comfort_v but_o by_o the_o death_n of_o the_o sensual_a part_n and_o a_o separation_n from_o all_o inordinate_a affection_n to_o the_o creature_n i_o shall_v therefore_o rather_o desire_v a_o state_n of_o desolation_n and_o fidelity_n therein_o than_o all_o the_o delicious_a gust_n of_o prayer_n though_o so_o elevate_v as_o to_o bring_v the_o soul_n to_o ravish_a ecstasy_n chap._n ii_o of_o the_o different_a sort_n of_o mental_a prayer_n i_o find_v a_o comparison_n which_o explicate_v very_o well_o the_o difference_n of_o ordinary_a prayer_n and_o prayer_n passive_n a_o man_n may_v see_v meditation_n and_o be_v content_a with_o god_n gift_n whatever_o they_o be_v with_o peace_n and_o humility_n when_o god_n withdraw_v his_o passive_a light_n it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o strive_v to_o retain_v it_o we_o must_v acquiess_v in_o his_o pleasure_n till_o it_o return_v again_o as_o he_o think_v good_a if_o god_n please_v to_o leave_v we_o in_o darkness_n without_o sun_n or_o candle_n it_o be_v a_o opportunity_n to_o practice_n humility_n and_o patience_n for_o we_o must_v desire_v nothing_o but_o god_n alone_o and_o in_o what_o manner_n he_o think_v best_o let_v a_o soul_n be_v pleasant_a to_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n than_o perdition_n it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a punishment_n to_o suffer_v the_o continual_a lash_n of_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n a_o unspeakable_a torment_n to_o have_v our_o heart_n always_o terrify_v with_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n hang_v over_o our_o head_n with_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n which_o be_v uncertain_a and_o soul_n and_o dispose_v she_o to_o a_o perfect_a union_n with_o god_n and_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o christian_a virtue_n i_o know_v no_o better_a mean_n to_o be_v humble_v in_o our_o own_o true_o say_v they_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n all_o creature_n be_v oblige_v to_o serve_v their_o creator_n it_o be_v their_o duty_n and_o not_o to_o do_v it_o make_v they_o guilty_a but_o this_o bring_v no_o profit_n to_o god_n who_o be_v no_o less_o nor_o more_o happy_a in_o himself_o thereby_o but_o only_o from_o hence_o it_o proceed_v that_o he_o bestow_v on_o his_o servant_n great_a and_o
