dumb_a in_o a_o day_n of_o calamity_n and_o do_v see_v so_o much_o provocation_n among_o a_o people_n and_o so_o much_o incorrigibleness_n under_o other_o mean_n that_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o say_v wherefore_o god_n shall_v not_o take_v his_o rod_n in_o his_o hand_n for_o beside_o the_o general_a duty_n this_o be_v it_o which_o be_v here_o hold_v forth_o in_o particular_a as_o a_o addition_n to_o israel_n calamity_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v smite_v and_o the_o godly_a shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o plead_v why_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o the_o prudent_a shall_v keep_v 4._o albeit_o it_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o man_n enjoy_n real_a good_a when_o they_o sincere_o seek_v god_n and_o albeit_o there_o be_v much_o good_a daily_o confer_v on_o they_o who_o be_v seek_v he_o yet_o the_o sincere_a seeker_n of_o god_n will_v see_v his_o want_n most_o and_o be_v set_v on_o work_n to_o pursue_v after_o what_o be_v good_a and_o these_o who_o be_v sincere_o pursue_v be_v accept_v in_o god_n sight_n therefore_o be_v true_a penitent_n describe_v that_o they_o seek_v good_a rather_o than_o by_o their_o enjoyment_n 5._o man_n must_v not_o lay_v their_o account_n to_o seek_v after_o good_a retain_v their_o former_a evil_n but_o they_o who_o will_v approve_v themselves_o must_v abandon_v they_o that_o they_o may_v enjoy_v good_a yea_o their_o former_a fervour_n in_o and_o epicure_n do_v not_o acknowledge_v god_n or_o a_o providence_n nor_o will_v believe_v any_o thing_n of_o approach_a judgement_n or_o such_o who_o be_v presumptuous_o secure_a of_o god_n favour_n and_o a_o interest_n in_o he_o can_v not_o believe_v that_o any_o such_o day_n will_v come_v as_o the_o prophet_n threaten_v or_o that_o it_o will_v be_v so_o dreadful_a to_o they_o as_o the_o prophet_n foretell_v and_o therefore_o in_o presumptuous_a scorn_n they_o desire_v once_o to_o see_v that_o day_n wherewith_o they_o be_v so_o often_o threaten_v see_v isa_n 5.19_o jer._n 17.15_o ezek._n 12.22_o 2._o pet._n 3.3_o 4._o concern_v these_o the_o lord_n declare_v that_o this_o disposition_n be_v a_o evidence_n of_o a_o plague_n upon_o they_o and_o of_o more_o yet_o to_o come_v and_o that_o they_o little_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v do_v for_o that_o day_n shall_v not_o only_o come_v but_o it_o shall_v be_v full_a of_o perplexity_n and_o misery_n without_o any_o light_n atheist_n and_o presumptuous_a sinner_n come_v to_o that_o height_n as_o not_o only_o to_o harbour_v such_o thought_n in_o their_o own_o bosom_n but_o to_o pluck_v off_o any_o veil_n of_o hypocrisy_n they_o have_v and_o set_v down_o in_o the_o seat_n of_o the_o scornful_a and_o open_o deride_v the_o word_n for_o so_o do_v they_o here_o they_o desire_v the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n or_o the_o day_n of_o vengeance_n wherein_o he_o will_v prove_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o lord_n that_o be_v with_o insolent_a and_o profane_a scorn_n they_o desire_v to_o see_v that_o day_n and_o that_o the_o prophet_n will_v make_v their_o word_n good_a which_o they_o expect_v will_v never_o be_v albeit_o many_o who_o harbour_v such_o thought_n will_v be_v unwilling_a it_o shall_v be_v know_v yet_o god_n be_v provoke_v to_o pluck_v off_o the_o mask_n and_o bring_v they_o out_o and_o where_o the_o word_n effectual_o preach_v do_v not_o prevail_v corruption_n will_v be_v irritate_fw-la thereby_o to_o vent_v itself_o more_o open_o 3._o such_o atheistical_a and_o presumptuous_a disposition_n in_o man_n be_v a_o heavy_a plague_n of_o themselves_o and_o do_v portend_v more_o plague_n and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o plague_n and_o woe_n in_o all_o the_o calamity_n that_o come_v upon_o they_o in_o these_o respect_v it_o be_v say_v woe_n unto_o you_o that_o desire_v the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n 4._o epicure_n and_o presumptuous_a atheist_n and_o hypocrite_n do_v little_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v do_v or_o what_o be_v their_o danger_n when_o they_o scorn_v threaten_n and_o desire_n to_o see_v they_o accomplish_v and_o if_o their_o conscience_n be_v put_v serious_o to_o it_o they_o will_v tell_v they_o it_o be_v so_o therefore_o do_v he_o pose_v they_o to_o what_o end_n be_v it_o for_o you_o or_o what_o can_v you_o expect_v in_o such_o a_o day_n or_o what_o do_v you_o gain_v by_o such_o a_o scornful_a temper_n that_o you_o shall_v be_v so_o bend_v on_o it_o their_o conscience_n if_o awake_a can_v tell_v they_o that_o such_o a_o day_n be_v rather_o to_o be_v prevent_v then_o desire_v and_o that_o they_o can_v reap_v nothing_o by_o such_o atheistical_a scorn_n for_o neither_o do_v it_o produce_v any_o present_a true_a good_a in_o they_o nor_o will_v it_o hold_v away_o that_o day_n but_o rather_o hasten_v it_o and_o make_v it_o more_o bitter_a and_o grievous_a and_o therefore_o they_o ought_v to_o consider_v better_a and_o avoid_v it_o 5._o as_o even_o the_o cleanly_a trial_n of_o god_n people_n may_v produce_v much_o humble_v exercise_n god_n appear_v in_o anger_n against_o a_o atheistical_a and_o incorrigible_a people_n they_o may_v expect_v to_o be_v involve_v in_o a_o heap_n of_o misery_n on_o all_o hand_n and_o that_o not_o one_o unto_o the_o lord_n as_o a_o matter_n whereof_o they_o shall_v be_v sure_a and_o grow_v in_o it_o that_o they_o may_v go_v on_o in_o repentance_n 13._o repentance_n and_o conversion_n will_v neither_o and_o zeph._n 2.3_o doct._n 1._o when_o sinner_n be_v most_o exercise_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o repentance_n yet_o the_o true_a penitent_n hope_n be_v only_o fix_v on_o god_n and_o his_o turn_n and_o change_n of_o deal_v and_o not_o on_o his_o own_o turn_n and_o repentance_n for_o so_o be_v penitent_n direct_v to_o look_v to_o god_n turn_v and_o repent_v 2._o albeit_o god_n will_v be_v certain_o reconcile_v with_o sinner_n upon_o their_o repentance_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o albeit_o god_n will_v mitigate_v his_o plague_n unto_o penitent_n at_o least_o so_o far_o as_o that_o judgement_n be_v turn_v into_o fatherly_a chastisement_n to_o they_o yet_o repentance_n will_v not_o always_o hold_v off_o or_o take_v off_o a_o temporal_a stroke_n when_o either_o sin_n have_v come_v to_o a_o great_a height_n call_v on_o god_n to_o vindicate_v his_o glory_n in_o punish_v it_o or_o when_o he_o will_v have_v the_o penitent_a yet_o more_o quicken_v up_o in_o his_o repentance_n which_o ready_o he_o will_v fall_v slack_a in_o if_o the_o rod_n be_v away_o and_o albeit_o the_o lord_n may_v intend_v to_o prevent_v or_o remove_v calamity_n yet_o he_o will_v make_v the_o penitent_a more_o solicitous_a diligent_a and_o humble_a by_o keep_v he_o in_o suspense_n about_o it_o for_o these_o cause_v it_o be_v that_o there_o be_v so_o incertain_a like_o a_o promise_n concern_v their_o preservation_n under_o and_o issue_n from_o this_o rod_n who_o know_v if_o he_o will_v return_v &_o c_o 3._o no_o incertainty_n about_o these_o thing_n shall_v discourage_v a_o repent_v upon_o this_o same_o who_o know_v if_o he_o will_v return_v &_o c_o 4._o outward_a benefit_n and_o mean_n of_o plenty_n be_v in_o themselves_o a_o blessing_n however_o we_o abuse_v they_o they_o flow_v in_o their_o growth_n and_o preservation_n from_o a_o rich_a blessing_n of_o influence_n they_o do_v we_o good_a because_o god_n put_v a_o blessing_n in_o they_o for_o that_o end_n and_o they_o be_v give_v to_o mankind_n especial_o in_o any_o measure_n of_o plenty_n they_o be_v a_o common_a favour_n to_o all_o though_o the_o wicked_a make_v they_o a_o snare_n and_o plague_n to_o themselves_o and_o a_o special_a blessing_n to_o the_o godly_a 5._o god_n correct_v will_v not_o hinder_v his_o blessing_n to_o penitent_n and_o there_o may_v be_v rich_a mercy_n wait_v for_o they_o sickness_n such_o persecution_n desertion_n tentation_n heresy_n schism_n etc._n etc._n as_o if_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v go_v through_o other_o the_o course_n of_o nature_n overturn_v and_o the_o world_n full_a of_o dreadful_a fight_n of_o blood_n fire_n and_o darkness_n and_o neither_o sun_n or_o moon_n afford_v wont_a light_n or_o comfort_n to_o dip_v further_o into_o what_o may_v be_v connceive_v to_o be_v figurative_o point_v at_o under_o every_o one_o of_o these_o i_o conceive_v be_v not_o very_o safe_a doct._n 1._o whatever_o breathe_v time_n god_n may_v allow_v upon_o his_o gospel-church_n yet_o it_o be_v her_o duty_n to_o look_v for_o commotion_n and_o trouble_n especial_o after_o time_n of_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o time_n of_o much_o light_n and_o reformation_n for_o upon_o the_o one_o hand_n satan_n will_v bend_v all_o his_o power_n to_o oppose_v the_o progress_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o will_v set_v the_o world_n in_o opposition_n to_o the_o church_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n god_n will_v pour_v out_o all_o sort_n of_o calamity_n upon_o the_o visible_a church_n to_o punish_v they_o who_o contemn_v his_o rich_a offer_n and_o do_v not_o walk_v answerable_o to_o such_o dispensation_n and_o to_o try_v the_o grace_n of_o his_o own_o that_o they_o may_v aspire_v towards_o spiritual_a happiness_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o will_v for_o a_o time_n 2._o king_n 14_o 23_o 24_o 25_o etc._n etc._n 2._o chron_n 26._o 3_o 6_o 7._o 6._o when_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o regard_v it_o be_v just_a with_o he_o to_o preach_v to_o a_o people_n by_o his_o judgement_n and_o by_o unnatural_a and_o extraordinary_a sign_n and_o wonder_n to_o let_v they_o know_v his_o anger_n so_o much_o may_v be_v gather_v from_o this_o earthquake_n which_o be_v a_o terrible_a stroke_n and_o warning_n to_o that_o people_n who_o believe_v not_o and_o therefore_o be_v take_v special_a notice_n of_o here_o and_o long_o after_o zech._n lord_n may_v add_v this_o to_o all_o the_o former_a judgement_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v plague_v with_o the_o want_n of_o any_o future_a blessing_n of_o rod_n and_o that_o affliction_n shall_v
