and_o their_o tender_a conscience_n wound_v by_o a_o unnecessary_a and_o uncharitable_a use_n of_o christian_a liberty_n little_a conscience_n be_v make_v of_o scandalize_a their_o holy_a religion_n by_o go_v to_o law_n before_o infidel_n nay_o by_o wrong_v and_o defraud_v one_o another_o discipline_n lay_v neglect_v and_o there_o be_v none_o of_o that_o mourning_n which_o shall_v have_v be_v warrant_v any_o member_n in_o a_o separation_n from_o this_o church_n be_v more_o than_o enough_o to_o fire_v the_o holy_a zeal_n of_o all_o the_o member_n of_o it_o and_o to_o engage_v they_o all_o in_o the_o most_o vigorous_a endeavour_n for_o a_o speedy_a reformation_n in_o it_o what_o then_o be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o this_o why_o true_o all_o that_o can_v be_v do_v provide_v still_o for_o the_o safety_n and_o preservation_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v of_o every_o part_n all_o that_o can_v be_v to_o heal_v and_o cleanse_v and_o edify_v but_o nothing_o to_o destroy_v let_v every_o member_n of_o the_o body_n according_a to_o its_o station_n and_o office_n therein_o contribute_v what_o possible_o it_o can_v to_o the_o preservation_n of_o its_o life_n and_o restore_v of_o its_o health_n but_o let_v no_o member_n be_v cut_v off_o so_o long_o as_o the_o body_n may_v be_v preserve_v without_o such_o mutilation_n and_o there_o be_v hope_n remain_v that_o the_o corrupt_a member_n may_v be_v cure_v by_o gentle_a mean_n much_o less_o let_v any_o member_n tear_v itself_o off_o so_o long_o as_o by_o continue_v in_o the_o body_n it_o may_v have_v life_n and_o nourishment_n divide_v be_v a_o very_a untoward_a way_n of_o heal_a and_o i_o think_v shall_v never_o be_v use_v but_o when_o the_o case_n be_v otherwise_o desperate_a indeed_o the_o body_n may_v sometime_o be_v save_v by_o the_o loss_n of_o a_o corrupt_a member_n but_o it_o will_v be_v very_o hard_a if_o possible_a to_o keep_v a_o member_n from_o die_v that_o separate_v itself_o from_o a_o live_a body_n though_o disease_v st._n paul_n take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n to_o correct_v and_o reform_v the_o many_o error_n and_o disorder_n among_o these_o christian_n of_o corinth_n but_o whatever_o he_o do_v or_o order_n to_o be_v do_v for_o a_o reformation_n he_o seem_v to_o have_v his_o eye_n continual_o fix_v upon_o the_o peace_n and_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n consider_v well_o how_o unhopeful_a a_o thing_n such_o a_o reformation_n be_v in_o a_o house_n that_o be_v divide_v in_o itself_o and_o therefore_o he_o go_v to_o work_v like_o a_o skilful_a reformer_n he_o will_v have_v the_o old_a leaven_n purge_v out_o but_o so_o that_o they_o may_v still_o continue_v one_o though_o a_o new_a lump_n c._n 5._o v._n 7._o he_o will_v have_v the_o house_n repair_v without_o pull_v it_o down_o or_o take_v it_o in_o piece_n stone_n from_o stone_n so_o that_o the_o foundation_n which_o he_o as_o a_o wise_a master-builder_n have_v lay_v continue_v he_o think_v it_o better_a to_o leave_v the_o wood_n hay_o and_o stubble_n which_o other_o have_v build_v upon_o it_o to_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o fire_n when_o god_n shall_v send_v it_o than_o to_o take_v the_o build_n asunder_o c._n 3._o v._n 10_o etc._n etc._n he_o will_v have_v the_o body_n keep_v sound_a yet_o so_o if_o possible_a that_o it_o may_v also_o remain_v entire_a that_o so_o it_o may_v still_o grow_v up_o into_o he_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v the_o head_n even_o christ_n from_o who_o the_o whole_a body_n fit_o join_v together_o and_o compact_v by_o that_o which_o every_o joint_n supply_v according_a to_o the_o
effectual_a work_n in_o every_o part_n make_v increase_v of_o the_o body_n unto_o the_o edify_n of_o itself_o in_o love_n eph._n four_o 15._o therefore_o in_o the_o first_o place_n he_o most_o earnest_o exhort_v the_o corinthian_n to_o unity_n and_o warn_v they_o to_o beware_v of_o division_n c._n 1._o v._n 10._o now_o i_o beseech_v you_o brethren_n by_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n let_v we_o have_v plain_a reason_n or_o scripture_n without_o all_o this_o flourish_a of_o word_n o_o how_o hard_o a_o task_n have_v the_o minister_n of_o christ_n in_o a_o corinth_n in_o a_o populous_a and_o wealthy_a town_n where_o much_o people_n be_v there_o be_v always_o much_o variety_n of_o temper_n and_o humour_n and_o where_o be_v much_o ease_n and_o leisure_n and_o plenty_n of_o all_o thing_n there_o will_v be_v also_o much_o pride_n and_o wantonness_n and_o curiosity_n and_o what_o paul_n or_o apollo_n be_v sufficient_a to_o deal_v with_o all_o these_o every_o one_o humour_n or_o fancy_n be_v his_o idol_n and_o if_o god_n himself_o will_v not_o minister_v to_o it_o he_o be_v offend_v every_o one_o will_v limit_v god_n in_o his_o own_o work_n to_o such_o instrument_n as_o he_o find_v himself_o most_o affect_v with_o not_o consider_v what_o he_o be_v here_o tell_v that_o though_o paul_n himself_o plant_v and_o apollo_n water_n yet_o neither_o be_v he_o that_o plant_v any_o thing_n neither_o he_o that_o water_v but_o god_n that_o give_v the_o increase_n well_o then_o if_o we_o believe_v st._n paul_n the_o whole_a virtue_n and_o efficacy_n of_o man_n ministry_n in_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o sinner_n be_v from_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n neither_o paul_n plant_n nor_o apollos_n water_v nor_o all_o the_o unwearied_a endeavour_n of_o the_o most_o accomplish_a preacher_n can_v make_v we_o good_a christian_n and_o bring_v we_o to_o heaven_n without_o the_o special_a grace_n of_o god_n this_o be_v it_o that_o i_o will_v at_o present_a earnest_o commend_v to_o your_o most_o serious_a thought_n it_o be_v indeed_o a_o very_a plain_a truth_n and_o stand_v not_o in_o need_n of_o a_o elaborate_a proof_n faculty_n of_o expression_n and_o elocution_n as_o that_o they_o may_v be_v understand_v by_o those_o who_o they_o be_v to_o instruct_v and_o that_o they_o and_o their_o hearer_n be_v not_o barbarian_n to_o each_o other_o these_o thing_n suppose_v because_o i_o know_v not_o how_o he_o shall_v be_v account_v a_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o want_v they_o i_o be_o now_o to_o show_v 1._o what_o every_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o do_v and_o it_o be_v very_o plain_a that_o such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v qualify_v as_o abovesaid_a may_v both_o plant_v minister_n of_o christ_n may_v and_o ought_v catechise_v and_o instruct_v the_o ignorant_a and_o exhort_v the_o know_n strengthen_v the_o weak_a and_o establish_v the_o waver_a comfort_v the_o afflict_a encourage_v the_o timorous_a and_o lift_v up_o the_o deject_a awake_v the_o sleepy_a spur_v on_o the_o lazy_a and_o warn_v the_o confident_a rebuke_v the_o wicked_a correct_v the_o erroneous_a and_o direct_v the_o doubtful_a terrify_v the_o presumptuous_a and_o reprove_v the_o scorner_n they_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o feed_v the_o flock_n of_o god_n and_o to_o give_v to_o
