he_o say_v unto_o they_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n for_o a_o man_n life_n consist_v not_o in_o the_o abundance_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o possess_v verse_n 16._o and_o he_o speak_v a_o parable_n unto_o they_o say_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o certain_a rich_a man_n bring_v forth_o plentiful_o verse_n 17._o and_o he_o think_v within_o himself_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o do_v because_o i_o have_v no_o room_n where_o to_o bestow_v my_o fruit_n verse_n 18._o and_o he_o say_v this_o will_v i_o do_v i_o will_v pull_v down_o my_o barn_n and_o build_v great_a and_o there_o consider_v the_o word_n occasion_n you_o be_v to_o understand_v that_o this_o dehortation_n be_v occasion_v by_o the_o discord_n of_o two_o brethren_n of_o who_o one_o come_v to_o our_o saviour_n as_o you_o may_v read_v in_o the_o precede_a word_n desire_v he_o to_o move_v his_o brother_n to_o divide_v the_o inheritance_n with_o he_o it_o be_v covetousness_n which_o make_v the_o one_o to_o retain_v that_o part_n of_o the_o inheritance_n which_o be_v not_o his_o own_o and_o which_o make_v the_o other_o to_o have_v recourse_n to_o our_o saviour_n not_o for_o the_o health_n of_o his_o soul_n as_o he_o shall_v have_v do_v but_o for_o redress_v in_o his_o temporal_a estate_n it_o make_v he_o more_o mindful_a of_o his_o patrimony_n in_o earth_n then_o of_o that_o which_o be_v in_o heaven_n hence_o our_o saviour_n take_v occasion_n to_o exhort_v he_o and_o all_o these_o that_o be_v present_a and_o in_o they_o we_o all_o to_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n what_o this_o be_v the_o duty_n which_o he_o recommend_v that_o which_o he_o will_v we_o to_o beware_v of_o be_v covetousness_n elsewher_o it_o be_v call_v the_o love_n of_o money_n but_o the_o word_n use_v here_o be_v more_o large_a signify_v a_o desire_n and_o seek_v after_o that_o which_o be_v more_o than_o be_v needful_a and_o sufficient_a whether_o in_o money_n or_o house_n or_o land_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v a_o vice_n in_o defect_n contrary_a to_o liberality_n whereby_o a_o man_n esteem_v love_v and_o delight_v in_o earthly_a riches_n more_o than_o he_o ought_v whence_o he_o exceed_v just_a measure_n in_o retain_v or_o acquire_v of_o they_o thus_o one_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o sin_n 1._o when_o against_o the_o ten_o commandment_n he_o covet_v that_o which_o be_v not_o his_o own_o or_o against_o the_o eight_o commandment_n violent_o or_o fraudulent_o take_v it_o 2._o when_o he_o set_v his_o heart_n upon_o that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o &_o will_v have_v we_o to_o consider_v and_o weigh_v and_o with_o all_o that_o present_a effect_n of_o covetousness_n among_o these_o brother_n and_o the_o like_a woeful_a effect_n which_o avarice_n bring_v forth_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o we_o must_v also_o beware_v we_o must_v careful_o watch_v and_o strong_o guard_v our_o heart_n that_o this_o enemy_n get_v no_o access_n by_o this_o our_o lord_n insinuate_v two_o thing_n first_o that_o covetousness_n be_v insidious_a next_o that_o it_o be_v also_o a_o pernicious_a evil_n first_o we_o must_v beware_v of_o it_o because_o it_o be_v a_o insidious_a evil_n it_o subtle_o creep_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n insidious_a to_o this_o purpose_n it_o bathe_v often_o the_o mask_n &_o the_o appearance_n of_o virtue_n sometime_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v frugality_n somtim_n justice_n and_o pretend_v title_n of_o just_a and_o right_o thus_o easy_o it_o prevail_v with_o our_o earthly_a mind_n and_o therefore_o almost_o there_o be_v no_o vice_n so_o universal_a it_o enter_v into_o the_o society_n of_o the_o holy_a apostle_n and_o overthrow_v judas_n there_o among_o the_o primitive_a christian_n it_o poison_v the_o heart_n of_o ananias_n and_o saphira_n the_o court_n of_o king_n &_o the_o cottage_n of_o poor_a man_n be_v easy_o tempt_v by_o it_o as_o experience_n teach_v second_o it_o be_v a_o most_o pernicious_a evil_n s._n paul_n 1_o tim._n 6._o say_v the_o love_n of_o money_n be_v the_o root_n of_o all_o evil_a distrustful_a anxiety_n lie_v evil_n fraud_n perjury_n thift_n oppression_n discord_n and_o murder_n spring_n from_o it_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o wicked_a than_o a_o covetous_a may_v say_v the_o wiseman_n ecclesiast_n 10._o 9_o for_o such_o a_o one_o will_v set_v his_o soul_n to_o sail_v there_o be_v word_n to_o comfort_v believer_n and_o to_o terrify_v unbeliever_n for_o no_o great_a comfort_n can_v be_v to_o they_o that_o receive_v he_o by_o a_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n than_o the_o assure_a hope_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v raise_v up_o by_o he_o from_o death_n to_o a_o glorious_a and_o immortal_a life_n and_o on_o the_o other_o part_n it_o be_v matter_n of_o exceed_a terror_n to_o the_o unbelieving_a and_o wicked_a that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v partaker_n of_o this_o bless_a resurrection_n but_o they_o shall_v be_v raise_v up_o to_o shame_n and_o confusion_n this_o point_n be_v urge_v diverse_a time_n hereafter_o by_o our_o lord_n resurrection_n and_o therefore_o it_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v have_v occasion_n to_o speak_v of_o it_o more_o full_o only_o now_o consider_v that_o this_o be_v a_o point_n which_o we_o shall_v at_o this_o time_n deep_o meditate_v upon_o he_o who_o call_v we_o and_o offer_v himself_o unto_o we_o be_v no_o less_o than_o he_o who_o the_o body_n the_o body_n will_v be_v call_v out_o of_o the_o grave_n and_o both_o will_v be_v call_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god._n if_o thou_o hearken_v devot_o and_o obedient_o to_o his_o call_v here_o thou_o shall_v lift_v up_o thy_o head_n then_o be_v confident_a that_o thy_o redemption_n draw_v near_o when_o god_n say_v to_o thy_o soul_n at_o death_n come_v out_o thou_o shall_v speak_v of_o the_o happy_a estate_n of_o the_o church_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n say_v to_o she_o all_o thy_o child_n shall_v be_v teach_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o great_a shall_v be_v their_o peace_n according_a to_o the_o sense_n it_o be_v also_o to_o be_v find_v elsewhere_o especial_o in_o the_o 31._o 33._o of_o iâ—r_n where_o the_o lord_n speak_v of_o the_o church_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n say_v after_o those_o day_n it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n in_o their_o heart_n &_o write_v it_o in_o their_o inward_a part_n and_o they_o shall_v be_v my_o people_n and_o i_o will_v be_v their_o god_n and_o they_o shall_v not_o teach_v every_o man_n his_o brother_n and_o every_o man_n his_o neighbour_n but_o they_o shall_v know_v i_o from_o the_o sorrow_n of_o which_o nature_n that_o be_v which_o his_o epistle_n wrought_v in_o the_o corinthian_n first_o the_o very_a name_n he_o give_v it_o contain_v a_o argument_n of_o commendation_n for_o the_o sorrow_n which_o he_o speak_v of_o be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n or_o a_o sorrow_n according_a to_o god._n 2._o he_o commend_v it_o from_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o it_o be_v such_o a_o sorrow_n as_o work_v repentance_n even_o a_o repentance_n that_o be_v never_o to_o be_v repent_v of_o because_o it_o be_v unto_o salvation_n 3._o he_o commend_v it_o by_o oppose_v the_o contrary_a sorrow_n nam_o the_o sorrow_n of_o this_o world_n which_o work_v death_n that_o we_o may_v proceed_v the_o more_o clear_o we_o shall_v begin_v at_o this_o last_o point_n the_o sorrow_n of_o this_o world_n world_n say_v he_o work_v death_n he_o oppose_v as_o you_o see_v two_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o the_o sorrow_n which_o be_v according_a to_o god_n and_o the_o sorrow_n of_o this_o world_n the_o sorrow_n of_o the_o good_a corinthian_n have_v this_o good_a in_o it_o that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o sorrow_n of_o this_o world_n which_o be_v no_o matter_n of_o joy_n for_o it_o work_v death_n all_o sorrow_n presuppose_v love_n for_o no_o man_n sorrow_v but_o for_o the_o loss_n or_o want_n of_o that_o which_o he_o love_v therefore_o where_o this_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v there_o be_v also_o a_o love_n of_o this_o world_n such_o be_v the_o sorrow_n that_o man_n have_v for_o the_o loss_n of_o worldly_a thing_n wealth_n honour_n delight_n or_o friend_n if_o their_o heart_n and_o love_n be_v set_v upon_o these_o thing_n they_o foolish_o and_o without_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n rejoice_v in_o they_o when_o they_o have_v they_o and_o be_v drink_v with_o that_o transitory_a happiness_n they_o seek_v for_o no_o more_o on_o the_o contraâ—y_n when_o they_o loss_n or_o want_v they_o their_o heart_n be_v cast_v down_o and_o they_o be_v press_v down_o with_o sorrow_n inordinate_o such_o a_o sorrow_n the_o apostle_n recommend_v not_o nay_o he_o dehort_v from_o it_o for_o it_o work_v death_n this_o sorrow_n can_v do_v no_o good_a when_o a_o man_n have_v lose_v his_o riches_n if_o he_o sorrow_n for_o that_o this_o sorrow_n will_v not_o restore_v his_o wealth_n to_o he_o again_o if_o a_o man_n have_v lose_v his_o honour_n the_o sorrow_n which_o he_o have_v for_o that_o will_v not_o recover_v it_o again_o if_o he_o have_v lose_v his_o friend_n or_o child_n shall_v he_o mourn_v never_o so_o much_o for_o they_o his_o sorrow_n will_v not_o bring_v they_o to_o life_n again_o so_o this_o sorrow_n can_v do_v no_o good_a yea_o on_o the_o contrary_a it_o do_v great_a harm_n it_o work_v death_n it_o make_v the_o way_n to_o bodily_a death_n especial_o when_o it_o be_v inordinate_a the_o heaviness_n of_o the_o spirit_n dry_v up_o the_o bone_n say_v solomon_n proverb_n 17._o 22._o sorrow_n have_v kill_v many_o and_o there_o be_v no_o profit_n in_o it_o say_v the_o wiseman_n ecclestast_n chap._n 30._o 23._o and_o which_o be_v worst_a of_o all_o this_o sorrow_n lead_v to_o eternal_a death_n for_o god_n be_v offend_v with_o it_o it_o stir_v up_o a_o man_n to_o do_v many_o thing_n whereat_o god_n be_v offend_v and_o make_v a_o man_n guilty_a of_o eternal_a death_n so_o this_o sorrow_n be_v no_o matter_n of_o joy_n but_o the_o sorrow_n that_o be_v in_o the_o corinthian_n and_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v in_o we_o all_o be_v of_o another_o kind_n it_o be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n or_o a_o sorrow_n according_a to_o god_n for_o better_a understanding_n conceive_v for_o the_o offence_n of_o god_n or_o because_o he_o have_v do_v that_o which_o be_v displease_v and_o hateful_a to_o god_n and_o therefore_o this_o sorrow_n which_o be_v according_a to_o god_n be_v a_o sorrow_n for_o our_o sin_n nothing_o offend_v he_o but_o sin_n and_o every_o sin_n offend_v he_o for_o all_o sin_n be_v do_v in_o thought_n word_n or_o deed_n against_o his_o eternal_a law_n and_o his_o eternal_a law_n be_v his_o supreme_a and_o eternal_a reason_n which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o god_n himself_o so_o that_o whosoever_o sin_v shake_v off_o the_o yoke_n and_o grieve_v for_o these_o thing_n which_o offend_v he_o that_o on_o the_o contrary_n we_o take_v delight_n therein_o it_o be_v only_a god_n that_o open_v our_o eye_n and_o take_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o stone_n and_o molifi_v our_o hair_n that_o they_o may_v melt_v with_o sorrow_n for_o the_o offence_n of_o he_o 3._o this_o be_v a_o sorrow_n according_a to_o god_n because_o we_o undertake_v
