cover_n of_o sin_n three_o what_o sort_n of_o sin_n will_v be_v cover_v by_o charity_n and_o under_o what_o limitation_n after_o i_o shall_v have_v give_v a_o competent_a explication_n of_o the_o proposition_n in_o the_o resolution_n of_o these_o question_n i_o shall_v confirm_v the_o general_n doctrine_n from_o other_o text_n of_o scripture_n with_o some_o allegation_n of_o reason_n and_o then_o answer_v some_o objection_n like_a to_o be_v make_v against_o that_o interpretation_n of_o the_o text_n which_o i_o shall_v pitch_v upon_o and_o against_o the_o general_n doctrine_n thereby_o assert_v chap_n ii_o §_o 1._o i_o be_o to_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o question_n viz._n who_o sin_n they_o be_v which_o will_v be_v cover_v by_o charity_n and_o here_o i_o find_v interpreter_n differ_v some_o understance_v the_o sin_n of_o other_o to_o who_o the_o charity_n be_v extend_v which_o be_v the_o sense_n accept_v by_o most_o protestant_n and_o some_o pontifician_n and_o some_o multitude_n of_o sin_n both_o in_o the_o charitable_a person_n as_o shall_v be_v afterward_o confirm_v and_o in_o other_o man_n to_o who_o it_o be_v exercise_v and_o so_o both_o sense_n be_v but_o distinct_a verification_n of_o the_o same_o word_n take_v in_o the_o great_a amplitude_n of_o signification_n and_o contain_v in_o each_o sense_n a_o strong_a motive_n to_o enforce_v the_o precede_a exhortation_n above_o all_o thing_n have_v fervent_a charity_n for_o etc._n etc._n wherefore_o although_o i_o do_v in_o my_o own_o judgement_n prefer_v the_o second_o sense_n as_o most_o special_o intend_v by_o the_o apostle_n and_o that_o be_v the_o main_a argument_n and_o design_n of_o my_o discourse_n yet_o i_o shall_v not_o whole_o neglect_v the_o other_o sense_n import_v a_o special_a truth_n as_o i_o doubt_v not_o to_o prove_v past_o all_o doubt_n from_o other_o text_n afford_v a_o motive_n to_o the_o enforcement_n of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n so_o much_o more_o strong_a and_o effectual_a than_o the_o other_o sense_n as_o the_o cover_n of_o a_o multitude_n of_o a_o man_n own_o fin_n be_v a_o great_a benefit_n to_o he_o than_o the_o cover_n of_o any_o multitude_n of_o other_o man_n sin_n can_v be_v and_o therefore_o the_o hope_n of_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v most_o prevalent_a with_o any_o man_n that_o have_v not_o more_o charity_n for_o his_o neighbour_n than_o or_o act_n of_o faith_n consider_v as_o real_o distinct_a from_o other_o christian_a virtue_n or_o act_n be_v effectual_a or_o available_a to_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n than_o charity_n be_v or_o may_v be_v so_o in_o as_o much_o as_o that_o be_v one_o of_o the_o most_o excellent_a of_o christian_a virtue_n most_o agreeable_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n and_o consequent_o most_o please_a to_o he_o so_o that_o if_o that_o be_v not_o available_a to_o this_o end_n nothing_o else_o beside_o faith_n can_v be_v so_o this_o proposition_n be_v grant_v i_o argue_v as_o follow_v 1._o argument_n if_o it_o be_v certain_a from_o scripture_n and_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o believe_v that_o nothing_o which_o can_v be_v do_v by_o we_o beside_o such_o a_o faith_n as_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v real_o distinct_a though_o not_o separate_v from_o all_o good_a work_n can_v be_v of_o any_o efficacy_n towards_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n than_o ought_v nothing_o else_o to_o be_v do_v by_o we_o towards_o that_o end_n because_o every_o such_o other_o act_n do_v to_o this_o end_n will_v by_o this_o supposition_n be_v perfect_o vain_a and_o unreasonable_a and_o not_o so_o only_o but_o also_o contrary_a to_o our_o oblige_a belief_n and_o then_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n that_o be_v a_o act_n distinct_a from_o faith_n will_v be_v not_o only_o needless_a and_o
