ezek._n 12.22_o 2._o pet._n 3.3_o 4._o concern_v these_o the_o lord_n declare_v that_o this_o disposition_n be_v a_o evidence_n of_o a_o plague_n upon_o they_o and_o of_o more_o yet_o to_o come_v prophet_n will_v make_v their_o word_n good_a which_o they_o expect_v will_v never_o be_v albeit_o many_o who_o harbour_v such_o thought_n will_v be_v unwilling_a it_o shall_v be_v know_v yet_o god_n be_v provoke_v to_o pluck_v off_o the_o mask_n and_o bring_v they_o out_o and_o where_o the_o word_n effectual_o preach_v do_v not_o prevail_v corruption_n will_v be_v irritate_fw-la thereby_o to_o common_a notion_n and_o remember_v of_o it_o it_o come_v to_o be_v more_o serious_o ponder_v and_o lay_v to_o heart_n and_o till_o it_o take_v hold_v upon_o the_o affection_n and_o conquer_v the_o whole_a heart_n to_o god_n ver._n 30._o and_o i_o will_v show_v wonder_n in_o the_o heaven_n and_o in_o the_o earth_n blood_n and_o fire_n and_o pillar_n of_o smoke_n 31._o the_o sun_n shall_v be_v turn_v into_o darkness_n and_o the_o moon_n into_o blood_n before_o the_o great_a and_o terrible_a day_n of_o the_o lord_n come_v to_o prevent_v all_o secure_a and_o carnal_a thought_n as_o if_o upon_o embrace_v of_o the_o gospel_n and_o receive_v of_o the_o spirit_n man_n shall_v be_v rid_v of_o all_o outward_a trouble_n the_o lord_n foretell_v of_o great_a commotion_n which_o be_v to_o be_v world_n full_a of_o dreadful_a fight_n of_o blood_n fire_n and_o darkness_n and_o neither_o sun_n or_o moon_n afford_v wont_a light_n or_o comfort_n to_o dip_v further_o into_o what_o may_v be_v connceive_v to_o be_v figurative_o point_v at_o under_o every_o one_o of_o these_o i_o conceive_v be_v not_o very_o safe_a doct._n 1._o whatever_o breathe_v time_n god_n may_v allow_v upon_o his_o gospel-church_n yet_o it_o be_v her_o duty_n to_o look_v for_o commotion_n and_o trouble_n especial_o after_o time_n of_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o time_n of_o much_o light_n and_o reformation_n for_o upon_o the_o one_o hand_n satan_n will_v bend_v all_o his_o power_n to_o oppose_v the_o progress_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o will_v set_v the_o world_n in_o opposition_n to_o the_o church_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n god_n will_v pour_v out_o all_o sort_n of_o calamity_n upon_o the_o visible_a church_n to_o punish_v they_o who_o contemn_v his_o rich_a offer_n and_o do_v not_o walk_v answerable_o to_o such_o dispensation_n and_o to_o try_v the_o grace_n of_o his_o own_o that_o they_o may_v aspire_v towards_o spiritual_a happiness_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o will_v punish_v secret_a and_o open_a enemy_n for_o the_o injury_n they_o do_v to_o the_o church_n for_o these_o cause_n be_v this_o prediction_n subjoin_v to_o the_o former_a promise_n 2._o it_o be_v the_o the_o lord_n do_v convince_v israel_n that_o he_o be_v call_v by_o he_o in_o that_o he_o dare_v leave_v his_o own_o country_n and_o trust_v in_o god_n dare_v deal_v free_o with_o this_o flourish_a kingdom_n according_a to_o their_o deserve_n 5._o it_o be_v a_o great_a snare_n to_o a_o wicked_a nation_n when_o they_o prosper_v notwithstanding_o their_o wickedness_n and_o there_o be_v need_n in_o for_o a_o time_n 2._o king_n 14_o 23_o 24_o 25_o etc._n etc._n 2._o chron_n 26._o 3_o 6_o 7._o 6._o when_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o regard_v it_o be_v just_a with_o he_o to_o preach_v to_o a_o people_n by_o his_o judgement_n and_o by_o unnatural_a and_o extraordinary_a sign_n and_o wonder_n to_o let_v they_o know_v his_o anger_n so_o much_o may_v be_v gather_v from_o this_o earthquake_n which_o be_v a_o terrible_a stroke_n and_o warning_n to_o that_o people_n who_o believe_v not_o and_o therefore_o be_v take_v special_a notice_n of_o here_o and_o long_o after_o zech._n upon_o the_o receipt_n of_o some_o special_a favour_n or_o performance_n of_o some_o vow_n they_o do_v not_o serve_v to_o warrant_v a_o man_n to_o devise_v any_o part_n of_o worship_n of_o his_o own_o it_o in_o what_o it_o threaten_v for_o the_o future_a 2._o however_o the_o lord_n be_v absolute_a and_o sovereign_a and_o may_v yet_o forbear_v yea_o and_o cure_v even_o they_o who_o prove_v themselves_o otherwise_o incorrigible_a under_o threaten_n or_o judgement_n isa_n 57.17_o 18_o yet_o in_o his_o ordinary_a procedure_n his_o threaten_n do_v portend_v a_o storm_n and_o that_o judgement_n be_v come_v and_o will_v come_v except_o they_o be_v prevent_v by_o repentance_n for_o the_o lion_n râ—aring_v intimate_v that_o he_o have_v a_o prey_n or_o be_v to_o fall_v upon_o it_o 3._o god_n reveal_v his_o displeasure_n by_o threaten_n be_v very_o dreadful_a and_o will_v prove_v so_o if_o sinner_n provoke_v he_o to_o execute_v what_o he_o threaten_v therefore_o be_v he_o compare_v to_o a_o lion_n who_o roar_a be_v dreafull_a and_o that_o so_o much_o the_o more_o as_o when_o he_o roar_v he_o be_v about_o to_o tear_v the_o prey_n verse_n 5._o can_v a_o bird_n fall_v in_o a_o snare_n upon_o the_o earth_n where_o no_o gin_n be_v for_o he_o shall_v one_o take_v up_o a_o snare_n from_o the_o earth_n and_o have_v take_v nothing_o at_o all_o four_o whereas_o they_o may_v allege_v that_o albeit_o affliction_n have_v come_v or_o shall_v come_v upon_o they_o yet_o what_o need_v they_o keep_v such_o a_o business_n about_o they_o since_o nothing_o be_v more_o ordinary_a then_o to_o see_v such_o revolution_n that_o all_o kingdom_n and_o nation_n as_o well_o as_o they_o have_v their_o own_o time_n of_o affliction_n and_o after_o a_o time_n their_o case_n alter_v again_o and_o they_o recover_v the_o lord_n to_o obviate_v this_o declare_v 1._o that_o as_o a_o bird_n be_v not_o take_v on_o the_o earth_n without_o a_o snare_n so_o affliction_n upon_o person_n or_o nation_n do_v not_o come_v by_o chance_n nor_o without_o his_o special_a providence_n 2._o that_o as_o a_o fowler_n do_v not_o willing_o nor_o usual_o though_o sometime_o he_o may_v for_o want_n of_o power_n to_o prosecute_v his_o purpose_n and_o so_o the_o similitude_n be_v not_o to_o be_v strain_v take_v up_o his_o net_n before_o he_o catch_v his_o prey_n so_o neither_o can_v prophet_n cease_v to_o threaten_v till_o either_o they_o be_v take_v therewith_o and_o bring_v as_o true_a penitent_n to_o god_n mercy_n or_o be_v give_v up_o to_o justice_n nor_o will_v rod_n be_v remove_v till_o either_o they_o be_v amend_v or_o destroy_v by_o they_o doct._n 1._o such_o as_o do_v contemn_v and_o make_v ill_a use_n of_o the_o threaten_n of_o the_o word_n will_v ready_o also_o contemn_v and_o harden_v themselves_o under_o sad_a plague_n for_o so_o much_o do_v the_o connexion_n of_o this_o with_o the_o former_a verse_n teach_v and_o such_o as_o make_v but_o ill_a use_n of_o rod_n will_v look_v upon_o that_o as_o the_o fruit_n of_o despise_v the_o word_n and_o till_o that_o be_v first_o mourn_v for_o the_o other_o will_v not_o be_v get_v amend_v 2._o one_o great_a distemper_n and_o cause_n of_o man_n harden_v themselves_o under_o affliction_n be_v their_o unwillingness_n to_o see_v a_o hand_n of_o god_n in_o they_o which_o will_v invite_v and_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o repent_v and_o turn_v to_o he_o as_o the_o only_a remedy_n of_o their_o grievance_n for_o this_o be_v the_o distemper_n here_o refute_v and_o we_o find_v it_o very_o eminent_o in_o the_o philistine_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o conviction_n 1._o sam._n 6.9_o 3._o whatever_o be_v the_o shift_n of_o man_n heart_n yet_o it_o be_v a_o clear_a truth_n which_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o believe_v and_o make_v use_n of_o that_o their_o affliction_n come_v by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n that_o it_o be_v his_o forbearance_n which_o keep_v they_o from_o that_o gin_n and_o his_o hand_n that_o entrap_v they_o for_o in_o this_o he_o appeal_v to_o themselves_o and_o press_v this_o truth_n upon_o they_o can_v a_o bird_n fall_v into_o a_o snare_n upon_o the_o earth_n where_o no_o gin_n be_v for_o he_o the_o study_n of_o this_o truth_n be_v very_o necessary_a partly_o that_o man_n may_v dream_v of_o no_o issue_n so_o long_o as_o they_o neglect_v to_o turn_v to_o god_n partly_o that_o they_o may_v tremble_v and_o be_v affect_v that_o they_o have_v to_o do_v with_o such_o a_o party_n who_o anger_n be_v dreadful_a and_o in_o who_o favour_n be_v their_o life_n partly_o that_o they_o may_v be_v patient_a towards_o instrument_n of_o their_o trouble_n when_o they_o see_v god_n employ_v they_o and_o partly_o also_o that_o be_v reconcile_v with_o god_n they_o may_v be_v comfort_v that_o his_o hand_n and_o providence_n be_v supreme_a in_o measure_v out_o their_o trouble_n who_o number_n the_o very_a hair_n of_o their_o head_n math._n 10.30_o 4._o it_o be_v a_o judgement_n on_o wicked_a man_n that_o plague_v send_v upon_o they_o be_v as_o snare_n and_o begin_v to_o they_o for_o so_o be_v they_o here_o express_v in_o this_o similitude_n not_o only_o because_o their_o own_o sin_n prove_v a_o net_n to_o catch_v they_o in_o and_o deliver_v they_o to_o justice_n or_o because_o many_o time_n snare_n be_v their_o great_a plague_n when_o outward_a favour_n harden_v they_o in_o sin_n but_o 1._o because_o their_o affliction_n do_v surprise_v they_o inexpected_o and_o they_o be_v still_o take_v asleep_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o warning_n they_o get_v luke_n 21.24_o 45._o 2._o because_o their_o affliction_n be_v plague_v to_o they_o and_o by_o their_o carriage_n under_o they_o they_o draw_v still_o on_o more_o affliction_n as_o a_o bird_n take_v in_o a_o snare_n do_v but_o entangle_v itself_o the_o more_o that_o it_o endeavour_v to_o escape_v doct._n 5._o whatever_o be_v the_o lord_n sovereignty_n in_o grace_n to_o change_v his_o dispensation_n towards_o his_o people_n when_o he_o please_v yet_o such_o as_o be_v ill_o please_v with_o rough_a message_n or_o judgement_n may_v blame_v themselves_o for_o their_o continuance_n since_o they_o be_v send_v upon_o a_o errand_n and_o we_o must_v do_v what_o they_o be_v send_v to_o work_v before_o they_o be_v remove_v for_o shall_v one_o take_v up_o a_o snare_n from_o the_o earth_n and_o have_v take_v nothing_o at_o all_o verse_n 6._o shall_v a_o trumpet_n be_v blow_v in_o the_o city_n and_o the_o people_n not_o be_v afraid_a shall_v there_o be_v evil_a in_o a_o city_n and_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o do_v it_o in_o this_o v._o the_o prophet_n repeat_v and_o confirm_v and_o inculcare_n what_o have_v be_v say_v concern_v threaten_v and_o affliction_n that_o so_o he_o may_v stir_v they_o up_o and_o let_v they_o see_v their_o stupidity_n and_o 1._o as_o for_o threaten_n he_o declare_v that_o they_o in_o any_o of_o their_o city_n will_v present_o fear_v some_o danger_n and_o gather_v together_o for_o prevent_v it_o if_o the_o watchman_n sound_v the_o trumpet_n at_o a_o extraordinary_a time_n and_o give_v they_o the_o alarm_n and_o why_o then_o will_v they_o not_o be_v sensible_a when_o god_n by_o he_o threaten_v they_o with_o his_o wrath_n and_o that_o the_o enemy_n shall_v come_v against_o they_o 2._o as_o for_o the_o evil_n that_o have_v come_v or_o be_v to_o come_v upon_o they_o in_o any_o of_o their_o city_n he_o declare_v that_o they_o can_v not_o deny_v but_o they_o be_v of_o god_n and_o therefore_o why_o do_v they_o sleep_v so_o secure_o whence_o learn_v 1._o alarm_n and_o threaten_n from_o the_o word_n be_v as_o terrible_a as_o any_o thing_n can_v be_v and_o will_v be_v think_v so_o if_o they_o we_o well_o consider_v upon_o therefore_o be_v they_o compare_v to_o a_o trumpet_n blow_v in_o the_o city_n give_v the_o alarm_n of_o a_o enemy_n approach_n 2._o man_n own_o conscience_n may_v convince_v they_o of_o dreadful_a stupidity_n if_o they_o fear_v not_o when_o they_o be_v threaten_v and_o their_o sense_n of_o common_a and_o visible_a danger_n will_v plead_v against_o they_o and_o tell_v they_o that_o they_o fear_v
