many_o of_o they_o be_v destroy_v and_o these_o affliction_n make_v they_o seek_v after_o and_o run_v to_o god_n for_o so_o the_o psalmist_n tell_v psal._n lxxviii_o 34._o when_o he_o slay_v they_o than_o they_o seek_v he_o and_o they_o return_v and_o inquire_v early_o after_o god_n and_o though_o the_o psalmist_n tell_v we_o that_o they_o do_v but_o flatter_v he_o with_o their_o mouth_n and_o lie_v unto_o he_o with_o their_o tongue_n and_o that_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o right_a with_o he_o neither_o be_v they_o steadfast_a in_o his_o covenant_n yet_o this_o run_v of_o they_o to_o he_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o affliction_n do_v so_o far_o prevail_v with_o god_n that_o he_o be_v full_a of_o compassion_n destroy_v they_o not_o but_o turn_v his_o anger_n away_o and_o do_v not_o stir_v up_o all_o his_o wrath._n and_o david_n himself_o frequent_o profess_v that_o god_n be_v his_o refuge_n in_o time_n of_o trouble_n whereto_o he_o do_v continual_o resort_v so_o that_o this_o be_v certain_o a_o great_a advantage_n that_o we_o gain_v by_o affliction_n that_o they_o drive_v we_o to_o god_n to_o who_o we_o fly_v for_o refuge_n and_o where_o we_o find_v security_n 7._o there_o be_v also_o this_o advantage_n in_o affliction_n that_o by_o mean_n of_o they_o we_o come_v to_o live_v in_o the_o daily_a exercise_n of_o all_o virtue_n which_o without_o affliction_n we_o can_v not_o do_v this_o st._n paul_n affirm_v rom._n v._n 3._o we_o glory_v in_o tribulation_n also_o know_v that_o tribulation_n work_v patience_n and_o patience_n experience_n and_o experience_n hope_v and_o hope_n make_v not_o ashamed_a this_o be_v the_o natural_a consequence_n of_o affliction_n for_o than_o we_o live_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n by_o believe_v god_n promise_v that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v together_o for_o our_o good_a and_o rely_v upon_o he_o for_o our_o deliverance_n we_o live_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o hope_n by_o a_o assure_a expectation_n of_o the_o reward_n promise_v to_o they_o that_o suffer_v and_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o charity_n by_o have_v our_o heart_n inflame_v with_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n who_o give_v himself_o for_o we_o whereby_o we_o be_v make_v willing_a to_o offer_v up_o ourselves_o a_o free-will-offering_a to_o he_o both_o in_o life_n and_o death_n our_o patience_n be_v exercise_v in_o suffer_v the_o will_n of_o god_n with_o quietness_n and_o resignation_n of_o soul_n and_o our_o humility_n by_o abase_v ourselves_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v shame_n for_o his_o sake_n 8._o another_o advantage_n that_o we_o reap_v by_o affliction_n which_o be_v the_o last_o i_o shall_v mention_v because_o i_o affect_v brevity_n be_v that_o when_o they_o have_v bring_v forth_o in_o we_o the_o peaceable_a fruit_n of_o righteousness_n our_o mouth_n and_o our_o heart_n too_o shall_v be_v fill_v with_o song_n of_o deliverance_n thus_o david_n rejoice_v in_o god_n psal._n lix_n 16._o i_o will_v sing_v of_o thy_o power_n yea_o i_o will_v sing_v aloud_o of_o thy_o mercy_n in_o the_o morning_n for_o thou_o have_v be_v my_o defence_n and_o refuge_n in_o the_o day_n of_o my_o trouble_n behalf_n which_o make_v they_o cry_v out_o who_o be_v like_a unto_o thou_o o_o lord_n among_o the_o god_n who_o be_v like_a unto_o thou_o glorious_a in_o holiness_n fearful_a in_o praise_n do_v wonder_n have_v king_n david_n come_v to_o the_o crown_n without_o meeting_n with_o those_o trouble_n that_o precede_v it_o he_o have_v not_o be_v so_o sensible_o affect_v with_o god_n mercy_n in_o deliver_v he_o as_o he_o be_v nor_o in_o all_o probability_n have_v write_v that_o excellent_a song_n of_o praise_n recite_v both_o in_o 2_o sam._n xxii_o and_o in_o psal._n xviii_o entitle_v a_o psalm_n of_o david_n the_o servant_n of_o the_o lord_n who_o speak_v unto_o the_o lord_n the_o word_n of_o this_o song_n in_o the_o day_n that_o the_o lord_n deliver_v he_o from_o the_o hand_n of_o all_o his_o enemy_n and_o from_o the_o hand_n of_o saul_n in_o which_o he_o first_o give_v a_o account_n of_o his_o great_a distress_n for_o say_v he_o the_o sorrow_n of_o death_n compass_v i_o and_o
