have_v not_o only_o implant_v those_o natural_a provocation_n to_o pleasure_n heretofore_o speak_v of_o but_o also_o that_o natural_a readiness_n to_o act_n of_o conference_n and_o kindness_n as_o now_o declare_v so_o to_o prevent_v all_o such_o abuse_n as_o may_v arise_v through_o the_o exorbitant_a or_o irregular_a use_n of_o thing_n thus_o natural_o ingraff_v and_o likely_a thereupon_o to_o be_v as_o violent_o covet_v we_o may_v also_o observe_v divine_a bounty_n and_o providence_n to_o be_v as_o continual_o intent_n and_o careful_a in_o restore_v and_o assist_v of_o we_o be_v lasp_v as_o at_o first_o to_o create_v and_o state_n we_o happy_a the_o food_n which_o we_o take_v as_o it_o have_v in_o itself_o personal_a respect_n only_o so_o have_v it_o in_o each_o one_o a_o proper_a way_n of_o judicature_n to_o determine_v both_o of_o choice_n and_o satiety_n as_o well_o as_o of_o appetite_n and_o hunger_n in_o those_o other_o inclination_n that_o have_v aim_n beyond_o the_o party_n act_v the_o one_o for_o bring_v man_n into_o the_o world_n and_o the_o other_o for_o preserve_v and_o advantage_v of_o they_o be_v there_o they_o also_o by_o divine_a appointment_n be_v to_o have_v their_o public_a rule_n of_o direction_n and_o limitation_n set_v down_o by_o those_o society_n of_o man_n wherein_o they_o be_v to_o be_v exercise_v lest_o else_o the_o mean_n may_v prove_v destructive_a of_o its_o own_o end_n for_o i_o that_o in_o nature_n and_o as_o a_o man_n can_v not_o more_o kind-like_a or_o meritorious_o employ_v myself_o then_o in_o such_o like_a action_n may_v doubt_n of_o the_o fitness_n of_o positive_a direction_n and_o evidence_n herein_o in_o order_n to_o public_a benefit_n although_o against_o the_o good_a like_n of_o the_o obeyer_n whereas_o if_o public_a good_a be_v right_o know_v and_o weigh_v the_o other_o that_o have_v a_o more_o high_a and_o general_a influence_n thereupon_o even_o as_o it_o be_v more_o continual_o practicable_a by_o particular_a regard_n towards_o those_o of_o my_o own_o family_n and_o other_o relation_n which_o may_v at_o first_o arise_v from_o the_o marriage_n tie_v and_o that_o precept_n of_o a_o man_n provide_v for_o his_o own_o family_n may_v from_o too_o eager_a love_n fix_v on_o some_o contract_n by_o consequent_a as_o great_a hatred_n and_o neglect_n towards_o other_o whereby_o to_o destroy_v in_o the_o street_n that_o which_o be_v thus_o careful_o preserve_v in_o the_o house_n for_o as_o it_o be_v observe_v in_o the_o food_n of_o our_o natural_a body_n that_o the_o great_a and_o most_o dangerous_a surfeit_n do_v arise_v from_o the_o inordinate_a and_o irregular_a use_n of_o that_o which_o be_v in_o itself_o most_o wholesome_a and_o best_a even_o so_o in_o the_o politic_a frame_n there_o be_v nothing_o which_o more_o usual_o or_o with_o great_a danger_n do_v procure_v the_o disturbance_n and_o dissolution_n thereof_o than_o this_o arbitrary_a application_n of_o our_o love_n even_o when_o we_o as_o man_n do_v so_o far_o follow_v our_o own_o natural_a tie_n of_o affection_n and_o interest_n in_o the_o place_n of_o our_o good_a deed_n as_o to_o be_v neglectful_a of_o that_o our_o more_o high_a and_o near_a kindred_n and_o relation_n we_o have_v towards_o they_o as_o christian_n wherein_o as_o that_o common_a and_o equal_a affinity_n of_o brotherhood_n and_o fellow-member_n be_v always_o to_o fill_v we_o with_o due_a readiness_n to_o be_v beneficent_a to_o all_o so_o must_v it_o be_v direct_v and_o difference_v in_o choice_n of_o object_n and_o degree_n of_o exercise_n by_o law_n and_o rule_n receive_v from_o he_o that_o have_v the_o common_a headship_n and_o superintendency_n herein_o and_o if_o such_o a_o liberty_n to_o dispute_v the_o warrantableness_n of_o command_n shall_v be_v leave_v as_o some_o man_n do_v insist_v upon_o strange_a it_o be_v that_o among_o all_o those_o large_a and_o express_a precept_n for_o general_a and_o what_o nor_o because_o otherwise_o the_o liberty_n of_o dispute_v of_o these_o thing_n will_v render_v man_n true_o obedient_a in_o nothing_o and_o thereupon_o also_o make_v the_o say_a if_o the_o end_n of_o fortitude_n be_v to_o overcome_v evil_n what_o other_o way_n shall_v we_o so_o assure_o do_v it_o as_o with_o such_o fortification_n of_o our_o mind_n whereby_o they_o shall_v not_o so_o much_o as_o seem_v evil_n at_o all_o but_o rather_o blessing_n and_o benefit_n whereas_o alas_o to_o other_o who_o be_v ignorant_o and_o impetuous_o whirl_v with_o the_o thirst_n of_o honour_n riches_n or_o worldly_a pleasure_n of_o any_o sort_n how_o often_o must_v those_o cross_n and_o thwart_n in_o their_o attainment_n and_o possession_n which_o they_o must_v encounter_v from_o the_o hand_n of_o competitor_n render_v they_o through_o revenge_n anger_n and_o discontent_n not_o only_o most_o afflicted_o defeat_v of_o that_o particular_a but_o through_o sense_n hereof_o deprive_v of_o all_o their_o possession_n else_o or_o can_v you_o fancy_v a_o person_n like_a solomon_n uncrossed_a of_o all_o that_o can_v in_o this_o world_n be_v ask_v yet_o he_o as_o in_o his_o experience_n and_o true_a wisdom_n shall_v tell_v you_o as_o if_o set_v up_o on_o purpose_n that_o all_o be_v vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n nay_o all_o of_o they_o in_o their_o full_a glut_n 2.17_o fall_v far_o short_a of_o the_o short_a moment_n of_o that_o content_n much_o less_o of_o that_o steady_a last_a content_n which_o his_o meek_a and_o pious_a father_n take_v in_o that_o gladness_n which_o god_n put_v into_o his_o heart_n and_o that_o in_o comparison_n of_o other_o man_n corn_n and_o wine_n 4.7_o or_o any_o other_o temporal_a felicity_n when_o god_n give_v he_o peace_n it_o be_v by_o reason_n of_o his_o meek_a and_o grateful_a acceptance_n make_v to_o he_o the_o blessing_n of_o peace_n 29.11_o nay_o when_o he_o come_v to_o be_v afflict_v this_o as_o it_o wrought_v faith_n in_o god_n he_o acknowledge_v it_o to_o be_v good_a for_o he_o also_o 4.11_o for_o he_o have_v well_o practise_v the_o state_n of_o christianity_n in_o whatsoever_o estate_n he_o be_v to_o be_v therewith_o content_a and_o as_o he_o stand_v in_o his_o god_n thus_o steady_a like_o a_o tree_n plant_v by_o the_o river_n of_o water_n 1.3_o he_o behold_v the_o ungodly_a in_o their_o unbottomed_a condition_n drive_v to_o and_o fro_o like_a chaff_n upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n neither_o have_v they_o like_o he_o a_o father_n in_o heaven_n to_o seek_v daily_a bread_n from_o but_o it_o be_v first_o their_o curse_n and_o unhappiness_n to_o have_v no_o trusty_a and_o steady_a support_n for_o food_n but_o to_o seek_v it_o in_o desolate_a place_n wander_v up_o and_o down_o and_o then_o also_o 59.15_o to_o grudge_v if_o they_o be_v not_o satisfy_v or_o let_v we_o suppose_v again_o any_o person_n at_o the_o hige_a pitch_n of_o power_n so_o as_o to_o be_v able_a to_o recompense_v all_o those_o his_o conceit_a injury_n and_o displeasure_n which_o must_v befall_v he_o with_o revenge_n yet_o how_o shall_v we_o ever_o find_v this_o remedy_n to_o do_v none_o other_o than_o increase_v his_o disease_n for_o while_o he_o be_v take_v it_o how_o much_o trouble_n will_v this_o passion_n put_v he_o into_o and_o yet_o be_v both_o as_o unsatisfactory_a then_o of_o have_v do_v it_o full_a enough_o as_o afterward_o even_o out_o of_o the_o natural_a sense_n of_o pity_n how_o will_v he_o find_v himself_o trouble_v with_o perpetual_a reluctance_n of_o have_v do_v so_o much_o for_o when_o he_o shall_v be_v restore_v to_o his_o reason_n again_o he_o must_v find_v that_o while_o he_o have_v be_v judge_v another_o he_o have_v be_v condemn_v himself_o for_o be_v not_o the_o harm_n do_v by_o another_o give_v as_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o revenge_n well_o then_o since_o hereby_o he_o have_v not_o nor_o can_v recover_v the_o harm_n or_o loss_n it_o must_v mischief_n without_o expectation_n of_o repair_n to_o himself_o so_o shall_v he_o be_v leave_v to_o the_o reward_n of_o that_o master_n he_o have_v so_o careful_o serve_v and_o then_o far_o this_o act_n of_o revenge_n be_v so_o far_o from_o abate_v or_o allay_v the_o press_a torture_n of_o this_o passion_n which_o un-erring_a truth_n just_o call_v travel_v with_o mischief_n that_o it_o necessary_o increase_v it_o 7.14_o for_o the_o more_o and_o high_a it_o work_v the_o great_a discontent_n and_o murmur_n will_v it_o draw_v down_o from_o the_o friend_n of_o the_o oppress_a and_o then_o since_o none_o can_v in_o this_o case_n want_v friend_n and_o pittier_n this_o must_v again_o by_o new_a object_n give_v occasion_n of_o new_a anger_n and_o therewith_o of_o new_a revenge_n whereas_o accustom_a patience_n not_o only_o enable_v we_o in_o the_o endure_a of_o present_a suffering_n but_o also_o be_v by_o its_o habit_n the_o true_a and_o only_o relish_a of_o all_o blessing_n when_o they_o come_v no_o otherwise_o than_o abstinence_n or_o course_n food_n be_v too_o dainty_a fare_n afterward_o which_o be_v but_o loathsome_a to_o person_n glut_v therewith_o for_o all_o pleasure_n be_v absence_n of_o pain_n as_o health_n be_v of_o sickness_n and_o arise_v therefore_o to_o be_v increase_v according_a to_o present_a sense_n of_o contrariety_n it_o will_v follow_v that_o as_o sense_n of_o pain_n and_o want_n do_v precede_v so_o will_v sense_n of_o pleasure_n and_o possession_n in_o measure_n succeed_v patience_n equal_o enable_v we_o to_o sustain_v evil_a with_o less_o grief_n as_o to_o entertain_v good_a with_o more_o delight_n in_o which_o respect_n we_o may_v well_o find_v how_o those_o gospel_n promise_v come_v to_o be_v make_v good_a of_o whosoever_o have_v leave_v house_n or_o brethren_n or_o sister_n or_o father_n or_o mother_n or_o wise_a or_o child_n or_o land_n for_o my_o sake_n 10.29_o and_o the_o gospel_n he_o shall_v receive_v a_o hundred_o fold_v now_o in_o this_o time_n house_n and_o brethren_n and_o sister_n and_o mother_n and_o child_n and_o land_n with_o persecution_n and_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v eternal_a which_o well_o observe_v will_v make_v the_o condition_n of_o king_n and_o great_a person_n not_o so_o much_o desirable_a by_o subject_n and_o inferior_n even_o for_o that_o the_o fare_n and_o usage_n proper_a to_o they_o which_o in_o regard_n of_o scarcity_n with_o we_o we_o call_v dainty_a be_v by_o reason_n of_o commonness_n with_o they_o more_o loathsome_a than_o we_o who_o freedom_n they_o often_o envy_v be_v themselves_o so_o enclose_v and_o imprison_v with_o set_a order_n and_o multitude_n of_o ceremony_n and_o attendant_n that_o they_o esteem_v themselves_o then_o only_o at_o liberty_n when_o they_o can_v most_o imitate_v and_o practise_v the_o freedom_n of_o our_o condition_n but_o the_o weakness_n of_o this_o passion_n be_v so_o well_o find_v in_o natural_a reason_n and_o example_n i_o may_v leave_v it_o as_o a_o common_a place_n sufficient_o treat_v of_o for_o how_o many_o and_o eminent_a be_v tâ—ese_n instance_n even_o among_o heathen_n of_o such_o as_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v their_o prosecutor_n power_n or_o their_o own_o weakness_n so_o far_o as_o to_o prove_v by_o repine_v or_o desire_v of_o revenge_n that_o they_o be_v more_o than_o they_o can_v bear_v and_o do_v therefore_o usual_o leave_v this_o pusillanimous_a part_n to_o be_v act_v by_o the_o weak_a temper_n of_o woman_n and_o child_n but_o as_o for_o precept_n this_o way_n set_v down_o in_o scripture_n i_o believe_v that_o next_o to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n in_o christ_n which_o must_v precede_v as_o well_o as_o be_v accompany_v with_o these_o virtue_n these_o lesson_n
for_o shall_v the_o king_n be_v as_o much_o hide_v from_o our_o bodily_a sense_n as_o god_n be_v and_o shall_v we_o again_o know_v no_o more_o of_o the_o commission_n and_o power_n grant_v to_o justice_n in_o each_o kingdom_n than_o we_o do_v of_o the_o law_n of_o matter_n and_o internal_a form_n in_o nature_n it_o will_v be_v as_o hard_a to_o apprehend_v any_o prime_a agent_n above_o consideration_n be_v have_v of_o those_o strange_a conceit_n of_o the_o form_n and_o figure_n of_o king_n which_o be_v entertain_v by_o some_o ignorant_a people_n that_o as_o yet_o never_o see_v any_o nor_o hear_v they_o describe_v and_o the_o reason_n be_v the_o same_o for_o our_o ignorance_n in_o appearance_n of_o god_n operation_n in_o creation_n providence_n and_o natural_a cause_n as_o be_v for_o the_o ignorance_n of_o these_o before_o mention_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o cause_n of_o political_a or_o artificial_a production_n with_o we_o unless_o we_o shall_v impious_o as_o well_o as_o arrogant_o conclude_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v knowledge_n in_o this_o life_n in_o such_o perfection_n as_o to_o see_v he_o intuitive_o as_o angel_n do_v now_o or_o as_o ourselves_o shall_v do_v hereafter_o of_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o present_a course_n of_o god_n proceed_v in_o many_o particular_n both_o of_o creation_n and_o providence_n we_o do_v speak_v in_o the_o beginning_n and_o other_o part_n of_o this_o work_n in_o which_o we_o declare_v the_o divers_a sympathy_n and_o natural_a propensity_n wherewith_o vegetative_n and_o inanimate_v be_v endue_v all_o of_o they_o tend_v to_o specifical_a and_o mutual_a preservation_n and_o providence_n we_o also_o show_v how_o sensitive_n be_v provoke_v by_o the_o affection_n of_o pleasure_n natural_o implant_v in_o they_o and_o accompany_v thing_n beneficial_a to_o be_v continual_o active_a in_o pursuance_n of_o what_o be_v to_o themselves_o and_o other_o behooveful_a we_o also_o manifest_v how_o rational_a universal_a concern_n and_o such_o continual_a care_n in_o constitute_v and_o order_v these_o thing_n as_o to_o be_v their_o original_a cause_n and_o perpetual_a guide_n and_o support_v according_a to_o the_o method_n of_o his_o own_o good_a pleasure_n for_o shall_v there_o not_o be_v these_o natural_a propension_n to_o love_n and_o pity_n nay_o to_o act_n of_o justice_n and_o of_o submission_n therein_o to_o other_o as_o to_o honour_v parent_n and_o the_o like_a it_o will_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o through_o that_o too_o great_a thirst_n of_o self-seeking_a heretofore_o speak_v of_o and_o through_o anger_n and_o envy_v of_o be_v cross_v therein_o no_o one_o man_n will_v now_o be_v leave_v alive_a inasmuch_o as_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o be_v by_o one_o or_o other_o so_o much_o hate_v as_o to_o cause_v his_o death_n to_o be_v hearty_o desire_v be_v not_o manifold_a hindrance_n by_o divine_a providence_n and_o appointment_n put_v in_o to_o keep_v off_o execution_n and_o in_o
