want_v of_o scripture_n to_o prove_v what_o i_o intend_v but_o for_o that_o these_o scripture_n be_v use_v by_o other_o in_o the_o first_o sense_n and_o may_v well_o be_v use_v so_o allusive_o and_o for_o that_o i_o have_v no_o such_o way_n to_o restare_fw-la they_o to_o their_o true_a interpretation_n as_o first_o by_o allow_v they_o the_o accommodation_n of_o that_o other_o sense_n and_o then_o show_v that_o this_o latter_a be_v the_o more_o proper_a but_o here_o i_o must_v make_v a_o twofold_a distinction_n of_o fear_n viz._n in_o the_o kind_n and_o in_o the_o degree_n of_o it_o fear_n the_o first_o distinction_n of_o fear_n 1._o in_o the_o kind_n there_o be_v a_o lawful_a and_o acceptable_a yea_o necessary_a fear_n of_o god_n and_o there_o be_v a_o unlawful_a or_o at_o least_o unacceptable_a fear_n of_o god_n the_o first_o be_v that_o awe_n we_o be_v to_o have_v of_o the_o divine_a majesty_n as_o we_o be_v creature_n and_o with_o which_o we_o be_v command_v to_o work_v out_o our_o own_o salvation_n even_o with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a phil._n 2.22_o this_o signify_v no_o mor_o but_o the_o creature_n keep_v its_o due_a distance_n know_v its_o place_n and_o condition_n of_o a_o creature_n have_v a_o due_a sense_n of_o the_o weighty_a concernment_n and_o importance_n of_o that_o salvation_n which_o we_o be_v to_o work_v out_o consider_v the_o danger_n we_o escape_v and_o the_o prize_n we_o press_v forward_o unto_o these_o consideration_n make_v we_o great_o in_o earnest_n it_o be_v no_o trifle_a business_n we_o be_v about_o and_o therefore_o we_o do_v it_o and_o be_v to_o do_v it_o with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a and_o great_a circumspection_n so_o the_o apostle_n paul_n say_v he_o be_v conversant_a among_o the_o corinthian_n in_o fear_n and_o great_a tremble_a 1_o cor._n 2.3_o which_o say_v commentator_n may_v signify_v not_o only_o his_o fear_n from_o persecution_n but_o those_o which_o do_v arise_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o work_n of_o save_a soul_n this_o fear_n now_o be_v lawful_a and_o commendable_a and_o so_o far_o from_o be_v contrary_a to_o love_v as_o it_o may_v very_o well_o proceed_v from_o love_n love_v to_o ourselves_o when_o we_o be_v work_v out_o our_o salvation_n and_o love_v to_o other_o when_o we_o be_v help_v onward_o their_o salvation_n but_o then_o there_o be_v a_o slavish_a fear_n of_o god_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n which_o do_v not_o further_o but_o extreme_o hinder_v the_o work_n out_o of_o their_o salvation_n this_o fear_n we_o find_v in_o the_o slothful_a servant_n that_o never_o set_v upon_o improve_n his_o master_n talon_n but_o lay_v it_o up_o in_o a_o napkin_n and_o when_o his_o master_n call_v he_o to_o a_o account_n for_o his_o talon_n he_o tell_v his_o master_n plain_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n he_o never_o so_o much_o as_o endeavour_v to_o improve_v it_o for_o ifeared_a thou_o say_v he_o because_o thou_o be_v a_o austere_a man_n can_v not_o justify_v the_o second_o reason_n why_o work_n be_v take_v into_o the_o condition_n of_o justification_n be_v 2._o reason_n 2._o for_o that_o it_o be_v neither_o comely_a no_o nor_o possible_a for_o divine_a approbation_n which_o i_o have_v often_o affirm_v to_o be_v contain_v in_o justification_n to_o pass_v upon_o any_o man_n without_o they_o i_o put_v these_o two_o into_o one_o 1._o it_o be_v not_o comely_a what_o a_o strange_a thing_n will_v it_o be_v in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o man_n if_o the_o great_a and_o holy_a god_n shall_v own_v a_o company_n of_o person_n in_o the_o world_n for_o he_o for_o certain_o who_o he_o justify_v he_o will_v own_v for_o his_o that_o shall_v only_o be_v though_o they_o real_o be_v believer_n but_o never_o do_v any_o service_n for_o he_o neither_o plead_v for_o his_o honour_n when_o he_o be_v blaspheme_v nor_o own_o his_o servant_n when_o they_o be_v in_o reproach_n and_o distress_a not_o to_o mention_v their_o negative_a holiness_n which_o lie_v in_o avoid_v the_o corruption_n of_o the_o world_n without_o which_o negative_a holiness_n if_o god_n shall_v own_v they_o he_o will_v be_v think_v the_o patron_n of_o all_o vice_n etc._n etc._n but_o i_o dare_v not_o express_v the_o uncomely_a consequence_n that_o will_v follow_v now_o beside_o the_o impossibility_n that_o arise_v from_o this_o uncomliness_n there_o be_v also_o a_o impossibility_n that_o arise_v from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n i_o intend_v in_o this_o reason_n i_o say_v therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o god_n shall_v approve_v of_o any_o person_n as_o just_a or_o take_v he_o into_o his_o favour_n and_o delight_n all_o which_o the_o lord_n do_v in_o the_o great_a business_n of_o justification_n that_o be_v not_o a_o good_a and_o a_o righteous_a man_n god_n can_v justify_v the_o ungodly_a while_o he_o remain_v ungodly_a he_o can_v love_v he_o nor_o delight_n in_o he_o nor_o
