5._o but_o also_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o the_o phrase_n be_v here_o so_o intend_v for_o his_o scope_n be_v to_o comfort_v they_o against_o what_o will_v pull_v from_o they_o their_o profession_n as_o that_o foregoing_a exhortation_n let_v us_o hold_v fast_o our_o profession_n imply_v now_o that_o which_o attempt_v to_o pull_v it_o from_o they_o be_v their_o persecution_n and_o opposition_n as_o we_o be_v and_o that_o by_o infirmity_n sin_n be_v main_o here_o intend_v be_v yet_o more_o evident_a from_o the_o remedy_n propound_v against_o they_o which_o they_o be_v here_o encourage_v to_o seek_v for_o at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n namely_o grace_n and_o mercy_n therefore_o let_v we_o come_v bold_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v find_v grace_v and_o mercy_n to_o help_v in_o time_n of_o need_n so_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o next_o word_n grace_n to_o help_v against_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n and_o mercy_n against_o the_o guilt_n and_o punishment_n of_o it_o both_o which_o be_v the_o great_a discourager_n to_o come_v bold_o to_o that_o throne_n and_o therefore_o he_o must_v needs_o intend_v those_o kind_n of_o infirmity_n chief_o in_o this_o his_o encouragement_n and_o comfortory_n give_v now_o second_o for_o a_o support_n against_o both_o these_o he_o let_v we_o understand_v how_o feel_o and_o sensible_o affect_v the_o heart_n of_o christ_n be_v to_o sinner_n under_o all_o these_o their_o infirmity_n now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n for_o of_o he_o advance_v into_o heaven_n he_o here_o speak_v as_o appear_v by_o ver_fw-la 14._o and_o if_o the_o coherence_n with_o that_o verse_n be_v observe_v we_o shall_v see_v that_o he_o bring_v in_o this_o narration_n of_o it_o set_o by_o way_n of_o prevent_v a_o objection_n which_o may_v that_o therefore_o he_o can_v now_o pity_v we_o as_o he_o do_v when_o he_o dwell_v among_o we_o here_o below_o nor_o be_v so_o feel_o affect_v and_o touch_v with_o our_o misery_n as_o to_o be_v tender_o move_v to_o compassionate_a and_o commiserate_v we_o so_o he_o be_v not_o now_o capable_a of_o a_o feel_n of_o grief_n and_o so_o not_o of_o a_o fellow-feeling_n or_o sympathize_v with_o we_o condition_n in_o glorify_v his_o humane_a nature_n which_o be_v it_o never_o so_o free_a from_o fleshly_a passion_n and_o in_o stead_n of_o flesh_n be_v make_v like_o heaven_n let_v he_o be_v never_o so_o incapable_a of_o impression_n from_o below_o yet_o he_o retain_v one_o tender_a part_n and_o bare_a place_n in_o his_o heart_n still_o unarm_v as_o it_o be_v even_o to_o suffer_v with_o you_o that_o this_o be_v his_o power_n and_o a_o perfection_n and_o strength_n of_o love_n sure_o in_o he_o as_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d import_v that_o be_v that_o make_v he_o thus_o able_a and_o powerful_a to_o take_v our_o misery_n into_o his_o heart_n though_o glorify_v and_o so_o to_o be_v affect_v with_o they_o as_o if_o he_o suffer_v with_o we_o and_o so_o to_o relieve_v we_o out_o of_o that_o principle_n out_o of_o which_o he_o will_v relieve_v himself_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o this_o text_n give_v i_o occasion_n to_o take_v notice_n of_o and_o apart_o to_o handle_v first_o more_o general_o that_o christ_n heart_n now_o in_o heaven_n be_v as_o gracious_o affect_v unto_o sinner_n as_o ever_o it_o be_v on_o earth_n and_o second_o more_o particular_o the_o manner_n how_o or_o thus_o 1._o that_o he_o be_v touch_v with_o a_o feel_n or_o sympathize_v with_o we_o as_o the_o word_n be_v 2._o the_o way_n how_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v even_o through_o his_o have_v be_v tempt_v in_o all_o thing_n like_v unto_o we_o in_o handle_v the_o first_o i_o shall_v give_v those_o intrinsical_a demonstration_n of_o it_o that_o remain_v and_o in_o handle_v the_o other_o further_o open_v the_o text._n to_o come_v therefore_o first_o to_o those_o intrinsical_v demonstration_n of_o this_o doctrine_n which_o i_o engraft_v upon_o these_o word_n and_o shoot_v natural_o from_o they_o namely_o
that_o the_o heart_n of_o jesus_n christ_n now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n be_v as_o gracious_o incline_v to_o sinner_n as_o ever_o it_o be_v on_o earth_n §._o 1._o the_o first_o sort_n of_o intrinsical_a demonstration_n draw_v from_o the_o influence_n all_o the_o three_o person_n have_v for_o ever_o into_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o humane_a nature_n of_o christ_n in_o heaven_n the_o first_o sort_n of_o demonstration_n shall_v be_v fetch_v from_o all_o the_o three_o person_n and_o their_o several_a influence_n they_o have_v into_o christ_n heart_n in_o heaven_n to_o incline_v it_o towards_o we_o the_o first_o shall_v be_v take_v from_o god_n his_o father_n who_o have_v thus_o advance_v he_o and_o it_o have_v two_o part_n 1._o that_o god_n have_v give_v a_o perpetual_a command_n to_o christ_n to_o love_v sinner_n 2._o that_o therefore_o his_o heart_n continue_v the_o same_o for_o ever_o for_o the_o first_o god_n the_o father_n have_v give_v jesus_n christ_n a_o special_a command_n to_o love_v sinner_n and_o have_v withal_o implant_v a_o merciful_a gracious_a disposition_n in_o his_o heart_n towards_o they_o this_o i_o mention_v to_o argue_v it_o because_o it_o be_v that_o which_o christ_n allege_v john_n 6._o 37._o as_o the_o original_a ground_n of_o this_o disposition_n of_o he_o not_o to_o cast_v out_o those_o that_o come_v to_o he_o for_o it_o be_v my_o father_n will_v say_v he_o in_o the_o follow_a verse_n that_o i_o shall_v perform_v that_o which_o i_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n for_o ver_fw-la 38._o and_o this_o lie_v now_o still_o upon_o he_o now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n as_o much_o as_o ever_o for_o his_o will_n also_o be_v say_v he_o ver_fw-la 39_o 40._o that_o i_o shall_v raise_v they_o up_o at_o the_o last_o day_n so_o as_o it_o must_v needs_o continue_v the_o same_o till_o then_o and_o compare_v with_o this_o the_o 10._o of_o john_n from_o ver_fw-la 15._o to_o 18._o where_n have_v discourse_v before_o of_o his_o care_n and_o love_n to_o his_o sheep_n to_o give_v his_o life_n for_o they_o to_o know_v and_o own_v they_o and_o to_o bring_v they_o into_o the_o fold_n etc._n etc._n he_o conclude_v at_o ver_fw-la 18._o this_o commandment_n have_v i_o receive_v from_o my_o father_n it_o be_v his_o will_n say_v the_o 6._o of_o john_n and_o if_o a_o good_a son_n know_v that_o a_o thing_n be_v his_o father_n mind_n and_o will_n it_o be_v enough_o to_o move_v he_o to_o do_v it_o much_o more_o if_o it_o be_v his_o express_a command_n and_o in_o this_o 10._o of_o john_n he_o further_o say_v that_o it_o be_v the_o command_n which_o he_o have_v receive_v from_o the_o father_n a_o command_n be_v a_o man_n will_n peremptory_o express_v so_o as_o there_o must_v be_v a_o breach_n if_o it_o be_v not_o fulfil_v and_o such_o a_o command_n have_v god_n give_v christ_n concern_v we_o out_o of_o both_o which_o place_n i_o observe_v three_o thing_n to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o this_o will_n and_o command_v of_o god_n first_o that_o christ_n shall_v die_v for_o his_o sheep_n in_o respect_n to_o which_o command_n he_o continue_v so_o to_o love_v they_o whilst_o here_o as_o to_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o they_o so_o john_n 10._o 15._o but_o then_o he_o take_v it_o up_o again_o and_o be_v ascend_v into_o heaven_n therefore_o those_o other_o two_o thing_n command_v he_o do_v concern_v he_o when_o he_o be_v in_o glory_n namely_o to_o receive_v all_o that_o come_v to_o he_o which_o be_v the_o second_o and_o the_o three_o to_o look_v that_o he_o lose_v none_o of_o those_o for_o who_o he_o die_v but_o to_o raise_v they_o up_o and_o for_o these_o his_o father_n command_n lie_v as_o strict_o on_o he_o now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n as_o for_o die_v for_o they_o whilst_o he_o be_v on_o earth_n this_o command_n have_v i_o receive_v from_o my_o father_n and_o this_o be_v his_o will_n and_o together_o with_o this_o command_n god_n do_v put_v into_o his_o heart_n as_o where_o he_o command_v he_o ever_o use_v to_o do_v such_o a_o instinct_n of_o transcendent_a love_n towards_o they_o as_o shall_v so_o strong_o incline_v he_o to_o perform_v it_o that_o he_o shall_v need_v no_o more_o command_n he_o have_v put_v such_o a_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d such_o a_o especial_a love_n into_o he_o as_o he_o have_v put_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o parent_n towards_o their_o own_o child_n more_o than_o to_o all_o other_o man_n child_n which_o they_o see_v beside_o although_o more_o beautiful_a and_o more_o witty_a than_o their_o own_o and_o both_o this_o commandment_n and_o this_o inclination_n of_o love_n towards_o they_o we_o have_v at_o once_o express_v psal_n 40._o 8._o where_n give_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o become_v our_o mediator_n and_o sacrifice_v himself_o he_o not_o only_o say_v i_o come_v to_o do_v thy_o will_n o_o god_n but_o also_o thy_o law_n be_v in_o my_o bowel_n in_o which_o speech_n both_o these_o two_o be_v mention_v 1._o that_o command_n i_o mention_v 3._o 12._o bowel_n of_o mercy_n kindness_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v no_o other_o than_o that_o law_n of_o love_n mercy_n and_o pity_n to_o poor_a sinner_n which_o god_n give_v he_o in_o charge_n as_o he_o be_v to_o be_v mediator_n it_o be_v that_o special_a law_n which_o lie_v on_o he_o as_o he_o be_v the_o second_o adam_n like_o that_o which_o be_v give_v to_o the_o first_o adam_n non_fw-la concedendi_fw-la over_o and_o above_o the_o moral_a law_n not_o to_o eat_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n such_o a_o law_n be_v this_o he_o there_o speak_v of_o it_o be_v the_o law_n of_o his_o be_v a_o ten_o commandment_n to_o be_v a_o trial_n a_o sign_n or_o symbol_n of_o his_o obedience_n to_o all_o the_o rest_n such_o be_v this_o law_n give_v unto_o christ_n the_o second_o adam_n so_o as_o that_o god_n will_v judge_v of_o all_o his_o other_o obedience_n unto_o himself_o by_o this_o yea_o it_o be_v lay_v on_o he_o with_o that_o earnestness_n by_o god_n and_o so_o commend_v by_o he_o as_o that_o if_o ever_o christ_n will_v have_v he_o to_o love_v he_o he_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o love_v we_o thus_o in_o that_o place_n forecited_n john_n 10._o 17_o 18._o christ_n comfort_v himself_o with_o this_o in_o his_o obedience_n therefore_o do_v my_o father_n love_v i_o it_o be_v speak_v in_o relation_n unto_o his_o fulfil_n this_o his_o command_n former_o mention_v and_o so_o withal_o import_v branch_n of_o this_o demonstration_n namely_o that_o that_o love_n which_o christ_n when_o on_o earth_n express_v to_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n and_o which_o make_v he_o die_v for_o sinner_n upon_o this_o command_n of_o his_o father_n that_o it_o do_v certain_o continue_v in_o his_o heart_n still_o now_o that_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o that_o as_o quick_a and_o as_o tender_a as_o ever_o it_o be_v on_o earth_n even_o as_o when_o he_o be_v on_o the_o cross_n &_o
more_fw-it full_o then_o for_o they_o and_o his_o share_n of_o glory_n out_o of_o they_o be_v great_a than_o they_o by_o how_o much_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o cause_n be_v great_a than_o that_o of_o the_o effect_n and_o thus_o indeed_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o it_o as_o whilst_o it_o call_v the_o saint_n the_o glory_n of_o christ_n so_o 2_o cor._n 8._o 23._o and_o christ_n in_o john_n 17._o 13._o and_o ver_fw-la 22_o 23._o say_v that_o he_o be_v glorify_v in_o they_o and_o psal_n 45._o where_o christ_n be_v set_v forth_o as_o solomon_n in_o all_o his_o royalty_n and_o majesty_n yet_o for_o 11._o he_o be_v say_v great_o to_o desire_v or_o delight_n in_o the_o beauty_n of_o his_o queen_n that_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o saint_n and_o that_o not_o with_o a_o ordinary_a delight_n but_o he_o great_o desire_v his_o desire_n be_v increase_v as_o her_o beauty_n be_v for_o that_o be_v there_o bring_v in_o as_o a_o motive_n unto_o she_o to_o be_v more_o holy_a and_o conform_v unto_o he_o to_o incline_v her_o care_n and_o forsake_v her_o father_n house_n v._o 10._o so_o shall_v the_o king_n great_o desire_v thy_o beauty_n christ_n have_v a_o beauty_n that_o please_v he_o as_o well_o as_o we_o have_v though_o of_o another_o kind_n and_o therefore_o cease_v not_o till_o he_o have_v get_v out_o every_o spot_n &_o wrinkle_n out_o of_o his_o spouse_n face_n as_o we_o hear_v the_o apostle_n speak_v even_o now_o so_o to_o present_v her_o glorious_a unto_o himself_o that_o be_v delightful_a and_o please_a in_o his_o eye_n and_o suitable_o unto_o this_o to_o confirm_v we_o yet_o more_o in_o it_o christ_n in_o that_o sermon_n which_o be_v his_o solemn_a farewell_n before_o his_o go_v to_o heaven_n assure_v his_o disciple_n that_o his_o heart_n will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v wean_v from_o they_o that_o his_o joy_n will_v still_o be_v in_o they_o to_o see_v they_o prosper_v and_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n so_o john_n 15._o 9_o 10_o 11._o where_o his_o scope_n be_v to_o assure_v they_o of_o the_o continuance_n of_o his_o love_n unto_o they_o when_o he_o shall_v be_v go_v so_o for_o 9_o 10._o as_o my_o father_n have_v love_v i_o so_o have_v i_o love_v you_o continue_v in_o my_o love_n etc._n etc._n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v fear_v not_o you_o my_o love_n nor_o the_o continuance_n of_o it_o in_o my_o absence_n but_o look_v you_o to_o do_v your_o duty_n in_o you_o and_o that_o your_o joy_n may_v be_v full_a he_o speak_v just_a like_o a_o father_n that_o be_v take_v his_o leave_n of_o his_o child_n and_o comfort_v they_o at_o his_o departure_n and_o give_v they_o good_a counsel_n to_o take_v good_a course_n when_o he_o be_v go_v from_o they_o to_o keep_v his_o commandment_n and_o to_o love_v one_o another_o so_o ver_fw-la 10_o &_o 12._o and_o joy_n they_o have_v to_o live_v upon_o in_o this_o world_n but_o only_o the_o fruit_n of_o their_o ministry_n appear_v in_o the_o grace_n both_o of_o the_o life_n and_o heart_n of_o such_o as_o they_o have_v beget_v unto_o christ_n see_v how_o paul_n utter_v himself_o 1_o thes_n 2._o 19_o what_o be_v our_o hope_n say_v he_o or_o joy_n or_o crown_v of_o rejoice_v you_o be_v our_o glory_n and_o our_o joy_n ver_fw-la 20._o and_o in_o the_o 3._o epist_n of_o john_n ver_fw-la 3._o john_n say_v the_o like_a that_o he_o great_o rejoice_v of_o that_o good_a testimony_n he_o have_v hear_v of_o gaius_n requisite_a in_o our_o highpriest_n to_o qualify_v he_o the_o better_a for_o mercy_n and_o bowel_n and_o also_o one_o of_o those_o great_a end_n which_o god_n have_v in_o that_o assumption_n of_o our_o nature_n first_o a_o requisite_a on_o purpose_n to_o make_v he_o the_o more_o merciful_a so_o heb._n 5._o 1._o the_o place_n even_o
more_o like_a to_o these_o of_o we_o then_o those_o be_v which_o the_o angel_n have_v so_o then_o by_o these_o two_o step_n we_o have_v gain_v these_o two_o thing_n that_o even_o in_o christ_n it_o be_v speak_v of_o that_o nature_n wherein_o he_o once_o be_v tempt_v as_o we_o now_o be_v so_o express_o in_o the_o next_o word_n which_o can_v be_v mean_v of_o no_o other_o than_o his_o humane_a nature_n and_o second_o that_o those_o kind_n of_o expression_n which_o be_v use_v of_o god_n before_o the_o assumption_n of_o our_o nature_n only_o in_o a_o way_n of_o metaphor_n and_o similitude_n after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n shall_v in_o no_o further_a or_o more_o real_a and_o proper_a sense_n be_v speak_v of_o christ_n and_o his_o humane_a nature_n now_o assume_v &_o when_o he_o be_v a_o man_n as_o true_o and_o proper_o as_o we_o be_v i_o can_v imagine_v when_o i_o consider_v and_o remember_v that_o which_o i_o last_o insist_v on_o that_o one_o end_n of_o christ_n take_v a_o humane_a nature_n be_v that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o merciful_a highpriest_n for_o ever_o in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o he_o be_v god_n alone_o can_v not_o have_v be_v i_o confess_v i_o have_v often_o wonder_v at_o that_o expression_n there_o use_v heb._n 2._o he_o take_v the_o seed_n of_o abraham_n that_o he_o may_v he_o make_v a_o merciful_a high-priest_n which_o at_o the_o first_o read_v sounded_z as_o if_o contribute_v this_o to_o the_o clear_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o hand_n that_o whereas_o god_n of_o himself_o be_v so_o bless_v and_o perfect_a that_o his_o blessedness_n can_v not_o have_v be_v touch_v with_o the_o least_o feeling_n of_o our_o infirmity_n neither_o be_v he_o in_o himself_o capable_a of_o any_o such_o affection_n of_o pity_n or_o compassion_n he_o be_v not_o as_o a_o man_n that_o he_o shall_v pity_v or_o repent_v etc._n etc._n he_o can_v indeed_o do_v that_o for_o we_o in_o our_o distress_n which_o a_o man_n that_o pity_v we_o use_v to_o do_v but_o the_o affection_n and_o bowel_n themselves_o he_o be_v not_o capable_a of_o hence_o therefore_o among_o other_o end_n of_o assume_v man_n nature_n this_o fell_a in_o before_o god_n as_o one_o that_o god_n may_v thereby_o and_o this_o be_v the_o first_o step_n towards_o the_o understanding_n of_o what_o be_v here_o say_v of_o christ_n take_v from_o this_o comparison_n with_o the_o like_a attribute_v unto_o god_n himself_o a_o second_o and_o further_a step_n to_o let_v in_o our_o understanding_n to_o the_o apprehension_n of_o this_o be_v by_o the_o like_o further_a comparison_n to_o be_v make_v with_o the_o angel_n and_o those_o affection_n of_o love_n and_o pity_n that_o be_v certain_o find_v in_o they_o in_o comparison_n of_o which_o these_o affection_n in_o christ_n humane_a nature_n though_o glorify_v must_v needs_o be_v far_o more_o like_a to_o we_o even_o more_o tender_a and_o more_o humane_a for_o in_o that_o heb._n 2._o it_o be_v express_o say_v he_o therefore_o take_v not_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o angel_n that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o merciful_a highpriest_n part_v of_o the_o intendment_n of_o those_o word_n be_v to_o show_v and_o give_v the_o reason_n not_o only_o why_o he_o take_v our_o nature_n under_o frail_a flesh_n though_o that_o the_o apostle_n mention_n ver_fw-la 14._o but_o why_o a_o humane_a nature_n for_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o and_o not_o the_o nature_n of_o angel_n because_o in_o his_o affection_n of_o mercy_n he_o will_v for_o ever_o come_v near_o to_o we_o and_o have_v such_o affection_n and_o of_o the_o same_o kind_n with_o we_o whereas_o otherwise_o in_o other_o respect_n a_o angel_n will_v have_v be_v a_o high_a and_o more_o glorious_a highpriest_n than_o a_o man_n now_o the_o angel_n be_v fellow-servant_n with_o we_o as_o the_o angel_n call_v himself_o rev._n 22._o 9_o they_o have_v affection_n towards_o we_o more_o assimilated_a unto_o we_o then_o god_n have_v and_o so_o be_v more_o capable_a of_o such_o impression_n from_o spiritual_a and_o the_o spirit_n or_o soul_n be_v the_o seat_n of_o they_o they_o must_v needs_o be_v find_v in_o the_o good_a angel_n but_o christ_n have_v a_o humane_a nature_n the_o same_o for_o substance_n that_o we_o be_v consist_v both_o of_o soul_n and_o body_n although_o through_o glory_n make_v spiritual_a yet_o not_o become_v a_o spirit_n a_o spirit_n have_v not_o flesh_n and_o bone_n
