say_v wherefore_o let_v such_o action_n pass_v as_o they_o shall_v notwithstanding_o it_o be_v to_o be_v say_v and_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v touch_v all_o good_a work_n of_o this_o latter_a kind_n be_v good_a work_n even_o poor_a widow_n maintain_v by_o the_o church_n both_o may_v and_o
acknowledge_v his_o fault_n and_o desire_v pardon_n and_o reconciliation_n this_o be_v express_o our_o lord_n doctrine_n matth._n 5._o 23_o 24._o therefore_o if_o thou_o bring_v thy_o gift_n to_o and_o aught_o to_o have_v recourse_n to_o their_o spiritual_a guide_n who_o may_v direct_v they_o in_o true_a full_a and_o more_o sufficient_a method_n of_o repentance_n instruct_v they_o in_o the_o promise_v of_o pardon_n and_o pray_v with_o they_o and_o for_o they_o that_o they_o may_v obtain_v it_o but_o in_o this_o case_n we_o be_v now_o speak_v to_o confession_n to_o a_o minister_n stand_v in_o the_o church_n as_o a_o act_n of_o christian_a discretion_n and_o free_a choice_n not_o of_o absolute_a and_o perpetual_a necessity_n much_o less_o be_v it_o in_o all_o case_n of_o mortal_a sin_n far_o of_o confession_n whether_o to_o god_n or_o man_n as_o a_o three_o step_v to_o or_o concomitant_a of_o repentance_n §_o 11._o a_o four_o and_o the_o most_o necessary_a of_o all_o and_z which_o of_o all_o yet_o mention_v near_o approach_v to_o or_o even_o enter_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o true_a repentance_n be_v forsake_v sin_n that_o be_v break_v off_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o and_o nothing_o of_o laziness_n put_v off_o and_o total_o neglect_v duty_n as_o well_o as_o habit_n of_o do_v evil_a habit_n of_o common_a sloth_n and_o habit_n of_o spiritual_a sloth_n or_o of_o be_v backward_o to_o dull_a and_o slow_a in_o all_o holy_a duty_n as_o well_o as_o habit_n of_o excess_n in_o eat_v drink_v apparel_z sleep_n etc._n etc._n habit_n too_o perhaps_o of_o covetousness_n of_o voluptuousness_n of_o ambition_n of_o pride_n with_o general_a inordinacy_n of_o passion_n all_o these_o and_o other_o like_a true_a repentance_n break_v a_o man_n of_o so_o that_o this_o our_o four_o step_n will_v contain_v in_o it_o two_o particular_n or_o a_o negative_a and_o positive_a part_n according_a to_o the_o prophet_n a_o cease_v to_o do_v evil_a and_o learning_n to_o do_v well_o or_o the_o abandon_v the_o old_a conversation_n all_o sinful_a life_n and_o practice_n and_o the_o endeavour_n and_o practice_n of_o such_o virtue_n and_o duty_n which_o we_o before_o neglect_v or_o which_o be_v most_o contrary_a to_o our_o former_a evil_n in_o the_o language_n of_o the_o apostle_n ephes_n 4._o 22_o 23._o put_v off_o concern_v the_o former_a conversation_n the_o old_a man_n which_o be_v corrupt_a according_a to_o the_o deceitful_a lust_n and_o be_v renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o indeed_o the_o necessity_n and_o method_n of_o practise_v of_o both_o
