great_a thing_n as_o shall_v be_v show_v beneath_o rectify_v beneath_o in_o passion_n rectify_v he_o that_o esteem_v himself_o for_o aught_o else_o than_o for_o this_o free_a disposition_n of_o the_o over_o such_o from_o who_o they_o neither_o hope_v nor_o fear_v any_o thing_n in_o prosperity_n they_o be_v as_o much_o elevate_v as_o in_o adversity_n depress_v when_o as_o a_o generous_a free_a and_o virtuous_a soul_n be_v still_o one_o and_o the_o same_o another_o branch_n of_o estimation_n when_o we_o regard_v a_o object_n as_o able_a to_o do_v good_a or_o hurt_n be_v veneration_n and_o of_o contempt_n disdain_n the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o excite_v veneration_n be_v compound_v of_o that_o which_o excite_v admiration_n and_o fear_v beneath_o speak_v of_o those_o that_o excite_v disdain_n of_o those_o that_o excite_v security_n or_o boldness_n as_o well_o as_o admiration_n veneration_n be_v a_o inclination_n of_o the_o soul_n not_o only_o to_o esteem_v the_o object_n it_o reverence_v but_o also_o to_o submit_v to_o it_o with_o some_o kind_n of_o fear_n and_o to_o endeavour_v to_o make_v it_o become_v gracious_a to_o she_o disdain_n veneration_n and_o disdain_n our_o love_n and_o devotion_n be_v only_o to_o those_o from_o who_o we_o expect_v good_a our_o veneration_n to_o free_a cause_n only_o which_o we_o apprehend_v be_v able_a to_o do_v good_a or_o evil_n to_o we_o disdain_n be_v a_o inclination_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o contemn_v a_o free_a cause_n though_o it_o can_v do_v both_o good_a and_o evil_a yet_o esteem_v so_o far_o beneath_o he_o that_o he_o contrary_a be_v a_o emotion_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o incite_v the_o soul_n to_o will_v to_o be_v free_v and_o separate_v from_o object_n represent_v to_o be_v hurtful_a or_o evil_a in_o love_n the_o motion_n of_o the_o blood_n and_o spirit_n if_o not_o join_v with_o desire_n joy_n or_o sadness_n etc._n etc._n but_o simple_a and_o alone_a be_v even_o as_o also_o the_o pulse_n but_o great_a and_o strong_a than_o ordinary_a emit_v more_o heat_n and_o celeritate_v digestion_n and_o therefore_o be_v a_o healthy_a passion_n but_o in_o hatred_n the_o pulse_n be_v uneven_a more_o debile_a and_o quick_a cold_a instead_o of_o heat_n or_o mix_v with_o pungent_a heat_n in_o the_o breast_n sometime_o concoction_n impedit_v vomit_v excite_v and_o the_o humour_n become_v corrupt_v or_o at_o least_o vitiate_a and_o so_o be_v a_o very_a noxious_a and_o unhealthy_a passion_n this_o proceed_v from_o the_o tie_n that_o be_v between_o the_o soul_n &_o the_o body_n as_o when_o any_o corporeal_a action_n be_v join_v with_o a_o thought_n one_o still_o accompany_v the_o other_o as_o be_v apparent_a in_o such_o who_o have_v a_o aversion_n to_o some_o medicine_n they_o can_v think_v on_o it_o but_o the_o taste_n smell_v &c_n &c_n come_v also_o immediate_o into_o their_o thought_n for_o the_o blood_n or_o some_o good_a and_o delectable_a chime_n get_v into_o the_o heart_n and_o become_v a_o of_o the_o spirit_n ever_o since_o accompany_v the_o passion_n of_o love_n on_o the_o contrary_a in_o hatred_n some_o strange_a chime_v not_o proper_a to_o maintain_v the_o heat_n of_o the_o heart_n cause_v the_o stomach_n to_o eject_v it_o whence_o these_o motion_n accompany_v the_o passion_n of_o hatred_n concupiscence_n benevolence_n and_o concupiscence_n there_o be_v two_o effect_n of_o love_n benevolence_n and_o concupiscence_n the_o former_a be_v when_o we_o wish_v well_o to_o what_o we_o love_n the_o latter_a when_o we_o desire_v the_o thing_n love_v there_o be_v different_a passion_n that_o yet_o participate_v of_o love_n as_o the_o ambitious_a love_n glory_n the_o avaritious_a riches_n the_o amorous_a a_o woman_n the_o drunkard_n wine_n which_o though_o different_a yet_o participate_v of_o love_n they_o be_v alike_o devotion_n affection_n friendship_n and_o devotion_n however_o love_n be_v not_o always_o the_o same_o and_o alike_o for_o it_o admit_v of_o degree_n as_o when_o we_o esteem_v a_o object_n of_o love_n less_o than_o we_o esteem_v ourselves_o it_o may_v be_v term_v only_o a_o affection_n when_o we_o value_v it_o equal_a to_o ourselves_o it_o may_v be_v term_v friendship_n when_o more_o devotion_n and_o sometime_o we_o love_v mere_o for_o the_o possession_n of_o the_o object_n whereunto_o our_o passion_n relate_v and_o not_o the_o object_n itself_o for_o which_o we_o have_v only_o a_o desire_n mix_v with_o other_o particular_a passion_n as_o ambition_n avarice_n etc._n etc._n but_o the_o love_n a_o generous_a soul_n and_o a_o man_n of_o knowledge_n as_o it_o be_v clear_a they_o do_v must_v needs_o precede_v joy_n and_o sadness_n except_o when_o joy_n and_o sadness_n proceed_v from_o knowledge_n and_o when_o the_o thing_n this_o knowledge_n incline_v we_o to_o love_n be_v in_o themselves_o true_o good_a or_o to_o hate_n true_o evil_a love_n be_v then_o most_o excellent_a and_o transcendent_a for_o it_o join_v thing_n that_o
