v it_o to_o all_o his_o disciple_n 9_o wherefore_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o make_v you_o friend_n to_o yourselves_o of_o the_o when_o the_o time_n be_v such_o that_o it_o be_v reasonable_a so_o to_o do_v that_o they_o give_v alm_n for_o thereby_o they_o provide_v to_o themselves_o bag_n which_o wax_v not_o old_a a_o treasure_n in_o the_o heaven_n where_o no_o thief_n approach_v nor_o moth_n corrupt_v to_o these_o three_o text_n of_o our_o saviour_n i_o shall_v add_v three_o other_o of_o three_o of_o his_o apostle_n which_o speak_v just_a to_o the_o same_o effect_n and_o with_o they_o i_o shall_v conclude_v the_o first_o be_v that_o of_o s._n paul_n in_o his_o epistle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n where_o have_v speak_v most_o severe_a thing_n and_o denounce_v no_o less_o than_o hell_n fire_n against_o the_o false_a brethren_n among_o they_o yet_o thus_o he_o comfort_v the_o church_n to_o who_o he_o the_o reason_n he_o be_v thus_o persuade_v very_o this_o for_o god_n say_v he_o be_v not_o unrighteous_a 10._o to_o forget_v your_o work_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n which_o you_o have_v show_v to_o they_o and_o then_o that_o which_o follow_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n 11._o be_v very_o observable_a and_o we_o desire_v that_o every_o one_o of_o you_o do_v show_v the_o same_o diligence_n to_o wit_n in_o the_o practice_n of_o charity_n to_o the_o full_a assurance_n of_o hope_n unto_o the_o end_n if_o they_o will_v have_v their_o hope_n of_o a_o future_a life_n assure_v to_o they_o the_o way_n to_o do_v it_o be_v to_o persevere_v in_o their_o diligent_a attendance_n to_o work_n of_o mercy_n and_o kindness_n and_o charity_n etc._n the_o second_o passage_n be_v that_o of_o s._n john_n and_o that_o not_o only_o private_a one_o but_o public_a too_o and_o i_o think_v it_o no_o popery_n to_o affirm_v that_o charity_n will_v cover_v a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o other_o life_n also_o that_o be_v whoever_o be_v of_o a_o true_o charitable_a disposition_n and_o do_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a in_o his_o generation_n though_o he_o may_v have_v a_o great_a many_o infirmity_n also_o to_o increase_v their_o store_n no_o man_n be_v ever_o poor_a for_o what_o he_o give_v away_o in_o useful_a charity_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_n he_o thrive_v better_a for_o it_o god_n seldom_o fail_v in_o this_o world_n ample_o to_o repay_v what_o be_v thus_o lend_v to_o he_o beside_o the_o other_o blessing_n that_o accompany_v his_o store_n and_o go_v along_o with_o it_o to_o his_o child_n after_o he_o this_o i_o be_o sure_a be_v solemn_o promise_v and_o in_o the_o ordinary_a dispensation_n of_o providence_n we_o see_v it_o general_o make_v good_a whereas_o to_o the_o greedy_a and_o penurious_a man_n all_o thing_n fall_v out_o quite_o contrary_a he_o may_v have_v wealth_n but_o he_o have_v little_a comfort_n in_o it_o for_o a_o curse_n general_o attend_v it_o of_o which_o he_o feel_v the_o sad_a effect_n in_o a_o various_o miserable_a and_o vexatious_a life_n and_o often_o in_o either_o have_v none_o or_o a_o unfortunate_a posterity_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o thing_n that_o i_o mean_v to_o insist_v on_o this_o world_n last_v but_o for_o a_o while_n and_o it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n how_o we_o fare_v in_o it_o but_o we_o have_v soul_n that_o must_v live_v for_o ever_o if_o therefore_o man_n have_v any_o kindness_n for_o they_o if_o they_o mean_v not_o to_o be_v undo_v to_o all_o eternity_n it_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a they_o shall_v do_v good_a with_o what_o they_o have_v o_o that_o uncharitable_a rich_a man_n will_v think_v upon_o that_o woe_n that_o our_o saviour_n pronounce_v against_o they_o 6.24_o wo_n unto_o you_o that_o be_v rich_a for_o you_o have_v receive_v your_o consolation_n o_o that_o they_o will_v serious_o consider_v and_o often_o remember_v those_o word_n of_o abraham_n to_o the_o rich_a man_n in_o hell_n they_o and_o real_o make_v it_o easy_o without_o a_o hyperbole_n for_o a_o camel_n to_o go_v through_o the_o eye_n of_o a_o needle_n than_o for_o a_o rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n luke_n 18.25_o certain_a it_o be_v there_o be_v no_o one_o sin_n that_o can_v be_v name_v do_v more_o fatal_o exclude_v from_o salvation_n than_o this_o we_o be_v speak_v of_o we_o last_o day_n seem_v to_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o the_o other_o sin_n and_o crime_n of_o their_o life_n but_o only_o to_o censure_v they_o for_o this_o etc._n thus_o we_o find_v that_o when_o the_o king_n have_v gather_v all_o nation_n before_o he_o come_v to_o pronounce_v the_o sentence_n upon_o those_o on_o his_o left_a hand_n who_o be_v those_o that_o be_v doom_v to_o everlasting_a fire_n there_o be_v no_o mention_n make_v of_o their_o criminal_a action_n they_o be_v not_o condemn_v for_o fraud_n and_o oppression_n for_o unbelief_n and_o irreligion_n for_o lewdness_n and_o debauchery_n though_o any_o of_o these_o be_v enough_o to_o damn_v a_o man_n but_o mere_o for_o their_o not_o do_v good_a for_o their_o not_o relieve_v the_o necessitous_a and_o exercise_v other_o act_n of_o charity_n when_o it_o be_v in_o their_o power_n since_o now_o from_o these_o consideration_n it_o do_v appear_v how_o necessary_a how_o indispensable_a a_o duty_n it_o be_v to_o do_v good_a with_o what_o we_o have_v to_o be_v rich_a in_o good_a work_n to_o be_v ready_a to_o
