speak_v but_o brief_o of_o these_o thing_n yet_o consider_v it_o where_o ever_o there_o be_v faith_n there_o be_v a_o victory_n over_o the_o world_n before_o there_o be_v faith_n there_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o slave_n to_o the_o world_n but_o if_o once_o there_o be_v faith_n he_o be_v more_o than_o conqueror_n he_o be_v not_o the_o world_n slave_n but_o the_o world_n be_v he_o the_o world_n be_v so_o make_v use_n of_o the_o point_n the_o first_o thing_n to_o which_o the_o lord_n christ_n bequeath_v himself_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o believer_n it_o be_v for_o to_o be_v a_o man_n for_o the_o writing_n and_o where_o ever_o he_o find_v any_o default_n he_o be_v continual_o strive_v to_o mend_v that_o and_o still_o labour_v every_o time_n more_o and_o more_o to_o be_v more_o conformable_a to_o his_o master_n copy_n even_o thus_o where_o ever_o there_o be_v faith_n it_o do_v produce_v hope_n which_o hope_n make_v the_o soul_n continual_o aim_v to_o conform_v itself_o to_o the_o purity_n of_o god_n who_o it_o hope_v full_o to_o enjoy_v and_o that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v mistake_v consider_v thus_o much_o that_o there_o will_v be_v impurity_n in_o the_o heart_n wherein_o there_o be_v faith_n but_o yet_o where_o there_o be_v faith_n there_o be_v a_o continual_a purge_n out_o of_o impurity_n as_o it_o manife_v itself_o you_o may_v conceive_v it_o by_o a_o similitude_n if_o a_o pot_n be_v boil_v upon_o the_o fire_n there_o will_v a_o scum_n arise_v but_o yet_o they_o that_o be_v good_a house_n wife_n and_o clean_o and_o neat_a they_o watch_v it_o and_o as_o the_o scum_n rise_v it_o ey_v the_o soul_n and_o as_o it_o discover_v any_o impurity_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o secret_a or_o never_o so_o small_a though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o agree_v to_o his_o natural_a disposition_n it_o scum_v it_o off_o and_o it_o be_v his_o continual_a work_n and_o desire_v to_o make_v riddance_n of_o any_o corruption_n which_o do_v appear_v here_o be_v the_o first_o property_n whereby_o you_o may_v know_v they_o that_o be_v the_o person_n for_o who_o christ_n give_v himself_o they_o be_v believer_n and_o faith_n purify_v the_o heart_n a_o second_o property_n of_o faith_n lord_n christ_n the_o comfort_n of_o your_o justification_n and_o of_o your_o sanctification_n and_o consequent_o of_o your_o salvation_n you_o can_v but_o want_v comfort_n so_o long_o as_o you_o want_v assure_v evidence_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o grace_n in_o you_o again_o you_o do_v not_o only_o want_v comfort_n but_o you_o be_v disenable_v to_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o growth_n in_o righteousness_n by_o discouragement_n discouragement_n be_v to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n as_o the_o cold_a wind_n and_o frost_n be_v to_o young_a bud_n and_o whence_o come_v discouragement_n because_o people_n be_v not_o assure_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o their_o grace_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o last_o you_o be_v not_o so_o careful_a and_o thankful_a to_o god_n as_o you_o shall_v only_o because_o you_o be_v not_o root_v in_o the_o certainty_n of_o the_o goodness_n of_o your_o estate_n therefore_o these_o trial_n be_v of_o use_n to_o you_o and_o much_o more_o to_o you_o that_o the_o suffering_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n for_o believer_n and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o christ_n he_o do_v not_o only_o suffer_v in_o body_n but_o he_o also_o suffer_v in_o soul_n you_o may_v gather_v it_o from_o that_o in_o mar._n 14.32_o 33_o 34._o he_o take_v with_o he_o peter_n james_n and_o john_n and_o begin_v to_o be_v sore_o amaze_v and_o to_o be_v very_o heavy_a and_o say_v unto_o they_o my_o soul_n be_v exceed_o sorrowful_a unto_o death_n and_o afterward_o he_o go_v from_o they_o and_o pray_v three_o time_n that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a the_o cup_n may_v be_v to_o bear_v the_o apprehension_n of_o a_o bodily_a death_n and_o shall_v we_o conceive_v christ_n can_v not_o bear_v it_o without_o the_o strengthen_n of_o a_o angel_n these_o thing_n plain_o show_v that_o christ_n do_v not_o only_o give_v himself_o up_o to_o the_o suffering_n of_o bodily_a wrath_n but_o to_o the_o suffering_n of_o soul_n the_o suffering_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o it_o must_v be_v so_o for_o if_o christ_n have_v not_o suffer_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o the_o wrath_n of_o man_n christ_n have_v never_o do_v believer_n any_o good_a at_o all_o for_o the_o same_o nature_n that_o have_v sin_v must_v suffer_v and_o the_o soul_n of_o believer_n sin_v as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n therefore_o the_o soul_n of_o believer_n must_v suffer_v as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v spiritual_a and_o therefore_o reach_v the_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n so_o that_o christ_n can_v never_o have_v be_v a_o ransom_n to_o believer_n from_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n nor_o a_o satisfaction_n to_o his_o justice_n if_o the_o soul_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o suffer_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o his_o body_n the_o wrath_n of_o man_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o second_o thing_n whereto_o christ_n give_v himself_o for_o believer_n and_o that_o be_v to_o the_o suffering_n both_o of_o man_n and_o of_o god_n the_o torture_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o to_o the_o end_n you_o may_v a_o little_a better_o conceive_v it_o consider_v i_o beseech_v you_o what_o the_o torture_n of_o soul_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v that_o christ_n give_v himself_o up_o to_o suffer_v it_o be_v in_o brief_a first_o a_o loss_n in_o regard_n of_o sense_n of_o all_o the_o apprehension_n of_o god_n love_n and_o a_o sensible_a feel_n of_o the_o immortal_a and_o eternal_a and_o infinite_a wrath_n of_o god_n the_o suffer_v of_o god_n wrath_n include_v these_o two_o thing_n a_o privation_n in_o regard_n of_o sense_n of_o all_o the_o of_o favour_n god_n and_o a_o endure_a in_o regard_n of_o sense_n of_o all_o the_o anger_n of_o god_n these_o two_o thing_n do_v christ_n endure_v first_o he_o lose_v in_o regard_n of_o sense_n all_o the_o apprehension_n of_o god_n favour_n he_o have_v not_o the_o least_o apprehension_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n but_o even_o as_o the_o world_n be_v when_o the_o sun_n be_v set_v without_o all_o light_n so_o be_v the_o soul_n of_o christ_n in_o regard_n of_o sense_n without_o all_o love_n without_o all_o favour_n without_o all_o presence_n of_o god_n at_o all_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o in_o regard_n of_o sense_n he_o suffer_v the_o loss_n of_o god_n the_o loss_n of_o his_o love_n and_o favour_n and_o this_o be_v more_o to_o christ_n then_o a_o thousand_o death_n indeed_o christ_n have_v the_o favour_n and_o the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o all_o sense_n of_o it_o be_v perfect_o withdraw_v second_o christ_n also_o suffer_v the_o full_a sense_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n the_o arrow_n of_o the_o divine_a displeasure_n be_v
torment_n of_o hell_n be_v there_o ever_o love_v like_o this_o suppose_v that_o christ_n have_v give_v himself_o to_o die_v ten_o thousand_o time_n over_o and_o over_o again_o a_o bodily_a death_n his_o love_n which_o he_o have_v promise_v unto_o and_o will_v bestow_v on_o those_o who_o love_v he_o as_o for_o all_o thing_n here_o below_o he_o have_v but_o a_o slight_a and_o mean_v and_o base_a esteem_n of_o they_o this_o you_o shall_v see_v apparent_a in_o abraham_n gen._n 15.1_o 2._o fear_v not_o abraham_n say_v god_n i_o be_o thy_o shield_n and_o thy_o exceed_a great_a reward_n what_o go_v childless_a and_o so_o saviourlesse_a as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v you_o see_v how_o abraham_n mouth_n be_v out_o of_o taste_n with_o all_o other_o thing_n how_o he_o can_v relish_v nothing_o enjoy_v nothing_o in_o comparison_n of_o the_o promise_n though_o he_o have_v otherwise_o what_o he_o will_v or_o can_v desire_v thus_o must_v it_o be_v with_o every_o faithful_a man_n that_o soul_n never_o have_v nor_o never_o shall_v have_v christ_n that_o do_v not_o prize_v he_o above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n no_o certain_o a_o faithful_a soul_n breathe_v after_o nothing_o so_o much_o as_o mercy_n in_o christ_n look_v after_o and_o long_v for_o nothing_o so_o much_o as_o the_o assurance_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n though_o all_o the_o comfort_n of_o this_o world_n be_v afford_v a_o faithful_a man_n yet_o still_o he_o will_v plead_v with_o the_o lord_n oh_o lord_n what_o will_v become_v of_o i_o notwithstanding_o all_o this_o so_o long_o as_o my_o soul_n be_v comfortless_a what_o avail_v it_o i_o to_o live_v here_o oh_o thy_o mercy_n oh_o thy_o salvation_n oh_o the_o lord_n christ_n these_o be_v the_o thing_n my_o soul_n breathe_v after_o this_o my_o little_a in_o the_o regard_n and_o esteem_v of_o a_o christian_a man_n if_o he_o have_v they_o he_o see_v god_n in_o they_o if_o he_o want_v they_o he_o be_v never_o a_o whit_n the_o worse_o the_o
