exhortation_n for_o paul_n see_v that_o there_o be_v some_o that_o do_v so_o to_o wit_n that_o name_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n well_o as_o to_z word_n but_o do_v not_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n some_o such_o he_o also_o find_v among_o they_o at_o corinth_n which_o make_v he_o say_v awake_v to_o righteousness_n and_o sin_v not_o 15.34_o he_o find_v such_o at_o ephesus_n and_o cry_v out_o to_o they_o most_o earnest_o say_v awake_v thou_o that_o sleep_v 15_o and_o arise_v from_o the_o dead_a for_o albeit_o they_o be_v professor_n of_o christ_n yet_o they_o live_v too_o much_o like_o those_o that_o be_v dead_a in_o trespass_n and_o sin_n this_o he_o also_o find_v among_o the_o hebrew_n wherefore_o he_o say_v to_o they_o let_v we_o lay_v aside_o every_o weight_n 3._o and_o the_o sin_n that_o do_v so_o easy_o beset_v we_o and_o let_v we_o run_v with_o patience_n the_o race_n that_o be_v set_v before_o we_o these_o professor_n be_v easy_o beset_v with_o sin_n yea_o it_o do_v hang_v upon_o they_o as_o weight_n to_o hinder_v they_o from_o make_v of_o that_o proffesion_n of_o christ_n who_o name_n they_o name_v so_o beautiful_a as_o do_v become_v both_o he_o and_o they_o in_o my_o discourse_n upon_o this_o subject_n i_o must_v endeavour_v to_o show_v you_o two_o thing_n first_o what_o paul_n mean_v when_o he_o say_v depart_v from_o iniquity_n second_o why_o some_o that_o as_o to_o word_n right_o name_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n the_o first_o of_o those_o do_v need_v some_o explanation_n because_o in_o some_o sense_n even_o the_o best_a of_o saint_n can_v depart_v from_o sin_n or_o iniquity_n 1._o because_o as_o to_o the_o be_v of_o it_o it_o be_v seat_v and_o root_v in_o their_o flesh_n and_o have_v its_o dwell_n there_o yea_o it_o have_v and_o so_o will_v have_v a_o abide_n there_o so_o long_o as_o man_n be_v on_o this_o side_n that_o state_n of_o perfection_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v enjoy_v while_o we_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n for_o in_o i_o 7._o that_o be_v in_o my_o flesh_n sin_n dwell_v nor_o do_v any_o thing_n else_o but_o sin_n dwell_v there_o for_o in_o i_o that_o be_v in_o my_o flesh_n say_v paul_n dwell_v no_o good_a thing_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n must_v not_o be_v understand_v as_o if_o he_o intend_v to_o insinuate_v that_o there_o be_v a_o possibility_n that_o the_o nature_n and_o be_v of_o sin_n can_v be_v pluck_v up_o by_o the_o root_n and_o so_o cast_v clean_o away_o from_o we_o as_o to_o the_o very_a nature_n thereof_o no_o that_o will_v abide_v with_o we_o for_o it_o have_v its_o dwell_n in_o we_o 2._o and_o as_o they_o can_v depart_v from_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o as_o such_o that_o be_v as_o they_o can_v be_v rid_v of_o the_o be_v of_o sin_n so_o neither_o can_v they_o depart_v from_o the_o motion_n and_o stir_n of_o sin_n no_o more_o than_o they_o can_v stir_v from_o the_o motion_n or_o stir_n of_o their_o natural_a sense_n or_o of_o their_o natural_a reason_n the_o motion_n of_o sin_n which_o paul_n also_o call_v the_o lust_n thereof_o will_v be_v where_o the_o nature_n and_o be_v of_o sin_n be_v because_o it_o be_v not_o dead_a for_o that_o which_o live_v what_o manner_n of_o life_n soever_o it_o have_v will_v have_v motion_n according_a to_o the_o manner_n of_o life_n which_o it_o have_v and_o sin_n be_v one_o of_o the_o most_o quick_a and_o brisk_a thing_n that_o be_v it_o will_v also_o have_v its_o motion_n and_o lust_n according_o hence_o paul_n say_v it_o lust_n and_o will_v lust_n 5.17_o where_o it_o be_v and_o dwell_v though_o the_o very_a spirit_n of_o god_n and_o the_o utmost_a diligence_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v also_o there_o to_o oppose_v it_o 3._o again_o as_o the_o be_v and_o motion_n of_o sin_n will_v be_v with_o we_o so_o also_o will_v it_o in_o its_o endeavour_n it_o will_v endeavour_v to_o overcome_v we_o and_o to_o make_v we_o captive_n to_o itself_o and_o to_o satan_n and_o these_o endeavour_n will_v be_v with_o we_o nor_o can_v we_o so_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n 12.4_o as_o to_o be_v utter_o rid_v of_o all_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o what_o endeavour_v there_o be_v in_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n to_o be_v master_n and_o lord_n and_o reign_v sin_n will_v endeavour_v to_o defile_v the_o mind_n to_o defile_v the_o conscience_n to_o defile_v the_o life_n and_o conversation_n and_o this_o endeavour_n as_o endeavour_v we_o can_v depart_v from_o that_o be_v cause_n that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v in_o our_o flesh_n for_o there_o it_o will_v be_v since_o sin_n in_o its_o be_v be_v their_o 4._o as_o the_o be_v motions_z and_o endeavour_n of_o sin_n will_v still_o abide_v in_o our_o flesh_n so_o consequent_o will_v its_o pollute_a fume_n be_v upon_o we_o nor_o do_v the_o apostle_n mean_v when_o he_o bid_v we_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n that_o we_o shall_v think_v that_o we_o can_v so_o be_v or_o so_o do_v in_o this_o life_n as_o that_o our_o be_v or_o do_v shall_v not_o smell_v of_o the_o strong_a scent_n of_o sin_n 14.4_o who_o can_v bring_v a_o clean_a thing_n out_o of_o a_o unclean_a not_o one_o we_o be_v all_o as_o a_o unclean_a thing_n and_o therefore_o all_o our_o righteousness_n be_v as_o filthy_a rag_n 64.6_o the_o scent_n the_o smell_n the_o rank_n and_o odious_a stink_n of_o sin_n abide_v upon_o yea_o and_o will_v abide_v upon_o we_o when_o most_o spiritual_a here_o and_o upon_o our_o most_o spiritual_a action_n too_o until_o they_o be_v take_v away_o by_o christ._n thus_o far_o therefore_o we_o can_v be_v concern_v in_o the_o exhortation_n for_o shall_v paul_n exhort_v we_o to_o depart_v from_o the_o be_v motion_n endeavour_n and_o pollute_a fume_n and_o scent_n of_o sin_n i_o mean_v so_o to_o depart_v from_o they_o as_o that_o there_o shall_v no_o such_o thing_n have_v place_n or_o motion_n or_o strive_v or_o scent_n in_o or_o upon_o we_o he_o will_v exhort_v we_o to_o that_o which_o be_v altogether_o impossible_a for_o we_o to_o perform_v yea_o to_o perform_v through_o that_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o be_v
grace_n of_o christ_n the_o faith_n the_o repentance_n the_o love_n and_o hope_n of_o the_o gospel_n no_o marvel_n then_o if_o they_o abide_v among_o the_o wooden_a sort_n of_o professor_n no_o marvel_v then_o though_o the_o iniquity_n of_o their_o heel_n still_o follow_v they_o and_o that_o it_o drop_v from_o they_o wherever_o they_o go_v but_o so_o much_o for_o the_o first_o reason_n why_o man_n do_v name_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o do_v not_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n reason_n second_o the_o second_o reason_n why_o some_o that_o name_n the_o name_n of_o christ_n depart_v not_o from_o iniquity_n be_v for_o that_o though_o they_o rest_v not_o in_o bare_a notion_n as_o those_o foremention_v yet_o they_o take_v up_o as_o they_o short_a of_o the_o save_a grace_n of_o god_n there_o be_v bare_a notion_n there_o be_v common_a work_n and_o there_o be_v a_o work_n that_o be_v save_v and_o that_o will_v do_v the_o soul_n good_a to_o eternity_n 1._o there_o be_v bare_a notion_n 20._o and_o they_o that_o have_v they_o be_v such_o unto_o who_o the_o gospel_n come_v in_o word_n only_o such_o who_o religion_n stand_v in_o word_n only_o and_o be_v not_o attend_v with_o a_o power_n suitable_a that_o be_v there_o go_v not_o along_o with_o the_o word_n a_o power_n sufficient_a to_o subdue_v and_o work_v over_o the_o heart_n to_o a_o cordial_a and_o gracious_a close_o with_o that_o word_n that_o come_v to_o they_o yet_o such_o be_v the_o noise_n and_o sound_v of_o the_o word_n that_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o become_v professor_n thereof_o there_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o musicalness_n in_o it_o special_o when_o well_o handle_v and_o finger_v by_o a_o skilful_a preacher_n and_o lo_o say_v god_n unto_o such_o preacher_n when_o their_o auditory_a be_v make_v up_o of_o such_o kind_n of_o hearer_n and_o lo_o 32._o thou_o be_v unto_o they_o as_o a_o very_a lovely_a song_n or_o as_o one_o that_o sing_v a_o song_n of_o love_n of_o one_o that_o have_v a_o pleasant_a voice_n and_o can_v play_v well_o on_o a_o instrument_n for_o they_o hear_v thy_o word_n but_o they_o do_v they_o not_o 2._o but_o then_o beside_o these_o there_o be_v another_o sort_n and_o they_o go_v further_o than_o these_o for_o to_o they_o the_o word_n come_v not_o in_o word_n only_o but_o also_o in_o power_n though_o not_o in_o that_o or_o in_o such_o a_o power_n as_o be_v sufficient_a absolute_o against_o all_o attempt_n whatsoever_o to_o bring_v the_o soul_n to_o glory_n of_o these_o we_o read_v in_o several_a place_n to_o wit_n that_o they_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v but_o not_o so_o as_o to_o bring_v they_o safe_a to_o glory_n yet_o thus_o far_o they_o go_v 6.4_o 1._o they_o attain_v light_n or_o illumination_n to_o see_v much_o of_o their_o state_n by_o nature_n with_o 29._o 2._o this_o light_n stand_v not_o in_o bare_a speculation_n but_o le_fw-fr we_o fall_v upon_o the_o conscience_n convince_a argument_n to_o the_o bow_v and_o humble_v of_o the_o spirit_n 3._o they_o submit_v to_o these_o conviction_n and_o reform_v and_o may_v for_o a_o time_n not_o only_o come_v out_o from_o they_o that_o live_v in_o error_n 20._o but_o escape_v the_o pollution_n of_o the_o world_n by_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ._n 4.20_o 4._o yea_o so_o powerful_a will_v this_o dispensation_n be_v that_o it_o will_v prevail_v with_o they_o to_o do_v and_o suffer_v many_o thing_n for_o the_o vindication_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o that_o gospel_n which_o they_o profess_v for_o 1._o the_o word_n will_v be_v sweet_a unto_o they_o 2._o christ_n the_o gift_n of_o god_n 6.4.5_o will_v be_v relish_v by_o they_o 3._o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v will_v be_v in_o they_o 4._o some_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n will_v be_v in_o they_o 5._o and_o joy_n 8.13_o which_o be_v as_o oil_n to_o the_o wheel_n will_v be_v with_o their_o soul_n thus_o i_o say_v it_o be_v with_o some_o professor_n who_o yet_o can_v be_v say_v to_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n that_o be_v for_o all_o ado_n because_o the_o thing_n that_o now_o be_v upon_o they_o abide_v with_o they_o but_o awhile_o for_o awhile_o they_o believe_v 2.11_o they_o rejoice_v in_o the_o light_n for_o a_o season_n so_o they_o clean_a escape_n from_o they_o who_o live_v in_o error_n for_o a_o little_a or_o awhile_o and_o after_o that_o return_n to_o their_o old_a course_n and_o be_v again_o entangle_v with_o their_o inquity_n and_o overcome_v this_o be_v call_v a_o turn_n with_o the_o dog_n to_o his_o own_o vomit_n again_o and_o with_o the_o sow_n that_o be_v wash_v to_o she_o wallow_v in_o the_o mire_n and_o some_o of_o these_o be_v set_v forth_o by_o this_o and_o such_o like_a say_n 45_o when_o the_o unclean_a spirit_n be_v go_v out_o of_o a_o man_n he_o walk_v through_o dry_a place_n seek_v rest_n and_o find_v none_o then_o he_o say_v i_o will_v return_v into_o my_o house_n from_o whence_o i_o come_v out_o and_o when_o he_o be_v come_v he_o find_v it_o empty_a sweep_v and_o garnish_v then_o go_v he_o and_o take_v with_o himself_o seven_o other_o spirit_n more_o wicked_a than_o himself_o and_o they_o enter_v in_o and_o dwell_v there_o and_o the_o last_o state_n of_o that_o man_n be_v worse_a than_o the_o first_o now_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o declension_n return_v or_o fall_v away_o again_o unto_o iniquity_n be_v many_o first_o one_o be_v for_o that_o this_o work_n this_o work_n of_o power_n that_o they_o have_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o have_v not_o be_v through_o enough_o upon_o all_o the_o power_n of_o their_o soul_n their_o understanding_n their_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n have_v be_v deal_v with_o but_o the_o power_n of_o god_n have_v not_o be_v upon_o their_o will_n and_o mind_n 110.3_o and_o affection_n right_o to_o subdue_v they_o to_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n indeed_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o subjection_n of_o the_o will_n and_o a_o overrule_a of_o the_o mind_n and_o affection_n also_o else_o they_o can_v not_o for_o a_o time_n lie_v aside_o their_o iniquity_n come_v off_o from_o the_o pollution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o for_o a_o season_n rejoice_v in_o the_o word_n and_o be_v please_v with_o the_o light_n thereof_o but_o we_o may_v consider_v that_o this_o may_v be_v not_o for_o that_o a_o sound_a work_n of_o god_n have_v pass_v upon_o these_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o that_o rather_o this_o be_v by_o reason_n of_o those_o reflex_n act_n that_o the_o understanding_n now_o enlighten_v the_o judgement_n now_o inform_v and_o the_o conscience_n now_o convince_v have_v upon_o these_o other_o power_n of_o the_o soul._n and_o i_o the_o rather_o think_v it_o so_o because_o willingness_n mindfulness_n of_o and_o with_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n they_o return_v again_o to_o their_o course_n and_o go_v away_o as_o before_o with_o iniquity_n nor_o do_v i_o by_o any_o thing_n here_o discourse_v lie_v blame_v or_o fault_n at_o the_o door_n of_o god_n for_o 1._o he_o be_v a_o free_a agent_n to_o do_v what_o he_o please_v and_o may_v if_o he_o please_v refuse_v to_o give_v any_o thing_n or_o if_o he_o give_v something_o why_o may_v he_o not_o give_v what_o he_o please_v also_o he_o may_v give_v special_a grace_n to_o one_o and_o that_o which_o be_v not_o so_o to_o another_o he_o may_v open_v baalam_n
