think_v not_o that_o the_o efficacy_n of_o prayer_n lie_v in_o earnestness_n or_o enlargement_n though_o it_o be_v a_o comfort_n and_o a_o evidence_n that_o god_n enlarge_v we_o by_o his_o spirit_n it_o be_v not_o part_n that_o enlarge_v but_o the_o spirit_n but_o the_o virtue_n of_o prayer_n lie_v not_o here_o the_o strength_n whereby_o prayer_n do_v great_a thing_n it_o lie_v in_o the_o engine_n low_a in_o secret_a in_o the_o purchase_n of_o christ_n again_o christ_n take_v all_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o seed_n of_o jacob_n and_o render_v they_o up_o to_o his_o father_n for_o acceptance_n we_o have_v a_o more_o glorious_a way_n of_o come_v to_o god_n then_o adam_n have_v in_o innocency_n yea_o in_o some_o respect_n then_o the_o angel_n themselves_o by_o have_v such_o a_o to_o testify_v our_o high_a respect_n and_o esteem_v of_o he_o now_o if_o thy_o prayer_n be_v a_o customary_a way_n of_o prayer_n it_o be_v vanity_n it_o have_v not_o a_o right_a end_n it_o may_v be_v thou_o go_v to_o prayer_n mere_o to_o satisfy_v conscience_n or_o some_o have_v this_o by_o end_n in_o prayer_n a_o wicked_a end_n that_o be_v they_o think_v to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o their_o former_a sinful_a wicked_a way_n they_o take_v liberty_n in_o company_n to_o drink_v and_o please_v the_o flesh_n and_o as_o they_o serve_v themselves_o then_o so_o now_o they_o will_v serve_v god_n and_o set_v one_o against_o another_o sometime_o they_o will_v give_v liberty_n to_o the_o flesh_n to_o take_v contentment_n that_o way_n but_o they_o will_v not_o always_o do_v so_o sometime_o they_o will_v be_v devout_a and_o serve_v god_n there_o be_v no_o man_n so_o wicked_a as_o to_o be_v always_o in_o the_o act_n of_o wickedness_n but_o they_o think_v god_n must_v have_v his_o turn_n and_o they_o must_v have_v their_o turn_n sometime_o and_o this_o be_v the_o prayer_n of_o many_o people_n to_o put_v their_o sin_n in_o one_o scale_n and_o so_o many_o devout_a prayer_n in_o the_o other_o scale_n and_o the_o one_o shall_v poise_v the_o other_o this_o be_v vanity_n this_o be_v not_o the_o end_n of_o prayer_n then_o a_o thing_n be_v vain_a when_o it_o be_v empty_a when_o there_o be_v not_o substance_n in_o it_o now_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v empty_a in_o prayer_n there_o be_v word_n and_o they_o be_v wind_n the_o lord_n see_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o thy_o spirit_n thou_o do_v not_o set_v thyself_o before_o the_o lord_n in_o prayer_n thy_o expression_n be_v mere_o empty_a god_n do_v not_o see_v thy_o expression_n fill_v with_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n this_o be_v
