corruption_n have_v two_o part_n first_o a_o want_n not_o of_o some_o but_o of_o all_o good_a inclination_n a_o want_n of_o all_o goodness_n second_o a_o depravation_n &_o proneness_n not_o to_o some_o but_o to_o all_o evil_a and_o not_o a_o proneness_n only_o but_o original_a sin_n infuse_v into_o every_o man_n heart_n the_o seed_n of_o all_o corruption_n many_o man_n stand_v much_o upon_o their_o good_a meaning_n and_o upright_o heart_n and_o brag_v of_o a_o good_a nature_n but_o they_o be_v foul_o deceive_v for_o take_v the_o civil_a man_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o seed_n of_o all_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n be_v in_o he_o by_o nature_n but_o to_o explain_v this_o point_n full_o observe_v these_o two_o clause_n first_o i_o say_v not_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o sin_n but_o the_o seed_n for_o all_o man_n practise_v not_o all_o sin_n the_o seed_n be_v in_o their_o nature_n but_o the_o practice_n be_v restrain_v sometime_o by_o education_n sometime_o by_o good_a and_o wholesome_a law_n sometime_o the_o constitution_n of_o man_n body_n deny_v the_o practice_n of_o some_o sin_n sometime_o the_o country_n a_o man_n dwell_v in_o or_o call_v a_o man_n live_v in_o keep_v he_o from_o the_o practice_n of_o some_o sin_n and_o always_o a_o general_a and_o limit_v grace_n of_o god_n restrain_v the_o nature_n of_o all_o man_n from_o run_v into_o many_o sin_n which_o hand_n of_o god_n if_o god_n shall_v take_v away_o and_o leave_v every_o man_n to_o his_o nature_n we_o shall_v see_v that_o every_o man_n will_v practice_v any_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o even_o the_o great_a sin_n that_o ever_o we_o hear_v to_o be_v do_v in_o the_o world_n all_o man_n which_o know_v themselves_o know_v this_o to_o be_v true_a and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n know_v his_o own_o heart_n the_o more_o he_o see_v that_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o sea_n of_o all_o wickedness_n &_o that_o it_o be_v the_o mercy_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v not_o fall_v into_o the_o mighty_a &_o most_o monstrous_a sin_n in_o the_o world_n second_o i_o say_v by_o nature_n for_o i_o know_v by_o good_a education_n &_o by_o grace_n it_o be_v otherwise_o grace_n rectify_v nature_n but_o that_o be_v no_o thanks_n to_o nature_n for_o it_o be_v as_o evil_a and_o corrupt_a still_o be_v sever_v from_o grace_n and_o therefore_o nature_n must_v be_v full_o abolish_v afore_o man_n come_v to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o though_o all_o this_o be_v true_a i_o say_v not_o that_o sin_n break_v out_o in_o all_o nature_n alike_o though_o all_o nature_n be_v alike_o corrupt_a for_o the_o course_n of_o nature_n be_v restrain_v in_o some_o more_o than_o other_o by_o the_o mean_v aforesaid_a but_o this_o be_v the_o truth_n that_o whereas_o some_o be_v not_o so_o angry_a some_o not_o so_o wanton_a some_o not_o so_o cruel_a some_o not_o so_o covetous_a some_o not_o so_o ambitious_a etc._n etc._n as_o other_o that_o come_v not_o from_o any_o goodness_n of_o nature_n in_o they_o above_o the_o other_o original_o but_o from_o god_n hand_n which_o temper_v restrain_v and_o moderate_v every_o man_n nature_n as_o he_o see_v good_a and_o if_o god_n do_v not_o thus_o moderate_a &_o restrain_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n but_o suffer_v they_o to_o break_v out_o to_o the_o full_a there_o will_v then_o be_v no_o order_n but_o all_o confusion_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o as_o especial_o for_o his_o church_n quietness_n so_o also_o for_o the_o preservation_n of_o public_a peace_n and_o the_o uphold_v of_o society_n in_o the_o world_n between_o man_n and_o man_n the_o lord_n hold_v a_o hand_n over_o every_o man_n nature_n and_o keep_v every_o one_o in_o a_o certain_a compass_n limit_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o his_o power_n which_o restrain_v hand_n of_o he_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v take_v away_o all_o society_n and_o common_a wealth_n will_v be_v turn_v upside_o down_o because_o every_o man_n by_o the_o universal_a corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n will_v break_v out_o into_o every_o sin_n i_o end_v this_o point_n with_o appeal_n to_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o conscience_n of_o all_o man_n and_o especial_o of_o the_o best_a and_o holy_a man_n of_o who_o i_o will_v ask_v this_o question_n whether_o they_o find_v not_o in_o their_o nature_n a_o inclination_n even_o to_o the_o foul_a sin_n in_o the_o world_n if_o shame_n or_o fear_v or_o else_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n restrain_v they_o not_o so_o that_o the_o best_a man_n do_v know_v well_o enough_o what_o ado_n they_o have_v with_o their_o corrupt_a nature_n to_o keep_v they_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o obedience_n nay_o i_o yet_o add_v further_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o of_o all_o man_n be_v so_o corrupt_a since_o adam_n that_o even_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o a_o proneness_n to_o it_o be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o every_o man_n though_o not_o one_o man_n among_o many_o thousand_o do_v commit_v that_o sin_n for_o see_v in_o that_o sin_n there_o be_v a_o heap_n or_o sea_n of_o all_o sin_n gather_v together_o
he_o therefore_o that_o have_v in_o his_o nature_n the_o seed_n of_o all_o sin_n have_v also_o the_o seed_n of_o it_o and_o again_o see_v all_o evil_n tend_v to_o a_o perfection_n as_o well_o as_o grace_n do_v what_o reason_n therefore_o be_v there_o but_o we_o may_v safe_o think_v that_o the_o devil_n will_v hale_v every_o one_o to_o that_o height_n of_o sin_n if_o it_o be_v not_o that_o the_o powerful_a hand_n of_o god_n prevent_v he_o who_o will_v neither_o suffer_v wicked_a man_n nor_o the_o devil_n himself_o to_o be_v so_o wicked_a as_o they_o can_v and_o will_v be_v the_o use_n of_o this_o second_o rule_n be_v notable_a for_o in_o this_o search_n of_o ourselves_o it_o show_v we_o what_o we_o be_v without_o all_o colour_n or_o deceit_n and_o full_o discover_v unto_o we_o the_o ugliness_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o it_o may_v teach_v we_o all_o how_o 38_o to_o think_v and_o esteem_v of_o ourselves_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o cain_n unnatural_a murder_n pharohs_o unnatural_a cruelty_n the_o sodomite_v unnatural_a lust_n achitophle_n devilish_a policy_n senacherib_n horrible_a blasphemy_n judas_n monstrous_a treason_n julian's_n fearful_a apostasy_n when_o we_o hear_v of_o the_o fearful_a murder_n treason_n periuty_n sin_n against_o nature_n blasphemy_n apostasy_n witchcraft_n and_o other_o the_o horrible_a sin_n of_o the_o world_n let_v we_o then_o return_v into_o ourselves_o &_o look_v homeward_o even_o into_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o confess_v every_o one_o that_o these_o shall_v have_v be_v even_o thy_o sin_n also_o if_o god_n grace_n have_v not_o prevent_v thou_o this_o will_v humble_v thou_o and_o make_v thou_o think_v vile_o &_o base_o of_o thyself_o and_o so_o consequent_o bring_v thou_o to_o repentance_n and_o true_a amendment_n and_o the_o very_a reason_n why_o man_n repent_v not_o nor_o amend_v their_o way_n be_v because_o they_o be_v pharisy_n by_o nature_n and_o think_v high_o of_o themselves_o and_o of_o their_o own_o nature_n and_o their_o natural_a inclination_n this_o will_v be_v a_o harsh_a and_o a_o strange_a doctrine_n to_o they_o oh_o they_o have_v excellent_a nature_n and_o they_o can_v endure_v such_o and_o such_o sin_n and_o they_o thank_v god_n they_o be_v not_o as_o ill_o as_o other_o but_o let_v all_o such_o man_n know_v they_o must_v cease_v magnify_v nature_n and_o learn_v to_o magnify_v god_n grace_n let_v they_o know_v that_o nature_n in_o they_o be_v in_o the_o root_n as_o much_o corrupt_a as_o in_o the_o worst_a man_n in_o the_o world_n and_o every_o man_n heart_n be_v a_o bottomless_a fountain_n of_o all_o sin_n therefore_o praise_v not_o thy_o nature_n but_o god_n grace_n and_o mercy_n in_o give_v thou_o so_o good_a a_o nature_n or_o rather_o so_o well_o restrain_v and_o rectify_v thy_o nature_n and_o stay_v not_o there_o but_o desire_v of_o the_o lord_n that_o as_o he_o have_v give_v thou_o a_o better_a temper_a nature_n they_o to_o other_o man_n so_o also_o he_o will_v bestow_v lead_v thou_o into_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n which_o else_o the_o best_a nature_n in_o the_o world_n can_v never_o attain_v unto_o the_o three_o rule_n to_o be_v know_v and_o practise_v by_o he_o who_o will_v true_o search_v himself_o be_v that_o every_o man_n bear_v of_o adam_n be_v by_o nature_n the_o child_n of_o wrath_n and_o god_n enemy_n this_o be_v true_a of_o all_o without_o exception_n high_a or_o low_a rich_a or_o poor_a noble_a or_o simple_a bear_v in_o the_o visible_a church_n or_o without_o and_o further_o by_o be_v enemy_n of_o god_n he_o be_v therefore_o bear_v subject_a to_o hell_n to_o damnation_n and_o to_o all_o other_o curse_n so_o that_o look_v as_o a_o traitor_n convict_v stand_v thereby_o in_o his_o prince_n high_a displeasure_n and_o be_v sure_a of_o death_n without_o special_a pardon_n so_o stand_v every_o man_n when_o he_o be_v bear_v convict_v of_o high_a treason_n against_o god_n in_o his_o high_a disfavour_v and_o be_v in_o danger_n of_o hell_n which_o be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n thus_o david_n confess_v of_o himself_o i_o be_v bear_v in_o iniquity_n and_o in_o sin_n have_v my_o mother_n concein_v i_o if_o in_o sin_n then_o in_o god_n wrath_n and_o under_o the_o danger_n of_o damnation_n if_o any_o ask_v how_o or_o why_o this_o be_v so_o i_o answer_v the_o truth_n as_o also_o the_o equity_n of_o this_o three_o rule_n depend_v on_o the_o two_o former_a for_o because_o every_o man_n be_v bear_v guilty_a of_o adam_n great_a sin_n and_o also_o taint_v original_o with_o all_o corruption_n &_o a_o pronnesse_n to_o all_o sin_n therefore_o it_o follow_v in_o equity_n and_o justice_n that_o every_o man_n be_v bear_v under_o the_o wrath_n and_o curse_n of_o god_n this_o point_n be_v a_o plain_a and_o evident_a truth_n yet_o man_n in_o the_o world_n think_v not_o so_o and_o it_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o man_n repent_v not_o of_o their_o sin_n for_o most_o man_n think_v that_o by_o nature_n they_o be_v in_o god_n favour_n and_o therefore_o they_o need_v not_o to_o sue_v for_o it_o in_o humiliation_n and_o repentance_n but_o only_o live_v civil_o and_o do_v no_o open_a wrong_n and_o all_o be_v well_o whereas_o alas_o there_o be_v no_o condemn_a traitor_n more_o out_o of_o his_o prince_n favour_n nor_o more_o sure_a of_o death_n without_o a_o pardon_n than_o all_o we_o be_v out_o of_o god_n favour_n and_o sure_a of_o damnation_n unless_o we_o procure_v god_n favour_n again_o by_o faith_n and_o repentance_n for_o the_o better_a open_n of_o this_o three_o rule_n and_o the_o manifest_v of_o the_o truth_n let_v we_o know_v further_o that_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n under_o the_o which_o we_o be_v all_o bear_v be_v threefould_a the_o first_o be_v a_o bondage_n under_o satan_n it_o be_v a_o certain_a truth_n that_o every_o man_n as_o he_o be_v bear_v of_o his_o parent_n and_o till_o he_o repent_v be_v a_o slave_n of_o satan_n man_n or_o woman_n high_a or_o low_o satan_n be_v his_o lord_n and_o master_n he_o sit_v as_o judge_v in_o his_o heart_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n satan_n be_v the_o king_n of_o the_o nation_n and_o god_n of_o the_o world_n man_n will_v in_o word_n defy_v satan_n and_o not_o name_v he_o without_o defiance_n and_o spit_v at_o he_o and_o yet_o alas_o he_o be_v in_o their_o heart_n they_o spit_v he_o out_o of_o their_o mouth_n but_o he_o be_v low_a they_o shall_v also_o spit_v he_o out_o of_o their_o heart_n and_o that_o be_v true_a defiance_n indeed_o for_o alas_o he_o lodge_v in_o thy_o heart_n and_o there_o he_o make_v his_o throne_n and_o reign_v until_o the_o spirit_n of_o regeneration_n dispossess_v he_o and_o till_o then_o no_o servant_n be_v so_o subject_a to_o his_o master_n no_o slave_n to_o his_o lord_n as_o be_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n by_o nature_n unto_o satan_n the_o prince_n of_o darkness_n nay_o our_o bondage_n be_v more_o fearful_a than_o the_o slavery_n of_o any_o poor_a christian_a in_o the_o spaniard_n or_o in_o the_o turk_n galley_n for_o their_o body_n be_v but_o in_o bondage_n and_o at_o command_n and_o under_o punishment_n but_o our_o best_a part_n our_o heart_n our_o conscience_n for_o it_o be_v the_o very_a gate_n of_o hell_n and_o the_o downfall_n to_o damnation_n unto_o all_o man_n but_o such_o as_o by_o faith_n and_o repentance_n do_v get_v their_o death_n sanctify_v by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n unto_o such_o man_n indeed_o it_o be_v no_o curse_n but_o a_o gracious_a and_o glorious_a blessing_n for_o it_o be_v alter_v by_o christ_n his_o death_n but_o unto_o all_o tooth_n ach_v and_o sometime_o when_o thy_o head_n ach_v or_o in_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o stone_n or_o colic_n thou_o will_v give_v all_o that_o thou_o have_v in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v ease_v of_o that_o pain_n nay_o in_o the_o exstremitie_n of_o some_o fit_n many_o will_v wish_v themselves_o even_o out_o of_o the_o world_n now_o if_o the_o pain_n of_o one_o tooth_n can_v so_o far_o distemper_v mind_n and_o body_n that_o it_o can_v be_v releive_v with_o all_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n o_o then_o what_o a_o torment_n shall_v that_o be_v when_o not_o one_o kind_a of_o pain_n but_o the_o whole_a viol_n of_o god_n wrath_n shall_v be_v pour_v not_o on_o one_o member_n but_o on_o the_o whole_a soul_n body_n and_o conscience_n and_o that_o not_o for_o a_o time_n under_o hope_n of_o better_a but_o eternal_o without_o hope_n of_o release_n and_o that_o not_o in_o this_o world_n where_o there_o be_v comfort_n help_n and_o remedy_n but_o in_o that_o ugly_a and_o darksome_a place_n of_o torment_n and_o that_o not_o among_o live_a man_n which_o may_v mitigate_v thy_o pain_n or_o else_o bemoan_v thou_o and_o beway_o leit_a with_o thou_o but_o with_o the_o devil_n and_o damn_a spirit_n which_o will_v now_o laugh_v at_o thy_o destruction_n and_o solace_v themselves_o in_o this_o thy_o misery_n and_o will_v rejoice_v as_o thou_o do_v serve_v they_o in_o earth_n so_o now_o in_o hell_n to_o be_v thy_o torment_n it_o may_v be_v therefore_o by_o the_o way_n good_a warning_n and_o wisdom_n to_o we_o all_o when_o we_o feel_v the_o extremity_n of_o some_o bodily_a pain_n to_o consider_v with_o ourselves_o and_o say_v o_o then_o what_o shall_v be_v my_o misery_n and_o torment_n if_o i_o repent_v not_o when_o not_o one_o member_n but_o soul_n body_n and_o conscience_n shall_v be_v rack_v and_o torment_v in_o the_o feel_n and_o apprehension_n of_o the_o anger_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n in_o these_o three_o point_n stand_v that_o curse_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n under_o which_o every_o man_n be_v bear_v and_o these_o do_v answer_v to_o the_o three_o degree_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v in_o we_o for_o as_o the_o two_o first_o rule_n teach_v we_o there_o be_v in_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n till_o he_o repent_v a_o threefold_a guiltiness_n first_o a_o guiltiness_n of_o adam_n sin_n second_o the_o taint_n of_o original_n and_o universal_a corruption_n three_o a_o pollution_n by_o many_o outrageous_a actual_a sin_n in_o the_o first_o of_o these_o every_o man_n be_v equal_o guilty_a in_o the_o second_o every_o man_n be_v equal_o corrupt_a but_o in_o the_o three_o every_o one_o keep_v that_o compass_n within_o which_o the_o lord_n will_v keep_v they_o by_o his_o limit_v power_n now_o as_o in_o our_o guiltiness_n of_o adam_n sin_n sin_n have_v his_o beginning_n in_o original_a sin_n his_o continuance_n in_o actual_a sin_n his_o perfection_n so_o answerable_a hereunto_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n which_o always_o stand_v opposite_a to_o sin_n be_v begin_v in_o leave_v we_o by_o nature_n to_o the_o slavery_n of_o satan_n be_v continue_v by_o death_n and_o be_v accomplish_v in_o damnation_n and_o now_o these_o three_o rule_n i_o commend_v to_o the_o careful_a &_o christian_a consideration_n of_o you_o all_o certify_v you_o from_o god_n that_o as_o you_o can_v never_o be_v save_v unless_o you_o repent_v nor_o repent_v unless_o you_o search_v yourselves_o as_o here_o the_o prophet_n bid_v death_n so_o that_o you_o can_v never_o search_v yourselves_o aright_o till_o you_o be_v persuade_v and_o resolve_v of_o these_o three_o rule_n and_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o they_o all_o even_o in_o your_o heart_n and_o conscience_n namely_o first_o that_o thou_o be_v guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n second_o that_o thou_o be_v prone_a by_o nature_n to_o all_o evil_a in_o the_o world_n three_o that_o for_o these_o thou_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o to_o all_o the_o curse_n of_o his_o wrath_n but_o when_o thou_o be_v in_o heart_n &_o conscience_n resolve_v that_o these_o be_v true_a than_o thou_o be_v a_o fit_a scholar_n for_o this_o lesson_n of_o the_o prophet_n search_v thyself_o for_o when_o thou_o go_v thus_o prepare_v unto_o this_o search_n and_o esteem_v of_o thyself_o as_o these_o three_o rule_n have_v describe_v thou_o then_o if_o thou_o search_v into_o thyself_o thou_o will_v find_v thyself_o and_o thy_o estate_n to_o be_v such_o as_o will_v cause_v thou_o to_o repent_v return_n and_o take_v a_o new_a course_n therefore_o what_o the_o prophet_n say_v to_o those_o jew_n i_o say_v unto_o you_o also_o my_o brethren_n of_o this_o realm_n of_o england_n who_o be_v here_o now_o gather_v together_o out_o of_o so_o many_o country_n &_o quarter_n of_o this_o realm_n yea_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o same_o god_n i_o cry_v unto_o you_o search_v o_o search_v yourselves_o and_o think_v it_o not_o a_o matter_n indifferent_a to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v it_o but_o know_v it_o that_o god_n command_v you_o as_o ever_o you_o will_v come_v to_o salvation_n search_v yourselves_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o by_o these_o three_o rule_n you_o see_v how_o much_o chaff_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o your_o nature_n and_o what_o need_n therefore_o it_o have_v to_o be_v search_v into_o and_o fan_v by_o repentance_n be_v well_o assure_v thou_o man_n whatsoever_o thou_o be_v there_o be_v so_o much_o chaff_n in_o thou_o that_o if_o thou_o search_v not_o and_o fan_v it_o not_o out_o thou_o will_v prove_v nothing_o but_o chaff_n at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o so_o be_v blow_v away_o with_o the_o wind_n of_o god_n justice_n into_o hell_n take_v hold_v therefore_o of_o this_o exhortation_n and_o defer_v it_o not_o thou_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o wheat_n to_o lie_v too_o long_o in_o the_o that_o little_a portion_n of_o grace_n which_o thou_o attaine_v unto_o by_o live_v in_o the_o church_n and_o under_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n will_v be_v putrify_v and_o clean_o corrupt_v with_o the_o chaff_n of_o thy_o sin_n therefore_o again_o and_o again_o i_o exhort_v you_o to_o make_v conscience_n of_o this_o duty_n search_v into_o yourselves_o fan_v out_o this_o chaff_n this_o presumption_n of_o we_o and_o high_a esteem_v of_o our_o own_o nature_n and_o conceit_n of_o god_n favour_n before_o we_o have_v it_o that_o so_o this_o chaff_n be_v blow_v away_o the_o lord_n may_v then_o bestow_v upon_o we_o foundnesse_n of_o grace_n &_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o goodness_n which_o be_v a_o holy_a &_o humble_a heart_n salnation_n be_v such_o a_o building_n as_o the_o foundation_n thereof_o have_v need_n to_o be_v sure_a and_o strong_a ignorance_n blindness_n and_o presumption_n be_v not_o sufficient_a foundation_n for_o such_o a_o building_n therefore_o as_o no_o man_n will_v build_v a_o strong_a house_n upon_o any_o earth_n but_o will_v first_o search_v it_o lest_o it_o prove_v sandie_n &_o so_o overthrow_v all_o so_o a_o wise_a christian_a will_v not_o betimes_o and_o discern_v betwixt_o chaff_n &_o wheat_n thou_o see_v that_o chaff_n fly_v away_o before_o the_o wind_n but_o good_a corn_n endure_v the_o fan_n and_o the_o fury_n of_o the_o wind_n wonder_v at_o but_o look_v at_o the_o life_n of_o our_o ordinary_a professor_n look_v at_o our_o sin_n and_o at_o our_o requite_v of_o god_n love_n and_o we_o be_v a_o people_n of_o sodom_n as_o full_a of_o iniquity_n as_o they_o be_v who_o sin_n be_v so_o many_o so_o rife_o and_o so_o ripe_a that_o at_o the_o last_o they_o will_v even_o bring_v down_o fire_n &_o brimstone_n or_o some_o other_o strange_a judgement_n upon_o we_o if_o repentance_n do_v not_o prevent_v it_o or_o the_o cry_n and_o prayer_n of_o holy_a man_n stay_v not_o god_n hand_n so_o then_o let_v we_o all_o here_o assemble_v grant_v &_o confess_v that_o we_o be_v a_o nation_n so_o far_o from_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v belove_v as_o that_o we_o be_v most_o worthy_a to_o be_v hate_v &_o to_o have_v all_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n pour_v upon_o us._n now_o then_o be_v we_o so_o and_o shall_v we_o continue_v so_o still_o nay_o that_o be_v the_o worst_a and_o most_o wretched_a of_o all_o then_o let_v every_o one_o of_o we_o learn_v this_o duty_n enter_v into_o ourselves_o search_v our_o heart_n and_o life_n that_o they_o may_v lie_v open_a to_o our_o own_o sight_n to_o the_o confusion_n of_o we_o in_o vengeance_n and_o before_o the_o face_n of_o god_n angel_n who_o bewail_v it_o and_o before_o the_o face_n of_o the_o devil_n who_o rejoice_v in_o our_o confusion_n and_o shall_v they_o lie_v hide_v only_o to_o ourselves_o now_o then_o if_o we_o will_v have_v they_o hide_v from_o god_n and_o stop_v the_o cry_n that_o they_o make_v against_o we_o and_o keep_v they_o from_o satan_n who_o accuse_v will_v follow_v but_o that_o they_o will_v all_o be_v disclose_v at_o the_o last_o day_n to_o thy_o eternal_a confusion_n therefore_o again_o and_o again_o i_o exhort_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n search_v yourselves_o find_v out_o your_o sin_n confess_v they_o to_o god_n free_o and_o ingenious_o confess_v their_o desert_n to_o be_v hell_n and_o damnation_n humble_a your_o heart_n to_o belove_v as_o for_o their_o peace_n and_o prosperity_n they_o have_v be_v of_o all_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n admire_v hitherto_o of_o the_o three_o general_a point_n 4_o the_o four_o general_a point_n in_o this_o exhortation_n be_v the_o time_n limit_v they_o when_o they_o shall_v search_v before_o the_o decree_n come_v forth_o etc._n etc._n as_o though_o the_o prophet_n shall_v say_v israel_n repent_v before_o god_n execute_v his_o judgement_n on_o thou_o for_o behold_v the_o gracious_a deal_n of_o god_n man_n sin_v his_o sin_n deserve_v plague_n but_o god_n present_o plague_v travel_v and_o bring_v forth_o a_o fearful_a birth_n namely_o the_o universal_a flood_n to_o wash_v away_o and_o take_v revenge_n upon_o the_o universal_a iniquity_n of_o those_o time_n so_o many_o hundred_o year_n he_o give_v unto_o the_o jew_n long_o he_o be_v in_o conceive_v their_o destruction_n and_o oftentimes_o he_o have_v it_o at_o the_o bring_v forth_o as_o in_o the_o captivity_n of_o babylon_n and_o under_o antiochus_n yet_o his_o mercy_n stay_v it_o and_o still_o he_o travail_v long_o tell_v they_o here_o by_o the_o prophet_n that_o yet_o the_o decree_n be_v not_o come_v forth_o though_o it_o be_v conceive_v but_o at_o last_o when_o israel_n will_v not_o repent_v but_o grow_v worse_a and_o worse_o as_o in_o christ_n his_o time_n than_o he_o can_v contain_v no_o long_o but_o country_n of_o their_o city_n and_o temple_n and_o a_o dispertion_n of_o their_o nation_n over_o all_o the_o world_n but_o as_o a_o woman_n at_o last_o be_v deliver_v with_o danger_n and_o difficulty_n with_o pain_n and_o sorrow_n so_o the_o lord_n long_o conceive_v but_o at_o last_o bring_v forth_o his_o judgement_n yet_o it_o be_v with_o grief_n and_o unwillingness_n and_o he_o be_v loath_a as_o it_o be_v and_o much_o aggrieve_v to_o execute_v his_o most_o just_a judgement_n on_o those_o who_o have_v profess_v his_o name_n he_o often_o touch_v the_o jew_n a_o little_a and_o as_o be_v unwilling_a to_o smite_v they_o he_o draw_v back_o his_o hand_n again_o but_o at_o last_o when_o their_o sin_n do_v so_o increase_v and_o be_v so_o strong_a that_o they_o even_o do_v wring_v the_o lively_a and_o the_o strong_a so_o god_n judgement_n the_o long_a god_n defer_v they_o and_o be_v in_o conceive_v they_o the_o heavy_a be_v they_o when_o they_o come_v that_o be_v manifest_a in_o the_o jew_n once_o his_o own_o people_n for_o he_o have_v destroy_v their_o land_n with_o a_o irrecoverable_a destruction_n and_o smite_v their_o posterity_n with_o a_o blindness_n of_o mind_n till_o this_o hour_n so_o that_o to_o this_o day_n when_o the_o old_a testament_n be_v read_v the_o veil_n be_v over_o their_o eye_n that_o they_o can_v see_v the_o light_n of_o christ_n jesus_n but_o their_o trial_n let_v the_o ten_o commandment_n pass_v upon_o they_o and_o thy_o sin_n and_o corruption_n which_o thou_o find_v to_o be_v chaff_n blow_v they_o away_o by_o repentance_n so_o shall_v thou_o remain_v pure_a and_o clean_a wheat_n fit_a for_o the_o house_n and_o church_n of_o god_n in_o this_o world_n &_o for_o his_o kingdom_n in_o heaven_n but_o if_o we_o will_v not_o do_v this_o then_o alas_o what_o will_v follow_v my_o heart_n grieve_v to_o utter_v it_o but_o i_o must_v unless_o i_o shall_v be_v a_o false_a prophet_n and_o therefore_o i_o wil._n our_o long_a peace_n plenty_n god_n judgement_n we_o shall_v continue_v the_o gospel_n to_o this_o land_n and_o preserve_v this_o glorious_a nation_n from_o be_v destroy_v or_o dispeople_v by_o some_o fearful_a judgement_n belove_a you_o come_v hither_o to_o this_o fair_a place_n purposely_o to_o buy_v and_o sell_v and_o thereby_o to_o better_v your_o estate_n in_o this_o world_n how_o happy_a then_o be_v you_o if_o beside_o the_o good_a market_n you_o make_v for_o your_o body_n and_o estate_n you_o learn_v also_o how_o to_o make_v yourselves_o abide_v the_o trial_n of_o god_n judgement_n and_o how_o to_o be_v make_v pure_a corn_n fit_a to_o replenish_v the_o garner_n of_o heaven_n &_o how_o to_o continue_v god_n favour_n and_o the_o gospel_n to_o this_o nation_n if_o thou_o go_v away_o with_o this_o lesson_n thou_o have_v a_o jewel_n more_o worth_a then_o if_o thou_o shall_v go_v home_o possess_v or_o all_o the_o huge_a riches_n of_o this_o fair_a you_o call_v this_o and_o such_o like_a time_n fair_a time_n but_o if_o thou_o learn_v this_o lesson_n right_a than_o thou_o may_v say_v that_o this_o be_v the_o fair_a day_n in_o deed_n that_o ever_o shine_v upon_o thou_o since_o thou_o be_v bear_v this_o precious_a jewel_n which_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o all_o this_o while_n i_o hear_v offer_n unto_o thou_o every_o one_o bring_v hither_o something_o to_o be_v sell_v this_o be_v the_o merchandise_n that_o i_o bring_v and_o set_v to_o sale_n unto_o you_o what_o ever_o commodity_n any_o of_o you_o bring_v it_o be_v from_o some_o quarter_n of_o this_o land_n but_o all_o be_v from_o the_o earth_n but_o this_o that_o i_o bring_v it_o be_v from_o heaven_n and_o all_o the_o earth_n can_v yield_v it_o and_o as_o it_o be_v from_o heaven_n so_o it_o be_v of_o a_o heavenly_a virtue_n and_o will_v work_v that_o which_o all_o the_o wealth_n in_o this_o fair_a be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v therefore_o cast_v not_o to_o buy_v the_o base_a and_o let_v pass_v the_o best_a of_o all_o and_o never_o allege_v that_o it_o be_v above_o thy_o compass_n and_o be_v a_o jewel_n it_o be_v too_o dear_a and_o costly_a for_o thou_o for_o i_o offer_v it_o free_o unto_o you_o and_o to_o every_o one_o of_o you_o for_o this_o merchandise_n that_o i_o bring_v be_v of_o that_o nature_n that_o though_o some_o take_v it_o yet_o there_o be_v also_o enough_o for_o every_o one_o and_o i_o commend_v it_o repentance_n that_o if_o judgement_n do_v come_v and_o blow_v upon_o this_o nation_n and_o drive_v the_o gospel_n from_o it_o and_o it_o to_o hell_n that_o yet_o you_o may_v have_v a_o testimony_n ourselves_o in_o the_o breach_n and_o pray_v for_o the_o ignorances_n of_o the_o multitude_n and_o bewail_v their_o sin_n who_o bewail_v not_o their_o own_o so_o do_v 14._o noah_n daniel_n and_o job_n in_o their_o age_n and_o pray_v for_o the_o people_n in_o general_a calamity_n let_v we_o all_o be_v noah_n daniel_n and_o job_n in_o our_o generation_n if_o we_o do_v thus_o then_o when_o judgement_n come_v we_o shall_v either_o turn_v they_o away_o from_o our_o nation_n or_o at_o the_o least_o we_o shall_v deliver_v our_o own_o soul_n let_v we_o now_o turn_v to_o the_o lord_n in_o prayer_n and_o because_o it_o can_v be_v hope_v but_o that_o this_o our_o general_a sinfulness_n must_v needs_o end_v with_o some_o heavy_a judgement_n let_v we_o desire_v the_o lord_n still_o to_o defer_v our_o carry_v god_n word_n be_v pure_a thercfore_o pure_o to_o be_v think_v upon_o and_o to_o be_v deliver_v then_o let_v all_o that_o be_v god_n angel_n and_o will_v be_v honour_v as_o his_o angel_n and_o ambassador_n think_v it_o no_o less_o reason_n to_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n angel_n lest_o as_o many_o man_n mar_v a_o good_a tale_n in_o the_o tell_n so_o they_o take_v away_o the_o power_n before_o the_o world_n when_o man_n say_v of_o a_o preacher_n sure_o this_o man_n have_v show_v himself_o a_o proper_a scholar_n of_o good_a learning_n great_a read_n strong_a memory_n and_o good_a delivery_n preach_v and_o so_o it_o be_v and_o such_o commendation_n if_o just_a be_v not_o to_o be_v contemn_v but_o that_o that_o commend_v a_o man_n to_o the_o lord_n his_o god_n and_o to_o his_o own_o conscience_n be_v when_o he_o preach_v so_o plain_o to_o the_o capacity_n and_o so_o powerful_o to_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o wicked_a man_n as_o that_o he_o think_v doubtless_o god_n be_v within_o he_o be_v thou_o therefore_o a_o angel_n of_o god_n then_o magnify_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o not_o thyself_o in_o thy_o preach_n of_o his_o word_n the_o next_o use_n be_v for_o the_o self-conceit_n we_o see_v our_o meanness_n self_n grow_v in_o time_n in_o degree_n in_o learning_n in_o honour_n in_o name_n and_o estimation_n &_o to_o many_o of_o we_o god_n give_v good_a portion_n of_o his_o gift_n what_o be_v all_o these_o but_o so_o many_o bait_n to_o allure_v we_o to_o pride_n &_o vain_a opinion_n of_o our_o own_o worth_n but_o let_v we_o remember_v the_o end_n we_o aim_v at_o be_v not_o humane_a nor_o carnal_a our_o purpose_n be_v to_o save_v soul_n then_o the_o weapon_n of_o our_o war_n must_v not_o be_v carnal_a as_o pride_n vainglory_n 4._o and_o self-conceit_n be_v sufficient_o qualify_v for_o that_o call_n but_o alas_o this_o be_v not_o all_o there_o be_v a_o great_a work_n to_o be_v wrought_v then_o so_o he_o must_v be_v humble_v and_o cast_v down_o in_o sight_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o that_o call_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o that_o god_n who_o room_n he_o be_v to_o execute_v and_o of_o the_o unworthiness_n of_o himself_o to_o so_o great_a a_o work_n he_o must_v be_v resolve_v that_o to_o call_v a_o man_n to_o the_o ministry_n be_v the_o great_a work_n that_o god_n work_v in_o his_o church_n but_o the_o convert_n of_o a_o sinner_n and_o call_v he_o to_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n nay_o it_o be_v a_o work_n even_o like_a unto_o it_o for_o as_o a_o sinner_n in_o his_o conversion_n so_o he_o at_o his_o vocation_n to_o that_o place_n be_v often_o to_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o amazement_n of_o his_o soul_n woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v as_o therefore_o they_o be_v foul_o deceive_v which_o think_v any_o holiness_n or_o carnal_o rush_v into_o the_o pulpit_n and_o to_o god_n holy_a table_n where_o god_n be_v present_a in_o a_o far_o more_o excellent_a manner_n than_o he_o be_v in_o the_o bush_n and_o if_o they_o be_v so_o to_o be_v blame_v who_o preparation_n enter_v into_o this_o call_n without_o fear_n and_o reverence_n then_o how_o much_o more_o faulty_a be_v they_o who_o be_v minister_n dare_v venture_v to_o preach_v or_o minister_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n without_o holy_a and_o private_a preparation_n &_o sanctification_n of_o themselves_o but_o rush_v upon_o they_o as_o upon_o common_a &_o profane_a action_n whereas_o god_n be_v present_a there_o in_o a_o most_o holy_a and_o glorious_a manner_n these_o man_n sure_o will_v say_v the_o prophet_n here_o be_v of_o too_o nice_a a_o conscience_n but_o fearful_o and_o terrible_o shall_v god_n appear_v at_o last_o unto_o such_o man_n as_o care_v not_o how_o they_o appear_v in_o his_o holy_a presence_n second_o this_o show_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o christian_a church_n sermon_n who_o use_v to_o pray_v before_o the_o sermon_n &_o after_o namely_o not_o for_o decorum_n only_o &_o to_o grace_v the_o action_n but_o to_o sanctify_v and_o to_o humble_v ourselves_o because_o than_o we_o come_v before_o god_n presence_n they_o therefore_o do_v not_o think_v reverent_o enough_o of_o god_n and_o his_o presence_n who_o do_v by_o their_o practice_n in_o any_o sort_n make_v way_n to_o the_o contrary_n three_o we_o may_v here_o learn_v the_o pitiful_a sinner_n case_n of_o those_o minister_n who_o be_v so_o presumptuous_a as_o to_o exercise_v that_o holy_a function_n &_o yet_o remain_v 〈◊〉_d their_o sin_n without_o repentance_n what_o do_v these_o man_n they_o approach_v to_o the_o burn_a bush_n with_o their_o shoe_n on_o their_o foot_n that_o be_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o their_o sin_n what_o shall_v come_v of_o it_o in_o the_o end_n sure_o that_o burn_a fire_n shall_v consume_v they_o the_o least_o sin_n &_o small_a negligence_n affright_v this_o holy_a prophet_n when_o he_o shall_v go_v into_o god_n presence_n but_o these_o man_n 16._o dare_v come_v into_o the_o sanctuary_n of_o god_n yea_o dare_v take_v god_n word_n in_o their_o mouth_n be_v and_o yet_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v and_o do_v cast_v the_o glorious_a word_n of_o god_n behind_o their_o back_n which_o they_o preach_v to_o other_o with_o their_o mouth_n these_o man_n may_v wonder_v at_o this_o holy_a prophet_n niceness_n or_o else_o all_o the_o world_n may_v wonder_v at_o their_o profaneness_n a_o little_a pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n fear_v he_o to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n but_o these_o dare_v do_v it_o with_o eye_n ear_n lip_n foot_n hand_n hart_n and_o all_o pollute_a their_o eye_n pollute_v with_o careless_a look_v at_o all_o vanity_n their_o ear_n with_o hear_v and_o their_o lip_n with_o speak_v wanton_a &_o wicked_a talk_n their_o foot_n with_o run_v into_o wicked_a company_n their_o hand_n with_o practise_v and_o their_o heart_n with_o devise_v and_o consent_v fruitless_a to_o all_o wickedness_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o the_o labour_n of_o such_o man_n be_v almost_o unprofitable_a because_o they_o life_n of_o the_o most_o but_o contrariwise_o some_o fall_n to_o atheism_n some_o to_o papism_n some_o into_o foul_a sin_n not_o to_o be_v name_v among_o christian_o where_o be_v the_o cause_n sure_o not_o in_o the_o good_a gospel_n nor_o in_o our_o doctrine_n nor_o in_o the_o teach_n of_o it_o but_o one_o very_o principal_a cause_n be_v many_o minister_n come_v into_o god_n presence_n unsanctified_a &_o in_o their_o sin_n not_o care_v how_o loose_o they_o live_v in_o the_o face_n of_o their_o people_n and_o therefore_o god_n in_o justice_n though_o he_o instant_o smite_v not_o they_o with_o visible_a vengeance_n for_o their_o presumption_n yet_o he_o smite_v the_o judgement_n people_n with_o spiritual_a blindness_n that_o they_o regard_v not_o their_o doctrine_n but_o look_v at_o their_o life_n and_o do_v rather_o follow_v the_o profaneness_n of_o the_o one_o than_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o other_o minister_n be_v such_o in_o who_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v therefore_o because_o they_o do_v not_o so_o but_o dishonour_v he_o by_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n in_o their_o sin_n therefore_o he_o can_v abide_v they_o nor_o give_v any_o blessing_n to_o their_o labour_n all_o minister_n therefore_o as_o they_o will_v see_v any_o fruit_n of_o their_o ministry_n let_v they_o first_o sanctify_v themselves_o &_o cleanse_v their_o heart_n by_o repentance_n afore_o they_o presume_v to_o stand_v up_o to_o rebuke_v sin_n in_o other_o else_o let_v they_o not_o think_v that_o life_n their_o golden_a word_n shall_v do_v so_o much_o good_a as_o their_o leaden_a life_n shall_v do_v hurt_v and_o they_o may_v happen_v to_o confirm_v man_n that_o already_o be_v convert_v but_o hardly_o shall_v any_o such_o man_n convert_v any_o soul_n from_o popery_n or_o profaneness_n and_o it_o be_v a_o vain_a conceit_n for_o man_n to_o imagine_v there_o be_v any_o force_n in_o eloquence_n or_o humane_a learning_n to_o overthrow_v that_o sin_n in_o other_o which_o rule_v and_o reign_v in_o themselves_o our_o church_n and_o all_o reform_a church_n may_v make_v use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n for_o it_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o a_o church_n to_o have_v their_o doctrine_n powerful_a &_o effectual_a for_o the_o win_n of_o soul_n therefore_o it_o concern_v they_o to_o take_v order_n as_o well_o that_o their_o minister_n be_v godly_a man_n as_o good_a scholar_n &_o their_o life_n inoffensive_a as_o well_o as_o their_o doctrine_n sound_n or_o else_o they_o will_v find_v in_o woeful_a experience_n that_o they_o pull_v down_o as_o much_o with_o the_o one_o hand_n as_o they_o build_v up_o with_o the_o other_o but_o most_o near_o this_o doctrine_n touch_v minister_n themselves_o who_o must_v know_v their_o case_n be_v most_o fearful_a of_o all_o man_n if_o they_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o their_o profaneness_n for_o as_o no_o man_n be_v more_o honourable_a than_o a_o learned_a and_o holy_a minister_n so_o none_o more_o contemptible_a in_o this_o world_n none_o more_o miserable_a for_o that_o to_o come_v than_o he_o that_o by_o his_o loose_a &_o lewd_a life_n do_v scandalize_v his_o doctrine_n and_o let_v he_o assure_v himself_o that_o for_o his_o presumption_n in_o rush_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o his_o sin_n he_o shall_v in_o this_o world_n be_v cast_v out_o as_o unsavoury_a salt_n 13._o and_o tread_v down_o of_o man_n with_o the_o foot_n of_o contempt_n and_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v he_o shall_v above_o all_o man_n cry_v out_o in_o most_o extreme_a torment_n of_o conscience_n wâ—_n be_v i_o that_o my_o eye_n must_v see_v the_o king_n and_o lord_n of_o host_n and_o so_o because_o he_o will_v not_o in_o this_o world_n come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o sanctification_n and_o holiness_n he_o shall_v therefore_o in_o fear_n and_o horror_n be_v hale_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n glory_n at_o the_o last_o day_n there_o to_o receive_v the_o just_a sentence_n of_o his_o condemnation_n last_o all_o painful_a and_o godly_a minister_n may_v receive_v comfort_n not_o to_o be_v duty_n discourage_v or_o drive_v from_o god_n presence_n because_o of_o their_o corruption_n or_o infirmity_n for_o we_o see_v it_o be_v the_o prophet_n case_n but_o let_v they_o still_o approach_v in_o fear_n and_o reverence_n and_o be_v
apply_v their_o doctrine_n to_o their_o audience_n in_o such_o manner_n as_o the_o circumstance_n of_o place_n time_n or_o person_n do_v require_v some_o minister_n come_v to_o a_o ignorant_a and_o unhumbled_a people_n and_o teach_v they_o the_o gospel_n which_o never_o know_v the_o law_n here_o the_o fiery_a coal_n be_v use_v but_o the_o lip_n be_v not_o touch_v that_o be_v good_a doctrine_n teach_v but_o not_o well_o apply_v for_o that_o the_o law_n shall_v first_o be_v lay_v to_o their_o conscience_n other_o beat_v all_o upon_o the_o law_n when_o it_o may_v be_v their_o hearer_n be_v a_o people_n sufficient_o cast_v down_o and_o have_v more_o need_n to_o be_v raise_v up_o with_o the_o sweet_a comfort_n of_o the_o gospel_n other_o use_v to_o lay_v open_a the_o nakedness_n of_o the_o court_n in_o the_o country_n and_o to_o reprove_v the_o fault_n of_o prince_n and_o great_a magistrate_n before_o the_o common_a people_n who_o have_v more_o need_n of_o the_o catechism_n other_o bring_v the_o catechism_n or_o point_n of_o ordinary_a instruction_n into_o the_o court_n where_o the_o duty_n of_o king_n and_o councillor_n shall_v be_v teach_v in_o all_o plainness_n and_o sincerity_n other_o bring_v their_o new_a opinion_n or_o controversall_a point_n unto_o popular_a audience_n which_o indeed_o be_v fit_a for_o the_o school_n other_o busy_a themselves_o about_o ceremony_n when_o the_o substance_n be_v in_o danger_n to_o be_v lose_v all_o these_o have_v it_o may_v be_v the_o coal_n of_o fire_n but_o it_o be_v misapply_v and_o not_o apply_v to_o the_o pollute_a lip_n let_v all_o minister_n therefore_o learn_v this_o point_n of_o wisdom_n of_o the_o angel_n to_o apply_v the_o medicine_n of_o their_o doctrine_n to_o the_o time_n person_n and_o place_n which_o be_v infect_v so_o shall_v they_o be_v sure_a not_o to_o take_v pain_n in_o vain_a and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o circumstance_n of_o his_o consolation_n it_o follow_v in_o the_o main_a point_n be_v that_o for_o the_o prophet_n consolation_n the_o angel_n tell_v he_o his_o iniquity_n shall_v be_v take_v away_o and_o his_o sin_n purge_v as_o thereby_o he_o have_v say_v thy_o he_o into_o god_n presence_n and_o there_o to_o arraign_v he_o for_o those_o sin_n until_o the_o view_n of_o the_o foulness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n justice_n have_v sufficient_o humble_v he_o and_o then_o to_o labour_v to_o persuade_v his_o conscience_n upon_o good_a ground_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o those_o sin_n by_o christ_n jesus_n this_o be_v the_o way_n that_o god_n use_v and_o devise_v this_o be_v the_o sure_a way_n that_o can_v fail_v some_o think_v that_o all_o trouble_n of_o mind_n be_v nothing_o but_o melancholy_a and_o therefore_o psalm_n think_v nothing_o needs_o but_o physic_n and_o outward_a comfort_n but_o he_o that_o consider_v in_o what_o case_n the_o prophet_n here_o be_v or_o david_n when_o he_o make_v the_o 6._o the_o 32._o or_o the_o 51._o psalm_n will_v be_v of_o another_o mind_n and_o will_v find_v that_o nothing_o can_v proper_o trouble_v the_o mind_n but_o sin_n therefore_o as_o the_o wise_a physician_n in_o his_o cure_n first_o search_v out_o the_o cause_n and_o then_o endeavour_n to_o take_v it_o away_o so_o the_o good_a physician_n of_o the_o soul_n must_v first_o of_o all_o search_n into_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o sickness_n that_o be_v his_o sin_n and_o must_v take_v they_o away_o which_o if_o they_o do_v not_o than_o all_o their_o labour_n be_v lose_v for_o all_o the_o company_n music_n recreation_n wine_n diet_n nay_o all_o worldly_a comfort_n &_o delight_n if_o it_o be_v the_o advancement_n to_o a_o kingdom_n can_v so_o much_o comfort_v the_o distress_a soul_n of_o a_o sinner_n as_o this_o voice_n of_o a_o minister_n speak_v from_o god_n upon_o good_a ground_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o now_o to_o lay_v down_o what_o be_v those_o true_a and_o good_a ground_n whereupon_o a_o minister_n may_v conscience_n safe_o and_o comfortable_o pronounce_v pardon_n of_o sin_n to_o a_o sinner_n belong_v proper_o to_o another_o place_n in_o the_o next_o place_n let_v we_o here_o observe_v repent_v how_o the_o lord_n afore_o he_o renew_v the_o prophet_n commission_n or_o send_v he_o to_o preach_v to_o the_o people_n first_o humble_v he_o for_o his_o sin_n and_o then_o upon_o his_o repentance_n give_v he_o pardon_v teach_v we_o that_o no_o minister_n be_v well_o qualify_v to_o the_o holy_a duty_n of_o the_o ministry_n unless_o he_o have_v true_o repent_v of_o his_o sin_n and_o have_v obtain_v pardon_n and_o mercy_n in_o the_o messiah_n minister_n labour_n for_o qualification_n but_o the_o true_a minister_n of_o god_n will_v labour_v for_o this_o qualification_n above_o all_o other_o for_o doubtless_o he_o shall_v pronounce_v most_o powerful_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n to_o other_o to_o who_o conscience_n god_n have_v pronounce_v pardon_n of_o his_o own_o in_o the_o last_o place_n let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o prophet_n be_v to_o be_v comfort_v before_o they_o he_o go_v this_o new_a embassage_n the_o lord_n be_v so_o careful_a for_o he_o that_o rather_o than_o he_o be_v not_o comfort_v if_o there_o be_v no_o man_n to_o do_v it_o a_o angel_n shall_v be_v send_v to_o be_v his_o comforter_n &_o if_o there_o be_v not_o another_o prophet_n to_o but_o for_o other_o quality_n they_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v plotter_n &_o practiser_n in_o statematter_n spy_n or_o intelligencer_n reconciler_n seducer_n and_o subverter_n than_o minister_n and_o fit_a to_o be_v instrument_n of_o policy_n to_o evil_a king_n than_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n unto_o god_n but_o take_v away_o they_o and_o some_o few_o select_a monk_n and_o those_o but_o few_o out_o of_o many_o thousand_o &_o then_o even_o for_o learning_n also_o god_n may_v cry_v and_o call_v &_o proclaim_v in_o their_o monastery_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o if_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n and_o misery_n to_o a_o church_n to_o want_v such_o as_o god_n may_v send_v or_o to_o have_v but_o a_o few_o than_o the_o romish_a church_n be_v shameless_a which_o shame_v not_o to_o have_v so_o many_o and_o yet_o among_o they_o all_o who_o god_n may_v send_v almost_o none_o in_o the_o next_o place_n by_o this_o inquiry_n and_o question_v make_v by_o god_n who_o shall_v he_o i_o send_v and_o who_o he_o even_o so_o all_o good_a minister_n be_v to_o stay_v god_n call_v if_o any_o ask_v how_o he_o shall_v know_v when_o call_n god_n call_v he_o i_o answer_v god_n call_v ordinary_o by_o his_o church_n her_o voice_n be_v he_o therefore_o whensoever_o the_o church_n of_o god_n say_v unto_o thou_o thou_o shall_v be_v send_v and_o â—â—ou_fw-mi shall_v go_v for_o we_o even_o than_o do_v the_o lord_n call_v we_o out_o to_o this_o holy_a function_n think_v three_o let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o lord_n say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_n &_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o some_o interpreter_n fit_a nor_o sound_a collection_n rather_o in_o my_o opinion_n we_o person_n may_v safe_o collect_v and_o conclude_v out_o of_o these_o word_n i_o and_o we_o that_o there_o be_v more_o person_n in_o the_o trinity_n than_o one_o for_o first_o god_n the_o father_n or_o the_o whole_a deity_n say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o then_o change_v the_o number_n he_o say_v who_o shall_v go_v for_o uâ—_n for_o howsoever_o god_n may_v employ_v in_o the_o word_n we_o that_o he_o that_o be_v send_v to_o preach_v be_v send_v as_o well_o for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n as_o for_o his_o own_o glory_n yet_o can_v it_o not_o be_v deny_v but_o that_o the_o plural_a number_n here_o and_o else_o where_o ascribe_v to_o the_o deity_n must_v needs_o argue_v a_o certain_a plurality_n of_o person_n in_o that_o deity_n as_o in_o genesis_n it_o be_v write_v that_o god_n say_v let_v we_o make_v man_n and_o here_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o 16._o out_o of_o the_o evidence_n of_o which_o place_n see_v the_o enemy_n of_o this_o doctrine_n must_v needs_o grant_v a_o plurality_n namely_o that_o there_o be_v more_o than_o one_o then_o we_o shall_v sufficient_o prove_v out_o of_o other_o place_n and_o here_o he_o go_v for_o i_o and_o so_o say_v the_o apostle_n of_o himself_o &_o all_o other_o good_a minister_n that_o they_o be_v god_n labourer_n and_o in_o another_o place_n the_o angel_n of_o 23._o god_n appear_v who_o i_o be_o and_o who_o i_o serve_v but_o if_o any_o man_n think_v that_o either_o god_n speak_v too_o favourable_o of_o they_o or_o s._n paul_n too_o partial_o of_o themselves_o then_o let_v the_o devil_n himself_o be_v 23._o judge_n in_o this_o case_n who_o plain_o &_o free_o confess_v though_o he_o do_v it_o not_o in_o love_n to_o the_o truth_n or_o they_o these_o man_n
