order_n to_o he_o so_o that_o a_o small_a fail_v in_o any_o of_o these_o be_v more_o hurtful_a to_o the_o profession_n than_o a_o great_a fault_n in_o any_o other_o kind_n so_o that_o we_o must_v forcible_o conclude_v that_o because_o all_o the_o common_a rule_n of_o christianity_n be_v more_o obligatory_a unto_o minister_n towards_o one_o another_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o their_o call_n then_o unto_o common_a professor_n that_o therefore_o the_o chief_a and_o most_o fundamental_a rule_n of_o the_o holy_a profession_n which_o concern_v love_n and_o unity_n communion_n and_o correspondency_n be_v more_o bind_v towards_o they_o chief_o in_o the_o work_n of_o their_o ministerial_a administration_n then_o towards_o any_o other_o and_o consequent_o that_o the_o neglect_n of_o the_o least_o of_o these_o duty_n in_o any_o of_o they_o be_v a_o great_a guilt_n and_o less_o excusable_a then_o in_o any_o other_o the_o commission_n of_o a_o gross_a misdemenour_n a_o little_a moat_n in_o the_o eye_n will_v trouble_v the_o whole_a body_n more_o than_o a_o great_a handful_n of_o dirt_n and_o dust_n cast_v upon_o any_o other_o part_n of_o the_o face_n and_o the_o least_o prick_n that_o may_v be_v in_o the_o heart_n or_o in_o the_o pia_fw-la mater_fw-la of_o the_o brain_n as_o physician_n say_v will_v kill_v a_o man_n infallible_o but_o a_o great_a wound_n in_o the_o flesh_n nay_o a_o stab_n through_o the_o whole_a body_n may_v be_v cure_v a_o thorn_n in_o a_o small_a joint_n will_v endanger_v a_o gangrene_n to_o the_o whole_a body_n whereas_o a_o great_a imposthume_n in_o a_o of_o disaffection_n in_o one_o minister_n against_o another_o or_o breach_n of_o unity_n in_o the_o least_o duty_n of_o their_o charge_n may_v prove_v infinite_o more_o hurtful_a to_o the_o whole_a church_n of_o god_n then_o great_a and_o gross_a hostility_n in_o common_a professor_n for_o matter_n of_o outward_a concernment_n now_o among_o all_o the_o fault_n and_o default_n of_o minister_n in_o their_o charge_n that_o of_o the_o want_n of_o mutual_a love_n and_o of_o care_n to_o maintain_v the_o unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n together_o with_o a_o delight_n to_o stand_v at_o a_o distance_n by_o themselves_o be_v to_o i_o one_o of_o the_o great_a because_o it_o do_v direct_o cross_v the_o chief_a end_n of_o their_o ministerial_a function_n duty_n of_o holy_a communion_n can_v be_v maintain_v nor_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n bring_v to_o any_o visible_a perfection_n but_o rather_o visible_o dissolve_v thus_o then_o upon_o this_o consideration_n it_o be_v a_o undeniable_a scripturall_a truth_n that_o for_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o their_o ministerial_a charge_n nothing_o be_v more_o conscionable_a nothing_o more_o commendable_a nothing_o more_o profitable_a and_o nothing_o more_o suitable_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o perfect_a of_o the_o saint_n then_o that_o they_o shall_v maintain_v a_o brotherly_a communion_n and_o correspondency_n one_o with_o another_o and_o such_o as_o neglect_v it_o walk_v not_o worthy_a of_o the_o call_n wherewith_o they_o be_v between_o we_o and_o he_o in_o judgement_n and_o in_o the_o way_n of_o act_v about_o these_o thing_n by_o the_o term_n of_o unity_n and_o forbearance_n we_o understand_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o determine_v the_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n of_o a_o christian_a to_o the_o profession_n and_o practice_n of_o these_o duty_n as_o he_o owe_v they_o unto_o christ_n and_o his_o member_n as_o then_o the_o profession_n and_o practice_n of_o unity_n be_v ground_v upon_o the_o law_n of_o brotherhood_n according_a to_o that_o of_o abraham_n unto_o lot_n 13.8_o gen._n 13.8_o let_v there_o be_v through_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n the_o chief_a act_n thereof_o be_v four_o the_o first_o be_v of_o professor_n as_o they_o stand_v single_a by_o themselves_o in_o reference_n to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n in_o public_a the_o second_o be_v of_o professor_n as_o they_o stand_v unite_v unto_o a_o congregation_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o visible_a constitution_n and_o government_n thereof_o the_o three_o be_v of_o several_a congregation_n in_o reference_n to_o their_o mutual_a association_n the_o four_o be_v of_o the_o officer_n and_o ruler_n of_o these_o several_a congregation_n in_o reference_n to_o their_o interest_n in_o each_o other_o and_o the_o joint_a
suffer_v any_o circumstantial_a difference_n of_o opinion_n or_o practice_n to_o break_v their_o association_n or_o hinder_v their_o ordinary_o appoint_a meeting_n and_o conference_n second_o upon_o some_o rule_n and_o order_n which_o in_o like_a manner_n every_o one_o shall_v assent_v unto_o free_o and_o express_o so_o far_o as_o he_o do_v find_v himself_o convict_v of_o the_o justice_n and_o equity_n thereof_o the_o substance_n of_o which_o order_n may_v be_v this_o that_o in_o their_o conference_n confusion_n shall_v be_v avoid_v that_o a_o equal_a and_o orderly_a freedom_n of_o speech_n disagree_v resolution_n and_o mistake_v one_o another_o meaning_n therein_o for_o this_o cause_n some_o mean_n of_o correspondency_n between_o distant_a association_n be_v to_o be_v agree_v upon_o for_o the_o communication_n of_o matter_n belong_v to_o the_o advancement_n of_o truth_n in_o love_n between_o they_o hitherto_o we_o have_v look_v upon_o the_o first_o head_n wherein_o there_o be_v a_o agreement_n in_o the_o rule_n by_o which_o the_o association_n be_v to_o be_v frame_v for_o mutual_a edification_n now_o follow_v the_o matter_n of_o agreement_n belong_v to_o the_o second_o head_n which_o be_v the_o use_n of_o their_o association_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o themselves_o and_o of_o their_o flock_n from_o partake_v in_o other_o man_n sin_n of_o which_o i_o shall_v set_v down_o almost_o word_n by_o word_n that_o which_o i_o find_v grant_v by_o mr._n burrough_n in_o his_o ironicum_fw-la or_o heart_n division_n pag._n 43._o which_o i_o conceive_v the_o brethren_n of_o the_o other_o side_n will_v full_o assent_v unto_o and_o aught_o to_o lay_v as_o a_o sufficient_a ground_n of_o associate_a in_o a_o brotherly_a way_n his_o word_n be_v these_o 1_o they_o viz._n the_o dissent_v brethren_n acknowledge_v that_o synod_n of_o other_o minister_n and_o elder_n about_o they_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o the_o help_a of_o the_o church_n against_o error_n schism_n and_o scandal_n 2_o that_o these_o synod_n may_v by_o the_o power_n they_o have_v from_o christ_n admonish_v man_n or_o church_n in_o his_o name_n when_o they_o see_v evil_n continue_v in_o or_o grow_v upon_o the_o church_n and_o their_o admonition_n carry_v with_o they_o the_o authority_n of_o jesus_n christ_n 3_o as_o there_o shall_v because_o they_o may_v declare_v man_n or_o church_n to_o be_v subverter_n of_o the_o faith_n or_o otherwise_o according_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o offence_n to_o shame_v they_o before_o all_o the_o church_n about_o they_o 4_o work_n of_o brotherly_a preservation_n of_o each_o other_o from_o the_o guilt_n of_o other_o man_n sin_n thus_o than_o we_o see_v that_o the_o term_n of_o our_o brotherly_a unity_n be_v full_a and_o satisfactory_a in_o all_o these_o respect_n and_o if_o notwithstanding_o all_o this_o we_o be_v divide_v in_o our_o way_n and_o in_o our_o affection_n unwilling_a to_o practice_v any_o thing_n joint_o which_o be_v suitable_a to_o these_o acknowledge_a principle_n be_v we_o not_o guilty_a before_o god_n and_o man_n of_o the_o neglect_n of_o a_o fundamental_a duty_n in_o christianity_n and_o that_o inexcusable_o sure_o we_o will_v be_v find_v so_o if_o we_o set_v not_o ourselves_o in_o another_o way_n then_o hitherto_o we_o have_v walk_v in_o one_o towards_o another_o chap._n vii_o concern_v the_o term_n of_o forbearance_n that_o therein_o be_v and_o may_v be_v find_v a_o agreement_n have_v show_v how_o full_a and_o satisfactory_a the_o unity_n be_v whereunto_o we_o have_v attain_v and_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v profess_o acknowledge_v and_o put_v in_o practice_n it_o remain_v now_o that_o we_o speak_v also_o of_o mutual_a forbearance_n in_o that_o whereunto_o we_o have_v not_o yet_o attain_v for_o if_o it_o be_v make_v apparent_a that_o we_o be_v not_o only_o thus_o far_o agree_v but_o that_o we_o have_v also_o the_o same_o sense_n of_o the_o term_n that_o be_v of_o the_o principle_n and_o rule_n whereby_o a_o forbearance_n may_v be_v settle_v in_o that_o wherein_o we_o be_v not_o yet_o agree_v then_o i_o can_v see_v what_o in_o conscience_n or_o reason_n shall_v keep_v we_o still_o at_o this_o distance_n but_o i_o be_o confident_a it_o may_v be_v make_v undeniable_o apparent_a that_o we_o have_v the_o same_o sense_n of_o the_o term_n that_o be_v of_o the_o principle_n rule_n and_o condition_n whereby_o a_o forbearance_n may_v be_v settle_v among_o we_o therefore_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o conscience_n or_o reason_n that_o can_v keep_v we_o at_o this_o distance_n now_o if_o the_o question_n be_v what_o then_o the_o cause_n be_v that_o keep_v we_o from_o join_v in_o a_o forbearance_n and_o what_o the_o difficulty_n be_v to_o practice_v that_o wherein_o we_o be_v of_o one_o mind_n my_o answer_n be_v that_o i_o be_o very_o willing_a to_o confess_v my_o ignorance_n of_o these_o cause_n and_o difficulty_n rather_o than_o to_o reflect_v upon_o the_o jealousy_n upon_o the_o design_n upon_o the_o passion_n and_o distemper_n of_o either_o side_n and_o to_o lay_v open_a the_o uncharitable_a fail_n and_o the_o unfriendly_a proceed_n of_o both_o side_n against_o each_o other_o i_o shall_v only_o say_v that_o the_o chief_a difficulty_n concern_v the_o term_n of_o settle_v a_o christian_a forbearance_n among_o we_o in_o my_o opinion_n have_v be_v this_o that_o this_o matter_n have_v never_o be_v prosecute_v in_o that_o way_n of_o simplicity_n which_o become_v the_o gospel_n nor_o upon_o the_o term_n wherein_o either_o there_o be_v undeniable_o or_o there_o may_v be_v find_v infallible_o a_o full_a and_o satisfactory_a agreement_n and_o whether_o yea_o or_o no_o any_o course_n will_v be_v take_v to_o prosecute_v it_o otherwise_o hereafter_o i_o know_v not_o but_o i_o shall_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n endeavour_v to_o acquit_v my_o conscience_n by_o show_v my_o sense_n of_o the_o principle_n and_o rule_n thereof_o whereunto_o i_o be_o persuade_v none_o will_v be_v dissenter_n who_o do_v lay_v to_o heart_n without_o prejudice_n their_o duty_n in_o the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n chap._n viii_o concern_v the_o principle_n of_o mutual_a toleration_n wherein_o there_o be_v a_o full_a agreement_n there_o be_v two_o main_a principle_n of_o a_o toleration_n whereof_o both_o side_n have_v the_o same_o sense_n to_o the_o full_a the_o first_o be_v concern_v the_o necessity_n the_o second_o concern_v the_o limit_n and_o bound_n of_o a_o toleration_n among_o christian_n concern_v the_o necessity_n of_o some_o forbearance_n among_o brethren_n in_o christianity_n all_o will_v undeniable_o acknowledge_v these_o two_o proposition_n first_o that_o god_n have_v command_v his_o child_n and_o servant_n both_o to_o bear_v one_o another_o burden_n and_o to_o bear_v with_o one_o another_o infirmity_n and_o to_o forbear_v one_o another_o in_o love_n as_o appeareth_z in_o these_o place_n of_o scripture_n gal._n 6.1_o 2._o ephes_n 4.2_o colos_n 3.12_o 13._o and_o 1_o thess_n 5.14_o rom._n 14.1_o second_o that_o this_o duty_n be_v not_o only_o necessary_a necessitate_v praecepti_fw-la because_o god_n have_v command_v it_o but_o it_o be_v also_o necessary_a necessitate_v medii_fw-la as_o a_o mean_n of_o mutual_a edification_n which_o can_v possible_o be_v advance_v without_o the_o observation_n thereof_o and_o the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v evident_a because_o in_o many_o case_n of_o humane_a fail_n and_o in_o some_o of_o different_a opinion_n and_o practice_n if_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o forbearance_n at_o all_o debate_n will_v be_v sharp_a and_o endless_a
party_n to_o a_o more_o perfect_a unity_n then_o as_o yet_o they_o have_v attain_v unto_o be_v to_o find_v out_o and_o settle_v rule_n of_o mutual_a condescension_n second_o the_o mean_n to_o make_v the_o path_n plain_a and_o easy_a to_o maintain_v and_o walk_v in_o the_o unity_n which_o shall_v be_v settle_v be_v to_z remove_z move_z by_o common_a consent_n and_o upon_o conscionable_a motive_n all_o the_o cause_n of_o disaffection_n and_o of_o breach_n for_o if_o both_o side_n can_v only_o yield_v and_o stoop_v to_o embrace_v each_o other_o in_o love_n but_o also_o remove_v all_o that_o which_o may_v occasion_v the_o dissolve_v of_o that_o embracement_n we_o may_v be_v sure_o that_o peace_n and_o unity_n will_v be_v settle_v without_o interruption_n therefore_o in_o hope_n that_o either_o now_o or_o hereafter_o this_o may_v be_v lay_v to_o heart_n and_o follow_v to_o produce_v a_o necessary_a toleration_n i_o shall_v offer_v my_o thought_n of_o these_o two_o mean_n chap._n x._o of_o the_o rule_n of_o condescension_n how_o they_o may_v be_v find_v out_o we_o have_v former_o see_v that_o some_o toleration_n among_o christian_n be_v necessary_a if_o so_o then_o undoubted_o some_o condescension_n also_o towards_o one_o another_o because_o without_o some_o yield_a it_o be_v not_o imaginable_a that_o any_o mutual_a forbearance_n can_v be_v settle_v or_o transact_v among_o party_n that_o be_v at_o variance_n and_o although_o this_o may_v suffice_v to_o satisfy_v the_o scruple_n of_o some_o who_o perhaps_o will_v boil_v at_o the_o matter_n of_o condescension_n as_o prejudicial_a to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o holy_a profession_n yet_o i_o shall_v add_v a_o word_n to_o show_v the_o lawfulness_n of_o such_o a_o course_n as_o be_v a_o duty_n recommend_v unto_o we_o by_o god_n and_o necessary_a for_o edification_n the_o apostle_n rom._n 15.1_o 2._o say_v that_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o please_v ourselves_o but_o that_o every_o one_o of_o we_o shall_v please_v his_o neighbour_n for_o his_o good_a to_o edification_n now_o in_o this_o case_n every_o one_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v strong_a and_o the_o neighbour_n who_o he_o ought_v to_o please_v be_v by_o the_o apostle_n suppose_v to_o be_v weak_a therefore_o we_o be_v all_o bind_v to_o yield_v unto_o each_o other_o as_o suppose_v other_o to_o be_v weak_a that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o edify_v each_o other_o and_o to_o press_v this_o home_n as_o a_o duty_n to_o the_o conscience_n of_o all_o he_o do_v give_v we_o christ_n example_n as_o a_o pattern_n thereof_o in_o this_o particular_a that_o he_o do_v not_o seek_v to_o please_v himself_o but_o condescend_v even_o to_o bear_v reproach_n that_o we_o may_v be_v edify_v by_o that_o which_o be_v write_v of_o he_o vers_n 3._o and_o 4._o and_o then_o to_o make_v a_o application_n of_o this_o unto_o the_o end_n for_o which_o he_o do_v prescribe_v it_o as_o a_o duty_n he_o first_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o we_o and_o second_o exhort_v we_o to_o the_o imitation_n of_o christ_n example_n his_o prayer_n be_v that_o god_n will_v grant_v we_o to_o be_v like_o mind_a one_o towards_o another_o according_a to_o christ_n jesus_n that_o we_o may_v glorify_v god_n with_o one_o mind_n and_o mouth_n where_o he_o intimate_v two_o thing_n which_o be_v in_o this_o matter_n very_o considerable_a first_o that_o except_o we_o have_v this_o grace_n to_o be_v so_o mind_v unto_o each_o other_o as_o christ_n be_v to_o we_o we_o can_v be_v at_o unity_n among_o ourselves_o second_o that_o except_o we_o be_v unite_v with_o one_o mind_n and_o one_o mouth_n in_o our_o profession_n of_o christ_n god_n can_v be_v glorify_v by_o we_o vers_fw-la 5_o &_o 6._o then_o his_o exhortation_n be_v a_o consequence_n infert_v upon_o these_o premise_n thus_o ver_fw-la to_o this_o purpose_n deliver_v concern_v christ_n phil._n 2.4_o 5_o 6_o 7._o and_o 1_o pet._n 2.21_o 22_o 23._o but_o to_o press_v further_o the_o point_n which_o in_o this_o duty_n be_v to_o be_v heed_v let_v we_o consider_v the_o precept_n give_v by_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 12._o 16._o and_o his_o own_o practice_n which_o he_o set_v before_o we_o elsewhere_o to_o be_v follow_v as_o a_o example_n of_o that_o rule_n the_o precept_n be_v this_o be_v of_o the_o same_o mind_n one_o towards_o another_o mind_v not_o high_a thing_n but_o condescend_v to_o man_n of_o low_a estate_n or_o to_o mean_a thing_n be_v not_o wise_a in_o your_o own_o conceit_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v it_o be_v your_o duty_n to_o be_v like_o mind_a towards_o each_o other_o in_o love_n and_o that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v take_v off_o from_o perform_v this_o take_v heed_n to_o your_o thought_n that_o you_o neither_o affect_v high_a matter_n wherein_o natural_o man_n use_v to_o please_v themselves_o nor_o that_o you_o be_v in_o love_n with_o your_o own_o wisdom_n but_o study_n rather_o to_o make_v your_o mind_n pliable_a and_o bring_v yourselves_o to_o condescend_v to_o man_n and_o matter_n that_o be_v mean_a and_o low_a for_o except_v you_o all_o resolve_n upon_o this_o you_o can_v never_o be_v of_o the_o same_o mind_n one_o towards_o another_o so_o than_o we_o see_v that_o some_o condescension_n be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o whole_o requisite_a to_o maintain_v love_n and_o unity_n and_o resist_v pride_n and_o self-love_n whence_o strife_n and_o confusion_n do_v proceed_v answerable_a unto_o this_o rule_n be_v the_o apostle_n own_o practice_n mention_v 1_o cor._n 9_o for_o our_o imitation_n for_o there_o from_o the_o first_o verse_n till_o the_o 19_o he_o show_v that_o although_o he_o have_v a_o full_a right_a to_o take_v maintenance_n from_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n for_o his_o service_n do_v to_o they_o yet_o he_o will_v not_o do_v it_o but_o condescend_v rather_o for_o therein_o be_v imitate_v by_o other_o which_o be_v this_o that_o although_o he_o be_v free_a from_o all_o man_n yet_o he_o make_v himself_o a_o servant_n to_o all_o that_o he_o may_v gain_v the_o more_o verse_n 19_o to_o the_o jew_n he_o become_v as_o a_o jew_n to_o they_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n as_o under_o the_o law_n verse_n 20._o to_o they_o that_o be_v without_o law_n as_o without_o law_n though_o he_o be_v not_o without_o law_n to_o god_n but_o under_o the_o law_n to_o christ_n verse_n 21._o to_o the_o weak_a he_o become_v as_o weak_a and_o he_o make_v himself_o by_o way_n of_o condescension_n all_o thing_n unto_o all_o man_n that_o he_o may_v by_o all_o mean_n save_o some_o verse_n 22._o and_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o exercise_v himself_o in_o this_o duty_n be_v not_o only_o for_o the_o good_a of_o other_o but_o for_o his_o own_o good_a also_o in_o three_o thing_n first_o that_o he_o may_v partake_v of_o the_o gospel_n with_o every_o one_o in_o every_o condition_n verse_n 23._o second_o that_o he_o may_v keep_v himself_o in_o a_o fit_a temper_n of_o spirit_n so_o to_o run_v in_o his_o call_n as_o to_o receive_v the_o prize_n and_o so_o to_o fight_v the_o edification_n of_o their_o hearer_n for_o without_o this_o profession_n that_o manifestation_n will_v never_o in_o reason_n be_v find_v a_o truth_n fit_a to_o convict_v the_o world_n which_o otherwise_o it_o may_v be_v because_o as_o it_o be_v just_a that_o when_o witness_n do_v not_o agree_v their_o testimony_n shall_v not_o be_v receive_v so_o it_o be_v equitable_a that_o when_o they_o do_v agree_v their_o testimony_n shall_v not_o be_v reject_v and_o if_o by_o this_o only_a default_n they_o make_v their_o testimony_n without_o effect_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o to_o establish_v the_o truth_n and_o not_o to_o discredit_v it_o to_o uphold_v the_o ministry_n and_o not_o to_o make_v it_o contemptible_a to_o build_v up_o the_o church_n and_o not_o to_o ruin_v they_o and_o to_o confirm_v the_o faith_n of_o the_o professor_n and_o not_o to_o stagger_v they_o the_o profession_n and_o practice_n of_o brotherly_a unity_n among_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v absolute_o necessary_a for_o all_o may_v see_v that_o be_v not_o blind_a and_o senseless_a that_o original_o nothing_o but_o the_o neglect_n of_o this_o duty_n have_v deprive_v we_o of_o all_o our_o hope_n and_o blessing_n and_o bring_v we_o under_o the_o yoke_n of_o all_o these_o misery_n upon_o all_o which_o this_o consequence_n do_v manifest_o follow_v that_o the_o only_a way_n to_o preserve_v holy_a and_o heavenly_a these_o man_n seem_v to_o be_v in_o the_o way_n wherein_o they_o agree_v with_o their_o brethren_n the_o more_o destructive_a and_o pernicious_a be_v the_o consequence_n of_o will_v for_o small_a matter_n of_o private_a concernment_n be_v sometime_o set_v upon_o thought_n of_o revenge_n take_v up_o destructive_a resolution_n and_o thereby_o forget_v the_o main_a end_n of_o their_o profession_n for_o we_o see_v all_o this_o in_o the_o apostle_n and_o by_o christ_n reproof_n of_o they_o and_o his_o reason_n take_v from_o the_o end_n of_o his_o ministry_n whereunto_o all_o his_o and_o their_o action_n be_v to_o be_v subordinate_a it_o appear_v that_o they_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o what_o they_o have_v forget_v now_o as_o it_o be_v with_o james_n and_o john_n in_o this_o case_n so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o godly_a man_n in_o like_a case_n for_o in_o these_o time_n of_o controversy_n wherein_o division_n be_v beightn_v to_o the_o utmost_a it_o do_v often_o fall_v out_o that_o man_n be_v of_o different_a party_n for_o far_o lesser_a cause_n than_o jew_n and_o samaritan_n be_v divide_v yet_o look_v upon_o one_o another_o with_o no_o less_o animositie_n than_o do_v the_o jew_n upon_o the_o samaritan_n and_o the_o samaritan_n upon_o the_o jew_n that_o be_v with_o so_o much_o prejudice_n that_o if_o they_o find_v a_o man_n but_o look_v towards_o that_o party_n to_o which_o they_o have_v set_v themselves_o in_o opposition_n as_o the_o samaritan_n find_v christ_n face_n set_v towards_o jerusalem_n they_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o deal_v with_o he_o as_o the_o samaritan_n deal_v with_o christ_n and_o his_o disciple_n refuse_v he_o civility_n use_v he_o inhumane_o and_o perhaps_o offer_v injury_n both_o in_o deed_n and_o word_n these_o injury_n will_v sometime_o be_v take_v as_o reflect_v upon_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o profession_n sometime_o upon_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o innocence_n of_o the_o party_n which_o we_o favour_v and_o if_o withal_o as_o ofttimes_o it_o fall_v out_o some_o private_a concernment_n of_o our_o own_o be_v mix_v with_o the_o public_a interest_n that_o will_v main_o heighten_v the_o sense_n of_o those_o injury_n and_o transport_v we_o unto_o some_o excess_n of_o zeal_n for_o when_o any_o degree_n of_o passion_n for_o self_n concernment_n do_v meet_v in_o our_o affection_n with_o any_o object_n of_o true_a zeal_n and_o a_o ground_n of_o public_a interest_n to_o mix_v withal_o and_o raise_v itself_o upon_o than_o it_o become_v a_o mighty_a one_o and_o a_o giantlike_a passion_n as_o when_o in_o the_o first_o world_n 4._o gen_n 6._o 2_o 3_o 4._o the_o son_n of_o god_n come_v in_o into_o the_o fair_a of_o the_o daughter_n of_o man_n and_o those_o bear_v child_n unto_o they_o they_o be_v mighty_a one_o and_o man_n of_o renown_n so_o it_o fall_v out_o here_o that_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n mighty_a resolution_n and_o purpose_n of_o high_a revenge_n be_v beget_v upon_o such_o occasion_n and_o when_o satan_n do_v find_v we_o in_o any_o such_o distemper_n he_o have_v a_o fit_a opportunity_n to_o in_o fuse_v his_o poison_n into_o cur_n aim_v to_o cause_v we_o forget_v the_o end_n of_o our_o spiritual_a call_n which_o be_v not_o to_o destroy_v but_o to_o save_v the_o life_n of_o man_n by_o rectify_v they_o and_o build_v they_o up_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o meekness_n and_o of_o love_n with_o all_o long-suffering_a and_o forbearance_n thus_o we_o may_v see_v by_o daily_a experience_n that_o when_o humane_a party_n be_v form_v for_o in_o christianity_n there_o be_v none_o and_o when_o inhuman_a injury_n be_v mutual_o offer_v about_o religious_a concernment_n it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o prevent_v or_o to_o rectify_v the_o distemper_n which_o arise_v from_o thence_o but_o yet_o we_o must_v say_v in_o this_o case_n what_o christ_n faith_n in_o another_o 19.26_o matth._n 19.26_o with_o man_n this_o be_v impossible_a but_o with_o god_n all_o thing_n be_v possible_a therefore_o i_o believe_v that_o god_n be_v able_a both_o to_o prevent_v and_o rectify_v such_o excess_n of_o passion_n two_o way_n distemper_n the_o remedy_n of_o these_o distemper_n first_o by_o waken_n our_o conscience_n effectual_o towards_o himself_o in_o mind_v we_o of_o the_o end_n and_o way_n of_o our_o ministerial_a function_n as_o it_o god_n and_o by_o walk_v in_o the_o same_o way_n wherein_o he_o be_v go_v before_o we_o to_o glorify_v his_o father_n in_o his_o ministry_n second_o by_o set_v a_o spiritual_a edge_n upon_o our_o affection_n towards_o man_n not_o to_o consider_v they_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n as_o they_o be_v or_o may_v be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n our_o brethren_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o walk_v in_o all_o thing_n towards_o they_o by_o the_o law_n of_o christian_a brotherhood_n and_o make_v the_o positive_a rule_n thereof_o bear_v the_o only_a sway_n in_o all_o our_o resolution_n for_o by_o these_o principle_n and_o by_o these_o alone_a we_o shall_v be_v enable_v both_o to_o free_v ourselves_o from_o the_o trouble_n which_o otherwise_o will_v fall_v upon_o we_o for_o small_a and_o inconsiderable_a matter_n of_o difference_n in_o judgement_n and_o practice_n and_o also_o to_o cause_v all_o outward_a concernment_n fall_v flat_a before_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n will_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o peace_n and_o brotherhood_n but_o without_o these_o we_o shall_v be_v find_v void_a of_o all_o strength_n to_o do_v any_o such_o thing_n and_o every_o little_a trifle_n will_v make_v we_o fall_v from_o our_o own_o stead_n fastness_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o because_o these_o principle_n and_o duty_n have_v be_v and_o be_v disrespect_a in_o our_o work_n of_o reformation_n among_o those_o that_o undeniable_o be_v brethren_n therefore_o the_o scandal_n which_o be_v give_v to_o the_o weak_a and_o observe_v by_o the_o wicked_a to_o discredit_v our_o proceed_n be_v multiply_v to_o the_o sad_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o all_o that_o be_v godly_a nor_o be_v there_o any_o other_o way_n imaginable_a as_o i_o conceive_v relate_v to_o conscience_n fit_a to_o remove_v they_o and_o to_o heal_v the_o breach_n which_o follow_v thereupon_o but_o this_o to_o manifest_v unto_o those_o that_o be_v faithful_a to_o their_o principle_n and_o conscionable_a in_o the_o ministry_n that_o the_o relation_n wherein_o god_n have_v set_v they_o one_o towards_o another_o be_v a_o brotherly_a unity_n which_o in_o itself_o be_v so_o full_a and_o fatisfactory_a and_o by_o his_o commandment_n be_v so_o strict_a and_o obligatory_a that_o whosoever_o do_v not_o take_v up_o the_o profession_n thereof_o and_o endeavour_v to_o observe_v the_o duty_n belong_v thereunto_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v find_v a_o transgressor_n but_o even_o inexcusable_a and_o unworthy_a of_o the_o name_n of_o a_o christian_n for_o this_o cause_n i_o have_v lay_v to_o heart_n this_o opinion_n to_o settle_v the_o profession_n and_o practice_n of_o a_o christian_a brotherhood_n between_o they_o offer_v this_o that_o if_o any_o shall_v make_v a_o scruple_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o that_o which_o shall_v be_v affert_v concern_v this_o matter_n in_o brief_a that_o a_o large_a deduction_n and_o demonstration_n in_o due_a time_n shall_v be_v make_v thereof_o to_o the_o end_n that_o such_o who_o heighten_v matter_n of_o strife_n among_o brethren_n that_o multiply_v controversy_n unadvised_o for_o small_a matter_n and_o that_o
a_o faculty_n of_o life_n and_o a_o right_a through_o that_o faculty_n to_o act_v in_o and_o by_o itself_o the_o work_n of_o its_o own_o office_n and_o have_v immediate_o from_o the_o head_n its_o direction_n what_o to_o do_v and_o be_v not_o under_o the_o command_n of_o any_o particular_a fellow-member_n yet_o in_o the_o use_n of_o this_o faculty_n and_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o this_o right_n every_o member_n be_v direct_v by_o the_o head_n to_o subordinate_a itself_o to_o the_o service_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o to_o depend_v upon_o the_o unity_n thereof_o and_o not_o to_o stand_v or_o act_v by_o itself_o for_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o the_o eye_n can_v say_v to_o the_o hand_n i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o nor_o the_o head_n though_o head_n and_o over_o all_o the_o rest_n to_o the_o foot_n though_o but_o foot_n and_o under_o all_o the_o rest_n i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o you_o but_o even_o the_o weak_a and_o the_o most_o unseemly_a member_n be_v the_o most_o necessary_a and_o every_o one_o of_o they_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o their_o duty_n towards_o the_o whole_a for_o none_o of_o they_o be_v allow_v to_o do_v any_o thing_n for_o themselves_o alone_o be_v make_v to_o depend_v upon_o each_o other_o if_o this_o doctrine_n be_v lay_v to_o heart_n and_o apply_v practical_o without_o dispute_v to_o particular_a matter_n now_o in_o dispute_n and_o if_o our_o brain_n be_v less_o and_o our_o conscience_n more_o exercise_v in_o look_v herein_o to_o that_o which_o be_v without_o all_o dispute_n the_o know_a will_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o be_v trouble_v with_o the_o nicety_n though_o we_o may_v confer_v about_o they_o of_o the_o proper_a seat_n of_o right_a to_o power_n and_o government_n and_o with_o the_o national_a debate_n of_o the_o priority_n of_o the_o universal_a and_o of_o the_o right_n and_o privilege_n of_o the_o particular_a church_n upon_o which_o rock_n our_o affection_n be_v now_o split_v all_o the_o duty_n of_o necessary_a communion_n correspondency_n and_o concurrence_n be_v neglect_v among_o we_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o know_a excellency_n commendablenesse_n and_o usefulnes_n thereof_o therefore_o my_o purpose_n be_v to_o set_v before_o the_o conscience_n of_o those_o that_o seek_v life_n the_o loveliness_n of_o this_o duty_n whereunto_o we_o have_v already_o attain_v if_o so_o be_v puff_n we_o up_o to_o appear_v somewhat_o more_o than_o other_o in_o all_o our_o undertake_n sect._n ii_o of_o the_o excellency_n of_o unity_n and_o of_o the_o fountain_n thereof_o charity_n the_o i_o shall_v make_v the_o matter_n of_o this_o section_n to_o represent_v only_o the_o head_n thereof_o in_o brief_a unto_o such_o as_o be_v conscionable_a that_o by_o themselves_o they_o may_v lay_v will_v be_v able_a to_o approve_v himself_o in_o the_o beauty_n of_o holiness_n either_o a_o true_a christian_a by_o the_o common_a profession_n or_o a_o upright_a follower_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n in_o the_o ministry_n or_o a_o faithful_a servant_n to_o the_o trust_v commit_v unto_o he_o in_o his_o charge_n but_o in_o the_o day_n of_o account_n must_v expect_v to_o receive_v not_o
