and_o often_o bring_v man_n to_o such_o extremity_n that_o they_o can_v hardly_o draw_v their_o breath_n and_o so_o consequent_o also_o the_o countenance_n be_v hereby_o make_v cloudy_a and_o sad_a and_o thus_o god_n speak_v here_o to_o we_o to_o persuade_v we_o to_o take_v heed_n of_o such_o sorrow_n as_o tender_a mother_n be_v wont_a to_o speak_v to_o their_o child_n tell_v they_o they_o will_v mar_v their_o face_n with_o cry_v verse_n 14._o the_o heart_n of_o he_o that_o have_v understanding_n seek_v knowledge_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v a_o man_n that_o have_v understanding_n seek_v as_o delightful_a to_o they_o as_o their_o food_n and_o indeed_o it_o nourish_v their_o folly_n in_o they_o verse_n 15._o all_o the_o day_n of_o the_o afflict_a be_v evil_a etc._n etc._n by_o the_o afflict_a here_o most_o expositor_n understand_v the_o man_n that_o be_v not_o content_v with_o his_o estate_n all_o who_o day_n must_v needs_o be_v evil_a that_o be_v grievous_a tedious_a &_o lie_v under_o any_o heavy_a affliction_n whether_o poverty_n or_o sickness_n etc._n etc._n or_o inward_a anguish_n and_o trouble_n of_o mind_n they_o scarce_o enjoy_v a_o comfortable_a hour_n which_o make_v their_o life_n bitter_a to_o they_o but_o he_o that_o be_v of_o a_o merry_a heart_n to_o wit_n especial_o if_o it_o proceed_v from_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n have_v a_o continual_a feast_n that_o be_v he_o have_v that_o which_o will_v cheer_v he_o up_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o affliction_n and_o sorrow_n and_o that_o will_v be_v as_o a_o feast_n to_o he_o when_o he_o perhaps_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o bread_n to_o eat_v verse_n 16._o better_a be_v a_o little_a with_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v of_o of_o lose_v what_o they_o have_v or_o their_o continual_a toll_n &_o vex_a care_n about_o the_o preserve_n &_o order_v and_o increase_a their_o estate_n or_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o terrou_n of_o conscience_n for_o their_o wickedness_n &_o particular_o for_o the_o unjust_a way_n whereby_o they_o have_v raise_v their_o estate_n and_o the_o clamour_n &_o outcry_n of_o those_o that_o have_v be_v clause_n a_o time_n to_o keep_v silence_n and_o a_o time_n to_o speak_v may_v very_o probable_o be_v take_v in_o the_o same_o sense_n because_o in_o time_n of_o joy_n man_n be_v wont_a to_o use_v great_a freedom_n of_o speech_n and_o in_o time_n of_o great_a sorrow_n to_o keep_v silence_n according_a to_o those_o passage_n lam._n 2.10_o the_o elder_n of_o the_o daughter_n of_o zion_n sit_v different_a and_o contrary_a event_n according_a as_o he_o have_v fore-decreed_a and_o whereas_o again_o it_o may_v be_v think_v that_o if_o all_o labour_n be_v unprofitable_a and_o that_o because_o endeavour_n and_o the_o various_a and_o contrary_a event_n of_o thing_n there_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o disorder_n and_o confusion_n in_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v do_v in_o the_o world_n at_o which_o man_n be_v apt_a to_o stumble_v and_o take_v offence_n yet_o this_o be_v because_o we_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o end_n that_o god_n propound_v to_o himself_o and_o be_v not_o able_a to_o put_v together_o all_o the_o piece_n of_o his_o providence_n nor_o to_o foresee_v the_o effect_n that_o he_o will_v at_o last_o produce_v and_o so_o can_v comprehend_v the_o wise_a contrivance_n of_o all_o his_o work_n for_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o if_o we_o once_o discover_v god_n end_n and_o how_o he_o bring_v about_o that_o which_o he_o determine_v whether_o in_o regard_n of_o judgement_n that_o he_o execute_v upon_o wicked_a man_n or_o the_o trial_n that_o he_o make_v of_o the_o faith_n and_o patience_n of_o his_o people_n or_o other_o such_o like_a holy_a design_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o every_o thing_n even_o these_o thing_n that_o seem_v so_o full_a of_o confusion_n be_v in_o their_o season_n admirable_o beautiful_a and_o do_v in_o the_o most_o exact_a and_o comely_a order_n and_o that_o as_o in_o the_o first_o creation_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o god_n make_v that_o be_v not_o very_o good_a gen_n 1.31_o so_o in_o the_o work_n of_o his_o providence_n in_o govern_v the_o world_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o god_n do_v but_o it_o be_v exceed_o beautiful_a in_o its_o season_n though_o thing_n seem_v to_o happen_v never_o sâ—_n unexpected_o and_o cross_o yet_o when_o the_o lord_n have_v perform_v his_o whole_a work_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v isa_n 10.12_o and_o that_o we_o come_v to_o compare_v one_o thing_n with_o another_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o god_n have_v order_v all_o thing_n for_o the_o best_a even_o to_o admiration_n as_o the_o beauty_n of_o picture_n and_o curious_a hang_n and_o so_o likewise_o of_o the_o body_n of_o man_n arise_v from_o the_o orderly_a mix_n of_o divers_a and_o contrary_a colour_n so_o do_v the_o beauty_n of_o god_n work_n of_o providence_n arise_v from_o his_o wise_a cause_v even_o of_o cross_n and_o contrary_a event_n to_o work_v
then_o they_o receive_v the_o reward_n of_o their_o impiety_n verse_n 4._o for_o to_o he_o that_o be_v join_v to_o all_o the_o live_n there_o be_v hope_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v as_o long_o as_o life_n last_v there_o be_v hope_n of_o his_o still_o enjoy_v his_o present_a comfort_n yea_o of_o improve_n his_o condition_n for_o the_o better_a both_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o spiritual_a and_o his_o outward_a estate_n at_o least_o some_o of_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o live_n he_o be_v sure_a to_o enjoy_v for_o a_o live_a dog_n be_v better_a than_o a_o dead_a lion_n that_o be_v the_o base_a and_o most_o contemptible_a person_n that_o be_v whilst_o he_o live_v be_v in_o a_o better_a condition_n than_o he_o that_o have_v be_v of_o great_a account_n when_o once_o he_o be_v lay_v in_o the_o dust_n to_o wit_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o the_o action_n and_o employment_n thereof_o and_o thus_o solomon_n set_v forth_o the_o different_a estate_n of_o the_o live_n and_o the_o dead_a thereby_o to_o make_v way_n to_o that_o follow_a exhortation_n vers_fw-la 7._o wherein_o again_o he_o persuade_v man_n to_o that_o forementioned_a remedy_n of_o the_o certain_a yea_o they_o find_v and_o feel_v it_o experimental_o in_o the_o decay_n of_o their_o body_n and_o the_o uncertainty_n of_o their_o health_n and_o consequent_o they_o may_v stir_v up_o themselves_o hereby_o to_o provide_v that_o they_o may_v both_o live_v comfort_o and_o die_v happy_o the_o knowledge_n of_o this_o be_v a_o advantage_n to_o make_v they_o take_v off_o their_o affection_n from_o the_o perish_a thing_n of_o this_o world_n to_o prepare_v themselves_o for_o death_n and_o by_o faith_n and_o repentance_n to_o make_v sure_a of_o life_n eternal_a and_o withal_o which_o i_o conceive_v be_v here_o chief_o intend_v to_o set_v themselves_o comfortable_o and_o thankful_o to_o enjoy_v present_a mercy_n which_o when_o death_n once_o come_v they_o can_v no_o long_o that_o may_v be_v in_o soul_n depart_v but_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o to_o man_n affection_n here_o to_o wit_n that_o when_o man_n be_v dead_a they_o mind_v no_o more_o the_o riches_n honour_n and_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n nor_o can_v any_o long_o enjoy_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v here_o below_o which_o be_v more_o full_o express_v in_o the_o follow_a word_n neither_o have_v they_o any_o more_o a_o portion_n for_o ever_o in_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v do_v under_o the_o sun_n and_o therefore_o if_o we_o expect_v any_o comfort_n in_o the_o thing_n
