come_v only_o in_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v channel_n and_o conduit-pipe_n therefore_o if_o thou_o will_v have_v this_o grace_n and_o be_v strengthen_v and_o increase_v therein_o even_o as_o thou_o will_v have_v thy_o soul_n thus_o dignify_v use_v careful_o all_o the_o mean_n as_o the_o word_n which_o be_v the_o sceptre_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n submit_v thy_o soul_n to_o it_o if_o thou_o will_v have_v a_o excellent_a spirit_n such_o a_o one_o as_o joshua_n have_v pray_v to_o god_n for_o it_o and_o take_v heed_n of_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n by_o continue_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o any_o know_a sin_n which_o be_v as_o water_v that_o quench_v the_o fire_n but_o rather_o cherish_v thy_o faith_n and_o put_v fuel_n unto_o it_o by_o constant_a &_o consionable_a hear_n read_v prayer_n meditation_n receive_v the_o sacrament_n holy_a conference_n and_o watch_v over_o thy_o heart_n for_o if_o thou_o put_v fuel_n to_o thy_o faith_n and_o keep_v away_o that_o which_o may_v quench_v it_o thou_o shall_v clear_o see_v this_o bless_a truth_n and_o find_v the_o power_n of_o faith_n in_o this_o that_o have_v be_v say_v therefore_o as_o thou_o will_v have_v this_o confidence_n and_o comfort_n in_o thy_o heart_n and_o soul_n use_v the_o mean_n for_o it_o the_o diligent_a hand_n become_v rich_a in_o god_n ordinary_a providence_n and_o so_o may_v thou_o in_o this_o grace_n unevenness_n but_o it_o be_v the_o unevenness_n of_o degree_n i_o say_v not_o the_o unevenness_n of_o kind_n this_o i_o add_v that_o as_o we_o shall_v exclude_v those_o that_o have_v no_o grace_n notwithstanding_o they_o have_v some_o good_a intention_n towards_o god_n so_o we_o must_v be_v careful_a that_o we_o discourage_v not_o those_o that_o have_v some_o fail_v and_o some_o expression_n of_o their_o corruption_n yet_o the_o bent_n of_o their_o soul_n be_v set_v aright_o this_o then_o be_v one_o thing_n wherein_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o evident_a power_n of_o grace_n when_o it_o birth_n there_o be_v no_o strength_n to_o bring_v forth_o man_n be_v not_o able_a to_o perform_v they_o now_o grace_n wheresoever_o it_o be_v have_v so_o much_o strength_n as_o not_o only_o to_o beget_v good_a motion_n but_o it_o be_v powerful_a and_o effectual_a to_o bring_v they_o forth_o into_o act_n grace_n be_v a_o effectual_a midwife_n to_o bring_v purpose_n and_o conception_n to_o performance_n enable_v we_o to_o do_v they_o therefore_o by_o that_o you_o may_v try_v it_o whether_o grace_n strengthen_v you_o to_o performance_n and_o practice_n that_o which_o you_o purpose_v add_v to_o knowledge_n temperance_n it_o may_v be_v a_o man_n may_v know_v well_o enough_o what_o to_o do_v but_o he_o be_v draw_v aside_o with_o some_o pleasure_n and_o lust_n for_o it_o be_v usual_a for_o a_o man_n to_o know_v but_o because_o he_o be_v bias_v the_o wrong_a way_n with_o some_o inordinate_a affection_n he_o perform_v not_o that_o 〈◊〉_d know_v therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n now_o be_v the_o season_n to_o add_v temperance_n to_o knowledge_n to_o abstain_v from_o those_o thing_n and_o beside_o as_o pleasure_n be_v a_o mean_n on_o the_o one_o side_n to_o keep_v he_o from_o the_o something_o that_o be_v pleasant_a to_o he_o the_o physician_n delay_n and_o defer_v he_o will_v not_o for_o the_o present_a hearken_v to_o his_o request_n at_o length_n he_o do_v it_o why_o be_v it_o not_o because_o the_o physician_n be_v alter_v but_o because_o there_o be_v a_o alteration_n in_o the_o patient_a he_o be_v now_o purge_v and_o vomit_v his_o body_n be_v cleanse_v and_o so_o make_v fit_a to_o receive_v the_o cordial_a therefore_o the_o physician_n yield_v to_o his_o request_n there_o be_v some_o suitablenesse_n now_o between_o he_o and_o the_o physic_n which_o he_o require_v there_o be_v no_o alteration_n in_o the_o physician_n but_o in_o the_o patient_a so_o when_o we_o seek_v any_o thing_n at_o god_n hand_n we_o do_v not_o cause_v he_o to_o alter_v his_o mind_n but_o contend_v with_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o use_v argument_n to_o persuade_v he_o those_o argument_n persuade_v ourselves_o to_o repentance_n to_o faith_n to_o more_o obedience_n and_o willingness_n
