that_o sin_n and_o self_n that_o do_v so_o defile_v it_o and_o likewise_o this_o faith_n do_v so_o clear_o carry_v out_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o desire_n of_o thing_n create_v that_o it_o stand_v in_o opposition_n against_o they_o when_o they_o pierce_v or_o present_v themselves_o into_o the_o soul_n likewise_o by_o the_o power_n of_o this_o faith_n man_n be_v make_v to_o see_v the_o emptiness_n of_o all_o form_n and_o duty_n the_o which_o it_o have_v so_o much_o dote_v on_o before_o and_o likewise_o it_o make_v the_o soul_n true_o know_v wherein_o its_o true_a life_n consist_v and_o nothing_o be_v desire_v in_o comparison_n of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o true_a life_n thereof_o from_o whence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o this_o soul_n stand_v at_o variance_n with_o every_o thing_n which_o keep_v it_o back_o from_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o its_o life_n and_o in_o this_o manner_n the_o axe_n be_v lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n viz._n the_o sharp_a cut_a part_n or_o the_o law_n in_o its_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a requiring_n whereby_o the_o bowl_n of_o sin_n become_v cut_v down_o viz._n the_o strength_n of_o desire_n love_n care_n or_o fear_v of_o or_o to_o any_o thing_n below_o the_o love_n and_o life_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n become_v cut_v down_o and_o cast_v into_o the_o fire_n viz._n into_o the_o anger_n of_o god_n by_o which_o they_o become_v burn_v and_o consume_v but_o yet_o it_o can_v be_v true_o say_v that_o anger_n be_v in_o god_n whereby_o he_o can_v be_v make_v to_o change_v or_o to_o suffer_v for_o anger_n and_o love_n be_v both_o the_o same_o in_o the_o essence_n of_o god_n and_o that_o which_o be_v love_n in_o god_n the_o same_o be_v anger_n in_o we_o and_o it_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o make_v we_o feel_v his_o anger_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o sin_n that_o the_o love_n meet_v with_o in_o we_o and_o so_o by_o reason_n of_o that_o love_n of_o god_n in_o we_o and_o that_o sin_n it_o meet_v with_o in_o we_o the_o suffering_n be_v produce_v which_o we_o feel_v and_o that_o suffering_n be_v call_v the_o anger_n of_o god_n and_o thus_o we_o be_v right_o to_o judge_v of_o the_o anger_n of_o god_n but_o now_o the_o soul_n be_v bring_v into_o this_o suffer_a way_n or_o plunge_a condition_n under_o the_o baptism_n of_o john_n or_o spiritual_a cut_n of_o the_o law_n wherein_o the_o abomination_n that_o make_v desolate_a begin_v to_o appear_v then_o grow_v such_o a_o soul_n to_o sink_v down_o into_o great_a humility_n and_o in_o patience_n wait_v for_o the_o appear_v of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n who_o must_v in_o the_o manifest_v of_o his_o name_n restore_v peace_n and_o give_v comfort_n and_o deliver_v the_o soul_n out_o of_o that_o great_a desolation_n make_v in_o it_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o great_a abomination_n and_o so_o it_o be_v that_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v right_o prepare_v by_o the_o second_o baptism_n of_o john_n then_o in_o his_o own_o time_n and_o place_n the_o name_n of_o the_o son_n become_v manifest_v in_o that_o soul_n and_o the_o lord_n who_o it_o have_v seek_v do_v come_v into_o his_o temple_n mal._n 3.2_o and_o then_o it_o be_v that_o the_o virtue_n those_o lust_n that_o lead_v it_o captive_n be_v become_v captive_v and_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n be_v dissipate_v and_o the_o garment_n of_o mourning_n be_v cast_v off_o and_o the_o soul_n clothe_v in_o the_o garment_n of_o praise_n and_o then_o the_o soul_n can_v rejoice_v and_o right_o sing_v haleluia_o to_o he_o that_o have_v do_v these_o thing_n for_o it_o and_o thus_o it_o be_v that_o god_n in_o the_o second_o appearance_n in_o the_o distinct_a property_n become_v to_o be_v know_v in_o a_o more_o sweet_a and_o love_v and_o peaceable_a manner_n than_o he_o be_v know_v in_o the_o first_o name_n before_o the_o godhead_n have_v divide_v itself_o as_o be_v before_o say_v and_o thus_o moses_n in_o the_o first_o dispensation_n under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n by_o his_o learn_v be_v to_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o apply_v his_o suffering_n and_o not_o to_o follow_v his_o suffering_n yea_o &_o that_o be_v a_o very_a cunning_a easy_a way_n for_o by_o that_o way_n you_o can_v close_v with_o christ_n in_o what_o he_o suffer_v himself_o and_o by_o a_o historical_a faith_n can_v believe_v that_o what_o he_o suffer_v be_v for_o you_o and_o by_o that_o false_a faith_n can_v apply_v christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o propitiation_n and_o yet_o forsake_v he_o in_o the_o way_n of_o imitation_n and_o i_o promise_v you_o this_o be_v a_o handsome_a way_n if_o it_o be_v a_o sure_a way_n for_o hereby_o god_n and_o the_o world_n christ_n and_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n may_v stand_v all_o in_o one_o soul_n and_o i_o wish_v you_o be_v not_o cozen_v in_o this_o very_a point_n and_o i_o assure_v you_o that_o if_o you_o have_v not_o follow_v christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o cross_n in_o the_o daily_o deny_v of_o yourselves_o both_o inward_o and_o outward_o by_o that_o faith_n you_o have_v get_v whereby_o you_o apply_v christ_n in_o his_o suffering_n you_o will_v be_v beguile_v one_o day_n for_o that_o faith_n be_v but_o that_o which_o draw_v you_o into_o duty_n and_o kirk-fellowship_n and_o not_o into_o the_o fellowship_n of_o christ_n and_o herein_o you_o may_v prove_v the_o enemy_n both_o of_o christ_n and_o his_o cross_n but_o let_v i_o call_v to_o your_o remembrance_n another_o old_a say_n out_o of_o date_n or_o at_o leastwise_o out_o of_o request_n and_o so_o but_o little_o heed_v and_o yet_o it_o shall_v be_v one_o of_o he_o who_o be_v a_o by_o which_o he_o be_v to_o have_v the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o selfnesse_n destroy_v that_o thereby_o he_o may_v live_v in_o the_o lovely_a fellowship_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o this_o he_o aim_v at_o and_o wish_v those_o who_o be_v of_o the_o same_o spirit_n with_o he_o that_o they_o shall_v all_o mind_n the_o same_o thing_n and_o walk_v by_o the_o same_o rule_n and_o follow_v he_o as_o he_o follow_v christ_n and_o then_o in_o pity_n and_o tenderheartedness_n and_o weep_v he_o tell_v they_o of_o those_o who_o be_v the_o enemy_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o paint_v they_o out_o in_o their_o right_a colour_n and_o give_v they_o their_o portion_n in_o the_o first_o place_n set_v the_o effect_n before_o the_o cause_n vid._n destruction_n and_o then_o set_v a_o threefold_a character_n upon_o they_o as_o the_o cause_n of_o their_o destruction_n viz._n who_o belly_n be_v their_o god_n who_o glory_n in_o their_o shame_n who_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n phil._n that_o foolish_a act_n yet_o every_o one_o can_v excuse_v himself_o and_o think_v it_o may_v belong_v to_o some_o other_o but_o mark_v well_o what_o shall_v be_v say_v and_o see_v which_o of_o you_o can_v excuse_v himself_o when_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o say_n be_v open_v well_o what_o be_v god_n he_o be_v the_o chief_a delight_n and_o chief_a treasure_n and_o those_o that_o know_v he_o do_v choose_v he_o so_o and_o he_o be_v their_o chief_a delight_n and_o chief_a treasure_n and_o so_o their_o heart_n be_v with_o he_o and_o all_o its_o affection_n in_o seek_v love_a fear_v and_o desire_v etc._n etc._n and_o to_o witness_v this_o truth_n our_o saviour_n say_v where_o your_o

treasure_n be_v there_o will_v your_o heart_n be_v also_o and_o the_o heart_n can_v no_o way_n be_v discover_v but_o by_o its_o effect_n viz._n inclination_n thought_n fear_n care_n love_n and_o desire_n etc._n etc._n then_o consider_v whether_o god_n or_o your_o belly_n be_v your_o god_n or_o chief_a treasure_n and_o whether_o you_o own_o and_o worship_n more_o with_o your_o heart_n and_o your_o affection_n if_o god_n be_v your_o god_n and_o chief_a treasure_n than_o your_o heart_n with_o its_o affection_n be_v in_o he_o and_o with_o he_o all_o the_o day_n long_o and_o be_v worship_v he_o either_o in_o prayer_n or_o praise_n and_o all_o your_o thought_n take_v up_o with_o thing_n of_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n be_v but_o a_o great_a vexation_n to_o your_o spirit_n and_o you_o look_v but_o upon_o they_o but_o as_o they_o serve_v for_o your_o mere_a necessity_n and_o though_o it_o be_v mere_a necessity_n in_o respect_n of_o your_o frail_a body_n yet_o even_o to_o have_v your_o thought_n draw_v out_o of_o god_n if_o never_o so_o little_a yet_o this_o be_v a_o detriment_n and_o trouble_n to_o your_o spirit_n because_o these_o thought_n do_v somewhat_o pierce_v between_o you_o and_o your_o god_n so_o that_o your_o whole_a conversation_n can_v be_v in_o heaven_n this_o i_o know_v will_v be_v no_o little_a trouble_n to_o you_o if_o god_n be_v your_o god_n and_o the_o apostle_n who_o worship_v god_n and_o have_v choose_v he_o to_o be_v the_o chief_a treasure_n say_v that_o both_o he_o and_o his_o upright_a follower_n have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n phil._n 3.20_o and_o those_o to_o who_o he_o have_v preach_v christ_n and_o his_o cross_n and_o the_o rise_n again_o with_o he_o lest_o they_o shall_v learn_v the_o same_o by_o which_o they_o shall_v be_v in_o danger_n to_o be_v pull_v from_o the_o true_a god_n and_o therefore_o he_o bid_v they_o cleave_v to_o he_o and_o the_o apostle_n who_o have_v choose_v god_n for_o
