he_o will_v feign_v let_v not_o this_o man_n be_v dismay_v but_o let_v he_o go_v forward_o remember_v what_o be_v here_o promise_v the_o more_o he_o want_v the_o more_o let_v he_o strive_v and_o he_o point_n of_o godliness_n leave_v in_o they_o yea_o though_o they_o will_v bear_v man_n in_o hand_n that_o they_o have_v like_o good_a scholar_n proceed_v to_o the_o high_a form_n yet_o when_o our_o great_a master_n shall_v pose_v they_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v allow_v to_o sit_v in_o the_o low_a so_o dangerous_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v once_o to_o relent_v or_o slacken_v our_o care_n until_o we_o have_v get_v this_o full_a assurance_n and_o make_v this_o rich_a entrance_n into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n that_o we_o feel_v ourselves_o to_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n &_o feel_v it_o not_o by_o the_o vain_a conceit_n of_o our_o own_o foolish_a brain_n nor_o by_o senseless_a security_n but_o by_o the_o work_n and_o fruit_n of_o the_o same_o spirit_n if_o this_o be_v well_o weigh_v man_n will_v not_o content_v themselves_o with_o so_o little_a or_o nothing_o they_o will_v not_o make_v so_o slight_a account_n of_o teach_v they_o will_v leave_v off_o their_o slanderous_a &_o reproachful_a rail_n they_o will_v not_o like_v filthy_a swine_n wallow_v themselves_o still_o in_o the_o filthy_a mire_n of_o their_o sin_n they_o will_v not_o prattle_v so_o much_o of_o this_o that_o all_o be_v sinner_n &_o therefore_o think_v all_o be_v alike_o shuffle_a together_o one_o with_o another_o nay_o god_n will_v sunder_v they_o for_o he_o have_v teach_v here_o who_o be_v godly_a and_o faithful_a such_o as_o he_o take_v and_o accept_v for_o his_o child_n and_o who_o be_v ungodly_a infidel_n child_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o heir_n of_o hell_n for_o in_o very_a mind_n to_o bring_v it_o again_o to_o the_o matter_n see_v this_o great_a danger_n we_o ought_v when_o we_o come_v to_o hear_v god_n word_n teach_v to_o make_v account_n that_o we_o go_v about_o a_o very_a hard_a work_n that_o we_o go_v to_o encounter_v with_o satan_n hand_n to_o hand_n who_o seek_v then_o most_o busy_o to_o steal_v away_o our_o heart_n that_o he_o may_v make_v that_o word_n speak_v not_o of_o those_o silly_a wretch_n which_o be_v never_o as_o yet_o acquaint_v with_o preach_v for_o it_o be_v no_o great_a marvel_v though_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o discern_v chalk_n from_o cheese_n or_o be_v blind_a for_o to_o judge_v of_o colour_n but_o to_o such_o as_o of_o long_a time_n have_v be_v hearer_n and_o yet_o never_o the_o wise_a because_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o judge_v when_o sound_a and_o necessary_a conclusion_n be_v draw_v out_o of_o the_o word_n but_o all_o be_v one_o with_o they_o whether_o the_o reason_n that_o be_v make_v be_v good_a or_o bad_a strong_a or_o weak_a yea_o further_o you_o shall_v perceive_v that_o even_o a_o little_a show_n of_o a_o reason_n although_o never_o so_o doltish_a be_v against_o true_a godliness_n do_v more_o prevail_v with_o they_o than_o a_o multitude_n of_o infallible_a proof_n although_o they_o be_v never_o so_o sure_a and_o that_o which_o be_v so_o gross_a and_o absurd_a that_o a_o child_n may_v laugh_v at_o seem_v to_o they_o a_o very_a strong_a pillar_n to_o lean_v to_o there_o need_v no_o more_o when_o a_o man_n preach_v unto_o they_o but_o a_o glorious_a show_n of_o learning_n a_o sweet_a ring_a voice_n and_o matter_n so_o strange_a and_o strange_o handle_v that_o they_o may_v be_v bring_v into_o a_o wonderment_n of_o that_o they_o know_v not_o and_o satan_n have_v many_o chaplain_n fit_a for_o this_o turn_n to_o serve_v the_o vain_a humour_n of_o such_o people_n and_o to_o set_v forth_o themselves_o after_o a_o pompous_a sort_n more_o seek_v their_o own_o vain_a glory_n than_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o conversion_n of_o the_o people_n the_o second_o kind_n of_o ground_n be_v they_o which_o receive_v the_o seed_n upon_o the_o hard_a rock_n where_o there_o be_v some_o entrance_n and_o the_o word_n have_v a_o shallow_a root_n in_o they_o for_o as_o it_o be_v the_o top_n of_o their_o heart_n be_v soft_a after_o a_o sort_n and_o there_o it_o be_v cover_v a_o little_a and_o it_o grow_v up_o quick_o and_o spring_v fresh_a they_o seem_v to_o be_v stout_a and_o excellent_a professor_n they_o brag_v of_o great_a zeal_n a_o man_n will_v take_v they_o to_o be_v sincere_a and_o so_o they_o take_v themselves_o but_o when_o the_o sun_n arise_v that_o be_v the_o fiery_a trial_n or_o parch_a heat_n of_o persecution_n they_o stumble_v and_o fall_v away_o and_o because_o the_o word_n have_v no_o deep_a root_n in_o they_o it_o wither_v and_o bring_v forth_o no_o fruit_n these_o also_o be_v not_o profit_v by_o the_o word_n of_o grace_n but_o be_v still_o castawaye_n &_o damn_a creature_n in_o this_o kind_n of_o ground_n or_o in_o these_o hearer_n if_o we_o note_v well_o we_o shall_v see_v that_o which_o be_v strange_a and_o wonder_a when_o christ_n give_v over_o the_o dig_v up_o of_o these_o thorn_n because_o he_o perceive_v they_o grow_v deep_a in_o his_o heart_n and_o spring_n as_o fast_o as_o he_o can_v cut_v they_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o as_o the_o swine_n in_o the_o sty_n a_o great_a deal_n behind_o these_o unprofitable_a hearer_n which_o be_v castaway_n and_o yet_o forsooth_o being_n very_a bruit_n beast_n before_o god_n in_o the_o state_n they_o be_v in_o yet_o unless_o the_o lord_n call_v they_o to_o be_v zealous_a of_o his_o glory_n they_o must_v be_v repute_v for_o the_o best_a man_n our_o field_n be_v full_a of_o such_o cattle_n as_o these_o &_o if_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o put_v to_o his_o help_a hand_n our_o case_n be_v very_o miserable_a if_o any_o of_o those_o which_o be_v so_o zealous_a to_o hear_v that_o they_o will_v to_o their_o hindrance_n in_o worldly_a matter_n leave_v on_o their_o business_n &_o follow_v preach_v as_o these_o which_o flock_v to_o hear_v christ_n be_v yet_o nevertheless_o reject_v vain_a the_o king_n of_o the_o earth_n stand_v up_o and_o the_o prince_n take_v counsel_n together_o against_o the_o lord_n and_o against_o his_o christ_n here_o be_v a_o great_a unity_n nay_o a_o soon_o to_o loathe_v and_o as_o it_o be_v to_o vomit_v up_o again_o so_o wholesome_a sustenance_n but_o let_v we_o learn_v here_o that_o when_o our_o knowledge_n be_v grow_v to_o be_v never_o so_o great_a because_o we_o know_v but_o in_o part_n and_o we_o know_v nothing_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o know_v as_o saint_n paul_n say_v even_o than_o we_o be_v to_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o join_v to_o our_o virtue_n knowledge_n unless_o when_o we_o have_v begin_v and_o proceed_v so_o far_o we_o mind_n to_o fall_v back_o again_o this_o place_n do_v plain_o set_v forth_o the_o woeful_a and_o miserable_a state_n of_o those_o which_o be_v without_o teach_v or_o have_v it_o in_o so_o scanty_a a_o measure_n that_o they_o come_v almost_o to_o no_o understanding_n they_o be_v merry_a and_o to_o a_o continent_n mind_n and_o both_o of_o they_o enemy_n to_o true_a knowledge_n therefore_o we_o be_v warn_v here_o in_o our_o diligent_a search_n for_o knowledge_n to_o take_v heed_n that_o when_o we_o have_v learn_v the_o truth_n we_o continue_v steadfast_a and_o unmoveable_a in_o it_o not_o to_o be_v toss_v to_o and_o fro_o as_o some_o unstable_a mind_n be_v who_o when_o they_o have_v be_v teach_v the_o truth_n the_o least_o doubt_n that_o be_v raise_v against_o it_o cause_v they_o by_o and_o by_o to_o shake_v and_o to_o fear_v whether_o they_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n or_o be_v somewhat_o strange_a but_o if_o we_o look_v well_o unto_o it_o we_o then_o shall_v perceive_v the_o meaning_n more_o plain_o patience_n be_v not_o only_o requisite_a in_o those_o which_o have_v receive_v the_o profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o bear_v and_o endure_v all_o persecution_n and_o affliction_n which_o oftentimes_o be_v so_o rage_v that_o except_o we_o have_v our_o heart_n well_o stay_v and_o season_v with_o patience_n we_o shall_v be_v drive_v to_o forsake_v and_o to_o forswear_v our_o knowledge_n but_o also_o it_o be_v very_o requisite_a to_o be_v well_o arm_v &_o fence_v with_o it_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v to_o do_v with_o those_o which_o be_v absurd_a and_o gross_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v as_o a_o dagger_n to_o a_o man_n heart_n to_o hear_v all_o else_o we_o shall_v be_v hury_v hither_o and_o thither_o upon_o rock_n and_o make_v shipwreck_n of_o our_o mildness_n and_o so_o mar_v and_o disgrace_v the_o good_a cause_n which_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n for_o wicked_a man_n will_v judge_v all_o to_o proceed_v of_o rancour_n and_o anger_n and_o ascribe_v all_o to_o choler_n and_o so_o by_o this_o mean_n there_o be_v procure_v some_o dishonour_n possess_v his_o soul_n in_o patience_n it_o follow_v with_o pattence_n godliness_n etc._n etc._n a_o man_n may_v demand_v what_o manner_n of_o order_n be_v here_o use_v in_o will_v we_o to_o join_v godliness_n to_o patience_n and_o then_o to_o godliness_n brotherlie_a kindness_n be_v not_o godliness_n the_o whole_a or_o the_o general_n and_o these_o branch_n be_v member_n of_o it_o true_a it_o be_v that_o this_o word_n be_v often_o use_v general_o to_o comprehend_v all_o goodness_n but_o in_o this_o place_n it_o comprehend_v but_o the_o first_o table_n of_o the_o law_n wherein_o we_o be_v will_v to_o be_v devout_a or_o zealous_a a_o very_a necessary_a caveat_n to_o beware_v that_o we_o do_v not_o become_v so_o patient_a that_o we_o forget_v to_o be_v zealous_a in_o the_o lord_n quarrel_n it_o be_v as_o if_o saint_n peter_n shall_v have_v say_v i_o will_v not_o have_v you_o so_o meek_a as_o to_o bear_v and_o put_v up_o all_o i_o will_v have_v you_o withal_o to_o be_v hot_a in_o god_n quarrel_n forget_v not_o that_o for_o many_o under_o a_o colour_n of_o a_o meek_a patience_n do_v cover_v the_o want_n of_o religion_n for_o if_o god_n be_v dishonoted_a his_o truth_n deface_v his_o servant_n slander_v they_o can_v hear_v and_o see_v and_o yet_o be_v as_o meek_a as_o a_o lamb_n but_o if_o themselves_o be_v touch_v you_o shall_v see_v they_o play_v the_o lion_n and_o of_o luke_o warm_a to_o become_v fire_n hot_a this_o therefore_o be_v no_o patience_n which_o want_v godliness_n we_o must_v learn_v then_o both_o with_o patience_n &_o meekness_n to_o deal_v in_o the_o lord_n matter_n and_o also_o with_o fervent_a zeal_n lest_o in_o steed_n of_o this_o excellent_a virtue_n of_o patience_n which_o be_v commend_v unto_o we_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o profane_a ungodliness_n and_o a_o irreligious_a mildness_n in_o which_o at_o this_o day_n more_o do_v offend_v then_o through_o impatience_n for_o these_o atheist_n have_v this_o as_o a_o excuse_n god_n and_o man_n for_o be_v there_o any_o of_o they_o which_o be_v slander_v with_o some_o foul_a crime_n whereby_o they_o shall_v receive_v great_a injury_n or_o be_v spiteful_o rail_v upon_o if_o some_o of_o their_o near_a friend_n sit_v by_o and_o hold_v their_o tougue_n when_o they_o know_v they_o be_v injury_v that_o can_v by_o and_o by_o feel_v &_o say_v this_o be_v cold_a friendship_n that_o they_o can_v not_o have_v deal_v so_o unlovinglie_o towards_o their_o friend_n by_o whomsoeever_n they_o shall_v have_v hear_v they_o so_o abuse_v they_o can_v not_o have_v hold_v their_o tongue_n then_o belike_o god_n nor_o his_o truth_n be_v none_o of_o their_o dear_a friend_n that_o they_o can_v put_v up_o such_o injury_n do_v towards_o he_o there_o be_v plenty_n of_o this_o patience_n in_o all_o place_n but_o godliness_n can_v be_v suffer_v to_o come_v near_o for_o he_o be_v a_o break_v peace_n and_o a_o very_a unpleasant_a fellow_n he_o be_v over_o rough_a and_o precise_a and_o over_o captious_a there_o be_v good_a neighbourhood_n and_o friendship_n before_o he_o come_v they_o can_v be_v merry_a together_o and_o be_v in_o unity_n without_o any_o jar_n have_v it_o not_o be_v better_a to_o use_v gentleness_n and_o patience_n then_o to_o have_v this_o broil_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o better_a than_o love_n &_o where_o that_o be_v not_o there_o be_v nothing_o good_a o_o miserable_a day_n this_o be_v the_o good_a love_n now_o among_o man_n that_o they_o can_v love_v one_o another_o but_o they_o must_v hate_v god_n to_o have_v peace_n and_o concord_n with_o man_n to_o be_v at_o odds_n with_o god_n for_o man_n sake_n to_o put_v up_o the_o dishonour_v of_o his_o name_n not_o to_o continue_v in_o patience_n unless_o godliness_n be_v want_v the_o ungodlie_a world_n and_o lewd_a nature_n that_o be_v in_o man_n take_v occasion_n to_o accuse_v godly_a zeal_n under_o this_o pretence_n and_o to_o find_v fault_n with_o the_o preach_n of_o with_o brotherlie_a kindness_n love_n 8_o for_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v with_o you_o and_o abound_v they_o will_v make_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v idle_a nor_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n 9_o for_o he_o that_o have_v not_o these_o thing_n be_v blind_a and_o see_v not_o a_o far_o off_o and_o have_v forget_v that_o he_o be_v purge_v from_o his_o old_a sin_n and_o with_o godliness_n brotherlie_a kindness_n etc._n etc._n we_o have_v hear_v already_o that_o with_o our_o faith_n must_v be_v join_v virtue_n or_o godly_a deed_n which_o it_o can_v be_v without_o if_o it_o be_v a_o true_a faith_n with_o virtue_n we_o be_v command_v to_o join_v knowledge_n which_o may_v be_v a_o guide_n thereunto_o our_o knowledge_n must_v go_v with_o temperance_n with_o this_o must_v come_v patience_n and_o thereunto_o must_v be_v join_v godliness_n there_o remain_v yet_o two_o branch_n of_o these_o special_a virtue_n about_o which_o we_o be_v to_o travel_v the_o first_o of_o these_o be_v brotherlie_a love_n or_o kindness_n which_o must_v be_v yoke_v with_o godliness_n as_o i_o say_v that_o this_o godliness_n he_o speak_v of_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o first_o table_n of_o the_o law_n respect_v god_n and_o his_o religion_n that_o we_o be_v sound_a and_o zealous_a in_o the_o same_o and_o not_o as_o those_o which_o be_v for_o all_o all_o time_n and_o all_o religion_n and_o therefore_o care_v not_o what_o be_v say_v against_o religion_n be_v very_a bellie-god_n and_o atheist_n so_o this_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o second_o table_n show_v what_o we_o owe_v unto_o man_n this_o be_v very_o fit_o and_o necessary_o add_v for_o as_o there_o be_v many_o which_o regard_v man_n only_o how_o to_o please_v and_o not_o to_o grieve_v or_o offend_v they_o altogether_o forget_v their_o duty_n towards_o the_o lord_n god_n and_o whole_o shut_v he_o out_o as_o though_o their_o chief_a care_n shall_v be_v of_o man_n let_v pass_v godliness_n so_o there_o be_v some_o that_o offend_v on_o the_o other_o side_n which_o look_v always_o so_o high_a as_o to_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o truth_n to_o be_v earnest_a and_o fiery_a in_o that_o overlook_v man_n forget_v the_o duty_n which_o they_o owe_v unto_o they_o the_o holy_a apostle_n meet_v with_o this_o mischief_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o we_o must_v so_o love_n god_n that_o we_o also_o love_v man_n join_v say_v he_o to_o your_o godliness_n brotherly_a kindness_n for_o unless_o this_o be_v join_v and_o go_v with_o our_o zeal_n of_o god_n word_n it_o be_v no_o true_a godliness_n although_o we_o be_v never_o so_o sound_a in_o judgement_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v as_o hot_a as_o moses_n or_o elias_n yea_o even_o to_o be_v swallow_v up_o with_o burn_a zeal_n for_o it_o do_v not_o proceed_v from_o god_n spirit_n who_o do_v also_o work_v the_o love_n towards_o man_n whersoever_o he_o go_v but_o it_o do_v proceed_v of_o some_o corrupt_a cause_n as_o of_o vain_a glory_n or_o self-love_n and_o such_o like_a and_o deserve_v not_o indeed_o to_o be_v call_v godly_a devotion_n no_o more_o than_o the_o true_a faith_n can_v be_v without_o virtue_n or_o deserve_v to_o be_v call_v aught_o save_o a_o shadow_n or_o image_n of_o faith_n if_o it_o be_v without_o good_a work_n but_o it_o be_v a_o bitterness_n which_o resemble_v the_o true_a zeal_n which_o do_v evermore_o carry_v with_o it_o a_o love_n and_o care_n towards_o man_n true_a it_o be_v that_o to_o be_v zealous_a in_o spirit_n be_v a_o singular_a and_o special_a gift_n of_o god_n &_o they_o which_o be_v without_o it_o be_v but_o brutish_a and_o senseless_a creature_n not_o know_v god_n nor_o how_o precious_a his_o glory_n be_v yet_o this_o must_v be_v look_v unto_o in_o every_o one_o of_o we_o whether_o we_o bear_v a_o love_a affection_n towards_o our_o brethren_n or_o no_o for_o if_o we_o love_v god_n we_o must_v needs_o love_v man_n which_o bear_v his_o image_n if_o we_o delight_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n this_o be_v one_o chief_a point_n of_o doctrine_n that_o be_v teach_v in_o it_o that_o we_o be_v love_v &_o kind_a unto_o man_n therefore_o as_o s._n paul_n 1_o that_o all_o true_a godly_a man_n and_o faithful_a christian_n have_v this_o knowledge_n in_o themselves_o but_o let_v we_o give_v ear_n to_o the_o apostle_n who_o tell_v we_o how_o we_o shall_v curious_a if_o they_o do_v but_o look_v this_o way_n which_o god_n will_v all_o his_o servant_n to_o walk_v if_o god_n do_v open_a their_o eye_n to_o see_v but_o even_o in_o a_o glimmer_a that_o which_o he_o do_v teach_v in_o this_o place_n they_o will_v be_v ashamed_a of_o their_o master_n &_o blush_v at_o that_o which_o now_o they_o boast_v and_o brag_v of_o they_o will_v also_o confess_v that_o like_o blind_a buzzard_n and_o mad_a beast_n they_o have_v fight_v against_o god_n and_o not_o man_n final_o it_o will_v make_v they_o change_v their_o way_n and_o seek_v diligent_o to_o have_v the_o witness_n within_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n we_o must_v mark_v well_o one_o other_o thing_n which_o be_v here_o speak_v to_o wit_n that_o he_o say_v a_o entrance_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o you_o abundant_o or_o rich_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v when_o you_o have_v labour_v and_o travel_v to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v well_o soak_a and_o season_v matter_n which_o saint_n paul_n will_v to_o meddle_v with_o be_v in_o provide_v earthly_a thing_n necessary_a for_o his_o family_n so_o that_o saint_n paul_n say_v if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o
