precise_a man_n be_v wed_v to_o their_o own_o invention_n so_o be_v these_o here_o know_v you_o therefore_o man_n wed_v to_o their_o own_o invention_n though_o never_o so_o learned_a or_o never_o so_o have_v invisible_a strength_n he_o answer_v she_o not_o a_o word_n to_o her_o prayer_n but_o he_o assi_v she_o all_o that_o while_n in_o pray_v he_o give_v she_o no_o answer_n to_o her_o prayer_n but_o he_o give_v her_o prayer_n he_o give_v her_o faith_n to_o continue_v in_o prayer_n so_o long_o therefore_o as_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v send_v down_o his_o spirit_n upon_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n though_o you_o have_v no_o visible_a answer_n unto_o your_o prayer_n yet_o if_o he_o uphold_v your_o heart_n in_o believe_v still_o to_o hang_v upon_o he_o still_o to_o wait_v temptation_n be_v great_a for_o now_o in_o this_o his_o deal_n his_o way_n seem_v to_o run_v cross_a unto_o promise_n the_o promise_n be_v make_v unto_o the_o gentile_n the_o old_a testament_n be_v seem_v to_o run_v cross_a to_o his_o very_a promise_n and_o yet_o a_o man_n condition_n right_a so_o here_o with_o this_o woman_n three_o that_o it_o may_v be_v the_o case_n of_o some_o of_o god_n child_n to_o be_v exercise_v about_o their_o election_n and_o predestination_n and_o temptation_n concern_v election_n and_o predestination_n throw_v in_o upon_o they_o four_o that_o in_o case_n any_o poor_a believer_n that_o be_v a_o weak_a person_n weak_a in_o the_o faith_n be_v tempt_v and_o try_v about_o election_n or_o predestination_n the_o best_a way_n for_o the_o present_a be_v to_o lay_v that_o dispute_n by_o and_o to_o run_v to_o mercy_n
and_o say_v lord_n help_v i_o and_o for_o the_o present_a not_o to_o dispute_v whether_o he_o be_v a_o sheep_n or_o no_o elect_v or_o no_o predestinate_v or_o no_o but_o run_v to_o christ_n and_o go_v to_o prayer_n and_o say_v lord_n help_v i_o and_o lay_v the_o dispute_n by_o again_o as_o our_o temptation_n increase_v so_o our_o faith_n shall_v increase_v the_o woman_n temptation_n rise_v so_o do_v her_o faith_n too_o she_o come_v and_o worship_v he_o say_v lord_n help_v i_o still_o she_o hold_v on_o and_o hang_v upon_o jesus_n christ_n according_a to_o the_o increase_v of_o our_o temptation_n so_o shall_v the_o increase_v of_o our_o faith_n be_v if_o all_o this_o will_v not_o do_v behold_v now_o a_o three_o and_o a_o great_a temptation_n he_o answer_v and_o say_v it_o be_v not_o meet_v to_o take_v the_o child_n bread_n and_o to_o cast_v it_o to_o dog_n it_o be_v not_o meet_v to_o cast_v child_n bread_n to_o dog_n the_o word_n in_o the_o original_n be_v a_o whelp_n a_o eat_v of_o the_o crumb_n which_o fall_v from_o their_o master_n table_n true_o the_o word_n be_v the_o same_o that_o in_o the_o corinthian_n you_o translate_v 15.33_o 1_o cor._n 15.33_o protest_v i_o will_v be_v angry_a but_o a_o true_a believer_n you_o can_v speak_v or_o think_v so_o mean_o of_o he_o but_o he_o will_v say_v true_a lord_n true_a lord_n observe_v here_o she_o call_v christ_n lord_n when_o christ_n call_v she_o dog_n lord_n say_v she_o though_o thou_o speak_v dishonourable_o of_o i_o yet_o i_o will_v speak_v honourable_o of_o thou_o though_o i_o be_o a_o dog_n in_o thy_o mouth_n grace_n answ_n faith_n do_v commend_v christ_n above_o all_o the_o other_o and_o therefore_o christ_n will_v commend_v faith_n above_o all_o other_o duty_n or_o grace_n i'faith_o honour_n christ_n and_o christ_n will_v honour_v faith_n it_o be_v faith_n that_o give_v a_o be_v to_o and_o be_v the_o root_n of_o all_o other_o grace_n he_o commend_v that_o it_o be_v only_a faith_n that_o bring_v christ_n and_o the_o soul_n together_o and_o therefore_o he_o do_v commend_v faith_n above_o all_o other_o grace_n if_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v commend_v faith_n so_o why_o shall_v we_o not_o all_o labour_n especial_o to_o strengthen_v our_o faith_n get_v faith_n you_o that_o have_v it_o not_o &_o strengthen_v it_o you_o that_o have_v it_o get_v humility_n patience_n wisdom_n be_v much_o in_o prayer_n and_o continue_v in_o prayer_n but_o above_o all_o thing_n get_v faith_n faith_n be_v the_o grace_n commend_v by_o jesus_n christ_n above_o all_o other_o grace_n therefore_o we_o shall_v labour_v above_o all_o for_o to_o get_v faith_n and_o to_o strengthen_v faith_n it_o be_v observe_v from_o this_o place_n that_o christ_n commend_v none_o but_o the_o gentile_n the_o faith_n be_v the_o greatness_n of_o her_o faith_n faith_n consist_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n assent_n unto_o the_o truth_n a_o rely_v upon_o god_n in_o christ_n in_o time_n of_o temptation_n it_o be_v a_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n a_o adherence_n to_o he_o but_o the_o greatness_n of_o her_o faith_n lie_v in_o this_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o these_o temptation_n yet_o she_o do_v hang_v on_o christ_n and_o will_v not_o be_v beat_v off_o by_o any_o of_o these_o discouragement_n or_o temptation_n here_o be_v the_o greatness_n of_o her_o faith_n observe_v the_o strength_n of_o faith_n do_v not_o lie_v in_o the_o assurance_n of_o our_o salvation_n or_o of_o god_n love_n or_o of_o the_o mercy_n that_o we_o desire_v in_o prayer_n one_o may_v have_v strong_a faith_n and_o yet_o no_o assurance_n i_o say_v not_o only_a faith_n but_o strong_a faith_n this_o woman_n have_v no_o assurance_n that_o we_o read_v of_o not_o assurance_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o she_o beg_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v her_o prayer_n she_o have_v no_o assurance_n of_o it_o only_o she_o hang_v upon_o christ_n and_o will_v not_o away_o and_o when_o he_o put_v she_o away_o she_o gather_v in_o upon_o he_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o temptation_n and_o opposition_n still_o she_o do_v hang_v upon_o he_o so_o then_o a_o man_n may_v have_v faith_n and_o strong_a faith_n although_o he_o have_v no_o assurance_n and_o upon_o this_o account_n how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o have_v strong_a faith_n that_o think_v they_o have_v no_o faith_n at_o all_o some_o think_v they_o have_v no_o faith_n because_o they_o can_v say_v christ_n be_v i_o mercy_n be_v i_o heaven_n be_v i_o but_o yet_o if_o in_o the_o time_n of_o your_o temptation_n you_o can_v hand_n upon_o christ_n and_o will_v not_o woman_n have_v and_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o this_o for_o your_o comfort_n at_o the_o last_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v a_o report_n of_o your_o faith_n unto_o your_o own_o heart_n yea_o he_o will_v different_a from_o the_o beast_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v a_o meat_n that_o do_v suit_n to_o his_o life_n now_o this_o spiritual_a life_n it_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o life_n than_o the_o natural_a life_n of_o man_n be_v and_o therefore_o it_o must_v have_v a_o meat_n that_o do_v suit_n with_o it_o meat_n that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o say_v our_o saviour_n 4.32_o john_n 4.32_o a_o dead_a coal_n take_v a_o dead_a coal_n and_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o great_a or_o small_a it_o sully_n and_o black_n more_o or_o less_o but_o it_o warm_v not_o but_o take_v your_o live_a coal_n which_o have_v fire_n in_o it_o and_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o great_a or_o small_a it_o do_v warm_a in_o proportion_n more_o or_o less_o it_o warm_v and_o if_o we_o be_v as_o live_a coal_n why_o then_o be_v our_o conference_n and_o communion_n together_o no_o more_o warm_n when_o you_o go_v into_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a company_n there_o you_o meet_v with_o dead_a coal_n and_o there_o you_o be_v sully_v and_o dirty_v and_o black_v by_o they_o i_o say_v if_o you_o indeed_o be_v live_v coal_n why_o be_v your_o conference_n no_o more_o warm_a and_o live_a oh_o what_o sad_a time_n be_v we_o now_o fall_v into_o heretofore_o some_o four_o or_o six_o or_o ten_o year_n ago_o you_o shall_v not_o come_v into_o a_o christian_n company_n but_o you_o shall_v have_v some_o heart-warming_a conference_n that_o you_o shall_v bless_v god_n for_o many_o year_n after_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o junius_n he_o come_v into_o a_o poor_a countryman_n house_n and_o he_o speak_v so_o feel_o of_o christ_n that_o he_o think_v it_o be_v not_o knowledge_n only_o that_o will_v serve_v a_o man_n turn_n and_o thereupon_o he_o think_v of_o his_o own_o condition_n and_o be_v turn_v to_o god_n and_o we_o read_v of_o the_o martyr_n in_o the_o primitive_a time_n when_o they_o meet_v together_o they_o will_v speak_v much_o of_o the_o kingdom_n the_o kingdom_n the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n in_o so_o much_o as_o their_o accuser_n their_o enemy_n and_o persecutor_n charge_v they_o that_o they_o aim_v at_o the_o empire_n and_o the_o kingdom_n whereas_o they_o be_v speak_v of_o a_o christian_n do_v meet_v together_o than_o they_o will_v speak_v of_o the_o kingdom_n and_o something_o that_o will_v warm_v their_o heart_n together_o that_o they_o may_v be_v the_o better_a all_o the_o year_n after_o but_o now_o when_o we_o be_v meet_v together_o either_o our_o speech_n be_v about_o news_n or_o some_o dispute_n in_o point_n of_o religion_n or_o some_o other_o thing_n yea_o though_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o lordsday_n but_o if_o you_o be_v live_a coal_n where_o be_v your_o live_a conference_n and_o your_o heart-warming-communion_n certain_o if_o you_o be_v alive_a in_o christ_n indeed_o and_o make_v partaker_n of_o this_o spiritual_a life_n you_o will_v live_v at_o a_o high_a rate_n than_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n do_v quest_n be_v there_o nothing_o in_o all_o this_o doctrine_n concern_v those_o that_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o make_v alive_a have_v this_o doctrine_n nothing_o to_o say_v to_o they_o answ_n yes_o it_o have_v very_o much_o to_o say_v to_o they_o only_o i_o be_o loath_a to_o be_v the_o messenger_n of_o death_n to_o any_o one_o of_o your_o soul_n but_o if_o this_o doctrine_n be_v true_a that_o every_o godly_a man_n be_v a_o live_a man_n and_o in_o the_o state_n of_o life_n and_o none_o else_o how_o many_o poor_a dead_a soul_n may_v this_o doctrine_n find_v in_o congregation_n it_o be_v say_v that_o when_o the_o egyptian_n find_v their_o first-born_a dead_a in_o their_o family_n there_o be_v a_o great_a cry_n through_o egypt_n a_o great_a cry_n in_o every_o family_n and_o be_v man_n as_o sensible_a of_o their_o soul_n as_o they_o be_v of_o their_o body_n oh_o what_o a_o great_a cry_n may_v there_o be_v in_o divers_a of_o your_o family_n one_o cry_v out_o and_o say_n oh_o lord_n i_o have_v a_o dead_a child_n who_o soul_n be_v dead_a another_o oh_o lord_n i_o have_v a_o dead_a servant_n in_o my_o family_n another_o oh_o lord_n i_o have_v a_o dead_a wife_n in_o my_o family_n who_o soul_n be_v dead_a another_o i_o have_v a_o dead_a husband_n a_o dead_a friend_n i_o say_v be_v man_n and_o woman_n as_o sensible_a of_o their_o soul_n as_o they_o be_v of_o their_o body_n what_o cry_v what_o a_o great_a cry_n this_o morning_n may_v there_o be_v find_v in_o this_o congregation_n but_o i_o choose_v rather_o to_o exhort_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o to_o get_v this_o same_o spiritual_a life_n that_o now_o i_o have_v be_v speak_v of_o above_o all_o get_n to_o get_v this_o spiritual_a life_n you_o see_v into_o what_o sad_a time_n you_o be_v fall_v who_o know_v how_o long_o he_o shall_v put_v in_o and_o when_o you_o have_v find_v the_o defect_n in_o your_o duty_n throw_v dust_n upon_o it_o and_o humble_v yourselves_o before_o the_o lord_n second_o if_o you_o will_v deny_v yourselves_o in_o spiritual_a thing_n observe_v much_o the_o income_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n upon_o your_o soul_n the_o way_n and_o manner_n of_o it_o how_o sudden_o how_o unexpected_o how_o free_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o spirit_n breathe_v upon_o your_o soul_n when_o your_o heart_n be_v dead_a when_o your_o heart_n be_v hard_a when_o you_o say_v god_n be_v now_o go_v and_o will_v never_o return_v again_o oh_o what_o freedom_n once_o i_o have_v in_o prayer_n but_o now_o my_o heart_n be_v hard_a and_o i_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o pray_v again_o then_o come_v the_o you_o will_v learn_v humility_n where_o shall_v you_o see_v a_o humble_a christ_n but_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o more_o you_o see_v a_o self-denying_a christ_n the_o more_o you_o will_v learn_v self-denial_n and_o where_o shall_v you_o read_v of_o a_o self-denying_a christ_n but_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o more_o you_o see_v the_o free_a and_o rich_a grace_n of_o god_n the_o more_o you_o will_v deny_v yourselves_o in_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o where_o shall_v you_o see_v the_o freegrace_n of_o god_n but_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o more_o faith_n you_o have_v the_o more_o you_o will_v deny_v yourselves_o in_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o where_o shall_v you_o get_v faith_n but_o in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o in_o study_v of_o the_o gospel_n this_o grace_n of_o humility_n and_o self-denial_n in_o spiritual_a thing_n grow_v only_o in_o the_o garden_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o bed_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o be_v a_o field-humility_n and_o there_o be_v so_o i_o say_v here_o though_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o belever_n be_v more_o material_a though_o not_o in_o itself_o it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o other_o union_n a_o accidental_a union_n christ_n unite_v unto_o the_o soul_n by_o faith_n by_o the_o intervening_a of_o grace_n and_o accident_n but_o now_o the_o second_o person_n be_v unite_v unto_o our_o nature_n and_o unto_o our_o flesh_n not_o by_o the_o intervening_a of_o any_o grace_n or_o any_o accident_n but_o their_o substance_n be_v unite_v unto_o substance_n by_o the_o second_o person_n i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o a_o union_n by_o the_o intervening_a of_o any_o grace_n for_o though_o all_o grace_n be_v in_o christ_n yet_o the_o union_n of_o of_o john_n that_o christ_n pray_v that_o we_o may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o as_o he_o be_v with_o the_o father_n that_o they_o all_o may_v be_v one_o as_o thou_o father_n be_v in_o i_o and_o i_o in_o thou_o that_o they_o also_o may_v be_v one_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v a_o as_o of_o similitude_n and_o not_o of_o equality_n christ_n pray_v unto_o the_o father_n that_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o not_o by_o way_n of_o equallitie_n that_o a_o believer_n shall_v be_v equal_o one_o with_o christ_n as_o christ_n be_v with_o the_o father_n for_o then_o christ_n shall_v pray_v that_o a_o say_v that_o a_o believer_n be_v not_o one_o with_o christ_n in_o this_o height_n of_o one-ness_a how_o may_v it_o appear_v by_o way_n of_o scripture_n reason_n that_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n and_o that_o he_o be_v real_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o the_o spirit_n not_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o infuse_a habit_n habit_n of_o grace_n grace_v inherent_a but_o that_o christ_n himself_o be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n answ_n 1_o you_o know_v that_o we_o be_v unite_v to_o christ_n by_o faith_n and_o look_v what_o faith_n habit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n than_o there_o will_v be_v but_o two_o that_o bear_v witness_n namely_o water_n and_o blood_n because_o the_o other_o will_v be_v all_o one_o with_o water_n water_n be_v mean_v only_a sanctification_n but_o now_o there_o be_v three_o that_o do_v bear_v witness_n unto_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n the_o spirit_n and_o blood_n and_o water_n and_o therefore_o christ_n be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n christ_n real_o unite_v unto_o all_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n quest_n what_o be_v the_o benefit_n of_o all_o this_o for_o suppose_v that_o we_o grant_v this_o that_o christ_n in_o a_o believer_n be_v not_o only_a grace_n and_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o christ_n himself_o be_v real_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n what_o profit_n benefit_n or_o comfort_n will_v come_v unto_o a_o believer_n more_o this_o way_n than_o the_o other_o way_n answ_n 1_o much_o every_o way_n first_o if_o jesus_n christ_n be_v real_o unite_v to_o each_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o real_o in_o he_o in_o this_o spiritual_a and_o mystical_a way_n then_o a_o believer_n shall_v have_v more_o bless_v and_o glorious_a communion_n with_o christ_n than_o the_o other_o way_n for_o union_n be_v the_o root_n of_o communion_n the_o husband_n &_o the_o wife_n be_v first_o join_v together_o and_o unite_v and_o then_o they_o have_v communion_n with_o one_o another_o and_o fellowship_n in_o their_o good_n and_o estate_n union_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o communion_n and_o the_o near_a the_o union_n the_o great_a the_o communion_n now_o if_o christ_n shall_v be_v only_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n the_o union_n will_v not_o be_v so_o great_a but_o if_o this_o be_v true_a that_o christ_n be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n christ_n real_o unite_v to_o each_o believer_n here_o the_o union_n be_v near_a and_o therefore_o the_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n that_o a_o believer_n shall_v have_v with_o christ_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o and_o more_o bless_a second_o if_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o a_o believer_n unto_o all_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n then_o his_o love_n must_v needs_o be_v infinite_a towards_o believer_n if_o that_o his_o grace_n only_o be_v in_o they_o he_o will_v love_v they_o because_o thereby_o they_o shall_v be_v make_v like_o unto_o he_o but_o now_o if_o his_o own_o spirit_n be_v in_o a_o believer_n than_o his_o love_n must_v needs_o be_v infinite_a unto_o a_o believer_n and_o a_o
