tempest_n of_o the_o lack_v or_o be_v without_o comfort_n the_o ix_o chapter_n it_o be_v no_o hard_a matter_n to_o despise_v worldly_a comfort_n so_o long_o as_o god_n comfort_n be_v present_a with_o thou_o but_o to_o be_v able_a to_o lack_v both_o worldly_a and_o heavenly_a comfort_n and_o willing_o to_o suffer_v the_o banishment_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o to_o be_v affectionate_a toward_o himself_o in_o nothing_o nor_o yet_o to_o behold_v his_o own_o merit_n or_o reward_v this_o sure_o be_v a_o great_a matter_n or_o rather_o the_o great_a of_o all_o other_o what_o great_a thing_n be_v it_o if_o whilst_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n be_v with_o thou_o thou_o be_v cheerful_a and_o godly_a who_o will_v not_o wish_v for_o that_o hour_n as_o well_o as_o thyself_o pleasant_o do_v he_o ride_v who_o god_n grace_n do_v carry_v &_o what_o wonder_n be_v it_o if_o he_o feel_v no_o burden_n that_o be_v carry_v of_o the_o almighty_a and_o conduct_v of_o the_o high_a guide_n glad_o do_v we_o cleave_v fast_o unto_o the_o comfort_n of_o some_o creature_n and_o hard_o do_v man_n renounce_v and_o forsake_v himself_o yea_o much_o and_o long_a time_n must_v he_o fight_v or_o strive_v before_o he_o learn_v full_o to_o master_n himself_o &_o to_o draw_v all_o his_o power_n unto_o god_n so_o long_o as_o he_o stay_v upon_o his_o own_o self_n he_o quick_o fall_v unto_o worldly_a comfort_n but_o the_o true_a lover_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o studious_a follower_n of_o virtue_n do_v not_o turn_v unto_o those_o comfort_n nor_o seek_v after_o such_o delight_n of_o the_o sense_n but_o rather_o for_o vehement_a exercise_n &_o for_o straight_a labour_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n therefore_o if_o at_o any_o time_n spiritual_a comfort_n be_v grant_v thou_o of_o god_n receive_v thou_o the_o same_o with_o thanksgiving_n and_o weet_v thou_o that_o it_o be_v god_n gift_n and_o not_o thy_o deserve_n and_o be_v not_o proud_a thereat_o rejoice_v not_o to_o much_o at_o thy_o gift_n nor_o wax_v proud_a vain_o but_o be_v rather_o so_o much_o the_o more_o modest_a and_o in_o all_o thy_o deed_n also_o the_o more_o wary_a and_o fearful_a for_o the_o time_n of_o that_o comfort_n shall_v pass_v away_o and_o temptation_n shall_v come_v after_o therefore_o when_o comfort_n hand_n be_v take_v from_o thou_o despair_v not_o forthwith_o but_o look_v after_o help_v at_o god_n hand_n with_o modesty_n and_o patience_n for_o god_n be_v able_a to_o endue_v thou_o again_o with_o a_o more_o ample_a gift_n &_o great_a comfort_n neither_o be_v this_o thing_n strange_a or_o unwonted_a unto_o they_o that_o have_v once_o make_v trial_n of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n for_o man_n of_o great_a virtue_n and_o the_o ancient_a prophet_n have_v assay_v and_o feel_v such_o alteration_n in_o themselves_o therefore_o a_o certain_a man_n endue_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n say_v thus_o while_o i_o be_v in_o so_o great_a felicity_n i_o think_v i_o shall_v never_o have_v be_v disgrace_v again_o and_o when_o the_o same_o felicity_n be_v once_o take_v away_o from_o he_o he_o add_v what_o then_o happen_v unto_o he_o in_o these_o word_n afterward_o when_o thou_o do_v hide_v thy_o face_n from_o i_o i_o be_v trouble_v and_o yet_o all_o this_o while_n he_o despair_v not_o but_o pray_v unto_o god_n so_o much_o
the_o more_o earnest_o and_o say_v thus_o i_o have_v make_v my_o invocation_n unto_o thou_o oh_o lord_n i_o have_v make_v supplication_n unto_o the_o lord_n at_o the_o last_o he_o have_v the_o reward_n of_o his_o supplication_n and_o testify_v that_o he_o be_v hear_v say_v the_o lord_n have_v hear_v i_o and_o take_v pity_n upon_o i_o but_o wherein_o i_o pray_v you_o thou_o say_v he_o have_v turn_v my_o sorrow_n into_o mirth_n &_o rid_v i_o from_o my_o sackcloth_n have_v clad_v i_o with_o joy_n now_o if_o these_o thing_n have_v happen_v to_o man_n of_o so_o great_a holiness_n we_o abject_n &_o needy_a person_n must_v not_o despair_v although_o sometime_o we_o be_v in_o cold_a and_o sometime_o we_o be_v in_o cold_a and_o sometime_o in_o heat_n forasmuch_o as_o the_o spirit_n come_v and_o go_v according_a to_o his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n and_o for_o that_o cause_n job_n say_v thou_o set_v so_o much_o store_n by_o he_o that_o thou_o have_v a_o regard_n over_o he_o and_o daily_o do_v care_v for_o he_o and_o make_v proof_n or_o trial_n of_o he_o every_o hour_n therefore_o in_o what_o thing_n else_o ought_v i_o to_o have_v hope_n or_o whereunto_o else_o ought_v i_o to_o trust_v but_o only_o to_o that_o mighty_a mercy_n of_o god_n and_o heavenly_a grace_n for_o though_o i_o have_v good_a man_n and_o godly_a brethren_n and_o faithful_a friend_n or_o book_n of_o holy_a scripture_n and_o trim_a communication_n or_o sweet_a song_n and_o ballad_n with_o i_o yet_o do_v all_o these_o thing_n little_a profit_n they_o like_v i_o but_o a_o little_a if_o be_v forsake_v of_o god_n spirit_n i_o be_v leave_v unto_o my_o own_o need_n or_o nakedness_n at_o that_o time_n there_o be_v no_o better_a remedy_n than_o patience_n and_o denial_n of_o thyself_o according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n sure_o i_o never_o chance_v to_o talk_v with_o any_o godly_a person_n from_o who_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v not_o sometime_o be_v withdraw_v or_o which_o have_v not_o feel_v a_o decrease_n of_o his_o heat_n neither_o have_v there_o ever_o be_v any_o holy_a man_n so_o deep_o ravish_v &_o lighten_v in_o soul_n but_o that_o the_o same_o have_v some_o time_n at_o the_o least_o be_v tempt_v either_o first_o or_o last_o for_o he_o be_v not_o worthy_a the_o high_a contemplation_n of_o god_n who_o for_o god_n cause_n have_v not_o be_v exercise_v with_o some_o misery_n for_o the_o temptation_n go_v before_o be_v wont_v to_o be_v a_o token_n of_o the_o comfort_n that_o come_v after_o for_o heavenly_a comfort_n be_v promise_v unto_o they_o which_o have_v be_v try_v with_o temptation_n he_o that_o shall_v overcome_v say_v christ_n to_o he_o will_v i_o grant_v to_o feed_v upon_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n and_o god_n comfort_n be_v grant_v that_o man_n may_v be_v more_o strong_a to_o bear_v out_o adversity_n and_o temptation_n do_v follow_v lest_o he_o shall_v be_v to_o proud_a of_o that_o good_a commodity_n the_o devil_n sleep_v not_o neither_o be_v the_o flesh_n yet_o mortify_v and_o therefore_o never_o cease_v to_o prepare_v thyself_o to_o battle_n for_o the_o unquiet_a enemy_n be_v both_o upon_o thy_o right_a hand_n &_o thy_o left_a of_o dishonest_a or_o vain_a but_o the_o spiritual_a be_v only_o pleasant_a only_o honest_a only_a causer_n of_o virtue_n and_o inspire_v of_o god_n into_o pure_a mind_n but_o these_o comfort_n of_o god_o be_v such_o that_o no_o man_n can_v enjoy_v they_o at_o his_o own_o pleasure_n because_o temptation_n do_v no_o long_a time_n cease_v the_o false_a liberty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o overmuch_o confidence_n of_o a_o man_n own_o self_n do_v much_o withstand_v the_o heavenly_a help_n or_o comfort_n &_o god_n do_v well_o which_o bestow_v the_o benefit_n of_o his_o comfort_n upon_o man_n but_o man_n do_v naught_o that_o do_v not_o acknowledge_v the_o same_o whole_o to_o come_v from_o god_n with_o thanksgiving_n hereupon_o it_o happen_v that_o god_n gift_n can_v not_o flow_v unto_o we_o because_o we_o be_v unthankful_a to_o the_o giver_n and_o do_v not_o pour_v back_o all_o thing_n into_o the_o fountain_n and_o spring_n again_o he_o that_o be_v thankful_a do_v procure_v a_o new_a benefit_n and_o that_o be_v withdraw_v from_o the_o haughty_a unthankful_a which_o may_v be_v bestow_v upon_o the_o modest_a thankful_a i_o will_v not_o have_v comfort_n that_o shall_v take_v from_o i_o the_o prick_v of_o awe_n neither_o be_v that_o the_o cause_n of_o understanding_n of_o thing_n which_o hoist_v i_o up_o into_o pride_n for_o whatsoever_o be_v high_a the_o same_o be_v not_o also_o holy_a neither_o be_v every_o desire_n pure_a neither_o be_v the_o same_o healthful_a whatsoever_o be_v sweet_a neither_o be_v the_o same_o also_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n whatsoever_o be_v dear_a unto_o man_n i_o receive_v those_o benefit_n willing_o by_o the_o which_o i_o may_v be_v make_v the_o more_o modest_a and_o fearful_a and_o more_o ready_a to_o give_v over_o and_o forsake_v myself_o he_o that_o be_v teach_v and_o chastise_v with_o benefit_n receive_v at_o god_n hand_n and_o the_o same_o afterward_o be_v take_v from_o he_o again_o the_o same_o dare_v not_o to_o attribute_v any_o goodness_n unto_o himself_o but_o rather_o confess_v himself_o needy_a and_o naked_a give_v unto_o god_o that_o which_o be_v god_n and_o ascribe_v to_o thyself_o that_o which_o be_v thine_o own_o that_o be_v to_o say_v give_v thanks_n unto_o god_n for_o his_o benefit_n and_o attribute_v sin_n unto_o thyself_o and_o for_o sin_n think_v that_o punishment_n be_v due_a unto_o thou_o reckon_v thyself_o always_o in_o the_o low_a place_n and_o so_o shall_v the_o high_a be_v give_v thou_o for_o there_o can_v be_v no_o high_a without_o respect_n of_o the_o low_a those_o account_n themselves_o for_o the_o least_o who_o god_n reckon_v for_o chief_a because_o of_o their_o godliness_n and_o the_o more_o full_a of_o glory_n they_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o humble_o they_o behave_v themselves_o be_v full_a of_o truth_n and_o heavenly_a glory_n not_o desirous_a of_o vain_a glory_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a any_o way_n that_o they_o shall_v wax_v proud_a which_o stand_v stay_v upon_o god_n and_o they_o which_o ascribe_v unto_o god_o whatsoever_o goodness_n they_o have_v attain_v the_o same_o do_v not_o covet_v after_o mutual_a glory_n but_o desire_v that_o which_o be_v of_o god_n only_o &_o covet_v that_o god_n both_o in_o himself_o and_o in_o all_o other_o holy_a man_n may_v be_v praise_v above_o all_o thing_n and_o evermore_o direct_v their_o do_n to_o that_o end_n wherefore_o show_v thyself_o thankful_a in_o small_a thing_n and_o thou_o shall_v be_v worthy_a to_o attain_v to_o great_a thing_n let_v even_o the_o least_o and_o most_o base_a gift_n be_v reckon_v of_o thou_o for_o very_o great_a and_o notable_a for_o if_o the_o worthiness_n of_o the_o giver_n be_v consider_v no_o gift_n or_o quality_n ought_v to_o seem_v small_a or_o course_n for_o it_o be_v no_o small_a gift_n that_o be_v give_v of_o the_o high_a and_o mighty_a god_n insomuch_o that_o if_o he_o do_v give_v even_o punishment_n and_o stripe_n the_o same_o aught_o to_o be_v welcome_a unto_o we_o because_o it_o make_v for_o our_o salvation_n whatsoever_o he_o suffer_v to_o happen_v unto_o we_o he_o that_o desire_v to_o keep_v still_o the_o grace_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n let_v the_o same_o show_v himself_o thankful_a for_o the_o benefit_n give_v he_o and_o patient_a when_o the_o same_o be_v take_v from_o he_o and_o let_v he_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v come_v again_o and_o let_v partaker_n of_o his_o table_n but_o few_o of_o his_o continency_n all_o man_n will_v rejoice_v with_o christ_n but_o few_o will_v suffer_v affliction_n with_o he_o many_o follow_v jesus_n even_o to_o the_o break_n of_o bread_n
