act_n of_o take_v and_o receive_v christ_n to_o be_v we_o so_o a_o gospel-repentance_n be_v not_o that_o main_o whereby_o we_o be_v humble_v because_o we_o receive_v god_n love_n to_o we_o in_o pardon_v but_o principal_o in_o that_o loathe_n of_o ourselves_o to_o obtain_v pardon_n it_o be_v therefore_o great_a ignorance_n in_o that_o author_n in_o his_o treatise_n of_o gospel-repentance_n be_v hereby_o in_o a_o state_n of_o love_n and_o friendship_n he_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n now_o that_o once_o be_v at_o variance_n with_o he_o now_o when_o we_o say_v there_o be_v a_o change_n make_v in_o a_o man_n by_o justification_n it_o be_v not_o mean_v of_o a_o inward_a absolute_a and_o physical_a one_o such_o as_o be_v in_o sanctification_n when_o of_o unholy_a we_o be_v make_v holy_a but_o moral_a and_o relative_a as_o when_o one_o be_v make_v a_o magistrate_n or_o husband_n and_o wife_n partly_o because_o this_o be_v do_v to_o we_o in_o time_n whereas_o immanent_a action_n be_v from_o all_o eternity_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v absurd_a to_o pray_v for_o they_o as_o it_o be_v ridiculous_a for_o a_o man_n to_o pray_v he_o may_v be_v predestinate_v or_o elect_v some_o indeed_o have_v speak_v of_o predestination_n as_o actus_fw-la continuus_fw-la a_o continue_a act_n and_o so_o with_o they_o it_o be_v good_a divinity_n si_fw-mi non_fw-la sis_fw-la praedestinatus_fw-la ora_fw-la ut_fw-la praedestineris_fw-la if_o thou_o be_v not_o predestinate_v pray_v that_o thou_o may_v be_v but_o this_o be_v corrupt_a doctrine_n and_o much_o oppose_v the_o be_v resolve_v first_o when_o this_o woman_n sin_n be_v pardon_v and_o the_o answer_n be_v that_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o she_o repent_v in_o her_o heart_n of_o her_o evil_a way_n and_o believe_v in_o pardon_n of_o sin_n be_v plain_a by_o the_o parable_n he_o bring_v of_o a_o creditor_n who_o forgive_v one_o debtor_n more_o another_o debtor_n less_o hereupon_o our_o saviour_n ask_v the_o pharisee_fw-mi which_o of_o they_o will_v love_v he_o most_o simon_n answer_v i_o suppose_v he_o to_o who_o most_o be_v forgive_v now_o of_o such_o a_o love_n our_o saviour_n speak_v when_o he_o mention_v the_o woman_n which_o be_v clear_o a_o love_n of_o gratitude_n because_o much_o be_v forgive_v not_o a_o antecedent_n love_v of_o merit_n to_o procure_v pardon_n so_o that_o as_o from_o her_o action_n of_o anoint_v and_o wash_v his_o foot_n by_o way_n of_o a_o sign_n or_o effect_n we_o gather_v her_o faith_n and_o love_n of_o christ_n so_o by_o her_o faith_n and_o love_n as_o by_o a_o sign_n and_o effect_n it_o may_v be_v gather_v that_o her_o sin_n be_v forgive_v she_o but_o you_o may_v ask_v how_o can_v she_o come_v to_o know_v her_o sin_n be_v forgive_v before_o christ_n tell_v she_o i_o answer_v by_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n make_v to_o every_o true_a penitent_n and_o believer_n though_o this_o assurance_n of_o she_o be_v imperfect_a and_o therefore_o admit_v of_o further_a degree_n whereas_o then_o all_o this_o repentance_n and_o humiliation_n be_v not_o that_o sin_n may_v be_v forgive_v but_o from_o faith_n that_o they_o be_v forgive_v we_o may_v observe_v this_o that_o the_o sense_n and_o apprehension_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n already_o obtain_v 1._o do_v not_o beget_v carnal_a security_n but_o a_o further_a mollify_a and_o humble_v of_o the_o heart_n the_o scripture_n require_v as_o a_o necessary_a condition_n without_o which_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n can_v be_v obtain_v of_o this_o repentance_n the_o scripture_n for_o the_o most_o part_n speak_v ezek_n 14.18_o 30._o mat._n 3.2_o mark_v 6.12_o luk._n 13.3_o act._n 3.19_o and_o general_o in_o most_o place_n of_o scripture_n in_o the_o second_o place_n there_o be_v a_o humiliation_n of_o heart_n and_o brokenness_n of_o soul_n for_o sin_n arise_v from_o thâ—_n apprehension_n of_o god_n love_n in_o pardon_v whereby_o we_o grieve_v that_o we_o shall_v deal_v so_o unkind_o with_o so_o good_a and_o gracious_a a_o god_n this_o though_o more_o rare_o yet_o be_v sometime_o speak_v of_o in_o scripture_n as_o first_o in_o this_o woman_n who_o out_o of_o the_o apprehension_n of_o god_n love_n in_o pardon_v so_o much_o to_o she_o do_v pour_v out_o her_o soul_n in_o all_o way_n of_o thankfulness_n after_o this_o manner_n also_o be_v david_n repentance_n psal_n 51._o for_o he_o be_v thus_o deep_o affect_v after_o nathan_n have_v tell_v he_o his_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o although_o it_o do_v appear_v by_o the_o psalm_n also_o that_o he_o have_v not_o as_o yet_o that_o sense_n of_o pardon_n which_o do_v quiet_a his_o conscience_n this_o kind_n of_o affection_n be_v also_o in_o paul_n 1_o tim._n 12_o 13_o 14_o 15_o 16._o 1_o cor._n 15.8_o 9_o in_o which_o place_n the_o apostle_n remember_v his_o former_a sin_n confess_v they_o and_o acknowledge_v thereby_o his_o unworthiness_n of_o all_o that_o grace_n and_o favour_n he_o have_v receive_v so_o that_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o there_o humble_a himself_o that_o he_o may_v obtain_v mercy_n but_o because_o he_o have_v obtain_v mercy_n the_o most_o eminent_a instance_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n and_o shame_n be_v ezek._n 16.62_o 63._o where_o god_n promise_v to_o establish_v his_o covenant_n with_o they_o and_o then_o mark_v the_o event_n of_o this_o that_o thou_o mayâ—st_v remember_v and_o be_v confound_v and_o never_o open_v thy_o mouth_n more_o because_o of_o thy_o shame_n when_o i_o be_o pacify_v towards_o thou_o so_o then_o both_o these_o kind_n of_o humiliation_n be_v to_o be_v own_v and_o practise_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o false_a and_o dangerous_a error_n to_o acknowledge_v no_o other_o kind_n of_o repentance_n than_o the_o late_a the_o papist_n will_v not_o acknowledge_v this_o late_a humiliation_n at_o all_o because_o they_o deny_v all_o faith_n and_o assurance_n that_o a_o believer_n may_v have_v of_o
