for_o he_o who_o be_v the_o author_n hereof_o who_o mouth_n speak_v it_o from_o the_o feel_n of_o his_o soul_n &_o who_o soul_n be_v now_o bind_v up_o in_o the_o bundle_n of_o life_n i_o know_v and_o can_v in_o good_a conscience_n conceal_v the_o great_a delight_n you_o have_v always_o have_v in_o the_o read_n of_o his_o book_n the_o reverend_a opinion_n you_o have_v of_o he_o live_v and_o how_o heavy_o and_o passionate_o you_o take_v his_o death_n and_o departure_n therefore_o to_o cheer_v you_o up_o in_o want_n of_o he_o i_o send_v you_o here_o this_o little_a book_n his_o own_o child_n beget_v in_o his_o life_n time_n but_o bear_v after_o his_o death_n observe_v it_o well_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v it_o not_o unlike_o the_o father_n yea_o you_o shall_v discern_v in_o it_o the_o father_n spirit_n and_o it_o doubt_v not_o but_o to_o find_v entertainment_n with_o they_o of_o who_o the_o father_n be_v so_o well_o respect_v and_o for_o myself_o i_o spare_v to_o rehearse_v what_o and_o abroad_o your_o merciful_a deal_n with_o they_o who_o be_v in_o your_o power_n your_o benevolence_n to_o learning_n and_o namely_o to_o some_o in_o the_o university_n do_v all_o proclaim_v to_o the_o world_n those_o your_o due_a praise_n which_o i_o well_o know_v your_o modesty_n do_v spare_v once_o to_o name_n neither_o will_v i_o have_v say_v thus_o much_o be_v it_o not_o for_o this_o cold_a and_o barren_a age_n wherein_o we_o live_v that_o so_o when_o our_o preach_n can_v move_v yet_o your_o godly_a example_n may_v stir_v up_o pardon_v i_o therefore_o i_o pray_v you_o and_o think_v it_o no_o wrong_n to_o you_o which_o be_v a_o benefit_n to_o god_n church_n but_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n &_o hold_v on_o in_o that_o happy_a 24._o proceed_v good_a sir_n to_o honour_v learning_n in_o yourself_o and_o other_o and_o religion_n especial_o which_o be_v the_o principal_a learning_n and_o proceed_v both_o of_o you_o to_o practice_v religion_n in_o your_o own_o person_n and_o in_o your_o family_n hold_v on_o to_o shine_v before_o your_o family_n and_o among_o the_o people_n where_o you_o dwell_v in_o zeal_n and_o holiness_n hold_v on_o hereby_o still_o to_o shame_v popery_n to_o stop_v your_o enemy_n mouth_n and_o to_o honour_v that_o holy_a religion_n which_o you_o profess_v to_o gain_v comfort_n of_o good_a conscience_n to_o yourselves_o &_o assurance_n of_o eternal_a reward_n and_o last_o to_o encourage_v i_o in_o those_o painful_a duty_n which_o lie_v upon_o i_o for_o i_o open_o profess_v that_o your_o religious_a zeal_n and_o love_n of_o the_o truth_n with_o many_o other_o good_a help_n be_v principal_a encouragement_n in_o my_o ministry_n &_o especial_a motive_n unto_o i_o to_o undertake_v the_o charge_n of_o publication_n of_o so_o many_o of_o the_o work_n of_o this_o holy_a man_n decease_v as_o may_v not_o in_o better_a manner_n be_v do_v by_o other_o but_o i_o keep_v you_o too_o long_o encouragement_n for_o all_o pastor_n and_o minister_n of_o god_n church_n to_o labour_v painful_o &_o faithful_o in_o their_o place_n for_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o fail_v they_o nor_o shall_v they_o want_v comfort_n when_o ever_o they_o stand_v in_o need_n thereof_o yea_o rather_o shall_v angel_n from_o heaven_n be_v their_o help_n and_o comforter_n then_o faithful_a minister_n shall_v be_v leave_v destitute_a hitherto_o of_o the_o second_o general_a point_n namely_o of_o the_o prophet_n consolation_n the_o three_o and_o last_o general_a point_n be_v the_o renovatiou_n of_o the_o prophet_n commission_n point_n in_o the_o eight_o &_o part_n of_o the_o nine_o verse_n and_o it_o contain_v 3._o part_n 1._o a_o question_n or_o inquiry_n make_v by_o god_n go_v up_o and_o down_o undisposed_a and_o unprovided_a for_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v too_o true_a in_o all_o age_n there_o be_v wander_v church_n levits_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n and_o serve_v for_o 10._o shekel_n of_o silver_n and_o a_o suit_n of_o apparel_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_v but_o this_o calamity_n be_v upon_o the_o 6._o church_n of_o the_o jew_n never_o but_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o king_n in_o israel_n and_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v any_o in_o our_o church_n and_o in_o christian_n nation_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n at_o such_o rate_n it_o be_v much_o more_o miserable_a 6._o see_v now_o there_o be_v king_n in_o israel_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o reason_n that_o every_o man_n rob_v the_o church_n as_o it_o shall_v please_v his_o covetous_a mind_n but_o cease_v to_o inquire_v whether_o this_o be_v so_o or_o no_o and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o leave_v the_o reformation_n thereof_o to_o those_o church_n and_o state_n any_o who_o it_o may_v concern_v i_o answer_v for_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n that_o this_o may_v be_v so_o and_o yet_o the_o lord_n may_v complain_v as_o here_o he_o do_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v for_o the_o lord_n mean_v not_o such_o as_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o levit_n or_o priest_n in_o the_o old_a or_o of_o minister_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n for_o there_o be_v always_o enough_o of_o they_o who_o some_o for_o preferment_n sake_n some_o for_o their_o ease_n and_o some_o for_o a_o refuge_n how_o to_o live_v be_v willing_a to_o enter_v that_o function_n and_o according_o in_o that_o call_n see_v not_o the_o lord_n but_o themselves_o and_o their_o own_o end_n but_o here_o the_o lord_n enquire_v for_o minister_n such_o man_n as_o first_o pure_o do_v seek_v and_o undertake_v that_o function_n therein_o to_o honour_n god_n and_o to_o gather_v his_o church_n and_o then_o in_o all_o their_o labour_n and_o ministerial_a duty_n true_o and_o faithful_o endeavour_n to_o the_o same_o end_n preach_v god_n word_n and_o as_o god_n word_n diligent_o reprove_v exhort_v and_o admonish_v and_o shine_v before_o their_o people_n in_o good_a work_n for_o such_o man_n it_o be_v no_o marvel_n though_o the_o lord_n light_v a_o candle_n at_o no_o one_o day_n and_o make_v open_a proclamation_n 16._o to_o seek_v for_o they_o say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v for_o such_o a_o man_n be_v as_o job_n say_v one_o of_o a_o thousand_o for_o some_o church_n the_o lord_n day_n have_v not_o as_o great_a cause_n to_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o want_n of_o able_a faithful_a and_o godly_a minister_n who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o and_o be_v a_o king_n evil_a not_o to_o be_v heal_v but_o by_o the_o power_n of_o a_o king_n for_o as_o long_o as_o there_o be_v so_o few_o and_o mean_a preferment_n for_o painful_a minister_n there_o will_v never_o want_v abundance_n of_o such_o minister_n as_o do_v want_v either_o conscience_n or_o ability_n to_o discharge_v their_o duty_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n till_o god_n put_v into_o ministry_n the_o heart_n of_o parliament_n and_o prince_n to_o lock_v to_o this_o great_a and_o needful_a work_n let_v we_o minister_n learn_v our_o duty_n and_o first_o we_o who_o be_v in_o the_o university_n be_v here_o admonish_v to_o look_v to_o ourselves_o by_o god_n blessing_n we_o be_v many_o and_o daily_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o let_v we_o therefore_o so_o furnish_v ourselves_o as_o that_o when_o god_n or_o his_o church_n shall_v say_v who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o and_o who_o shall_v i_o send_v then_o he_o may_v find_v many_o among_o we_o who_o he_o may_v send_v to_o that_o minister_n no_o need_n of_o they_o for_o have_v the_o lord_n please_v or_o content_v himself_o with_o such_o kind_n of_o man_n as_o seek_v to_o be_v minister_n for_o themselves_o and_o not_o for_o his_o sake_n or_o be_v minister_n do_v feed_v themselves_o and_o not_o their_o flock_n or_o preach_v themselves_o and_o not_o christ_n then_o have_v he_o not_o need_v to_o have_v make_v this_o proclamation_n for_o age_n have_v yield_v store_n of_o such_o but_o contrariwise_o he_o that_o be_v painful_a and_o faithful_a in_o this_o function_n let_v he_o know_v that_o god_n and_o his_o be_v all_o lodge_v in_o the_o same_o grave_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o death_n have_v like_o dominion_n over_o they_o all_o 3._o but_o afterward_o at_o the_o last_o day_n at_o god_n great_a harvest_n &_o great_a winnow_a time_n he_o then_o with_o the_o wind_n of_o his_o power_n sever_v they_o a_o sunder_o in_o soul_n and_o body_n wheat_n from_o the_o chaff_n sheep_n from_o the_o goat_n &_o for_o a_o time_n the_o three_o actual_o in_o soul_n and_o body_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o now_o of_o these_o three_o winnow_v time_n the_o holy_a ghost_n speak_v here_o proper_o of_o the_o second_o namely_o the_o fan_n of_o god_n judgement_n so_o that_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o metaphor_n be_v this_o search_v yourselves_o and_o repent_v betimes_o lest_o god_n come_v upon_o you_o with_o some_o fearful_a judgement_n because_o you_o have_v so_o long_o contemn_v the_o fan_n of_o the_o word_n and_o find_v you_o too_o light_a to_o abide_v the_o try_v all_o do_v take_v you_o away_o in_o the_o judgement_n and_o cast_v you_o into_o hell_n for_o as_o sure_a as_o the_o fan_n of_o the_o word_n have_v make_v difference_n of_o you_o which_o be_v chaff_n and_o which_o be_v wheat_n so_o sure_o shall_v the_o fan_n of_o his_o judgement_n blow_v away_o the_o chaff_n to_o hell_n and_o damnation_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o meaning_n now_o for_o the_o use_n for_o we_o in_o england_n the_o case_n stand_v thus_o our_o church_n doubtless_o be_v god_n corn_n field_n &_o we_o be_v the_o corn_n heap_n of_o god_n and_o those_o brownisle_n and_o sectary_n be_v blind_a and_o besot_v who_o can_v see_v that_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v a_o godly_a heap_n of_o god_n corn_n but_o withal_o we_o must_v confess_v we_o be_v full_a of_o chaff_n that_o be_v of_o profane_a &_o wicked_a hypocrite_n who_o heart_n and_o mind_n abound_v in_o sin_n and_o rebellion_n and_o many_o of_o our_o best_a professor_n be_v also_o too_o full_a of_o chaff_n that_o be_v of_o corruption_n and_o do_v give_v themselves_o too_o much_o liberty_n in_o many_o sin_n but_o alas_o the_o pure_a wheat_n how_o thin_a be_v it_o scatter_v how_o hard_o to_o find_v a_o man_n at_o least_o a_o family_n which_o dedicate_v themselves_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o holy_a and_o sincere_a obedience_n and_o labour_n to_o make_v conscience_n of_o all_o sin_n now_o therefore_o see_v we_o be_v god_n corn_n field_n and_o we_o have_v some_o pure_a wheat_n among_o much_o chaff_n therefore_o god_n will_v winnow_v we_o to_o find_v out_o the_o corn_n if_o he_o have_v but_o one_o corn_n of_o wheat_n in_o a_o handful_n of_o chaff_n but_o one_o good_a man_n of_o many_o he_o will_v stir_v all_o the_o heap_n for_o those_o few_o corn_n he_o will_v not_o care_v to_o blow_v all_o the_o chaff_n to_o hell_n to_o find_v out_o those_o few_o corn_n of_o wheat_n to_o lay_v they_o up_o in_o heaven_n so_o that_o out_o of_o all_o question_n england_n be_v so_o full_o of_o chaff_n must_v look_v to_o be_v winnow_v now_o for_o the_o and_o yet_o alas_o many_o be_v more_o godless_a more_o ignorant_a more_o profane_a than_o ever_o they_o be_v yea_o wickedness_n grow_v and_o the_o chaff_n increase_v above_o the_o wheat_n be_v sure_a therefore_o that_o god_n will_v bring_v his_o second_o fan_n upon_o we_o because_o we_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o first_o and_o the_o mild_a and_o gentle_a fan_n of_o his_o word_n to_o try_v and_o search_v we_o therefore_o he_o will_v bring_v the_o fearful_a fan_n of_o his_o judgement_n and_o with_o it_o he_o will_v blow_v soul_n &_o body_n into_o hell_n with_o those_o our_o sin_n &_o corruption_n which_o we_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o fan_n of_o god_n word_n to_o blow_v from_o us._n the_o first_o have_v so_o long_o blow_v in_o vain_a that_o the_o second_o must_v needs_o come_v upon_o we_o &_o it_o have_v already_o begin_v to_o blow_v three_o or_o four_o blast_n have_v blow_v over_o we_o famine_n pestilence_n earthquake_n fire_n water_n wind_n these_o have_v so_o blow_v some_o of_o we_o that_o they_o have_v take_v away_o a_o great_a number_n of_o us._n for_o we_o that_o remain_v this_o only_a remain_v that_o we_o week_n strengthen_v ourselves_o by_o grace_n to_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o the_o next_o blast_n for_o come_v it_o will_v &_o when_o it_o come_v no_o wealth_n nor_o worldly_a thing_n can_v enable_v we_o to_o endure_v it_o only_a faith_n &_o repentance_n &_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n will_v stand_v at_o that_o day_n now_o therefore_o in_o that_o so_o fearful_a a_o fan_a abide_v we_o see_v it_o be_v so_o near_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o blast_n already_o past_a over_o we_o which_o be_v nothing_o but_o the_o forerunner_n of_o a_o great_a tempest_n what_o shall_v be_v our_o care_n except_o we_o care_v not_o to_o be_v blow_v body_n &_o soul_n into_o hell_n but_o to_o labour_v to_o efchew_v this_o fearful_a fan_n of_o god_n wrath_n or_o at_o least_o if_o it_o come_v upon_o we_o that_o it_o may_v not_o blow_v we_o to_o hell_n but_o hasten_v we_o to_o heaven_n it_o thy_o heart_n be_v touch_v to_o ask_v how_o this_o may_v be_v i_o answer_v thou_o only_o to_o follow_v the_o prophet_n advice_n in_o this_o place_n by_o search_v and_o try_v ourselves_o the_o way_n to_o escape_v god_n trial_n be_v to_o try_v thyself_o and_o to_o escape_v god_n judgement_n to_o be_v a_o judge_n to_o thy_o own_o soul_n and_o so_o the_o way_n to_o escape_v the_o fearful_a fan_n of_o god_n be_v to_o fan_v thy_o own_o heart_n by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n for_o whosoever_o the_o first_o fan_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v work_v upon_o these_o man_n be_v never_o blow_v away_o with_o the_o fan_n of_o god_n judgement_n o_o then_o entertain_v the_o word_n of_o god_n into_o thy_o heart_n submit_v thy_o soul_n unto_o it_o let_v it_o pierce_v &_o try_v and_o ransack_v thy_o heart_n and_o lay_v before_o thou_o thy_o wretched_a estate_n by_o thy_o sin_n and_o when_o thou_o see_v thynakednesse_n and_o misery_n confess_v it_o bewail_v thou_o up_o to_o heaven_n to_o be_v lay_v up_o as_o pure_a wheat_n in_o the_o heavenly_a garner_n and_o mansion_n of_o glory_n which_o christ_n ascend_v to_o prepare_v for_o thou_o now_o then_o among_o those_o many_o business_n with_o which_o this_o world_n do_v cumber_v every_o one_o of_o we_o all_o which_o shall_v perish_v with_o the_o world_n itself_o let_v we_o good_a brethren_n spare_v labour_n of_o our_o noble_a king_n to_o take_v order_n that_o that_o mean_v be_v keep_v without_o rise_v to_o the_o right_a hand_n or_o fall_v to_o the_o left_a this_o short_a treatse_n may_v hap_v to_o give_v some_o light_n &_o direction_n therein_o or_o at_o least_o may_v encourage_v &_o stir_v up_o their_o heart_n in_o who_o hand_n it_o be_v to_o do_v it_o under_o your_o worthy_a name_n life_n nor_o those_o minister_n put_v to_o their_o pension_n or_o uncertain_a salaile_n but_o to_o have_v certain_a &_o sufficient_a maintenance_n proportionable_a to_o their_o charge_n and_o beseem_v the_o honour_n of_o a_o christian_a church_n god_n continue_v you_o still_o in_o that_o mind_n and_o make_v many_o more_o of_o the_o same_o with_o you_o so_o shall_v we_o have_v as_o flourish_v a_o church_n as_o any_o christendom_n have_v see_v go_v forward_o in_o that_o and_o other_o your_o religious_a resolution_n it_o be_v the_o true_a way_n to_o honour_n both_o here_o and_o in_o a_o better_a god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o the_o sinner_n 5_o by_o his_o commission_n and_o authority_n in_o the_o last_o word_n god_n will_v say_v deliver_v he_o that_o he_o go_v not_o down_o into_o the_o pit_n for_o i_o have_v receive_v a_o reconciliation_n let_v we_o speak_v of_o they_o in_o order_n as_o they_o lie_v in_o the_o text_n and_o first_o of_o his_o title_n 1_o the_o first_o title_n of_o messenger_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n and_o in_o the_o revelation_n chapter_n the_o minister_n of_o the_o 7._o church_n be_v call_v the_o angel_n of_o those_o church_n so_o that_o it_o be_v apparent_a a_o true_a minister_n be_v a_o angel_n church_n of_o god_n in_o one_o place_n and_o in_o the_o other_o place_n the_o angel_n of_o the_o church_n he_o be_v a_o angel_n or_o messenger_n send_v from_o god_n to_o his_o church_n minister_n this_o consideration_n afford_v matter_n of_o much_o use_n and_o first_o for_o minister_n themselves_o the_o most_o of_o we_o in_o this_o place_n university_n be_v either_o prophet_n or_o son_n of_o the_o prophet_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o prophet_n thou_o be_v god_n angel_n if_o a_o son_n of_o the_o prophet_n thou_o intend_v to_o be_v then_o mark_v thy_o duty_n prophet_n and_o minister_n be_v angel_n in_o the_o very_a institution_n of_o their_o call_n therefore_o word_n thou_o must_v preach_v god_n word_n as_o god_n word_n and_o deliver_v it_o as_o thou_o receive_v it_o for_o angel_n ambassador_n and_o messenger_n carry_v not_o their_o own_o message_n but_o the_o message_n of_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n who_o send_v they_o and_o minister_n carry_v the_o message_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n therefore_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o deliver_v it_o as_o the_o lord_n and_o not_o their_o own_o in_o the_o first_o epistle_n of_o peter_n 4._o 11._o we_o be_v bid_v if_o any_o man_n speak_v let_v he_o speak_v not_o only_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n god_n word_n must_v be_v speak_v and_o as_o god_n temple_n of_o god_n and_o strong_a pilstrong_a pillar_n in_o the_o church_n but_o they_o be_v like_o tender_a plant_n and_o must_v be_v cherish_v prince_n and_o great_a man_n by_o allow_v maintenance_n and_o the_o governor_n by_o establish_v good_a order_n and_o look_v careful_o to_o their_o execution_n must_v see_v that_o these_o plant_n have_v sufficient_a moisture_n to_o grow_v speedy_o to_o perfect_a ripeness_n and_o that_o then_o they_o be_v transplant_v in_o due_a time_n into_o the_o church_n and_o common_a wealth_n these_o be_v the_o tree_n speak_v of_o in_o ezechiel_n which_o grow_v by_o the_o side_n of_o the_o river_n which_o flow_v out_o of_o the_o sanctuary_n etc._n water_n out_o of_o the_o sanctuary_n must_v nourish_v they_o and_o so_o they_o grow_v unto_o their_o perfection_n but_o take_v away_o these_o water_n take_v away_o the_o liberality_n of_o prince_n and_o good_a discipline_n from_o the_o university_n and_o these_o tree_n must_v needs_o decay_v and_o wither_v which_o if_o they_o do_v than_o the_o small_a number_n of_o good_a minister_n will_v be_v few_o &_o few_o &_o of_o one_o of_o a_o 1000_o there_o will_v not_o be_v one_o of_o 2000_o in_o the_o next_o place_n minister_n themselves_o be_v here_o teach_v first_o if_o good_a minister_n minister_n be_v so_o scarce_o then_o let_v every_o man_n fear_n to_o make_v they_o few_o than_o they_o be_v every_o man_n therefore_o for_o himself_o labour_v first_o for_o ability_n then_o for_o conscience_n to_o discharge_v few_o his_o duty_n namely_o to_o be_v a_o angel_n to_o deliver_v faithful_o see_v they_o be_v so_o few_o the_o more_o it_o concern_v they_o to_o cut_v off_o contention_n and_o all_o occasion_n of_o debate_n and_o to_o join_v hand_n in_o hand_n against_o these_o common_a adversary_n in_o the_o three_o place_n young_a student_n be_v call_n here_o teach_v see_v a_o true_a minister_n be_v but_o one_o of_o a_o thousand_o that_o therefore_o they_o bend_v their_o study_n and_o their_o thought_n to_o the_o ministry_n for_o they_o well_o know_v it_o be_v a_o old_a proverb_n the_o best_a thing_n be_v hard_a to_o come_v by_o &_o certain_o there_o be_v so_o few_o good_a so_o it_o be_v a_o commendation_n to_o the_o call_n who_o honour_n &_o excellency_n be_v such_o that_o as_o we_o see_v here_o scarce_o one_o of_o a_o thousand_o attain_v unto_o it_o therefore_o man_n of_o the_o most_o excellent_a gift_n be_v here_o invite_v to_o dedicate_v themselves_o unto_o the_o most_o excellent_a vocation_n yea_o very_a reason_n itself_o will_v urge_v a_o man_n to_o be_v one_o which_o keep_v a_o man_n from_o the_o practice_n of_o this_o high_a function_n for_o it_o be_v not_o to_o live_v in_o the_o university_n or_o in_o the_o college_n and_o to_o study_v though_o a_o man_n never_o so_o fast_o devour_v up_o learning_n but_o to_o be_v a_o good_a minister_n be_v that_o that_o make_v a_o man_n one_o of_o a_o thousand_o in_o the_o last_o place_n hearer_n be_v here_o teach_v their_o duty_n first_o to_o respect_v with_o reverence_n doctrine_n the_o person_n and_o to_o receive_v with_o reverence_n the_o message_n of_o every_o true_a messenger_n see_v it_o be_v so_o rare_a a_o thing_n to_o find_v a_o true_a minister_n for_o as_o nothing_o be_v more_o vile_a or_o base_a than_o a_o evil_a &_o lewd_a minister_n who_o christ_n compare_v to_o salt_n which_o have_v lose_v his_o 13._o savour_n which_o be_v good_a for_o nothing_o but_o to_o be_v cast_v out_o &_o tread_v down_o of_o man_n so_o be_v there_o none_o worthy_a of_o more_o love_n and_o reverence_n than_o a_o holy_a minister_n for_o as_o isaiah_n say_v their_o very_a foot_n be_v beautiful_a which_o bring_v glad_a tiding_n and_o we_o shall_v kiss_v their_o foot_n which_o bring_v news_n of_o peace_n therefore_o all_o good_a christian_n be_v to_o receive_v and_o use_v a_o good_a minister_n as_o s._n paul_n say_v the_o galatian_n 16._o do_v he_o even_o as_o a_o angel_n of_o god_n have_v thou_o of_o private_a man_n as_o in_o the_o day_n of_o persecution_n that_o then_o they_o may_v with_o comfort_n admonish_v &_o advise_v and_o with_o power_n pronounce_v mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n one_o unto_o another_o upon_o their_o true_a repentance_n yet_o always_o remember_v that_o in_o so_o do_v a_o private_a man_n be_v as_o a_o minister_n for_o that_o time_n &_o in_o that_o case_n but_o enormous_a sin_n which_o he_o have_v commit_v to_o the_o public_a scandal_n of_o the_o church_n but_o first_o of_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n nature_n which_o in_o he_o as_o in_o all_o man_n be_v a_o very_a sea_n of_o iniquity_n &_o which_o always_o appear_v the_o more_o the_o near_a a_o man_n come_v to_o god_n and_o therefore_o do_v now_o most_o apparent_o discover_v itself_o in_o the_o prophet_n when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n himself_o second_o he_o complain_v of_o some_o actual_a sin_n of_o his_o life_n and_o it_o be_v more_o likely_a of_o some_o sin_n of_o omission_n call_n then_o of_o commission_n for_o we_o find_v not_o that_o the_o prophet_n be_v ever_o touch_v with_o any_o great_a sin_n &_o where_o we_o know_v it_o not_o we_o be_v in_o charity_n not_o to_o imagine_v it_o so_o that_o it_o be_v most_o probable_a he_o complain_v of_o some_o small_a fault_n or_o negligence_n in_o his_o ministry_n as_o not_o preach_v to_o the_o people_n at_o some_o time_n when_o he_o ought_v or_o not_o preach_v so_o willing_o or_o cheerful_o as_o he_o shall_v or_o desire_v to_o leave_v preach_v because_o the_o people_n be_v stubborn_a &_o disobedient_a or_o some_o impatience_n in_o his_o ministry_n when_o the_o people_n be_v rebellious_a and_o resist_v his_o doctrine_n which_o passion_n may_v the_o rather_o vex_v he_o as_o we_o read_v it_o do_v jeremy_n the_o jew_n be_v so_o stubborn_a &_o stifnecked_a a_o people_n or_o it_o may_v be_v some_o want_n of_o zeal_n or_o forwardness_n these_o or_o some_o such_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o fear_n and_o the_o conscience_n of_o these_o make_v he_o here_o cry_v out_o that_o he_o can_v stand_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n where_o we_o learn_v first_o what_o a_o tender_a conscience_n &_o least_o sin_n and_o he_o must_v endeavour_n in_o his_o call_n not_o only_o to_o be_v clear_a of_o great_a crime_n but_o as_o far_o as_o may_v be_v to_o be_v free_a from_o the_o least_o appearance_n of_o evil_a and_o from_o the_o least_o negligence_n in_o his_o place_n for_o a_o small_a faultin_n other_o man_n be_v great_a in_o they_o and_o that_o which_o may_v be_v some_o way_n pardonable_a in_o other_o man_n be_v no_o way_n in_o they_o they_o must_v therefore_o watch_v over_o themselves_o most_o careful_o sin_n and_o take_v heed_n to_o all_o their_o way_n &_o for_o this_o end_n be_v it_o that_o a_o minister_n in_o godly_a wisdom_n must_v often_o deprive_v himself_o even_o of_o many_o thing_n which_o it_o may_v be_v lawful_o he_o may_v use_v lest_o his_o liberty_n be_v be_v it_o that_o a_o minister_n can_v be_v too_o careful_a in_o his_o call_n in_o his_o word_n diet_n company_n recreation_n apparel_n gestures_z and_o in_o his_o whole_a carriage_n because_o little_a sin_n be_v so_o great_a in_o they_o especial_o private_o minister_n must_v here_o learn_v the_o apostle_n lesson_n to_o be_v instant_a in_o season_n and_o out_o of_o season_n to_o preach_v and_o exhort_v to_o comfort_v and_o rebuke_v public_o and_o private_o to_o good_a to_o bad_a when_o it_o be_v well_o take_v when_o it_o be_v ill_o take_v when_o they_o willing_o receive_v it_o and_o when_o they_o stubborn_o resist_v it_o when_o they_o commend_v he_o and_o reward_v he_o and_o when_o they_o rail_v at_o he_o and_o persecute_v he_o for_o it_o thus_o must_v he_o be_v diligent_a in_o season_n and_o out_o of_o season_n for_o the_o least_o negligence_n in_o his_o duty_n or_o omit_v the_o least_o opportunity_n of_o do_v good_a will_v when_o god_n visit_v his_o conscience_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o vexation_n to_o he_o as_o it_o be_v here_o to_o the_o prophet_n and_o furthermore_o if_o these_o small_a sin_n humble_v thus_o afflict_v the_o prophet_n then_o alas_o what_o be_v to_o be_v think_v of_o those_o minister_n who_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o foul_a and_o scandalous_a sin_n how_o shall_v simony_n incontinency_n usury_n inhospitality_n covetousness_n ignorance_n idleness_n careless_a nonresidencie_n how_o shall_v these_o i_o say_v and_o other_o like_o grievous_a crime_n oppress_v &_o burden_n the_o soul_n when_o as_o the_o small_a sin_n do_v so_o affright_v this_o holy_a man_n sure_o when_o god_n shall_v visit_v they_o their_o state_n will_v be_v most_o fearful_a nor_o shall_v any_o man_n case_n be_v so_o miserable_a as_o a_o unconscionable_a minister_n and_o though_o now_o such_o loose_a and_o licentious_a minister_n seem_v to_o live_v in_o jolitie_n &_o without_o any_o fear_n yet_o when_o god_n shall_v appear_v unto_o their_o conscience_n then_o will_v they_o cry_v out_o in_o fearful_a anguish_n woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v conscience_n and_o again_o if_o these_o small_a fault_n so_o affright_v this_o holy_a prophet_n &_o burden_v his_o conscience_n then_o what_o pitiful_a conscience_n have_v those_o minister_n who_o daily_a negligence_n and_o unconscionable_a carelessness_n in_o their_o place_n be_v such_o as_o all_o man_n speak_v of_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o touch_v sure_o these_o man_n be_v not_o of_o so_o tender_a conscience_n as_o the_o prophet_n be_v &_o either_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_v much_o more_o nice_a than_o need_v or_o else_o these_o man_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v in_o a_o miserable_a estate_n last_o let_v minister_n of_o care_n and_o conscience_n be_v here_o comfort_v in_o the_o example_n do_v of_o the_o prophet_n who_o be_v there_o but_o may_v find_v imperfection_n and_o blemish_n in_o himself_o which_o will_v often_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o woe_n be_v i_o but_o let_v not_o that_o discomfort_n they_o but_o rather_o rejoice_v that_o they_o can_v see_v their_o own_o weakness_n as_o the_o prophet_n do_v here_o if_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o exclaim_v against_o themselves_o they_o be_v not_o alone_o it_o be_v this_o and_o all_o other_o holy_a prophet_n case_n before_o they_o in_o have_v imperfection_n in_o themselves_o they_o be_v no_o more_o miserable_a than_o the_o prophet_n be_v but_o let_v they_o labour_n to_o be_v as_o bless_v in_o see_v &_o complain_v of_o themselves_o as_o he_o be_v and_o let_v every_o minister_v assure_v himself_o that_o the_o more_o he_o make_v conscience_n even_o of_o the_o least_o sin_n of_o all_o the_o more_o he_o resemble_v the_o ancient_a holy_a prophet_n &_o the_o more_o likely_a be_v he_o to_o work_v effectual_o in_o his_o ministry_n for_o his_o duty_n be_v to_o work_v in_o his_o people_n a_o conscience_n not_o of_o great_a sin_n only_o but_o even_o of_o all_o but_o how_o can_v he_o do_v that_o in_o they_o if_o he_o have_v not_o first_o of_o all_o do_v it_o in_o himself_o hence_o it_o be_v therefore_o that_o godly_a minister_n find_v fault_n with_o themselves_o can_v when_o other_o man_n can_v and_o cry_v out_o against_o themselves_o for_o their_o pollution_n with_o the_o prophet_n here_o when_o no_o other_o man_n can_v accuse_v they_o of_o the_o least_o crime_n nay_o when_o other_o do_v magnify_v god_n for_o his_o grace_n on_o they_o and_o praise_v their_o gift_n and_o commend_v their_o good_a life_n even_o then_o do_v they_o condemn_v themselves_o and_o exclaim_v against_o their_o own_o corruption_n and_o flatter_v or_o satisfy_v humour_n this_o be_v not_o for_o they_o that_o be_v god_n servant_n they_o therefore_o that_o will_v be_v slave_n to_o the_o person_n and_o pleasure_n and_o humour_n of_o man_n they_o forget_v that_o they_o be_v god_n servant_n and_o come_v for_o he_o yea_o they_o must_v not_o endeavour_n the_o please_a of_o themselves_o nor_o the_o bring_n of_o their_o own_o purpose_n to_o pass_v but_o in_o every_o motion_n either_o make_v to_o they_o by_o other_o or_o suggest_v from_o their_o own_o heart_n they_o must_v forthwith_o call_v to_o mind_n who_o send_v i_o hither_o &_o for_o who_o be_o i_o come_v even_o from_o &_o for_o god_n therefore_o they_o be_v to_o yield_v to_o nothing_o nor_o aim_n at_o any_o thing_n but_o which_o may_v be_v both_o to_o the_o will_n and_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o he_o that_o send_v they_o and_o if_o the_o great_a man_n of_o this_o world_n command_n do_v think_v it_o wrong_n that_o any_o man_n shall_v command_v their_o servant_n against_o their_o will_n or_o expect_v any_o service_n from_o they_o against_o their_o own_o honour_n then_o let_v they_o think_v it_o reason_n that_o god_n minister_n shall_v not_o be_v command_v any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o god_n will_v or_o against_o his_o honour_n and_o further_o if_o minister_n be_v god_n servant_n then_o let_v they_o regard_v their_o master_n doctrine_n glory_n and_o be_v ashamed_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n either_o in_o their_o doctrine_n or_o life_n which_o may_v dishonour_v he_o that_o servant_n be_v unworthy_a of_o a_o good_a master_n who_o seek_v not_o his_o master_n credit_n in_o all_o his_o course_n last_o if_o they_o be_v god_n embassador_n it_o then_o must_v they_o not_o deliver_v their_o own_o fancy_n or_o invention_n but_o that_o message_n they_o receive_v and_o as_o they_o receive_v it_o so_o must_v they_o deliver_v it_o and_o if_o they_o do_v their_o duty_n faithful_o this_o doctrine_n be_v comfortable_a to_o they_o they_o may_v take_v pain_n with_o joy_n they_o have_v a_o master_n will_v reward_v they_o they_o may_v speak_v free_o so_o it_o be_v with_o discretion_n they_o have_v a_o master_n will_v make_v it_o good_a they_o may_v stand_v bold_o in_o the_o face_n of_o their_o enemy_n they_o have_v a_o master_n will_v defend_v they_o and_o every_o faithful_a minister_n may_v say_v to_o himself_o i_o will_v do_v my_o duty_n and_o deliver_v my_o embassage_n he_o who_o i_o serve_v and_o who_o i_o be_o he_o who_o send_v i_o and_o for_o who_o i_o come_v will_v bear_v i_o out_o and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o inquiry_n which_o god_n make_v and_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o now_o let_v we_o see_v the_o answer_n which_o the_o prophet_n make_v in_o these_o word_n i_o then_o i_o say_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o the_o prophet_n after_o he_o be_v comfort_v by_o god_n and_o have_v his_o sin_n forgive_v then_o answer_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o first_o mark_v here_o what_o a_o great_a duty_n change_n be_v wrought_v on_o the_o sudden_a he_o who_o a_o little_a afore_o fear_v and_o shrink_v at_o the_o least_o appearance_n of_o god_n glory_n now_o stand_v forth_o bold_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o be_v call_v and_o answer_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o so_o great_a a_o matter_n be_v it_o for_o a_o minister_n to_o have_v his_o sin_n forgive_v and_o to_o feel_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n to_o his_o soul_n and_o conscience_n here_o therefore_o we_o have_v a_o answer_n to_o two_o great_a question_n mind_n often_o move_v in_o the_o world_n first_o many_o will_v have_v quietness_n of_o mind_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o can_v attain_v unto_o it_o if_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o may_v to_o they_o i_o answer_v here_o be_v the_o way_n seek_v it_o not_o in_o worldly_a wealth_n carnal_a pleasure_n nor_o humane_a learning_n in_o company_n nor_o recreation_n but_o seek_v it_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o pardon_v of_o thy_o sin_n and_o thou_o shall_v not_o miss_v of_o it_o thus_o shall_v thou_o have_v comfort_n in_o thy_o own_o conscience_n courage_n before_o man_n and_o boldness_n towards_o god_n second_o many_o student_n in_o divinity_n will_v glad_o be_v minister_n and_o do_v sin_n much_o honour_n to_o the_o call_v but_o they_o find_v a_o fear_n and_o shrink_n in_o themselves_o and_o thereby_o a_o unwillingness_n to_o venture_v upon_o it_o if_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o may_v amend_v this_o i_o answer_v or_o rather_o the_o example_n of_o his_o prophet_n answer_v for_o i_o let_v that_o man_n set_v himself_o in_o god_n presence_n enter_v into_o himself_o search_v his_o conscience_n find_v out_o his_o sin_n confess_v and_o bewail_v they_o to_o god_n crave_v pardon_n in_o christ_n blood_n &_o grace_n to_o leave_v they_o &_o cease_v not_o till_o he_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n spirit_n sound_v in_o his_o conscience_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o then_o when_o god_n shall_v ask_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v thou_o will_v answer_v ready_o and_o with_o joy_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o and_o again_o many_o be_v drive_v from_o sin_n this_o call_n to_o behold_v the_o contempt_n and_o reproach_n and_o danger_n which_o belong_v unto_o it_o but_o let_v those_o man_n mark_v here_o the_o phrase_n of_o this_o holy_a prophet_n when_o god_n ask_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v he_o may_v have_v answer_v lord_n i_o will_v go_v but_o such_o disgrace_n and_o discouragement_n do_v accompany_v this_o function_n as_o i_o desire_v to_o be_v excuse_v but_o he_o cast_v aside_o all_o such_o conceit_n answer_v peremptory_o here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o how_o come_v this_o to_o pass_v for_o certain_o the_o prophet_n be_v as_o sensible_a of_o these_o wrong_n as_o any_o of_o we_o all_o for_o he_o be_v noble_o bear_v and_o bring_v up_o &_o be_v of_o the_o blood_n royal_a sure_o because_o he_o see_v he_o be_v in_o god_n favour_n he_o have_v he_o and_o his_o commission_n on_o his_o side_n &_o he_o hold_v this_o for_o a_o sure_a ground_n if_o god_n be_v on_o my_o side_n who_o can_v be_v against_o i_o therefore_o doubtless_o those_o man_n who_o be_v drive_v back_o by_o these_o discouragement_n be_v never_o settle_v in_o assurance_n that_o their_o sin_n be_v forgive_v nor_o satisfy_v sufficient_o that_o god_n be_v on_o the_o side_n of_o all_o good_a minister_n and_o that_o their_o call_v as_o it_o have_v his_o authority_n from_o god_n so_o likewise_o allowance_n blessing_n assisstance_n and_o defence_n of_o god_n above_o any_o other_o call_v for_o if_o they_o be_v they_o will_v scorn_v the_o scorn_n and_o contemn_v the_o contempt_n of_o the_o profane_a world_n and_o with_o much_o courage_n and_o comfort_n set_v their_o hand_n to_o god_n plough_n and_o say_v with_o the_o prophet_n here_o i_o be_o send_v i_o also_o second_o let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o prophet_n when_o god_n ask_v the_o question_n send_v he_o not_o to_o other_o nor_o commend_v other_o to_o that_o service_n as_o be_v to_o be_v think_v he_o may_v have_v do_v many_o in_o the_o church_n of_o the_o jew_n but_o offer_v himself_o here_o be_o i_o it_o control_v the_o carnal_a course_n of_o many_o among_o we_o in_o the_o university_n who_o think_v it_o sufficient_a
