experimental_a part_n of_o a_o christian_n for_o sure_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v not_o take_v pleasure_n in_o this_o or_o that_o opinion_n which_o man_n hold_v in_o religion_n but_o as_o it_o serve_v they_o in_o bring_v they_o near_o to_o he_o and_o cause_v they_o to_o prize_v he_o his_o grace_n and_o presence_n more_o and_o work_v in_o they_o a_o great_a love_n of_o his_o likeness_n and_o long_v after_o the_o power_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o conform_v they_o to_o it_o nor_o be_v the_o other_o extreme_a opinion_n touch_v man_n being_n mere_a passive_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o grace_n and_o that_o grace_n always_o work_v its_o effect_n in_o man_n in_o a_o irresistible_a way_n any_o better_a friend_n i_o conceive_v to_o the_o thrive_a way_n of_o depend_v upon_o god_n for_o more_o grace_n in_o a_o due_a use_n of_o what_o they_o have_v alreay_n receive_v for_o as_o the_o opinion_n of_o man_n have_v more_o power_n than_o they_o have_v or_o that_o that_o power_n which_o they_o have_v be_v but_o if_o any_o man_n will_v approve_v himself_o a_o wise_a man_n indeed_o endue_v with_o the_o christian_n knowledge_n of_o the_o right_a kind_n the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o it_o must_v be_v by_o show_v out_o of_o a_o good_a conversation_n his_o work_n with_o meekness_n of_o wisdom_n v._o 13._o again_o chap._n 1.26_o he_o have_v likewise_o encounter_v that_o vain-confidence_n that_o be_v build_v upon_o a_o form_n of_o knowledge_n faith_n and_o profession_n without_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o it_o say_v if_o any_o man_n among_o you_o seem_v to_o be_v religious_a and_o bridle_v not_o his_o tongue_n but_o deceive_v his_o own_o heart_n this_o man_n religion_n be_v vain_a man_n that_o shall_v give_v way_n to_o the_o flesh_n though_o but_o in_o one_o thing_n as_o for_o instance_n a_o licentious_a liberty_n to_o the_o tongue_n not_o endeavour_v by_o watchfulness_n heed_n and_o circumspection_n to_o conform_v to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o lord_n which_o forbid_v not_o only_o lie_v revile_v backbiting_a slander_v corrupt_a and_o unclean_a communication_n but_o also_o foolish_a talk_n and_o jest_v yea_o every_o idle_a word_n how_o religious_a soever_o they_o may_v otherwise_o seem_v to_o themselves_o upon_o account_n of_o their_o formal_a knowledge_n and_o faith_n of_o external_a devotion_n to_o the_o ordinance_n yet_o the_o apostle_n testify_v as_o from_o the_o lord_n that_o such_o do_v but_o deceive_v their_o own_o heart_n befool_v themselves_o with_o a_o vain_a confidence_n of_o be_v religious_a man_n and_o of_o be_v accept_v with_o god_n as_o such_o and_o that_o such_o man_n religion_n be_v vain_a that_o be_v as_o to_o the_o end_n for_o which_o the_o true_a religion_n serve_v not_o as_o if_o all_o their_o religion_n be_v make_v up_o of_o vain_a notion_n but_o though_o they_o have_v never_o so_o sound_a a_o knowledge_n and_o right_a belief_n of_o many_o excellent_a gospel-truth_n and_o though_o they_o add_v thereto_o the_o do_v of_o many_o thing_n yea_o how_o seem_o religious_a soever_o they_o be_v upon_o what_o account_n soever_o yet_o the_o want_n but_o of_o this_o one_o thing_n a_o care_n to_o bridle_v the_o tongue_n will_v render_v all_o a_o man_n religion_n and_o all_o his_o confidence_n of_o salvation_n build_v thereupon_o but_o vain_a &_o unprofitable_a touch_v the_o end_n of_o religion_n the_o end_n of_o faith_n the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o sensual_a and_o carnal_a christian_n who_o live_v in_o such_o time_n and_o place_n as_o we_o now_o do_v in_o which_o man_n may_v believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o public_o own_o their_o faith_n especial_o if_o it_o put_v they_o upon_o no_o extraordinary_a strain_n of_o self-denial_n without_o run_v any_o hazard_n of_o persecution_n but_o shall_v rather_o expose_v themselves_o to_o suffer_v in_o case_n they_o shall_v not_o own_o the_o faith_n which_o be_v the_o religion_n of_o the_o country_n and_o in_o such_o place_n faith_n such_o as_o it_o be_v be_v my_o desire_n after_o their_o salvation_n exceed_o incline_v i_o to_o hope_v better_a thing_n concern_v these_o man_n of_o who_o i_o speak_v if_o i_o have_v but_o any_o scriptural_a ground_n to_o
