word_n do_v
many_o seal_n of_o thy_o pardon_n as_o thou_o have_v shed_v tear_n sigh_n sob_n and_o be_v warn_v inward_o for_o thy_o sin_n and_o transgression_n second_o reas_n 2_o as_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o harden_v the_o heart_n so_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o soften_v the_o same_o hence_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v quest_n how_o do_v it_o stand_v with_o god_n justice_n to_o punish_v man_n for_o not_o repent_v if_o he_o deny_v they_o repentance_n and_o how_o can_v man_n be_v condemn_v for_o a_o hard_a heart_n see_v god_n harden_v the_o same_o answ_n i_o answer_v a_o hard_a he_o be_v and_o a_o bad_a life_n do_v not_o simple_o condemn_v a_o man_n but_o continual_a delight_n in_o evil_a without_o once_o pray_v to_o be_v deliver_v god_n man_n have_v have_v bad_a hard_a heart_n but_o have_v lament_v so_o have_v evil_a man_n but_o rejoice_v in_o it_o though_o god_n harden_v the_o heart_n he_o do_v not_o bestow_v a_o evil_a heart_n the_o heart_n be_v harden_v that_o we_o may_v acknowledge_v that_o a_o soft_a heart_n come_v from_o god_n will_v thou_o know_v then_o if_o god_n have_v wrought_v upon_o thy_o heart_n mark_v how_o thou_o love_v sin_n how_o thou_o be_v please_v with_o the_o hardness_n of_o thy_o heart_n do_v thou_o love_v they_o thou_o heart_n be_v damnable_a do_v thou_o loathe_v they_o thou_o estate_n be_v comfortable_a the_o use_v of_o this_o both_o in_o public_a and_o private_a pray_v continual_o than_o i_o assure_v thou_o drunkenness_n shall_v not_o drown_v thou_o covetousness_n shall_v not_o over-rule_v thou_o pride_n shall_v not_o deface_v thou_o whoredom_n shall_v not_o undo_v thou_o steal_v shall_v not_o shame_v thou_o the_o world_n shall_v not_o deceive_v thou_o nor_o thyself_o condemn_v thou_o for_o instruction_n if_o repentance_n be_v the_o special_a gift_n of_o god_n use_v 2_o and_o we_o be_v to_o crave_v repentance_n from_o he_o than_o we_o be_v to_o take_v notice_n of_o our_o sin_n for_o which_o we_o ought_v to_o repent_v and_o unless_o first_o we_o know_v they_o we_o can_v true_o repent_v they_o to_o this_o end_n we_o must_v come_v with_o a_o general_a confession_n before_o god_n and_o also_o particular_o lie_v open_v our_o sin_n in_o his_o sight_n we_o must_v daily_o use_v those_o mean_n by_o which_o we_o may_v attain_v unto_o a_o knowledge_n of_o they_o god_n word_n the_o law_n of_o god_n our_o own_o conscience_n our_o brethren_n the_o church_n even_o our_o enemy_n that_o we_o may_v know_v our_o sin_n we_o must_v count_v they_o as_o a_o usurer_n do_v his_o money_n behold_v they_o as_o a_o husbandman_n do_v his_o ground_n condemn_v they_o as_o a_o judge_n do_v a_o thief_n pray_v against_o they_o as_o a_o mariner_n do_v to_o remove_v a_o storm_n fight_v against_o they_o as_o a_o soldier_n do_v against_o his_o enemy_n accuse_v they_o as_o a_o lawyer_n do_v one_o which_o be_v guilty_a if_o we_o once_o get_v a_o knowledge_n of_o they_o than_o their_o number_n will_v appear_v infinite_a their_o reward_n damnation_n their_o power_n execrable_a their_o presence_n intolerable_a than_o a_o drop_n of_o mercy_n be_v worth_a all_o the_o world_n than_o we_o shall_v pray_v against_o they_o if_o we_o pray_v against_o they_o we_o shall_v obtain_v repentance_n yea_o we_o shall_v mourn_v that_o we_o can_v repent_v as_o we_o will_v and_o if_o we_o do_v repent_v then_o our_o sin_n shall_v be_v pardon_v and_o in_o stead_n of_o sorrow_n the_o lord_n will_v bestow_v upon_o we_o unspeakable_a joy_n thus_o of_o the_o 3._o reason_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o reason_n the_o life_n to_o come_v i_o answer_v that_o though_o we_o suffer_v for_o our_o sin_n yet_o our_o suffering_n be_v not_o satisfaction_n for_o sin_n for_o the_o reward_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n everlasting_a and_o also_o all_o the_o misery_n of_o this_o life_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o excuse_v ourselves_o for_o any_o cross_n or_o calamity_n for_o we_o may_v have_v all_o those_o trouble_n and_o yet_o unless_o we_o repent_v we_o shall_v never_o see_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n nor_o the_o glory_n thereof_o the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v these_o two_o reason_n 1_o first_o sword_n though_o god_n correct_v every_o one_o who_o he_o love_v yet_o he_o love_v not_o every_o one_o who_o he_o correct_v note_n note_n christ_n be_v crucify_v the_o apostle_n martyr_v yet_o of_o the_o other_o worse_o because_o he_o die_v as_o a_o evil_a man_n die_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o fire_n gold_n glister_v and_o dross_n smoke_v so_o by_o tribulation_n good_a man_n become_v purge_v whereas_o evil_a man_n become_v worse_o the_o use_v of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v these_o two_o first_o see_v our_o affliction_n can_v move_v god_n to_o pity_v we_o use_v 1_o unless_o we_o repent_v therefore_o let_v we_o learn_v
to_o obey_v the_o exhortation_n of_o the_o prophet_n in_o scripture_n turn_v unto_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n thy_o blood_n can_v pacify_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n whereas_o tear_n of_o repentance_n clean_o by_o the_o pestilence_n not_o only_o in_o london_n but_o even_o in_o remote_a place_n and_o do_v they_o not_o yet_o continue_v do_v not_o the_o lord_n see_v they_o he_o do_v do_v he_o see_v they_o why_o then_o do_v he_o not_o pity_v our_o desolation_n do_v he_o pity_v it_o why_o then_o do_v he_o not_o stay_v it_o for_o no_o question_n but_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o afflict_a do_v pierce_v the_o heaven_n and_o yet_o they_o do_v continue_v o_o england_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n so_o long_o as_o thou_o continue_v rebellious_a in_o so_o great_a a_o light_n thou_o may_v look_v for_o the_o increase_n and_o continuance_n of_o god_n judgement_n upon_o thou_o for_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o remove_v his_o judgement_n until_o we_o forsake_v our_o sin_n because_o we_o do_v not_o turn_v unto_o the_o lord_n therefore_o our_o health_n be_v turn_v into_o sickness_n our_o life_n into_o death_n our_o peace_n into_o war_n our_o mirth_n into_o mourning_n our_o plenty_n into_o want_n let_v we_o turn_v before_o all_o be_v over-turned_n let_v we_o fill_v our_o chamber_n with_o mourning_n lest_o the_o whole_a land_n be_v fill_v with_o lamentation_n second_o use_v 2_o see_v god_n regard_v not_o our_o misery_n unless_o we_o do_v repent_v than_o it_o follow_v that_o our_o suffering_n be_v not_o worthy_a of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v for_o our_o joy_n shall_v be_v great_a there_o than_o our_o sorrow_n can_v be_v here_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o sickness_n misery_n be_v end_v and_o death_n destroy_v so_o that_o we_o ought_v to_o suffer_v patient_o here_o to_o live_v so_o we_o ought_v to_o labour_v to_o die_v so_o and_o die_v in_o despite_n of_o death_n to_o reign_v so_o concern_v the_o second_o without_o the_o preach_n of_o god_n word_n judgement_n can_v amend_v us._n at_o this_o time_n the_o jew_n be_v wonderful_o afflict_v fearful_a judgement_n be_v denounce_v against_o they_o yet_o this_o do_v not_o the_o turn_n god_n by_o his_o prophet_n do_v exhort_v they_o to_o repentance_n though_o the_o lord_n shall_v shake_v the_o earth_n terrible_o thunder_z omnipotent_o darken_v the_o light_n seareful_o multiply_v punishment_n abundant_o yet_o this_o alone_a can_v convert_v the_o soul_n the_o lord_n at_o another_o time_n complain_v that_o he_o have_v give_v they_o cleanness_n of_o tooth_n in_o all_o their_o city_n 11._o amos_n 4.6.7.9.10_o 11._o that_o he_o have_v withheld_a the_o rain_n from_o they_o that_o he_o have_v smite_v they_o with_o blast_v and_o mildew_n that_o the_o palmerworm_n have_v devour_v their_o vine_n and_o olive_n that_o he_o have_v word_n bring_v glad_a tiding_n of_o life_n everlasting_a by_o judgement_n we_o be_v blind_v by_o the_o gospel_n we_o be_v enlighten_v by_o judgement_n we_o be_v endanger_v by_o the_o gospel_n we_o be_v defend_v judgement_n threaten_v the_o life_n god_n word_n do_v threaten_v our_o soul_n with_o everlasting_a death_n unless_o we_o repent_v make_v much_o of_o the_o word_n in_o thy_o health_n
