full_o of_o necessity_n &_o ignorance_n endure_v with_o a_o serene_a countenance_n their_o importunity_n &_o rudeness_n and_o give_v ear_n and_o satisfaction_n to_o their_o question_n and_o benign_o instruct_v they_o in_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v fit_a for_o they_o to_o be_v know_v by_o they_o according_a to_o the_o capacity_n of_o every_o one_o and_o remove_v the_o ignorance_n wherein_o sweetness_n of_o mercy_n and_o benignity_n and_o not_o with_o too_o much_o rigour_n and_o severity_n lest_o himself_o also_o grow_v both_o to_o be_v tempt_v and_o conquer_v this_o in_o substance_n much_o importunity_n for_o they_o who_o have_v child_n be_v many_o and_o do_v so_o much_o esteem_v this_o good_a of_o their_o child_n that_o no_o man_n will_v want_v it_o by_o his_o will_n and_o every_o one_o desire_v to_o prevent_v his_o neighbour_n and_o be_v the_o first_o to_o get_v a_o blessing_n for_o his_o son_n the_o apostle_n see_v this_o and_o conceive_v that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n unworthy_a of_o the_o authority_n and_o gravity_n of_o our_o lord_n to_o employ_v himself_o upon_o such_o a_o light_n and_o mean_a thing_n as_o this_o and_o thereby_o to_o hinder_v great_a matter_n &_o think_v also_o that_o because_o the_o exercise_n be_v so_o frequent_a and_o use_v with_o so_o great_a importunity_n and_o ill_a manner_n by_o those_o parent_n who_o bring_v their_o child_n that_o our_o lord_n will_v be_v trouble_v and_o vex_v thereby_o do_v use_v severe_o to_o reprehend_v such_o as_o bring_v the_o child_n and_o will_v shake_v they_o off_o as_o threaten_v they_o that_o so_o they_o may_v not_o come_v to_o our_o lord_n so_o say_v saint_n chrysostome_n give_v a_o reason_n thereof_o the_o disciple_n drive_v away_o the_o little_a child_n and_o forbid_v they_o to_o come_v to_o our_o lord_n in_o respect_n of_o his_o dignity_n and_o the_o authority_n of_o his_o person_n and_o s._n hierome_n declare_v another_o reason_n say_v the_o disciple_n think_v that_o as_o other_o man_n not_o ill_a yet_o he_o like_v it_o not_o because_o it_o be_v not_o so_o agreeable_a to_o the_o divine_a spirit_n of_o the_o same_o lord_n but_o to_o the_o humane_a spirit_n of_o the_o disciple_n and_o show_v both_o by_o his_o countenance_n and_o his_o word_n that_o he_o like_v it_o not_o he_o call_v &_o reprehend_v they_o say_v suffer_v little_a child_n to_o come_v to_o i_o and_o do_v not_o hinder_v they_o for_o of_o such_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n i_o mean_v that_o heaven_n do_v belong_v not_o only_o to_o those_o little_a child_n for_o the_o purity_n innocency_n and_o grace_n they_o have_v but_o that_o the_o same_o kidgdom_n of_o heaven_n shall_v be_v also_o give_v to_o man_n who_o in_o their_o practice_n of_o humility_n simplicity_n and_o purity_n of_o life_n will_v become_v like_o little_a child_n and_o so_o for_o that_o which_o little_a child_n be_v in_o their_o own_o person_n by_o divine_a grace_n which_o be_v to_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n &_o worthy_a of_o heaven_n and_o for_o that_o also_o which_o they_o represent_v in_o other_o namely_o to_o be_v man_n who_o be_v humble_a innocent_a and_o pure_a who_o i_o love_v and_o esteem_n much_o and_o embrace_v with_o my_o very_a bowel_n and_o bless_v with_o my_o gift_n therefore_o will_v i_o suffer_v they_o to_o approache_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v admit_v they_o to_o my_o embracement_n and_o blessing_n and_o therefore_o see_v you_o give_v they_o no_o impediment_n in_o come_v our_o lord_n have_v thus_o reprehend_v his_o disciple_n he_o call_v they_o who_o bring_v the_o child_n and_o make_v large_a space_n of_o time_n in_o this_o so_o mean_a exercise_n and_o not_o only_o do_v christ_n our_o lord_n discover_v his_o benignity_n to_o we_o by_o this_o proceed_n but_o he_o manifest_v it_o to_o be_v so_o great_a and_o so_o admirable_a that_o it_o do_v incomparable_o exceed_v all_o that_o which_o man_n can_v conceive_v and_o believe_v thereof_o for_o although_o it_o be_v much_o which_o the_o apostle_n know_v of_o the_o benignity_n and_o piety_n and_o meekness_n of_o our_o lord_n yet_o they_o can_v not_o believe_v or_o understand_v how_o it_o can_v possible_o arrive_v so_o far_o as_o this_o but_o do_v rather_o think_v that_o our_o lord_n be_v to_o disdain_v such_o a_o poor_a employment_n and_o that_o he_o will_v be_v trouble_v and_o offend_v by_o the_o disquiet_n and_o give_v they_o spiritual_a life_n and_o strength_n and_o free_v they_o from_o the_o mortal_a distemper_n of_o anger_n and_o hatred_n and_o other_o passion_n and_o this_o be_v wrought_v by_o that_o man_n who_o give_v good_a language_n thronugh_v the_o much_o gain_n and_o merit_n which_o they_o get_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o almighty_a god_n and_o in_o they_o also_o who_o hear_v the_o good_a speech_n which_o be_v use_v by_o any_o man_n of_o his_o neighbour_n work_v the_o like_a effect_n for_o thereby_o they_o be_v edify_v and_o induce_v towards_o a_o love_n of_o virtue_n the_o fourteen_o chapter_n how_o we_o be_v to_o exercise_v this_o benignity_n and_o to_o use_v this_o good_a manner_n towards_o they_o who_o use_v we_o ill_o some_o christian_n there_o be_v who_o be_v very_o courteous_a and_o well_o condition_v towards_o their_o neighbour_n as_o long_o as_o those_o neighbour_n treat_v they_o with_o the_o same_o courtesy_n and_o civility_n but_o if_o their_o neighbour_n fail_v towards_o they_o they_o also_o fail_v and_o then_o they_o treat_v they_o with_o the_o same_o discourtesy_n and_o disgrace_n wherewith_o they_o be_v treat_v and_o they_o use_v the_o same_o ill_a term_n which_o be_v use_v to_o they_o this_o be_v no_o good_a but_o a_o ill_a spirit_n for_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v well_o condition_v towards_o my_o neighbour_n because_o he_o also_o be_v so_o to_o i_o be_v no_o love_n of_o charity_n but_o a_o love_n of_o interest_n and_o concupiscence_n and_o that_o i_o shall_v fail_v in_o courtesy_n and_o good_a condition_n towards_o another_o because_o he_o fall_v short_a therein_o towards_o i_o be_v not_o the_o virtue_n of_o benignity_n but_o it_o be_v the_o vice_n of_o revenge_n that_o which_o charity_n and_o benignity_n require_v and_o which_o god_n exact_v at_o our_o hand_n be_v that_o although_o another_o man_n do_v not_o what_o he_o ought_v yet_o i_o do_v and_o that_o although_o another_o man_n shall_v fail_v of_o use_v i_o with_o due_a courtesy_n yet_o that_o i_o fail_v not_o thereof_o towards_o he_o for_o by_o this_o mean_n it_o will_v appear_v that_o in_o the_o civility_n which_o i_o use_v towards_o my_o neighbour_n i_o be_o not_o move_v by_o humane_a respect_n but_o for_o the_o love_n of_o almighty_a god_n and_o that_o i_o pretend_v not_o proper_a honour_n or_o interest_n but_o the_o glory_n of_o almighty_a god_n and_o the_o profit_n of_o my_o soul_n and_o the_o edification_n of_o my_o neighbour_n and_o in_o this_o sort_n i_o be_v of_o good_a condition_n and_o show_v courtesy_n towards_o he_o who_o do_v not_o so_o to_o i_o i_o shall_v please_v almighty_a god_n much_o the_o more_o for_o i_o shall_v move_v more_o pure_o for_o the_o love_n of_o he_o and_o shall_v exercise_v more_o virtue_n and_o increase_v merit_n and_o gain_v more_o reward_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n for_o together_o with_o the_o benignity_n which_o i_o shall_v exercise_v by_o carry_v myself_o sweet_o towards_o my_o neighbour_n i_o shall_v also_o exercise_v patience_n and_o humility_n in_o bear_v with_o his_o ill_a condition_n and_o i_o shall_v exercise_v more_o charity_n by_o pardon_v the_o injury_n which_o he_o do_v i_o in_o treat_v i_o ill_o this_o be_v teach_v we_o by_o the_o apostle_n saint_n paul_n with_o a_o kind_n of_o heavenly_a invention_n associate_a benignity_n and_o patience_n in_o suffer_v injury_n with_o charity_n not_o contrary_a to_o benignity_n to_o reprehend_v wicked_a and_o obstinate_a person_n in_o their_o wickedness_n severe_o as_o christ_n our_o lord_n do_v it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v note_v concern_v this_o virtue_n of_o benignity_n which_o christ_n our_o lord_n teach_v we_o both_o by_o his_o word_n and_o by_o his_o example_n that_o there_o be_v some_o both_o say_n and_o deed_n of_o christ_n our_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n which_o to_o ignorant_a person_n may_v seem_v contrary_a to_o this_o benignity_n but_o which_o yet_o be_v not_o contrary_a but_o very_o agreeable_a thereunto_o for_o charity_n which_o teach_v we_o that_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o good_a of_o soul_n we_o must_v use_v this_o benignity_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n of_o speak_v to_o they_o in_o kind_n &_o gentle_a word_n the_o same_o teach_v we_o also_o that_o when_o we_o have_v authority_n in_o our_o hand_n we_o may_v use_v word_n so_o severe_a and_o prick_v in_o some_o case_n towards_o public_a and_o obstinate_a sinner_n and_o who_o by_o their_o ill_a example_n be_v pernicious_a to_o other_o as_o may_v discover_v the_o grievousnes_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o may_v disgrace_v and_o condemn_v they_o say_v before_o that_o as_o no_o humane_a invention_n or_o mean_n be_v able_a to_o make_v the_o natural_a day_n one_o minute_n short_a than_o it_o be_v so_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o mean_n to_o shorten_v his_o life_n by_o one_o minute_n and_o therefore_o the_o substance_n of_o what_o he_o say_v be_v this_o during_o all_o that_o time_n of_o my_o life_n which_o be_v give_v i_o by_o the_o determination_n of_o my_o eternal_a father_n i_o shall_v converse_v in_o this_o world_n and_o do_v those_o work_n for_o which_o he_o send_v i_o which_o be_v to_o teach_v truth_n &_o to_o cast_v
