the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n so_o there_o be_v a_o meekness_n that_o be_v gain_v by_o the_o work_n of_o reason_n in_o fleshly_a feel_n and_o another_o that_o be_v deep_o feel_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o be_v the_o free_a and_o spiritual_a gift_n of_o love_n and_o it_o be_v a_o full_a hard_a thing_n and_o a_o great_a mystery_n to_o he_o that_o stand_v in_o the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o reason_n to_o keep_v constant_a rest_n and_o softness_n in_o his_o heart_n and_o charity_n to_o love_v man_n when_o they_o despise_v he_o without_o resist_v or_o repine_v thereat_o etc._n etc._n both_o these_o be_v of_o love_n but_o the_o first_o work_v by_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o second_o work_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o the_o first_o be_v imperfect_a the_o second_o perfect_a the_o first_o meekness_n a_o man_n feel_v in_o behold_v his_o sin_n and_o wretchedness_n and_o judge_v himself_o unworthy_a of_o any_o mercy_n or_o good_a thing_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o as_o the_o worst_a of_o creature_n worthy_a of_o all_o suffering_n and_o thus_o thrust_v himself_o down_o under_o all_o other_o and_o grieve_v in_o his_o heart_n when_o he_o be_v overcome_v by_o any_o temptation_n confess_v accuse_v himself_o and_o ask_v forgiveness_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o be_v not_o perfect_a meekness_n for_o it_o come_v of_o beginning_n to_o profit_n in_o grace_n cause_v by_o behold_v of_o sin_n and_o this_o be_v the_o meekness_n that_o love_n work_v by_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o perfect_a meekness_n the_o soul_n feel_v of_o the_o sight_n and_o spiritual_a knowledge_n of_o jesus_n christ_n see_v he_o to_o be_v all_o and_o do_v all_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o for_o it_o and_o have_v so_o great_a love_n and_o joy_n in_o that_o spiritual_a sight_n that_o it_o forget_v itself_o after_o a_o sort_n and_o lean_v to_o jesus_n christ_n with_o all_o the_o love_n it_o have_v to_o behold_v he_o and_o heed_v not_o any_o unworthiness_n or_o sin_n before_o do_v but_o set_v itself_o with_o all_o sin_n past_a and_o good_a deed_n also_o at_o nought_o as_o unworthy_a to_o be_v remember_v and_o judge_v no_o particular_a soul_n neither_o better_a nor_o worse_o they_o himself_o but_o love_v and_o help_v the_o good_a in_o all_o and_o every_o man_n therein_o and_o slight_v and_o despise_v all_o the_o joy_n and_o worship_n of_o this_o world_n as_o see_v it_o so_o little_a and_o nought_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o joy_n and_o love_v the_o soul_n feel_v in_o the_o spiritual_a sight_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o knowledge_n of_o his_o purity_n and_o holiness_n that_o though_o he_o may_v have_v all_o worldly_a joy_n and_o worship_n without_o sin_n yet_o he_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o it_o the_o world_n have_v no_o savour_n in_o this_o meekness_n but_o be_v exceed_v far_o from_o it_o it_o be_v the_o lover_n of_o jesus_n christ_n only_a that_o have_v this_o meekness_n abide_v in_o he_o with_o like_n and_o gladness_n and_o that_o without_o any_o heaviness_n or_o stir_v for_o it_o but_o the_o world_n have_v a_o proud_a meekness_n belong_v to_o a_o hypocrite_n without_o this_o joy_n or_o gladness_n by_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o do_v heed_n the_o praise_n of_o man_n as_o also_o fear_v their_o dispraise_n take_v pleasure_n or_o displeasure_n thereat_o in_o themselves_o and_o it_o be_v like_o this_o be_v the_o snare_n that_o david_n pray_v to_o have_v his_o heart_n pluck_v out_o of_o and_o many_o that_o yet_o love_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n more_o than_o god_n or_o his_o praise_n do_v bestir_v themselves_o travel_n and_o labour_n with_o their_o will_n wit_n and_o affection_n and_o so_o think_v on_o god_n christ_n and_o outward_a exercise_n as_o it_o be_v by_o their_o strength_n to_o draw_v out_o of_o themselves_o a_o feeling_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n even_o by_o bodily_a force_n and_o mastery_n if_o that_o be_v possible_a but_o these_o love_v not_o spiritual_o nor_o be_v this_o a_o kindly_a or_o gracious_a work_n of_o love_n but_o a_o kind_n of_o maddo_n of_o the_o soul_n at_o reason_n bid_v which_o without_o meekness_n and_o forsake_v the_o love_n of_o earthly_a thing_n be_v very_o dangerous_a to_o beget_v spiritual_a pride_n which_o otherwise_o do_v in_o meekness_n of_o love_n and_o a_o loathe_n of_o all_o earthly_a affection_n may_v find_v favour_n with_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v by_o he_o change_v from_o man_n own_o work_n into_o spiritual_a working_n for_o as_o man_n can_v think_v a_o good_a thought_n of_o himself_o so_o he_o ought_v to_o forbear_v his_o own_o think_n word_n and_o work_n as_o not_o good_a and_o therefore_o can_v find_v no_o acceptance_n with_o god_n and_o wait_v with_o patience_n for_o the_o lord_n work_v in_o he_o to_o will_v and_o to_o do_v of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n all_o other_o working_n be_v to_o the_o soul_n great_a suffering_n and_o loss_n as_o the_o prophet_n say_v the_o kindle_v of_o fire_n with_o man_n own_o spark_n cause_v the_o foul_a to_o lie_v down_o in_o sorrow_n in_o such_o a_o imperfect_a lover_n love_n work_v free_o by_o the_o affection_n of_o man_n but_o in_o perfect_a lover_n love_n work_v within_o in_o the_o light_n by_o spiritual_a affection_n kill_v all_o other_o affection_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o that_o both_o kindly_a and_o quiet_o but_o man_n not_o know_v this_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n will_v not_o believe_v how_o the_o virtue_n of_o meekness_n soberness_n chastity_n love_n and_o cleanness_n be_v wrought_v so_o quiet_o and_o sure_o without_o travel_n or_o painful_a labour_n of_o the_o body_n and_o bodily_a wit_n and_o therefore_o they_o labour_v and_o toil_n day_n after_o day_n with_o their_o reason_n and_o outward_a exercise_n in_o their_o own_o strength_n to_o get_v virtue_n and_o make_v love_n by_o word_n and_o other_o stir_n and_o what_o they_o seem_v so_o to_o get_v they_o have_v much_o more_o ado_n to_o keep_v with_o all_o their_o fight_n against_o sin_n contending_n for_o grace_n and_o wrangling_n about_o it_o and_o therefore_o be_v like_o wrestler_n sometime_o above_o and_o soon_o again_o underneath_o up_o and_o down_o in_o and_o out_o off_o and_o on_o get_v and_o lose_v and_o so_o weary_a their_o wit_n and_o tire_v themselves_o because_o all_o this_o strive_v be_v in_o their_o own_o reason_n might_n and_o strength_n of_o self-will_n as_o fight_n with_o themselves_o but_o neither_o in_o true_a savour_n nor_o love_n and_o therefore_o have_v not_o the_o victory_n or_o upper_a hand_n of_o what_o they_o strive_v about_o and_o such_o must_v loose_v the_o full_a rest_n because_o no_o man_n may_v so_o put_v himself_o full_o into_o god_n hand_n for_o that_o man_n see_v he_o not_o but_o his_o eye_n be_v shut_v he_o thereby_o close_v it_o fast_o lest_o he_o shall_v see_v and_o will_v not_o know_v it_o and_o though_o some_o such_o may_v suffer_v bodily_a pain_n for_o what_o they_o do_v as_o in_o love_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o glad_o yet_o be_v not_o of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n lead_v by_o the_o fire_n of_o burn_a love_n and_o brightness_n it_o be_v full_o mingle_v with_o high_a pride_n presumption_n judge_v and_o disdain_v they_o by_o who_o they_o suffer_v and_o yet_o these_o say_v and_o think_v they_o be_v in_o charity_n and_o that_o they_o suffer_v all_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o be_v begail_v by_o the_o devil_n transforming_n because_o their_o knowledge_n of_o god_n be_v principal_o in_o imagination_n and_o their_o love_n to_o he_o in_o natural_a affection_n and_o bodily_a likeness_n at_o the_o best_a but_o as_o milk_v before_o strong_a meat_n for_o in_o strong_a feed_n on_o the_o father_n bread_n at_o his_o own_o table_n the_o imagination_n may_v not_o be_v serviceable_a unless_o to_o the_o feel_n in_o understanding_n when_o need_n be_v and_o then_o only_o as_o a_o handmaid_n wait_v on_o the_o hand_n of_o she_o dame_n many_o do_v like_o well_o of_o the_o virtue_n of_o meekness_n lowliness_n and_o patience_n as_o in_o their_o own_o reason_n and_o will_n that_o be_v enemy_n thereto_o in_o their_o affection_n through_o grudge_n in_o themselves_o at_o those_o in_o who_o they_o be_v and_o so_o can_v have_v no_o love_n to_o virtue_n or_o virtuous_a man_n or_o know_v how_o to_o delight_v in_o they_o as_o such_o spiritual_o and_o what_o these_o man_n do_v by_o the_o stir_n of_o reason_n in_o they_o be_v but_o out_o of_o a_o fleshly_a fear_n of_o god_n or_o rather_o applause_n of_o man_n for_o jesus_n christ_n be_v but_o as_o a_o stranger_n to_o the_o soul_n until_o his_o image_n be_v therein_o reform_v in_o meekness_n and_o love_n which_o be_v his_o livery_n and_o wherein_o he_o discover_v himself_o and_o his_o secret_n as_o he_o say_v to_o his_o
likeness_n of_o christ_n fleshly_a holiness_n and_o may_v be_v in_o so_o great_a love_n that_o it_o slay_v all_o wicked_a love_n in_o their_o soul_n and_o strengthen_v they_o to_o suffer_v free_o for_o he_o and_o yet_o this_o over-shadowing_a of_o their_o soul_n whereby_o they_o be_v keep_v from_o the_o great_a love_n of_o the_o world_n be_v only_o as_o a_o shadow_n of_o the_o invisible_a light_n of_o the_o godhead_n and_o manhood_n unite_v and_o light_o touch_v the_o serious_a and_o devour_v soul_n whereof_o the_o prophet_n speak_v as_o be_v under_o the_o shadow_n of_o his_o spiritual_a wing_n or_o manhood_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v but_o christ_n love_n receive_v intomens_n dark_a mind_n and_o imagination_n though_o it_o be_v that_o condition_n whereunto_o thousand_o profess_v christianity_n have_v not_o yet_o attain_v though_o they_o pretend_v much_o and_o seem_v to_o teach_v other_o also_o but_o it_o be_v faith_n and_o spiritual_a feel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n which_o purify_v the_o heart_n and_o whereby_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o understand_v his_o spiritual_a love_n in_o the_o godhead_n as_o christ_n say_v i_o in_o they_o and_o thou_o in_o i_o and_o to_o be_v make_v perfect_a in_o one_o etc._n etc._n to_o which_o all_o bodily_a behold_n be_v but_o as_o mean_n direct_a man_n mind_n to_o the_o light_n and_o thereby_o their_o soul_n to_o a_o serious_a consideration_n of_o the_o wonderful_a love_n goodness_n power_n and_o wisdom_n manifest_v in_o the_o manhood_n of_o christ_n spiritual_o and_o so_o it_o be_v like_o martha_n love_v he_o and_o labour_v in_o outward_a service_n for_o he_o and_o that_o with_o hearty_a affection_n but_o mary_n choose_v the_o better_a part_n she_o receive_v and_o embrace_v he_o with_o more_o pure_a affection_n and_o retain_v he_o in_o she_o bear_v it_o marry_o magdalen_n love_v christ_n well_o before_o his_o passion_n of_o bodily_a death_n but_o her_o love_n be_v much_o bodily_a and_o little_a spiritual_o for_o she_o love_v he_o not_o as_o god_n before_o though_o her_o thought_n and_o affection_n be_v set_v upon_o he_o in_o which_o affection_n or_o action_n express_v her_o love_n christ_n condemn_v she_o not_o in_o that_o time_n so_o far_o as_o we_o find_v but_o after_o when_o he_o be_v rise_v from_o death_n and_o appear_v unto_o she_o she_o will_v have_v reverence_v he_o with_o such_o a_o manner_n of_o love_n as_o she_o do_v before_o and_o then_o christ_n forbid_v she_o say_v touch_v i_o not_o as_o look_v not_o on_o i_o with_o a_o fleshly_a eye_n to_o rest_v therein_o for_o so_o i_o be_o not_o ascend_v to_o my_o father_n nor_o equal_a to_o the_o father_n so_o but_o now_o love_v i_o as_o i_o be_o one_o with_o the_o father_n in_o the_o form_n of_o the_o godhead_n know_v love_n and_o worship_v i_o as_o god_n and_o man_n like_o god_n so_o to_o be_v with_o i_o love_n and_o worship_v i_o only_o for_o that_o i_o be_o god_n that_o take_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o receive_v and_o embrace_v i_o as_o god_n in_o thy_o heart_n and_o in_o thy_o love_n of_o i_o and_o worship_v i_o in_o the_o enlighten_v understanding_n of_o thy_o soul_n as_o jesus_n christ_n god_n and_o man_n the_o save_a truth_n goodness_n and_o light_n of_o bless_a life_n and_o spiritual_a joy_n and_o so_o christ_n jesus_n promise_v to_o come_v unto_o his_o disciple_n and_o be_v with_o they_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n after_o give_v they_o with_o power_n from_o on_o high_a to_o teach_v they_o all_o thing_n and_o lead_v they_o into_o all_o truth_n the_o which_o heavenly_a gift_n of_o holiness_n and_o glory_n few_o have_v yet_o attain_v to_o in_o these_o latter_a time_n since_o the_o apostasy_n and_o therefore_o those_o soul_n that_o have_v not_o attain_v to_o this_o spiritual_a understanding_n of_o he_o through_o his_o grace_n be_v to_o wait_v in_o his_o light_n with_o pure_a affection_n of_o fervent_a love_n until_o more_o grace_n be_v free_o give_v unto_o they_o and_o not_o to_o overrun_v the_o condition_n wherein_o they_o be_v but_o stay_v therein_o until_o they_o shall_v respective_o feel_v a_o better_o reveal_v in_o they_o still_o mind_v that_o all_o spiritual_a gift_n be_v feel_v and_o taste_v in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n chief_o in_o love_n and_o spiritual_a understanding_n but_o not_o in_o imagination_n through_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o body_n or_o bodily_a wit_n which_o be_v not_o spiritual_a feeling_n and_o at_o most_o but_o outward_a token_n of_o spiritual_a inward_a feeling_n in_o the_o power_n of_o their_o soul_n where_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v light_v their_o reason_n and_o kindle_v their_o affection_n with_o his_o bless_a presence_n so_o clear_o in_o fervent_a love_n that_o they_o immediate_o thereby_o receive_v the_o knowledge_n of_o spiritual_a truth_n and_o perfect_a love_n with_o a_o outward_a show_v of_o of_o the_o inward_a feel_n of_o spiritual_a grace_n and_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o former_a disciple_n so_o it_o be_v now_o in_o other_o like-perfect_a soul_n visit_v and_o light_v within_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n whereby_o there_o be_v a_o outward_a feel_n of_o the_o inward_a grace_n and_o the_o body_n make_v obedient_a thereby_o to_o the_o spirit_n move_v and_o lead_v without_o fainedness_n or_o fancy_n of_o imagination_n and_o he_o be_v no_o spiritual_a man_n that_o have_v not_o thus_o learned_a christ_n or_o be_v teach_v his_o lesson_n by_o he_o in_o like_a spiritual_a wise_n nor_o any_o way_n qualify_v to_o judge_v of_o spiritual_a matter_n but_o must_v consequent_o err_v in_o his_o understanding_n and_o mar_v all_o he_o meddle_v with_o and_o not_o know_v how_o or_o wherein_o he_o so_o err_v much_o less_o how_o to_o amend_v his_o own_o crrour_n and_o how_o then_o shall_v he_o reform_v other_o but_o as_o a_o blind_a man_n may_v judge_v of_o colour_n because_o these_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v above_o the_o sight_n of_o his_o carnal_a eye_n so_o that_o he_o perceive_v they_o not_o that_o have_v not_o the_o spiritual_a eye_n of_o his_o understanding_n open_v and_o how_o then_o shall_v he_o open_v the_o scripture_n that_o as_o christ_n say_v neither_o know_v they_o nor_o the_o power_n of_o god_n or_o be_v skilled_a in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o spiritual_a weapon_n his_o warfare_n or_o work_n to_o be_v do_v in_o his_o vineyard_n or_o know_v the_o kingdom_n power_n or_o glory_n of_o god_n whereto_o all_o true_a service_n tend_v for_o as_o it_o be_v write_v the_o natural_a man_n understand_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o they_o be_v foolishness_n to_o he_o for_o it_o be_v the_o spiritual_a man_n that_o judge_v all_o thing_n and_o be_v judge_v of_o no_o man_n because_o his_o life_n be_v hide_v with_o god_n in_o christ_n as_o take_v from_o the_o earth_n and_o unknown_a to_o the_o world_n but_o well_o know_v to_o god_n and_o be_v so_o reform_v in_o soul_n that_o he_o feel_v the_o least_o fleshly_a stir_v in_o he_o and_o condemn_v it_o and_o loathe_v it_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o ever_o flee_v to_o god_n for_o strength_n against_o all_o such_o motion_n and_o love_v not_o his_o life_n to_o attain_v the_o life_n eternal_a but_o be_v passive_a in_o every_o thing_n a_o man_n of_o sorrow_n and_o suffering_n as_o his_o lord_n jesus_n be_v and_o leave_v he_o a_o ensample_n to_o follow_v he_o therein_o see_v the_o business_n in_o hand_n be_v of_o soul-concernment_n it_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a that_o the_o soul_n shall_v know_v itself_o with_o the_o faculty_n virtue_n and_o power_n thereof_o by_o its_o turn_n into_o and_o watchful_a keep_n in_o its_o pure_a principle_n of_o the_o light_n of_o christ_n jesus_n in_o the_o conscience_n to_o love_v that_o light_n and_o observe_v its_o motion_n as_o it_o shall_v be_v lead_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n into_o all_o truth_n and_o thereby_o restore_v into_o its_o primitive_a purity_n fit_a to_o enjoy_v the_o sweet_a presence_n of_o god_n as_o adam_n do_v before_o his_o disobedience_n for_o a_o miserable_a and_o wretched_a man_n be_v he_o that_o know_v not_o the_o working_n worth_a and_o worthiness_n of_o his_o own_o soul_n the_o and_o glory_n whereto_o nothing_o can_v give_v true_a content_n satisfaction_n or_o rest_n but_o god_n only_o and_o therefore_o neither_o to_o love_v nor_o desire_v any_o thing_n but_o he_o for_o otherwise_o he_o can_v come_v to_o know_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o what_o it_o will_v work_v or_o will_v work_v in_o he_o how_o it_o strive_v how_o it_o be_v grieve_v how_o quench_v how_o he_o search_v all_o thing_n even_o the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n how_o he_o dwell_v in_o man_n how_o
and_o therefore_o so_o many_o under_o pretence_n of_o prayer_n and_o praise_n to_o god_n stick_v not_o to_o scoff_v at_o the_o teach_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n silent_a waiting_n upon_o god_n watch_v pray_v new_a light_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o go_v on_o blaspheme_v the_o father_n of_o light_n and_o the_o holy_a name_n by_o which_o his_o saint_n be_v call_v as_o thing_n most_o contrary_a to_o their_o nature_n and_o fleshly_a affection_n and_o therefore_o it_o high_o concern_v you_o every_o one_o to_o consider_v well_o with_o what_o you_o come_v before_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n whether_o christ_n jesus_n be_v in_o you_o or_o you_o be_v reprobate_n now_o if_o jesus_n christ_n be_v form_v in_o you_o than_o the_o body_n be_v daily_o die_v and_o if_o he_o be_v there_o form_v the_o body_n be_v dead_a because_o of_o sin_n and_o the_o spirit_n alive_a for_o righteousness_n sake_n and_o then_o all_o sensible_a thing_n of_o bodily_a wit_n of_o imagination_n natural_a reason_n and_o understanding_n be_v bring_v under_o the_o true_a light_n and_o heavenly_a spirit_n and_o yield_v up_o so_o as_o to_o know_v and_o do_v all_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n wherein_o i_o do_v not_o mean_v only_o name_v he_o as_o his_o name_n be_v write_v in_o a_o book_n or_o on_o a_o their_o right_a mind_n but_o bereave_v of_o their_o wit_n not_o know_v what_o they_o be_v of_o who_o they_o be_v to_o who_o they_o belong_v what_o their_o business_n be_v here_o or_o how_o to_o gain_v content_a in_o anything_o but_o every_o toy_n disquiet_v their_o mind_n every_o filthy_a lust_n take_v hold_v of_o they_o and_o get_v dominion_n over_o they_o lead_v they_o captive_a and_o they_o beastly_a love_n of_o the_o flesh_n or_o any_o creature_n by_o his_o bless_a love_n mere_a mercy_n and_o sovereign_a goodness_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n the_o soul_n become_v as_o adam_n be_v in_o paradise_n a_o innocent_a life_n of_o converse_v with_o god_n and_o as_o enoch_n that_o walk_v with_o god_n please_v he_o and_o be_v not_o find_v etc._n etc._n but_o this_o soul_n can_v be_v find_v or_o know_v while_o man_n have_v any_o thing_n molest_v it_o that_o be_v of_o his_o own_o body_n or_o bodily_a wit_n wherewith_o the_o sense_n may_v be_v exercise_v so_o he_o that_o will_v save_v and_o know_v himself_o and_o other_o also_o and_o the_o more_o meek_a humble_a lowly_a love_a tender_a and_o compassionate_a will_v he_o be_v towards_o all_o man_n and_o creature_n and_o this_o be_v the_o highestate_a and_o condition_n the_o heavenly_a and_o excellent_a dignity_n that_o adam_n lose_v when_o he_o become_v in_o love_n with_o himself_o and_o selfish_a thing_n take_v delight_n in_o earthly_a knowledge_n and_o worldly_a glory_n whereby_o he_o fall_v into_o a_o dark_a feeble_a and_o wretched_a estate_n like_o the_o beast_n that_o perish_v by_o which_o the_o love_n that_o before_o be_v clean_a savoury_a and_o sweet_a in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v so_o turn_v into_o a_o filthy_a beastly_a love_n and_o like_n of_o himself_o and_o the_o creature_n wherein_o he_o seek_v content_a fit_v for_o the_o service_n whereunto_o it_o be_v ordain_v by_o its_o be_v gather_v up_o into_o its_o self_n and_o full_o depart_v from_o behold_v all_o creature_o thing_n or_o selfish_a use_n of_o bodily_a wit_n art_n wisdom_n or_o knowledge_n of_o man_n get_v by_o any_o natural_a mean_n study_n labour_n or_o exercise_n so_o that_o the_o soul_n feel_v itself_o in_o its_o own_o kind_n in_o be_v as_o it_o be_v without_o a_o body_n for_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v open_v to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o his_o pure_a light_n and_o the_o love_n turn_v to_o he_o it_o be_v receive_v up_o above_o all_o bodily_a creature_n from_o behold_v like_n think_v on_o and_o use_v they_o and_o ever_o disdain_v to_o be_v obedient_a to_o any_o worldly_a thought_n or_o earthly_a thing_n that_o overcome_v with_o the_o sweetness_n of_o christ_n word_n of_o love_n clear_o reveal_v and_o speak_v into_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o that_o soul_n hear_v and_o obey_v with_o good_a worldly_a love_n that_o it_o be_v all_o common_a as_o the_o highway_n so_o that_o every_o stir_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o devil_n sink_v into_o it_o rest_v therein_o and_o pass_v through_o it_o as_o it_o please_v without_o control_n and_o so_o if_o any_o good_a seed_n fall_v therein_o it_o wither_v for_o want_v of_o earth_n it_o be_v choke_v or_o these_o fewl_n of_o the_o air_n steal_v it_o away_o and_o devour_v it_o there_o be_v only_o the_o degenerate_a nature_n of_o old_a adam_n while_o that_o which_o become_v a_o live_a soul_n want_v the_o quicken_a spirit_n to_o form_v the_o new_a man_n settle_v and_o establish_v the_o soul_n not_o according_a to_o the_o carnal_a commandment_n but_o after_o the_o power_n of_o the_o endless_a life_n but_o how_o hard_a and_o difficult_a this_o be_v for_o the_o rude_a soul_n so_o unacquainted_a with_o itself_o and_o accustom_v to_o receive_v tentation_n make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n and_o fulfil_v its_o lust_n and_o be_v stir_v much_o in_o filth_n and_o fleshly_a thing_n to_o enter_v this_o strait_a gate_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o its_o self_n in_o its_o true_a light_n be_v evident_a by_o the_o ignorance_n of_o most_o and_o the_o small_a number_n of_o those_o that_o find_v it_o for_o most_o man_n that_o will_v find_v entrance_n and_o know_v their_o soul_n in_o stead_n of_o turn_v in_o into_o the_o light_n of_o christ_n turn_v their_o thought_n with_o imagination_n into_o their_o body_n to_o seek_v for_o their_o soul_n and_o to_o feel_v they_o as_o though_o they_o be_v hide_v within_o their_o heart_n as_o their_o heart_n be_v hold_v and_o hide_v within_o their_o body_n now_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v covet_v to_o know_v his_o soul_n and_o that_o never_o so_o earnest_o and_o seek_v for_o it_o in_o that_o manner_n in_o his_o body_n he_o may_v not_o possible_o so_o find_v it_o in_o its_o self_n but_o the_o more_o he_o seek_v to_o feel_v and_o know_v it_o by_o studiousness_n as_o he_o will_v know_v or_o learn_v tongue_n art_n or_o other_o bodily_a thing_n the_o far_a shall_v he_o be_v from_o it_o by_o that_o seek_n and_o therefore_o so_o many_o weary_a themselves_o in_o vain_a by_o seek_v the_o door_n in_o a_o wrong_a way_n and_o contrary_a nature_n whereby_o it_o be_v hide_v from_o the_o wise_a and_o prudent_a and_o reveal_v only_o to_o babe_n and_o suckling_n at_o the_o breast_n of_o consolation_n in_o the_o pure_a light_n of_o christ_n who_o be_v this_o door_n and_o by_o who_o the_o diligent_a soul_n come_v true_o and_o quick_o to_o enter_v understand_v and_o know_v what_o its_o self_n be_v with_o its_o true_a teacher_n and_o guide_n while_o the_o other_o soul_n fall_v sudden_o into_o imagination_n of_o bodily_a thing_n and_o word_n suppose_v thereby_o to_o have_v or_o gain_v the_o light_n of_o its_o self_n and_o so_o of_o god_n and_o spiritual_a thing_n which_o as_o i_o say_v before_o can_v never_o be_v so_o attain_v by_o imagination_n or_o bodily_a wit_n as_o the_o mind_n may_v see_v sensible_o what_o be_v just_a between_o man_n and_o man_n by_o its_o understanding_n thereof_o for_o then_o the_o soul_n may_v see_v itself_o in_o understand_v
and_o sometime_o so_o far_o prevail_v as_o to_o occupy_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o soul_n while_o the_o spirit_n as_o a_o law_n within_o be_v labour_v for_o deliverance_n until_o the_o lord_n jesus_n please_v to_o prepare_v the_o soul_n and_o break_v into_o it_o by_o his_o bless_a presence_n and_o give_v it_o feel_v of_o pure_a love_n and_o so_o stretch_v the_o heart_n forward_o to_o fathom_n and_o follow_v what_o be_v before_o for_o behind_o be_v all_o bodily_a thing_n thought_n desire_n fear_n and_o such_o like_a that_o hinder_v the_o comfort_n in_o and_o speed_n of_o the_o whole_a work_n for_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v keep_v from_o the_o slaughter_n that_o be_v for_o destruction_n no_o mean_a in_o destroy_v sin_n though_o a_o right_a hand_n or_o eye_n they_o must_v away_o and_o give_v place_n to_o the_o divine_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o light_n which_o be_v bâ—fore_o as_o the_o spiritual_a virtue_n begâ—n_v in_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o willing_a soul_n and_o to_o be_v perfect_v in_o love_n as_o it_o come_v to_o be_v reform_v into_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n to_o a_o perfect_a hatred_n of_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o all_o waver_a mindedness_n and_o want_v of_o love_n for_o otherwise_o he_o hinder_v the_o work_n through_o his_o own_o wilfulness_n and_o choice_n in_o the_o contrary_a nature_n which_o will_v cause_v all_o to_o be_v to_o little_a purpose_n troublesome_a and_o heavy_a as_o a_o work_n in_o the_o fire_n if_o not_o thereby_o destroy_v because_o of_o his_o not_o feel_v any_o grace_n or_o spiritual_a savour_n therein_o the_o way_n wile_n and_o device_n of_o the_o evil_a one_o to_o deceive_v and_o devour_v soul_n be_v such_o and_o so_o divers_a in_o these_o late_a day_n that_o the_o ignorant_a and_o unskilful_a soul_n may_v not_o easy_o escape_v because_o he_o take_v all_o advantage_n by_o the_o time_n temptation_n bodily_a wit_n and_o faculty_n of_o such_o dark_a soul_n to_o lead_v they_o into_o self-love_n and_o the_o sundry_a kind_n of_o lustful_a live_n in_o the_o vanity_n of_o their_o mind_n wantonness_n and_o pleasure_n upon_o the_o earth_n as_o fit_v themselves_o for_o a_o day_n of_o slaughter_n and_o so_o keep_v they_o while_o he_o may_v in_o presumption_n etc._n etc._n but_o if_o once_o he_o see_v any_o soul_n will_v entire_o give_v themselves_o to_o be_v spiritual_o employ_v than_o he_o strive_v by_o himself_o and_o his_o minister_n to_o set_v their_o sin_n in_o order_n before_o they_o and_o tell_v they_o they_o be_v great_a sinner_n and_o more_o in_o this_o change_n and_o turn_v then_o in_o any_o thing_n before_o say_v to_o they_o that_o be_v not_o the_o way_n but_o a_o denial_n of_o christ_n a_o fancy_n and_o frenzy_n of_o a_o fanatic_a spirit_n and_o for_o some_o wicked_a end_n and_o that_o it_o will_v bring_v they_o into_o contempt_n want_n and_o poverty_n wherein_o none_o will_v pity_v they_o that_o they_o must_v change_v their_o condition_n with_o their_o mind_n wife_n and_o child_n come_v to_o want_v that_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o bodily_a sickness_n and_o be_v lay_v in_o prison_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v learned_a man_n to_o advise_v they_o better_o the_o minister_n to_o admonish_v they_o and_o pray_v for_o they_o to_o take_v counsel_n at_o the_o priest_n lip_n which_o preserve_v knowledge_n and_o not_o run_v of_o their_o own_o head_n with_o a_o few_o giddy_a contemptible_a people_n that_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o scripture_n and_o original_a tongue_n and_o if_o they_o depart_v not_o from_o their_o new_a way_n great_a temptation_n will_v overtake_v they_o and_o with_o much_o more_o of_o this_o kind_n do_v this_o flatter_a devil_n seek_v to_o beguile_v such_o soul_n as_o hearken_v to_o he_o by_o the_o cunning_a craftiness_n of_o such_o as_o lie_v in_o wait_n to_o deceive_v and_o that_o entangle_v with_o entice_a word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n to_o beguile_v their_o soul_n with_o bodily_a savour_n sweetness_n of_o wit_n art_n and_o outward_a exercise_n and_o thereby_o if_o possible_a draw_v they_o aside_o from_o the_o simplicity_n and_o puff_v they_o up_o with_o conceit_n of_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o have_v by_o such_o wisdom_n and_o the_o way_n thereof_o former_o find_v the_o feel_n of_o heavenly_a joy_n and_o so_o lead_v they_o back_o again_o and_o up_o into_o high_a notion_n and_o conceit_n of_o a_o proud_a mind_n until_o they_o become_v base_a and_o blockish_a and_o thereby_o fall_v full_a low_a at_o last_o with_o their_o cold_a dry_a and_o barren_a soul_n for_o the_o more_o they_o imagine_v to_o gain_v by_o such_o mean_n the_o great_a will_v be_v their_o loss_n and_o they_o the_o far_o off_o from_o what_o they_o so_o seem_v to_o seek_v and_o much_o more_o indispose_v to_o return_v into_o the_o right_a way_n of_o obtain_v it_o for_o thereby_o the_o mind_n will_v be_v oft_o and_o high_o lift_v up_o as_o if_o it_o be_v in_o a_o happy_a estate_n and_o condition_n more_o holy_a virtuous_a and_o better_a than_o other_o and_o to_o rejoice_v as_o if_o they_o have_v escape_v a_o very_a great_a temptation_n and_o to_o conceive_v angry_a stir_n in_o themselves_o when_o other_o seem_v not_o so_o to_o esteem_v of_o they_o and_o the_o flatter_a spirit_n will_v sudden_o praise_v and_o applaud_v such_o as_o for_o good_a deed_n and_o virtuous_a live_n and_o this_o last_o be_v the_o sore_a and_o great_a of_o all_o temptation_n and_o most_o dangerous_a because_o of_o the_o delight_n man_n will_v seem_v to_o feel_v about_o they_o by_o such_o sound_n to_o the_o ear_n and_o sweet_a savour_n of_o sense_n tickle_v they_o with_o delight_n therein_o as_o if_o all_o be_v well_o and_o they_o have_v much_o grace_n and_o be_v right_o travel_v with_o their_o mind_n from_o fleshly_a thing_n while_o they_o be_v only_o ravish_v with_o spiritual_a pride_n wherein_o the_o vain_a love_n and_o self-conceit_n pray_v weep_v speak_v and_o thank_v god_n with_o the_o pharisee_fw-mi while_o they_o know_v not_o god_n but_o their_o proud_a heart_n deceive_v they_o and_o lead_v they_o to_o show_v outward_a love_n and_o meekness_n in_o speech_n and_o gesture_n as_o if_o they_o be_v spiritual_o virtuous_a and_o that_o they_o dislike_v nothing_o but_o sin_n only_o because_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n and_o yet_o be_v even_o then_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o spiritual_a death_n so_o puff_v up_o with_o pride_n and_o pleasure_n therein_o as_o that_o they_o be_v even_o dead_a while_o they_o live_v or_o rather_o twice_o dead_a and_o pluck_v up_o the_o root_n become_v servant_n to_o man_n and_o time_n mistake_v one_o thing_n for_o another_o with_o their_o fleshly_a heart_n get_v aloft_o and_o puff_v up_o rest_v in_o the_o root_n and_o rottenness_n of_o sin_n black_a and_o thick_a darkness_n fill_v their_o soul_n which_o may_v be_v hide_v from_o some_o man_n yet_o christ_n jesus_n see_v it_o and_o abhor_v it_o and_o their_o service_n because_o of_o their_o hypocrisy_n and_o heresy_n so_o accompany_v with_o bodily_a and_o spiritual_a pride_n which_o be_v never_o learn_v of_o christ_n as_o their_o god_n for_o man_n make_v any_o thing_n his_o god_n that_o his_o heart_n be_v in_o love_n with_o that_o he_o take_v content_a in_o dare_v sin_n against_o god_n for_o or_o wrong_v any_o man_n by_o and_o so_o such_o man_n have_v their_o divers_a kind_n of_o idol-god_n one_o his_o belly_n another_o the_o applause_n of_o man_n a_o three_o his_o opinion_n and_o word_n hear_v or_o speak_v wherein_o such_o serve_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o their_o own_o lustful_a mind_n and_o every_o other_o thing_n that_o a_o man_n choose_v by_o his_o own_o act_n to_o take_v pleasure_n in_o be_v his_o god_n and_o then_o when_o god_n stir_v up_o such_o soul_n to_o obedience_n and_o give_v they_o suitable_a ability_n these_o proud_a heart_n resist_v all_o and_o in_o stead_n of_o obedience_n become_v rebellious_a heady_a harsh_a and_o high-minded_a abuse_v the_o tender_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n in_o the_o light_n of_o his_o spiritual_a leading_n to_o repentance_n and_o this_o condition_n be_v as_o aforesaid_a the_o more_o desperate_a because_o therein_o such_o conclude_v that_o all_o be_v well_o and_o sound_n and_o that_o they_o be_v right_a sure_a and_o righteous_a even_o above_o any_o ordinary_a pharisee_n and_o so_o arrogate_v to_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o hear_v and_o consider_v thou_o that_o think_v thou_o stand_v that_o suppose_v thou_o be_v raise_v from_o death_n to_o life_n have_v taste_v of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o bear_v it_o may_v be_v some_o affliction_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o false_a liberty_n for_o than_o will_v satan_n try_v and_o winnow_v thou_o and_o be_v teach_v thou_o as_o aforesaid_a or_o as_o sometime_o he_o will_v have_v do_v jesus_n christ_n to_o cast_v himself_o down_o to_o turn_v stone_n into_o
bread_n etc._n etc._n and_o full_a many_o have_v so_o fall_v by_o his_o mean_n into_o this_o high_a spiritual_a pride_n and_o think_v that_o therein_o they_o have_v do_v god_n service_n and_o unless_o the_o soul_n be_v root_v and_o ground_v in_o love_n and_o so_o in_o meekness_n with_o a_o spiritual_a feel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o god_n equal_a with_o the_o father_n it_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o yield_v to_o such_o transforming_n and_o to_o ask_v as_o the_o disciple_n sometime_o do_v who_o shall_v be_v great_a and_o so_o may_v soon_o depart_v from_o the_o simple_a and_o pure_a life_n and_o loose_v their_o hold_n of_o that_o which_o lead_v the_o humble_a and_o meek_a to_o perfection_n and_o therefore_o what_o great_a care_n wait_v and_o diligence_n yea_o what_o faithfulness_n be_v requisite_a in_o keep_v in_o the_o light_n that_o will_v let_v man_n see_v the_o deceit_n and_o lead_v they_o in_o the_o way_n to_o escape_v the_o evil_a thereof_o for_o as_o we_o read_v the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v tempt_v but_o be_v not_o overcome_v because_o the_o devil_n find_v nothing_o in_o he_o whereto_o he_o may_v fasten_v the_o temptation_n and_o this_o be_v of_o experience_n and_o advisement_n to_o all_o willing_a soul_n that_o when_o tentation_n come_v and_o move_v to_o fleshly_a love_n and_o like_n of_o earthly_a thing_n heed_v they_o not_o consider_v they_o not_o whether_o it_o concern_v outward_a profit_n or_o loss_n scorn_v or_o despise_v frown_a or_o flatter_v for_o if_o the_o devil_n by_o himself_o or_o mean_n of_o his_o instrument_n prevail_v with_o thou_o to_o consider_v it_o thou_o be_v then_o thereby_o more_o than_o half_o overcome_v because_o the_o same_o nature_n in_o thou_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o join_v with_o it_o and_o the_o great_a danger_n be_v lest_o thou_o shall_v like_v it_o or_o be_v afraid_a of_o it_o and_o so_o be_v overcome_v by_o it_o therefore_o keep_v within_o in_o the_o light_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v able_a to_o say_v to_o thyself_o in_o that_o case_n i_o have_v choose_v my_o way_n my_o part_n my_o portion_n be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n he_o i_o love_v in_o he_o i_o have_v righteousness_n and_o strength_n in_o he_o i_o rejoice_v and_o enjoy_v all_o thing_n and_o nothing_o will_v i_o have_v out_o of_o he_o for_o he_o accept_v i_o as_o worthy_a to_o love_v he_o etc._n etc._n and_o be_v sure_a to_o be_v bold_a and_o clear_a therein_o and_o then_o shall_v thou_o find_v thy_o enemy_n less_o bold_a against_o thou_o for_o truth_n never_o suffer_v more_o than_o when_o it_o be_v cold_o and_o faint_o own_v though_o these_o enemy_n will_v be_v still_o strive_v against_o thou_o and_o tell_v thou_o of_o danger_n and_o perilous_a thing_n to_o befall_v thou_o in_o that_o way_n and_o set_v themselves_o to_o hinder_v thou_o attend_v faithful_o thou_o will_v find_v and_o know_v that_o god_n forsake_v no_o man_n in_o such_o tentation_n unless_o it_o shall_v be_v to_o increase_v their_o spiritual_a strength_n if_o they_o suffer_v a_o while_n patient_o and_o not_o turn_v to_o folly_n that_o they_o may_v find_v jesus_n christ_n the_o sweet_a and_o ready_a way_n full_a of_o spiritual_a refreshment_n and_o minister_n without_o hee_v or_o rather_o with_o despise_v such_o tentation_n set_v they_o at_o nought_o etc._n etc._n but_o if_o any_o shall_v strive_v with_o his_o thought_n and_o bodily_a wit_n to_o drive_v away_o tentation_n and_o put_v they_o out_o as_o by_o mastery_n thereby_o will_v the_o enemy_n get_v advantage_n and_o overcome_v and_o therefore_o as_o before_o so_o i_o say_v again_o ever_o withdraw_v thy_o thought_n from_o the_o tentation_n into_o the_o light_n of_o jesus_n christ_n where_o the_o strive_v and_o life_n of_o strength_n lie_v and_o wait_v on_o he_o for_o deliverance_n and_o victory_n and_o also_o beware_v thou_o never_o show_v such_o temptation_n to_o any_o worldly_a man_n though_o repute_v never_o so_o wise_a learned_a or_o religious_a that_o have_v not_o feel_v way_n thereto_o as_o it_o be_v thereby_o block_v up_o for_o in_o man_n conversion_n before_o reason_n be_v turn_v into_o light_n and_o will_v into_o love_n and_o the_o soul_n come_v into_o a_o wait_a
