therefore_o do_v the_o law_n creep_v in_o and_o lay_v open_a the_o secret_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o bring_v to_o light_n our_o sin_n and_o corruption_n before_o the_o law_n say_v the_o apostle_n although_o sin_n be_v in_o the_o world_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o impute_v the_o same_o apostle_n also_o say_v the_o law_n work_v wrath_n for_o where_o there_o be_v no_o law_n there_o be_v no_o transgression_n and_o again_o by_o the_o law_n come_v the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n for_o in_o the_o 7._o to_o the_o roman_n the_o same_o apostle_n do_v say_v more_o full_o i_o know_v not_o sin_n but_o by_o the_o law_n for_o i_o have_v not_o know_v lust_n except_o the_o law_n have_v say_v thou_o shall_v not_o lust_n but_o sin_n take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n wrought_v in_o i_o all_o manner_n of_o concupiscence_n for_o without_o the_o law_n sin_n be_v dead_a i_o once_o live_v without_o law_n but_o when_o the_o commandment_n come_v sin_n revive_v and_o i_o be_v dead_a and_o it_o for_o those_o which_o stay_n here_o and_o go_v no_o further_o to_o make_v any_o other_o use_n kill_v and_o effect_n of_o the_o law_n but_o as_o though_o moses_n do_v nothing_o but_o kill_v &_o the_o law_n nothing_o but_o slay_v they_o be_v diverse_o and_o that_o not_o light_o deceive_v i_o do_v here_o again_o repeat_v it_o and_o tell_v they_o that_o the_o very_a proper_a office_n of_o the_o law_n be_v to_o make_v sin_n manifest_a &_o also_o that_o moses_n his_o chief_a office_n be_v to_o teach_v we_o what_o we_o have_v to_o do_v &_o with_o threaten_n and_o curse_n to_o urge_v it_o especial_o when_o the_o law_n be_v compare_v with_o the_o gospel_n for_o in_o the_o three_o chapter_n of_o the_o 2._o epistle_n 〈◊〉_d to_o the_o corinthian_n paul_n call_v the_o law_n the_o letter_n and_o immediate_o after_o the_o ministration_n of_o death_n than_o again_o he_o call_v it_o a_o doctrine_n write_v in_o letter_n and_o ink_n and_o figure_v in_o table_n of_o stone_n which_o shall_v not_o endure_v but_o perish_v and_o decay_v the_o same_o apostle_n on_o the_o otherside_n again_o do_v call_v the_o gospel_n the_o ministration_n or_o doctrine_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o endure_v &_o decay_v not_o which_o be_v write_v in_o man_n heart_n &_o give_v life_n to_o the_o believer_n
now_o he_o do_v hereby_o give_v we_o a_o proof_n that_o he_o have_v a_o regard_n of_o we_o &_o our_o work_n because_o in_o testify_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o he_o do_v vouchsafe_v so_o to_o honour_v not_o only_o we_o but_o also_o his_o own_o gift_n in_o we_o which_o he_o of_o his_o great_a goodness_n have_v gracious_o be_v stow_v upon_o we_o our_o bountiful_a god_n do_v herein_o imitate_v the_o manner_n of_o deal_v which_o fleshly_a father_n use_v in_o this_o world_n towards_o their_o child_n for_o they_o bestow_v gift_n upon_o their_o child_n as_o reward_n of_o their_o welldoing_a thereby_o provoke_v they_o to_o great_a virtue_n when_o as_o in_o very_a deed_n all_o thing_n belong_v to_o the_o child_n by_o right_a of_o inheritance_n and_o the_o true_a and_o proper_a cause_n of_o this_o reward_n which_o the_o father_n give_v to_o the_o child_n be_v not_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o son_n but_o the_o mere_a good_a will_n and_o favour_n of_o the_o father_n moreover_o herein_o be_v two_o thing_n to_o be_v observe_v first_o although_o god_n do_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n allure_v 1_o we_o with_o reward_n draw_v we_o on_o with_o gift_n and_o keep_v we_o in_o good_a work_n with_o manifold_a recompense_n yet_o must_v not_o the_o reward_n or_o recompense_n be_v the_o mark_n where_o at_o the_o worker_n ought_v to_o look_v respect_v rather_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o commodity_n than_o the_o love_n &_o honour_n that_o he_o owe_v to_o god_n god_n will_v be_v worship_v for_o love_n sake_n only_o and_o he_o will_v be_v love_v of_o mere_a goodwill_n and_o not_o for_o the_o hope_n of_o any_o reward_n for_o as_o he_o require_v a_o cheerful_a giver_n so_o do_v he_o look_v for_o such_o a_o uncoacted_a affection_n voluntary_a love_n and_o
