but_o i_o will_v remember_v the_o year_n of_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o most_o high_a the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o a_o christian_n whilst_o he_o live_v here_o below_o have_v its_o uncertainty_n and_o variety_n with_o it_o not_o only_o in_o reference_n to_o the_o world_n and_o the_o concernment_n of_o this_o natural_a life_n but_o likewise_o in_o reference_n to_o heaven_n and_o the_o hope_n and_o expectation_n of_o a_o better_a not_o only_o as_o to_o his_o deal_n with_o man_n but_o to_o his_o converse_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n there_o be_v the_o ebb_n and_o flow_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o be_v the_o fall_v and_o rise_v of_o corruption_n which_o be_v by_o turn_n observable_a in_o he_o as_o we_o may_v see_v here_o in_o this_o instance_n and_o example_n which_o we_o have_v here_o before_o we_o the_o prophet_n david_n himself_o who_o may_v serve_v as_o a_o representation_n of_o all_o other_o christian_n beside_o in_o this_o particular_a how_o ever_o he_o be_v at_o other_o time_n a_o man_n fiull_n of_o faith_n and_o assurance_n yet_o he_o have_v now_o at_o this_o time_n a_o sit_v of_o destrustfulness_n upon_o he_o and_o begin_v to_o call_v in_o question_n the_o love_n and_o affection_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o god_n himself_o to_o he_o but_o yet_o through_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n he_o do_v at_o last_o work_v himself_o out_o of_o it_o and_o he_o tell_v we_o here_o how_o he_o do_v it_o then_o i_o say_v this_o be_v my_o infirmity_n but_o i_o will_v etc._n etc._n in_o the_o text_n itself_o there_o be_v two_o general_a part_n considerable_a first_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o disease_n second_o the_o application_n of_o the_o remedy_n the_o discovery_n of_o the_o disease_n that_o we_o have_v in_o these_o word_n then_o i_o say_v this_o be_v my_o infirmity_n the_o application_n or_o resolution_n upon_o the_o remedy_n that_o we_o have_v in_o these_o but_o i_o will_v remember_v the_o year_n etc._n etc._n we_o begin_v with_o the_o former_a viz._n the_o discovery_n of_o the_o disease_n then_o i_o say_v this_o be_v etc._n etc._n wherein_o again_o we_o have_v two_o branch_n more_o first_o the_o simple_a proposition_n this_o be_v my_o infirmity_n second_o the_o rersonal_a keflexion_n i_o say_v this_o be_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v in_o the_o thing_n itself_o and_o it_o be_v also_o in_o the_o psalmist_n own_o observation_n first_o take_v it_o simple_o in_o the_o proposition_n and_o in_o the_o thing_n itself_o this_o be_v my_o infirmity_n wherein_o there_o be_v divers_a point_n include_v and_o exhibit_v to_o we_o we_o will_v take_v they_o as_o they_o lie_v before_o we_o first_o we_o see_v here_o how_o the_o saint_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n themselves_o they_o have_v their_o infirmity_n my_o infirmity_n say_v david_n who_o be_v a_o holy_a man_n a_o man_n after_o god_n own_o heart_n as_o the_o scripture_n sometime_o describe_v he_o yet_o he_o have_v his_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n with_o he_o and_o so_o also_o have_v all_o other_o beside_o his_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d his_o often_o infirmity_n as_o it_o be_v record_v of_o he_o 1_o tim._n 5.23_o but_o also_o spiritual_a and_o mental_a the_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o inward_a man_n they_o be_v those_o which_o be_v here_o mention_v in_o this_o place_n these_o be_v such_o as_o the_o child_n of_o god_n have_v even_o in_o the_o holy_a and_o exact_a of_o they_o as_o it_o be_v here_o employ_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o be_v this_o first_o the_o relic_n and_o remainder_n of_o the_o old_a man_n still_o abide_v in_o they_o where_o the_o root_n be_v remain_v there_o will_v be_v fruit_n answerable_a to_o it_o according_a to_o the_o proposition_n of_o it_o now_o thus_o it_o be_v here_o in_o this_o particular_a the_o child_n of_o god_n they_o be_v flesh_n as_o well_o as_o spirit_n and_o so_o farforth_o as_o they_o be_v flesh_n there_o will_v be_v somewhat_o proceed_v from_o they_o which_o shall_v savour_v of_o it_o the_o flesh_n lust_n against_o the_o spirit_n as_o well_o as_o the_o spirit_n against_o the_o flesh_n as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o gal._n 5.17_o second_o grace_n be_v wrought_v imperfect_o in_o they_o while_o they_o be_v here_o in_o this_o world_n so_o much_o there_o be_v of_o the_o flesh_n so_o much_o the_o more_o there_o be_v to_o cause_n infirmity_n and_o so_o much_o the_o less_o as_o there_o be_v of_o the_o spirit_n so_o much_o the_o less_o on_o the_o otherside_n to_o prevent_v they_o i_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n say_v the_o apostle_n paul_n through_o christ_n that_o strengthen_v i_o a_o christian_a be_v so_o far_o free_a from_o infirmity_n as_o it_o please_v christ_n to_o strengthen_v he_o but_o this_o be_v not_o absolute_o and_o perfect_o while_o he_o remain_v here_o in_o thy_o world_n neither_o as_o to_o habitual_a grace_n nor_o auxiliary_a neither_o as_o to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o principle_n which_o be_v but_o in_o a_o weak_a measure_n and_o degree_n nor_o as_o to_o the_o concurrence_n with_o the_o opperation_n which_o be_v various_a and_o different_a in_o they_o also_o and_o at_o the_o best_a but_o very_o imperfect_a therefore_o this_o teach_v we_o to_o esteem_v of_o man_n as_o man_n not_o to_o think_v of_o they_o above_o that_o which_o be_v write_v as_o the_o apostle_n advise_v nor_o to_o accept_v more_o from_o they_o than_o be_v indeed_o in_o they_o not_o to_o look_v for_o a_o perfection_n in_o this_o life_n from_o the_o best_a that_o be_v for_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v as_o no_o man_n shall_v think_v of_o himself_o more_o high_o than_o he_o ought_v to_o think_v so_o neither_o shall_v he_o think_v so_o of_o other_o man_n but_o so_o to_o honour_v their_o grace_n as_o withal_o to_o make_v account_n of_o their_o infirmity_n the_o one_o to_o be_v pursue_v and_o imitate_v while_o the_o other_o be_v to_o be_v shun_v and_o avoid_v even_o david_n he_o have_v his_o infirmity_n that_o be_v the_o first_o second_o as_o good_a man_n have_v their_o infirmity_n so_o common_o they_o have_v some_o one_o more_o especial_o which_o they_o be_v addict_v and_o incline_v unto_o as_o they_o have_v corruption_n in_o they_o at_o large_a so_o this_o corruption_n more_o particular_o and_o especial_o which_o they_o be_v encumber_v withal_o this_o be_v my_o infirmity_n say_v the_o psalmist_n by_o way_n of_o appropriation_n original_a corruption_n it_o do_v not_o run_v out_o alike_o in_o all_o but_o have_v its_o variety_n and_o diversity_n of_o improvement_n in_o some_o after_o one_o manner_n and_o in_o other_o after_o another_o as_o we_o see_v it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n though_o all_o man_n be_v in_o regard_n of_o their_o nature_n subject_n to_o all_o kind_n of_o disease_n yet_o all_o do_v not_o alike_o partake_v of_o they_o some_o be_v more_o inclinable_a to_o one_o and_o some_o to_o another_o even_o so_o be_v it_o also_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o inward_a man_n every_o christian_a have_v his_o infirmity_n this_o shall_v teach_v every_o
themselves_o yet_o they_o know_v that_o he_o can_v help_v they_o and_o redress_v all_o unto_o they_o there_o be_v a_o change_n in_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o most_o high_a and_o that_o again_o with_o a_o double_a amplification_n and_o enlargement_n of_o it_o to_o we_o as_o employ_v in_o the_o right_a hand_n first_o he_o can_v do_v it_o effectual_o as_o the_o right_a hand_n be_v a_o expression_n of_o ability_n and_o second_o he_o can_v do_v it_o ready_o as_o the_o right_a hand_n be_v a_o expression_n of_o slight_a first_o powerful_o and_o effectual_o he_o can_v do_v it_o so_o we_o have_v great_a and_o sundry_a instance_n of_o it_o how_o god_n have_v deliver_v his_o people_n out_o of_o the_o sad_a and_o most_o desperate_a condition_n in_o which_o they_o have_v be_v and_o that_o by_o his_o great_a and_o almighty_a power_n he_o have_v raise_v from_o the_o grave_a he_o have_v make_v the_o dead_a bone_n to_o live_v he_o have_v turn_v the_o shadow_n of_o death_n into_o lord_n can_v change_v this_o namely_o the_o infirmity_n of_o his_o condition_n that_o be_v the_o first_o again_o second_o for_o the_o infirmity_n of_o his_o spirit_n he_o can_v change_v that_o also_o david_n be_v now_o as_o we_o have_v hear_v under_o a_o great_a temptation_n of_o mind_n and_o spiritual_a distemper_n which_o be_v upon_o he_o which_o be_v grievous_a to_o he_o and_o whereof_o he_o here_o complain_v now_o he_o herein_o comfort_n himself_o that_o god_n be_v able_a to_o take_v it_o away_o from_o he_o who_o forgive_v all_o thy_o sin_n and_o heal_v all_o thy_o disease_n not_o only_a corporal_n but_o spiritual_n those_o invincible_a infirmity_n and_o corruption_n which_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n be_v trouble_v withal_o and_o groan_v under_o while_o they_o be_v here_o in_o the_o world_n in_o this_o vayl_n of_o flesh_n the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n it_o can_v scatter_v they_o and_o remove_v they_o and_o take_v they_o away_o from_o they_o and_o it_o be_v a_o very_a great_a comfort_n to_o they_o to_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o it_o can_v so_o as_o it_o be_v here_o in_o the_o text_n to_o the_o psalmist_n in_o this_o present_a distress_n and_o perplexity_n and_o trouble_n in_o which_o he_o now_o be_v he_o do_v sustain_v himself_o from_o god_n power_n and_o the_o consideration_n of_o what_o god_n will_v do_v the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o lord_n can_v change_v all_o this_o and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o read_v of_o the_o word_n according_a to_o our_o old_a translation_n now_o further_o second_o for_o this_o last_o here_o before_o we_o that_o be_v this_o i_o will_v remember_v the_o year_n of_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o most_o high_a where_o the_o word_n remember_v be_v borrow_v from_o the_o next-following_a verse_n to_o supply_v the_o sense_n of_o this_o as_o otherwise_o be_v not_o in_o the_o text._n now_o here_o the_o prophet_n david_n fetch_v a_o ground_n of_o comfort_n from_o god_n practice_n as_o before_o he_o do_v from_o his_o power_n there_o from_o what_o god_n can_v do_v here_o from_o what_o he_o have_v do_v already_o in_o former_a time_n and_o age_n and_o generation_n he_o be_v resolve_v to_o reflect_v upon_o this_o as_o it_o be_v also_o in_o the_o five_o verse_n of_o this_o psalm_n now_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n especial_o which_o david_n here_o do_v reflect_v upon_o to_o this_o purpose_n for_o the_o satisfy_n and_o quiet_v of_o his_o spirit_n the_o one_o be_v god_n deal_n with_o his_o people_n former_o as_o to_o point_v of_o seem_a desertion_n and_o outward_a discouragement_n and_o the_o other_o be_v god_n deal_n with_o his_o people_n former_o as_o to_o seasonable_a recovery_n and_o final_a acknowledgement_n to_o each_o of_o these_o purpose_n will_v he_o remember_v the_o year_n of_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o most_o high_a and_o each_o of_o they_o be_v a_o relief_n unto_o they_o first_o it_o be_v a_o relief_n to_o his_o spirit_n and_o a_o kind_n of_o heal_v of_o that_o present_a infirmity_n and_o distemper_n which_o be_v now_o upon_o he_o to_o consider_v how_o god_n have_v do_v with_o his_o people_n in_o former_a time_n and_o age_n as_o to_o seem_a desertion_n this_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o help_n unto_o he_o that_o so_o he_o may_v see_v that_o he_o be_v no_o worse_o deal_v with_o than_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n in_o all_o season_n of_o the_o world_n that_o the_o same_o affliction_n this_o expression_n first_o here_o be_v the_o consistence_n of_o god_n counsel_n with_o man_n by_o take_v the_o word_n copulative_o for_o and_n as_o man_n have_v his_o device_n so_o god_n also_o have_v his_o counsel_n there_o be_v the_o one_o as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o counsel_n or_o devise_v be_v but_o improper_o attribute_v to_o god_n who_o need_v not_o such_o help_n as_o those_o be_v may_v make_v for_o our_o particular_a of_o this_o observation_n be_v brief_o this_o namely_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o therefore_o think_v ourselves_o at_o any_o time_n to_o be_v whole_o free_a or_o year_n also_o this_o it_o proceed_v upon_o these_o ground_n first_o that_o speech_n love_n and_o affection_n which_o they_o bear_v unto_o they_o hatred_n be_v all_o for_o destroy_v and_o that_o out_o of_o hand_n but_o love_n it_o be_v desirous_a of_o spare_v and_o preserve_v of_o the_o party_n belove_v as_o long_o as_o it_o can_v it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o the_o great_a want_n of_o this_o in_o the_o prophet_n jonah_n when_o he_o will_v have_v the_o ninevite_n present_o destroy_v at_o the_o first_o dash_n what_o no_o more_o but_o so_o where_o there_o be_v so_o many_o thousand_o inhabitant_n in_o it_o what_o a_o unworthy_a disposition_n be_v this_o and_o far_o from_o those_o bowel_n which_o be_v desirable_a in_o the_o lord_n prophet_n who_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v better_o affect_v second_o there_o be_v ground_n for_o this_o desire_n and_o request_n of_o minister_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o their_o people_n from_o that_o hope_n which_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o conceive_v of_o their_o amendment_n and_o reformation_n lord_n let_v they_o alone_o this_o year_n because_o it_o may_v be_v this_o year_n they_o will_v change_v and_o alter_v course_n it_o be_v true_a they_o have_v be_v unprofitable_a and_o unfruitful_a for_o these_o three_o year_n past_a but_o it_o may_v be_v in_o one_o more_o they_o will_v reform_v and_o grow_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o do_v but_o try_v they_o that_o so_o that_o horeby_o be_v signify_v to_o we_o that_o hopefulness_n which_o it_o become_v those_o who_o be_v pastor_n and_o have_v the_o care_n of_o soul_n to_o have_v in_o themselves_o in_o such_o case_n not_o too_o easy_o to_o be_v deject_v and_o discourage_v and_o put_v out_o of_o heart_n where_o they_o find_v not_o that_o present_a effect_n of_o their_o ministry_n which_o they_o may_v wish_v or_o expect_v for_o if_o it_o come_v not_o one_o year_n yet_o it_o may_v haply_o come_v another_o and_o therefore_o let_v it_o alone_o this._n three_o this_o disposition_n in_o minister_n proceed_v out_o of_o respect_n to_o themselves_o and_o a_o holy_a jealousy_n and_o suspicion_n which_o they_o may_v conceive_v of_o their_o own_o neglectfulness_n lord_n let_v it_o alone_o one_o year_n more_o say_v the_o vine-dresser_n here_o of_o the_o figtree_n till_o i_o dig_v about_o it_o and_o dung_n it_o as_o who_o shall_v say_v it_o may_v be_v lord_n there_o may_v some_o fault_n lie_v therefore_o let_v it_o alone_o a_o while_n long_o that_o so_o i_o may_v do_v my_o utmost_a and_o be_v no_o way_n want_v in_o that_o duty_n which_o be_v require_v of_o i_o and_o so_o now_o i_o have_v for_o the_o first_o the_o phrase_n or_o expression_n we_o may_v here_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o nature_n and_o condition_n of_o a_o minister_n work_v and_o employment_n which_o because_o it_o be_v express_v to_o we_o by_o dig_v and_o dung_v it_o be_v hereby_o signify_v to_o be_v a_o very_a difficult_a and_o laborious_a service_n digging_z it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o some_o painfulness_n the_o unjust_a steward_n can_v not_o dig_v when_o he_o be_v ashamed_a to_o beg_v luke_n 16.2_o not_o only_o for_o want_v of_o skill_n but_o for_o love_n of_o ease_n because_o it_o have_v troublesomeness_n in_o it_o such_o a_o business_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n if_o it_o be_v follow_v so_o as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v and_o so_o be_v express_v and_o it_o be_v useful_a for_o we_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o both_o minister_n and_o people_n that_o according_o we_o may_v be_v affect_v and_o dispose_v in_o ourselves_o concern_v it_o minister_n that_o we_o may_v apply_v ourselves_o with_o all_o industry_n and_o diligence_n to_o it_o as_o not_o think_v that_o any_o thing_n will_v serve_v our_o turn_n in_o the_o discharge_n of_o it_o no_o we_o must_v labour_v and_o â—oyl_n and_o dig_v and_o take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o our_o duty_n in_o this_o particular_a we_o deal_v in_o mystery_n and_o in_o deep_a thing_n the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n which_o be_v not_o receive_v without_o our_o much_o dig_v and_o so_o for_o people_n they_o shall_v according_o esteem_v of_o it_o there_o be_v many_o who_o think_v the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n to_o be_v the_o easy_a matter_n in_o the_o world_n and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v as_o some_o may_v make_v it_o but_o in_o itself_o and_o perform_v as_o it_o shall_v be_v it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o and_o so_o shall_v we_o esteem_v of_o it_o from_o this_o phrase_n and_o notion_n now_o second_o for_o the_o thing_n itself_o or_o notion_n take_v this_o passage_n in_o the_o scope_n and_o connexion_n of_o it_o there_o be_v so_o far_o hereby_o signify_v and_o intimate_v unto_o we_o the_o efficacy_n and_o advantage_n of_o the_o ministry_n to_o such_o a_o purpose_n as_o be_v here_o express_v till_o i_o shall_v dig_v about_o it_o and_o dung_n it_o as_o who_o shall_v say_v that_o will_v do_v it_o this_o figtree_n which_o have_v be_v hitherto_o barren_a the_o vine-dresser_n make_v account_v that_o by_o his_o labour_n it_o will_v be_v make_v better_a lord_n do_v not_o cut_v it_o down_o yet_o because_o there_o be_v not_o all_o do_v about_o it_o which_o may_v be_v from_o whence_o we_o may_v note_v thus_o much_o that_o the_o labour_n and_o pain_n of_o the_o minister_n be_v a_o mean_n whereby_o god_n have_v sanctify_v and_o appoint_v for_o the_o good_a and_o edification_n of_o the_o people_n if_o any_o thing_n do_v they_o good_a and_o make_v they_o to_o be_v that_o which_o they_o shall_v be_v this_o be_v that_o which_o must_v do_v it_o preach_v and_o take_v pain_n with_o wither_a soul_n and_o there_o be_v many_o a_o barren_a heart_n which_o one_o will_v have_v think_v will_v never_o have_v come_v to_o any_o thing_n which_o yet_o by_o the_o care_n and_o industry_n of_o those_o who_o have_v be_v employ_v about_o it_o have_v at_o last_o prove_v to_o be_v useful_a and_o have_v bring_v forth_o abundance_n of_o fruit_n the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v this_o because_o the_o loathe_v the_o honeycomb_n those_o which_o be_v at_o the_o wellhead_n and_o enjoy_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n in_o great_a abundance_n they_o be_v apt_a to_o scorn_v and_o despise_v those_o that_o be_v when_o we_o do_v not_o improve_v it_o to_o that_o purpose_n as_o indeed_o we_o shall_v and_o as_o god_n have_v intend_v it_o for_o sure_o it_o be_v a_o great_a part_n of_o god_n goodness_n that_o he_o be_v please_v to_o deal_v thus_o gracious_o with_o we_o as_o to_o afford_v we_o such_o help_n as_o these_o be_v for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o our_o weak_a faith_n that_o though_o his_o bare_a word_n and_o promise_n be_v enough_o of_o itself_o consider_v alone_o yet_o that_o he_o be_v please_v over_o and_o above_o to_o add_v a_o further_a confirmation_n hereunto_o and_o to_o condescend_v and_o come_v down_o to_o our_o outward_a sense_n in_o these_o visible_a representation_n that_o so_o there_o may_v be_v nothing_o want_v on_o his_o part_n to_o encourage_v we_o to_o
