a_o strong_a and_o inordinate_a desire_n they_o corrupt_v and_o poison_v it_o further_o if_o with_o a_o hart_n well_o order_v and_o dispose_v they_o better_a it_o and_o further_o it_o in_o grace_n and_o godliness_n but_o now_o further_o concern_v spiritual_a thing_n we_o must_v understand_v that_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v ask_v in_o word_n alone_o but_o we_o must_v bring_v before_o god_n the_o fervent_a desire_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o entreat_v they_o as_o thing_n that_o will_v indeed_o most_o content_a us._n truth_n it_o be_v that_o ease_n and_o pleasure_n and_o credit_n will_v best_o please_v our_o nature_n but_o we_o must_v cross_v out_o flesh_n lest_o our_o petition_n be_v find_v carnal_a and_o so_o be_v reject_v by_o the_o lord_n &_o far_o we_o must_v strive_v to_o have_v this_o witness_n both_o from_o god_n and_o from_o our_o own_o soul_n that_o if_o we_o may_v obtain_v what_o we_o will_v the_o desire_n of_o our_o soul_n be_v to_o have_v the_o favour_n of_o as_o absurd_a as_o if_o a_o man_n that_o have_v his_o arm_n or_o his_o leg_n break_v shall_v say_v oh_o if_o i_o have_v a_o suit_n of_o cloth_n of_o gold_n or_o a_o pair_n of_o silk_n stocking_n or_o my_o chamber_n hang_v with_o velvet_n i_o shall_v feel_v no_o pain_n every_o man_n will_v think_v such_o a_o one_o out_o of_o his_o wit_n because_o his_o pain_n be_v within_o his_o body_n which_o those_o outward_a thing_n can_v remove_v so_o it_o be_v with_o every_o strong_a affection_n and_o unmastred_a desire_n they_o be_v corrupt_a humour_n cleave_v unto_o the_o soul_n and_o therefore_o let_v the_o party_n be_v shift_v hither_o and_o thither_o and_o have_v their_o estate_n mend_v and_o their_o reputation_n better_v yet_o if_o they_o be_v not_o heal_v within_o they_o be_v never_o the_o near_o to_o any_o sound_a contentment_n quest_n affection_n how_o to_o master_v strong_a affection_n but_o how_o shall_v we_o attain_v to_o the_o master_v of_o these_o boisterous_a affection_n answer_n first_o we_o must_v mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o flesh_n by_o the_o spirit_n the_o best_a have_v flesh_n in_o they_o but_o they_o must_v be_v ever_o knock_v of_o it_o down_o now_o than_o we_o mortify_v the_o flesh_n by_o 8._o rom._n 8._o the_o spirit_n when_o we_o bring_v spiritual_a reason_n against_o the_o lust_n thereof_o and_o seek_v to_o quench_v the_o flame_n thereof_o by_o pour_v water_n upon_o it_o and_o take_v away_o the_o fuel_n that_o may_v maintain_v it_o a_o man_n may_v have_v persuasion_n from_o his_o friend_n but_o those_o will_v not_o kill_v his_o carnal_a and_o be_v distemper_v within_o he_o must_v needs_o show_v his_o distemper_n without_o therefore_o the_o more_o god_n love_v we_o the_o more_o he_o will_v cross_v we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o set_v our_o heart_n on_o lie_a vanity_n for_o he_o know_v that_o if_o we_o have_v they_o in_o that_o manner_n and_o measure_n as_o we_o desire_v they_o will_v turn_v to_o our_o own_o and_o other_o exceed_v great_a hurt_n and_o disadvantage_n for_o the_o more_o we_o desire_v any_o earthly_a thing_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v abuse_v it_o as_o the_o more_o we_o desire_v any_o heavenly_a thing_n the_o
better_a we_o shall_v use_v it_o therefore_o be_v it_o righteous_a with_o god_n to_o cross_v we_o in_o our_o 1_o gen._n 30._o 1_o affection_n as_o he_o do_v rahel_n she_o must_v needs_o have_v child_n in_o all_o the_o haste_n or_o else_o she_o will_v die_v in_o a_o passion_n alas_o she_o be_v in_o hard_a case_n to_o die_v and_o in_o ill_a case_n to_o have_v child_n for_o at_o that_o time_n she_o partaker_n of_o his_o blessing_n soon_o he_o can_v afford_v they_o present_a payment_n but_o he_o well_o consider_v that_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o flesh_n much_o affect_v it_o will_v much_o abuse_v isaac_n pray_v for_o a_o son_n twenty_o year_n at_o length_n when_o 26_o gen._n 25._o 20._o 26_o he_o have_v get_v the_o victory_n of_o himself_o and_o be_v content_a to_o wait_v as_o long_o more_o than_o spiritual_a and_o the_o health_n of_o the_o body_n more_o than_o the_o health_n of_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v just_a we_o shall_v have_v penury_n and_o not_o plenty_n disease_v and_o not_o healthful_a body_n whereas_o if_o we_o can_v bring_v our_o will_n to_o be_v subject_a unto_o god_n it_o shall_v not_o be_v say_v to_o we_o you_o lust_n and_o have_v not_o but_o the_o lord_n will_v
