do_v still_o come_v on_o a_o fresh_a you_o must_v meet_v with_o he_o on_o plain_a term_n that_o be_v overthrow_v in_o plain_a ground_n he_o may_v fly_v away_o with_o disgrace_n now_o he_o set_v on_o we_o many_o way_n for_o sometime_o he_o seek_v to_o ensnare_v we_o secret_o and_o under_o pretence_n of_o piety_n sometime_o he_o set_v upon_o we_o open_o and_o with_o open_a fury_n sometime_o he_o creep_v by_o little_a sometime_o he_o break_v forth_o sudden_o and_o unlooked_a for_o sometime_o he_o lay_v siege_n to_o we_o by_o spiritual_a and_o internal_a mean_n sometime_o by_o corporal_a and_o external_a adversaye_n or_o prosperity_n wherefore_o we_o must_v always_o have_v recourse_n to_o the_o aid_n of_o our_o lord_n passion_n and_o cry_v to_o god_n with_o tear_n but_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v soar_v not_o too_o high_a by_o reason_n of_o the_o grace_n which_o peradventure_o you_o have_v for_o what_o have_v you_o that_o you_o have_v not_o receive_v why_o do_v you_o glory_n self_n complacence_n see_v you_o brag_v not_o see_v you_o boast_n not_o abroad_o of_o what_o you_o have_v receive_v but_o keep_v your_o secret_n to_o yourself_o let_v it_o abide_v with_o you_o unless_o you_o happen_v to_o reveal_v it_o humble_o and_o modest_o to_o some_o intimate_a and_o secret_a friend_n for_o spiritual_a utility_n or_o consolation_n or_o that_o you_o be_v compel_v by_o obedience_n or_o other_o manifest_a necessity_n or_o great_a profitt_a see_v that_o you_o believe_v not_o that_o you_o have_v receive_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n by_o your_o own_o merit_n and_o labour_n but_o rather_o judge_v yourself_o unworthy_a as_o indeed_o you_o be_v of_o all_o grace_n and_o consolation_n and_o worthy_a of_o all_o confusion_n and_o dereliction_n compare_v yourself_o with_o those_o that_o be_v more_o holy_a that_o by_o consideration_n of_o their_o perfection_n you_o may_v the_o better_o acknowledge_v your_o own_o imperfection_n humble_a and_o deject_v yourself_o place_n yourself_o unfayned_o below_o all_o man_n but_o you_o will_v say_v how_o can_v i_o do_v this_o consider_v that_o many_o with_o out_o fear_v or_o shame_n live_v most_o debauched_o which_o i_o neither_o do_v nor_o will_v do_v what_o shall_v i_o cast_v myself_o below_o they_o shall_v i_o place_v they_o above_o i_o i_o say_v you_o shall_v chapter_n viii_o a_o very_a good_a mean_n to_o obtain_v humility_n for_o if_o you_o consider_v that_o these_o who_o to_o day_n be_v so_o bad_a may_v to_o morrow_n be_v more_o perfect_a than_o yourself_o and_o that_o if_o they_o have_v receive_v the_o gift_n that_o be_v grant_v you_o from_o above_o they_o will_v lead_v a_o far_o more_o holy_a life_n than_o yourself_o and_o that_o you_o will_v sin_v more_o grevious_o than_o they_o if_o you_o be_v not_o prevent_v by_o a_o more_o abundant_a grace_n i_o say_v if_o you_o consider_v these_o thing_n you_o will_v easy_o observe_v how_o fit_a it_o be_v that_o you_o shall_v prefer_v every_o sinner_n before_o yourself_o o_o if_o you_o do_v know_v the_o secret_a of_o god_n how_o willing_o will_v you_o give_v place_n to_o other_o how_o glad_o will_v you_o take_v the_o low_a place_n how_o joyful_o will_v you_o lay_v yourself_o at_o the_o foot_n of_o other_o with_o what_o alacrity_n will_v you_o attend_v the_o sick_a how_o devout_o will_v you_o honour_v all_o how_o affectionate_o obedient_a will_v you_o be_v without_o any_o delay_n or_o complaint_n but_o yet_o i_o require_v a_o more_o excellent_a thing_n of_o you_o viz_o that_o you_o place_v yourself_o not_o only_o below_o all_o man_n in_o your_o heart_n for_o god_n sake_n but_o also_o below_o each_o creature_n repute_v yourself_o as_o most_o abject_a dust_n esteeminge_v your_o self_n unworthy_a to_o tread_v on_o the_o earth_n or_o to_o enjoy_v the_o benefitt_a of_o light_n look_v more_o exact_o into_o yourself_o how_o ingrateful_a tepid_a unstable_a miserable_a and_o vile_a you_o be_v and_o by_o that_o mean_v you_o will_v attain_v to_o that_o most_o humble_a submission_n of_o mind_n if_o the_o old_a enemy_n knock_v importunate_o at_o the_o door_n of_o your_o heart_n put_v into_o your_o conceit_n that_o you_o shall_v think_v yourself_o some_o body_n that_o you_o shall_v vain_o glory_v and_o compare_v yourself_o with_o other_o repel_v the_o subtle_a villainy_n lock_v the_o door_n against_o he_o and_o although_o you_o feel_v some_o pestilent_a immission_n beware_v always_o of_o give_v your_o consent_n for_o if_o you_o consent_v if_o you_o let_v in_o the_o impostor_n and_o incline_v your_o mind_n to_o his_o unlawful_a allurement_n you_o have_v break_v your_o faith_n and_o vow_n which_o you_o have_v make_v to_o the_o bridegroom_n of_o your_o soul_n you_o have_v pollute_v the_o bed_n of_o your_o belove_a
