that_o ordinary_o also_o for_o i_o will_v not_o count_v it_o extraordinary_a be_v that_o which_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o spirit_n do_v usual_o reveal_v unto_o his_o people_n a_o real_a difference_n there_o be_v both_o in_o the_o root_n and_o in_o the_o rule_n and_o in_o the_o scope_n which_o they_o aim_v at_o and_o so_o it_o will_v appear_v to_o be_v at_o the_o last_o day_n math._n 25.23_o holy_a ghost_n hypocrite_n may_v have_v a_o taste_n and_o a_o poor_a christian_a will_v fear_v that_o his_o best_a fellowship_n with_o christ_n be_v but_o a_o taste_n and_o that_o manifold_a experience_n make_v good_a wherein_o then_o lie_v the_o difference_n do_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n leave_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n stony_a and_o unmelted_a it_o be_v so_o indeed_o with_o the_o stony_a but_o not_o with_o the_o thorny_a soil_n for_o the_o heart_n of_o some_o hypocrite_n be_v melt_v as_o iron_n stone_n they_o may_v come_v to_o melt_v about_o their_o own_o estate_n through_o fear_n and_o so_o all_o those_o melt_v that_o want_n not_o depth_n of_o earth_n as_o the_o thorny_a soil_n do_v not_o but_o mind_v you_o they_o will_v grow_v hard_o again_o as_o iron_n or_o lead_n will_v do_v after_o it_o be_v melt_v now_o look_v at_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n when_o he_o come_v to_o work_v effectual_o and_o he_o do_v not_o only_o melt_v the_o heart_n but_o take_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o stone_n and_o give_v a_o heart_n of_o flesh_n for_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o break_v a_o stone_n it_o will_v be_v a_o stone_n though_o it_o be_v break_v but_o when_o the_o himself_o more_o full_o than_o he_o speak_v more_o plain_o and_o give_v himself_o not_o in_o a_o future_a but_o in_o a_o present_a promise_n and_o now_o the_o soul_n see_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v more_o fit_a temple_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o dwell_v in_o and_o this_o be_v the_o principal_a reason_n of_o the_o point_n quest_n if_o then_o there_o be_v such_o gift_n of_o holiness_n what_o baptist_n speak_v now_o the_o axe_n be_v lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n etc._n etc._n and_o this_o he_o speak_v mat._n 3.9_o after_o he_o have_v say_v think_v not_o to_o say_v within_o leave_v we_o and_o therefore_o we_o hope_v and_o will_v seek_v in_o our_o own_o strength_n that_o the_o lord_n may_v reveal_v himself_o to_o we_o in_o mercy_n and_o peace_n but_o when_o the_o lord_n come_v near_a unto_o we_o he_o will_v show_v we_o how_o unable_a we_o be_v to_o take_v up_o the_o least_o good_a resolution_n we_o shall_v find_v ourselves_o like_o bruise_a reed_n unable_a to_o mind_n you_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n when_o the_o lord_n god_n the_o father_n will_v draw_v home_o the_o soul_n thorough_o to_o jesus_n christ_n will_v burn_v up_o all_o thy_o confidence_n for_o if_o thy_o soul_n be_v not_o utter_o lose_v so_o long_o as_o it_o have_v any_o root_n or_o power_n in_o itself_o it_o be_v not_o come_v to_o a_o utter_a selfe-deniall_n though_o i_o can_v work_v i_o will_v believe_v and_o if_o i_o can_v believe_v i_o can_v wait_v that_o i_o may_v believe_v and_o so_o here_o be_v still_o the_o old_a root_n of_o adam_n leave_v alive_a in_o we_o whereby_o man_n and_o all_o the_o person_n the_o godhead_n with_o all_o the_o attribute_n of_o that_o nature_n and_o all_o the_o office_n of_o those_o person_n for_o it_o be_v not_o a_o confuse_a god_n that_o vanish_v away_o in_o a_o general_a imagination_n but_o god_n distinct_o consider_v in_o his_o person_n attribute_n property_n etc._n etc._n thus_o the_o lord_n give_v himself_o to_o abraham_n and_o to_o his_o seed_n i_o will_v be_v a_o father_n unto_o you_o 2_o cor._n 6.18_o and_o that_o be_v not_o speak_v unto_o the_o jew_n only_o but_o unto_o all_o the_o israel_n of_o god_n he_o give_v the_o son_n also_o isa_n 9.6_o joh._n 3.16_o and_o for_o the_o holy_a spirit_n jo._n 16.7.13_o isa_n 59.21_o this_o be_v my_o covenant_n with_o they_o say_v the_o lord_n my_o spirit_n that_o be_v upon_o to_o be_v a_o covenant_n so_o he_o give_v he_o also_o to_o work_v all_o thing_n needful_a for_o our_o redemption_n partly_o by_o his_o passion_n and_o obedience_n unto_o the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o partly_o by_o fulfil_v the_o whole_a law_n all_o righteousness_n for_o we_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v full_o accomplish_v whatsoever_o be_v requisite_a for_o he_o to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o point_n if_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v any_o save_a qualification_n before_o christ_n than_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o salvation_n before_o christ_n and_o these_o be_v not_o the_o way_n of_o hypocrite_n answ_n consider_v i_o pray_v you_o what_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n hold_v forth_o as_o the_o root_n of_o this_o sanctification_n and_o i_o will_v go_v no_o further_o than_o express_a scripture_n isa_n 58.2_o they_o seek_v i_o daily_o and_o this_o be_v speak_v of_o hypocritical_a israelite_n and_o for_o wait_v we_o often_o hear_v it_o speak_v sinner_n and_o their_o neck_n as_o a_o iron_n sinew_n and_o their_o brow_n as_o brass_n there_o be_v not_o truth_n and_o uprightness_n true_a it_o be_v not_o but_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v the_o difference_n true_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o perceive_v when_o man_n differ_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o a_o easy_a matter_n to_o make_v such_o use_n of_o sanctification_n as_o by_o it_o to_o bear_v witness_n unto_o justification_n and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o very_a hard_a case_n and_o much_o more_o difficult_a when_o man_n can_v feel_v the_o presence_n of_o spiritual_a gift_n but_o want_v spiritual_a light_n and_o when_o they_o do_v find_v faith_n in_o themselves_o they_o do_v find_v it_o in_o hypocrite_n also_o even_o in_o hypocrite_n also_o even_o faith_n to_o seek_v the_o lord_n &_o faith_n to_o wait_v upon_o he_o and_o faith_n to_o apply_v he_o say_v my_o god_n and_o faith_n to_o stay_v upon_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n and_o yet_o these_o man_n do_v vanish_v away_o in_o hypocrisy_n this_o hypocrite_n may_v do_v see_v therefore_o what_o easiness_n of_o error_n may_v befall_v christian_n whether_o this_o or_o that_o grace_n be_v of_o the_o right_a stamp_n or_o no_o it_o will_v behoove_v christian_n to_o be_v wary_a for_o even_o eagle-eyed_a christian_n will_v have_v much_o ado_n so_o to_o discern_v of_o sanctification_n in_o themselves_o before_o they_o see_v their_o justification_n as_o to_o cut_v off_o all_o hypocrite_n from_o have_v the_o like_a in_o they_o for_o the_o sanctify_a frame_n of_o god_n child_n and_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v like_o it_o in_o hypocrite_n both_o of_o they_o spring_n from_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o both_o from_o faith_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v further_a work_n in_o his_o own_o people_n beyond_o what_o he_o work_v upon_o other_o though_o he_o melt_v both_o yet_o hypocrite_n be_v melt_v as_o iron_n which_o will_v return_v again_o to_o his_o former_a hardness_n but_o his_o own_o people_n be_v melt_v into_o flesh_n which_o will_v never_o return_v to_o his_o hardness_n more_o neither_o can_v they_o rest_v in_o any_o measure_n of_o softness_n unto_o which_o they_o have_v attain_v but_o still_o be_v carry_v towards_o jesus_n christ_n so_o that_o the_o one_o be_v a_o temporary_a faith_n and_o the_o other_o persever_v though_o both_o work_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n yet_o this_o difference_n will_v be_v find_v between_o they_o not_o only_a when_o hypocrite_n come_v to_o be_v blast_v but_o even_o in_o the_o midden_a of_o their_o profession_n as_o for_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v never_o precedent_n of_o its_o own_o power_n but_o his_o strength_n lie_v out_o of_o himself_o in_o christ_n whereas_o hypocrite_n and_o legal_a christian_n be_v confident_a of_o their_o faith_n that_o they_o can_v make_v use_n of_o it_o unto_o such_o and_o such_o end_n they_o think_v they_o need_v no_o more_o but_o look_v up_o to_o christ_n and_o their_o work_n be_v at_o a_o end_n and_o such_o strength_n they_o find_v in_o themselves_o as_o that_o they_o do_v not_o fear_v but_o that_o they_o shall_v carry_v a_o end_n all_o their_o work_n to_o god_n glory_n and_o their_o own_o whereas_o the_o strong_a faith_n even_o of_o the_o thessalonian_o who_o faith_n be_v such_o as_o none_o of_o all_o the_o church_n go_v before_o they_o if_o it_o be_v not_o supply_v and_o strengthen_v they_o know_v &_o the_o apostle_n paul_n know_v that_o it_o will_v warp_v &_o shrink_v this_o may_v we_o see_v by_o compare_v 1_o thes_n 1.3_o or_o against_o the_o word_n or_o in_o forbid_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o word_n 1_o hence_o he_o be_v not_o to_o mould_v up_o and_o impose_v what_o erastian_n form_n of_o church_n polity_n he_o please_v because_o if_o there_o be_v but_o one_o form_n command_v now_o of_o god_n he_o can_v therefore_o command_v what_o form_n he_o will_n 2_o hence_o he_o be_v not_o to_o and_o forbid_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v of_o a_o small_a nature_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o law_n of_o man_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v true_a which_o be_v often_o say_v that_o de_fw-fr minimis_fw-la non_fw-la curate_n lex_fw-la i._n e._n man_n law_n look_v not_o after_o small_a matter_n but_o other_o thing_n command_v or_o forbid_v in_o god_n law_n be_v momentous_a and_o of_o a_o high_a nature_n and_o though_o small_a in_o themselves_o yet_o weighty_a in_o the_o consequence_n or_o circumstance_n and_o in_o this_o case_n if_o he_o inflict_v a_o slight_a paper_n punishment_n when_o the_o offence_n be_v of_o a_o high_a nature_n or_o contrariwise_o when_o he_o inflict_v that_o which_o be_v equivalent_a to_o a_o capital_a punishment_n when_o the_o offence_n be_v power_n to_o reach_v her_o end_n in_o curb_v and_o cure_v offence_n of_o the_o second_o table_n yet_o none_o will_v thence_o conclude_v that_o therefore_o no_o need_n to_o the_o church_n therein_o of_o the_o coercive_a power_n of_o the_o magistrate_n 3_o the_o church_n aim_v at_o restraint_n from_o infection_n of_o other_o as_o well_o as_o amend_v the_o party_n themselves_o now_o suppose_v the_o church_n cast_v out_o a_o person_n for_o obstinate_a hold_v of_o heretical_a tenant_n yet_o the_o church_n can_v now_o restrain_v he_o any_o further_a in_o any_o ecclesiastical_a way_n but_o that_o he_o may_v now_o do_v more_o mischief_n in_o spread_v his_o tenent_n then_o ever_o unless_o the_o magistrate_n also_o exercise_v his_o coercive_a power_n 4_o the_o church_n may_v in_o case_n
